Nintendo World 2006 announced
Nintendo event focused on Wii and DS slated to hit Japan throughout November in three key locations.
By Walt Wyman, GameSpot
Posted Oct 11, 2006 10:44 am PT
Although Nintendo skipped the Tokyo Game Show, Japan-based Nintendo fans will have an opportunity to see what the big N has been working on at a series of shows planned for November. The event, which was announced on Nintendo's Web site today, will be called Nintendo World 2006. This name recalls both the Nintendo World Touch DS! event held across Japan prior to the DS launch in 2004, and Nintendo's old Space World shows, which haven't been held since 2001.
The event will take place November 3 and 12 in Nagoya and Osaka, respectively. The event will also visit the Makuhari Messe, the very site of last month's Tokyo Game Show and a previous Space World site, for two days on November 25 and 26. There is no admission charge. Visitors will be treated to hands-on Wii demonstrations and sneak peeks of the newest DS titles.
Devised in the wake of E3's "changes" perhaps?

Fu*k Nintendo World, really....and Space World, and whatever the hell the name of the show that came before it was. Proprietary PR sh*t in Japan. Fu*k all of it.
Also, I feel sorry for the European gamers here. You all got ****ed by NOE again (as usual). Mario Basketball and Star Fox Command have been delayed until next year for no reason. My condolences are with you. :(

Well, Gamestop confirmed preorders for tomorrow morning, just like AMN confirmed OVER A WEEK AGO (you asshats :P), so yeah. I'll just show up at the crack of dawn. Our's is fortunately in a mall, and if I stayed the night, it would just be a nerd riot once the mall opened. Staying all night wouldn't matter in the long run because it would just be a run for the store once the mall opened.
And let me state for the record, I am not opening this thing until Christmas morning. That is my decision, and mine alone. I get called a *** for it, but I don't care. This will probobly be the last time I get to enjoy a Nintendo launch like this for one (or possibly more) reasons, and my life will probobly become very unstable next year as a whole, so I want to enjoy this the same way I enjoyed my very first console when I opened my Super NES and put that "N64 Kid" on YouTube to shame. I'd just like Christmas to have a happy gaming memory attached to it one more time. That's just me. Call me an idiot if you want.
Besides, it'll give me time to enjoy the kickass 360 lineup before the thing goes ignored for two seasons.

LOLZ. I would sure hope not. What does Wii have beyond Zelda at launch? We may get Wario Ware very early next year, but beyond that....what? Sadly, it looks like every other Nintendo console launch, except that you'll actually be able to find one.
As a side note, I find Doom talking about being "civilized" almost as much of a joke as Sony launching 4 million PS3's in Q4 of 06'.
Wii is going to be a rather bleak launch, like every other launch. You'll be playing 360 the day after Christmas. I guarantee it.

The whole Canadian thing is pretty over done. You must take humor lessons from KROW or something. Hang it up, pal. Not only do you fail at picking up a 14 year old, you also fail at coming up with your own material.

It seems you missed the entire second paragraph. You see, first I invalidated your pathetic excuse for an insult, and then I made my real retort.
It's ok if you have nothing to say though. I'm sure your mind is busy thinking of all the good little boys and girls you'll "meet" along the road on their way home from school. That, and you're probably more than a little worried about work tonight. Afterall, who knows how many of your 60 year old customers will want your services once they see the terrible break-out on your lips. As long as you can dig up those couple bucks for the new Taking Back Sunday album and a re-newed Pedos-R-Us' membership, right?

I'm thinking I'm not going to preorder at Gamestop.
Instead, I'm going to wait in Walmart over night, with my DS, and nerd it up. I was there the night DS launched, and really... it wasn't busy at all. Of course, by the middle of that day they were sold out... but right at midnight I should be able to get a Wii pretty easily.
Still up in the air now if I'm going to get all of the extra stuff, or even any games beside Zelda.
ThirdMarioBro
10-12-2006, 04:10 PM
I honestly don't think there is anything to worry about at this launch. I'm just preordering out of paranoia, even though I'm not going to touch it for a month. That 360 launch last year scarred me for life. Total hell, a place EB games can go to as well. They screwed me royally on the whole affair. I actually got my sister's DS (Christmas present) two days before Christmas at Wal-Mart at 12:01AM on the last shipment. There were 24 and nobody at the register, so I casually bought it, and took it out to the car, then came back in to finish shopping. I wandered back over to the electronics section looking for a CD fifteen minutes later, and the whole damned shipment was gone. So yeah, don't underestimate midnight demand, and get your Wii before black friday. After that, it's every customer for themselves.
Yanno I really love how you throw around the words "***" and "******" like derogatory terms and them come in here all like "OMFG LITTLE MERMAID ^___^ <3 <3 <3"

Thanks for belittling another mod on the forum and not taking it to PM. I appreciate it.
There are three mods who rarely leave this section of the forums. If there was ever any real problem, we'd be here to take care of it. We're different in here than in other sections. We're not uptight about it. We joke, and we allow everyone else to make those jokes, because we all know it's in good fun. We're probably the most tight-knit section of the boards.
In short, you don't need to come in here and try and excercise your power. We have it well in hand. Have you ever noticed that nothing in here has ever spilled over into an huge flame brawl, or been brought up on numerous occassions in discussion with the mods, unless someone who doesn't visit and participate in this section on a regular basis does so?

No, moderators should not undo the actions of other mods without discussing it first. And when did she say that she was going to lock the thread permanently? Sometimes a temporary lock is a good way to allow arguments to calm down, and no thread is immune to one of those.
There are three mods who rarely leave this section of the forums. If there was ever any real problem, we'd be here to take care of it.

Where exactly are the mods unnecessarily "jumping on people"? Mind pointing out some recent examples from each section to back up your claim? The mods can't improve if people take vague shots at them instead of offering constructive criticism.
Everyone's so uptight about having mods tossed at them that it's not fun trying to post there anymore.
I have no idea where you're getting that from. In my experience, people don't seem to care at all about what the mods or admins say or do in most cases, much less act "uptight" about them.

Well, this was the day from hell. I'm typing from Starbucks right now. I wake up, and the power is out. I cannot check on the information about preorders and make sure everything is still A-OK without electricity, so I leave at 8:00AM and head for Gamestop to stand in line for two hours. I get there ten minutes later, and there are already 18 nerds in Nintendo shirts and emo drag grinning like I got to the orgy after all the condoms are gone.
I get in line anyway, and lucky for me, there are still three units availabe. The manager was counting people in line, and began turning away all the people twi guys behing me. I breath a sign of relief, and go on about my buisness playing Mario Kart against the emo guy and basically make him my b*tch, then some kid comes along and murders me. I spend the next 15 minutes punishing him.
The open the store, line moves fast with three lanes open, and they go through all 33 units in ten minutes. They misconted their supply (can these guys even count), and apprently, I wind up being the last one on the first shipment. I breath a sign of relief, and walk away with my preorder.
I got the console, a spare Wii remote, the Classic controller, Zelda, Red Steel, Excite Truck, and Wario Ware. Pretty good haul. Also, Gamestop is only getting as many accessories as they have preroderd as spare controllers will indeed be quite rare as predicted. If you aren't preordering the machine, then preorder the accessories. You'll need them, because they're going to be this Holiday's bottleneck.

Where exactly are the mods unnecessarily "jumping on people"? Mind pointing out some recent examples from each section to back up your claim? The mods can't improve if people take vague shots at them instead of offering constructive criticism.
I think he was actually using that as a compliment, Krang, which is the sad part.

Why would you bring this arguement back up? You weren't even involved in it.
As for the Wii thing, I think it was said that the worst case scenerio would be 50 consoles for each EB/Gamestop, so no one has anything to worry about. If you want a Wii, you'll get a Wii. Accessories also won't be an issue.

At the preorder shamble I went to, there was an old lady who budged to be first in line, and shoo-ed away some huge bald guy. I figured she was jaded from years and years of never getting Tickle Me Elmo.
Later on I witnessed a 45 year old guy yelling at other older guys about how he's "Not a politician, I'm a military man. He stole 100 million dollars from me, I WANT HIM DEAD! I WANT HIM DEAD!"
to whom he was referring to, no one knows, but I reckon he was a little mentally handicapped.

Truth. That's why when we played we just straight up raced. Since we didn't care who won. It was just for fun.
I still won't forget that first race. All three of us side-by-side, racing around that track with the falling snowballs. Make the turn...SNOWMAN, and Lain went slamming into it and flying out of the way, accompanied by that insane Yoshi scream. TMB and I couldn't stop laughing.

To be honest, I don't quite know myself. My view of the Wii has just constantly rolled downhill for a couple of months now. Back at E3 I was viewing the Wii with unbridled enthusiasm, as if I had reverted to the days before the Xbox, when I would mock and ridicule the bastard step-child of Microsoft, who we had yet to see, and praise the ways of the Dolphin.
As time has ticked on, and more and more people have had genuine hands-on, un-rushed time with the Wii, so have the previews and impressions of the console on the whole continued to leak out every so often. The more I read them, the less enthusiastic I get about it. It just seems like the general consensus on the machine is unimpressed. Sure, it's a new way to play, but is it necessary, is it actually any more fun than playing in the way we always have? It seems to me like the honest answer to that question is no. The Wii doesn't make it more fun to play games. It just offers a different way of doing so, but with a significant drop in power compared to the other two consoles. Is the trade of really worth it?
So the more I've read and looked, the more sceptical I've become. The Wii almost seems like a mini-game machine. Something to pull out at a party or a gathering of your friends and then hastly stuff away again an hour later when your game of Wii Sports degenerates into everyone yawning and passing up on their turn.
Then I look and think, do I really need a Wii at launch? As a hardcore game player, maybe. It does have Zelda, but is it Zelda, or is it some bastardized version with a shoe horned control scheme?
Bottom line, I've lost intrest in the Wii. At launch and for the rest of this year. It's not offering me anything I really and truly want to play. As someone who prides themself on playing as much as I can, this is one point in time where I sit and think if that money is really worth it. At least at this point in time.

I think many people were afraid of similar things when the DS launched (and the DS launch was way worse than this one) but they were proved wrong. I can totally understand your scepticism though. The fact that the next Zelda (I mean the one after TP) will never look anything close to "Gears of War" is something that will always bug me.
Peanut
10-16-2006, 11:24 AM
And that's another problem. The whole DS comparison. We're not talking about a handheld anymore; we're talking about a console. I have a big difference in expectations between what I play when I just have a couple quick minutes on my DS, and what I play when I sit down on my couch to play on a console. Is Nintendo going to be able to get away with these DS kind of experiences on a home console? No way in hell. At least they won't with me anyways.
Nintendo does get a free pass, because they proved so many people wrong with the DS, but you can't compare a console to a handheld. There's no way.

I kind of agree, the Wii has become more of an 'and' console for me. I love Nintendo games and I don't expect it to dissappoint at all in that regard, but I'm not convinced the thing can hold its own when it comes to other stuff. Unlike last gen, I am definitely getting one of the other two consoles as well (Eventually).
I don't think the console is 'for us' anyway, or at least not primarily. It sucks, but yeah. Oh well.

I agree completely. Especially that it's not "for us". I said that a couple times as well.
My view of the Wii has just constantly rolled downhill for a couple of months now. That's exactly how I feel. I was so pumped about the Wii just a few months ago but that excitement has definitely disappeared.
Is the trade of really worth it?That's is the exact impression I'm forming towards the Wii. I've been asking myself, is different better? And the conclusion I've reached is sometimes it's better and sometimes it's worse. I'm really not sure how I feel about the new game play of the Wii anymore. I've never disliked the "traditional" way, so is change really necessary? Especially when nintendo is choicing to sacrifice so much graphics wise. I'm not a graphics whore. I've never been one and never plan to become one, but the fact does remain that all things equal (i'm talking about gameplay) better graphics equals a better game. That is just basic logic. But really the point I'm trying to make is that I grew up and feel in love with the "traditional" style of gameplay, so the question is why do I really need to change? And the answer is I don't think I do.Then I look and think, do I really need a Wii at launch? As a hardcore game player, maybe. It does have Zelda, but is it Zelda, or is it some bastardized version with a shoe horned control scheme? Again you hit the nail on the head. Why didn't they just give us TP for the GameCube like they were supposed to? The answer is simply, Nintendo choose to add the Wii control scheme to have a big title at launch. The game wasn't designed with the Wii control in mind and that really pisses me off. They are trying to trick people into believing that Nintendo has a great launch because we get Zelda but we aren't getting a Wii Zelda, we are only getting a moded GameCube Version. And anyone who doesn't believe that is really naive because the fact remains they are still releasing the GameCube version on the system it was made to be played on.
I don't think the console is 'for us' anyway, or at least not primarily. It sucks, but yeah. Oh well.In my opinion, it isn't even a matter of thinking the console is not 'for us' anymore, I know it isn't.

I definately think we need to let the system come out and allow it to become populated with more games before we make any sort of ultimate judgement on it. I share everyone's thoughts of skepticism, but you have to remember that launch titles tend to only have 1 or 2 gems in them. I'm not really impressed by Wii's launch line up at all. But I definately feel that more than anyone, Nintendo deserves the benifit of the doubt. And even if the system turns out to be a disaster, I'm more than willing to pay the full price of it for SSBB alone. But that's just me.

Woah, Duke... that's a pretty big contradiction right there. You're not a graphics whore, yet you state that better grahpics give you a better game?
That's pretty funny right there, especially considering that the system with the best graphics has NEVER pulled out in first in the industry. Guess that means we've all be missing out on the good games then.
I am worried about Wii though. I want some actual hands on time with it, on my own, to really decide if it's going to be great or not. And I think that's what we all need.
Developers have had around a year with kits. It's going to take them all a little while before we really see what they're able to do.
Personally, due to financial issues, I can't get a Wii until Christmas. I already informed my parents that I want a Wii for Christmas, and not to bother preordering it, since they'll probably be able to find it by the time Christmas rolls around. If not, I told them to get me a 360. So as it stands now, I want the Wii more. I'm gonna have a job over my Winter break, so I'll most likely have enough for whichever one I don't get. So in the end, I win. Even if I did have the money for a Wii when it launches, I don't see the justification in purchasing one other than knowing and being able to talk about how much fun it is, or how much it sucks.

I think you missed his point. He's not a graphics whore, meaning he won't go grab a game just because it looks amazing. He won't be first in line for a PS3 to play Motorstorm because there's deformable mud in it.
But he has a point. Great graphics really can enhance a playing experience. I'm not a graphics whore, but I agree completely with his statement. If sure if this were brought up against, say...the PS2 you'd also agree. ;)

Right now everything is rumors but usually something of the rumors is true so far this is what the current rumors are, and they sound possible.
Name:
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Release Date:
North American - UNKNOWN
Japan - December 31, 2007 (according to ign.com)
Europe - UNKNOWN
Scenario Mode:
- Scenario mode is at least 4 chapters: Mansion (RE1), Raccoon Police Department (RE2), Raccoon City Streets (RE3), and European Countryside (RE4)
- Uses a Resident Evil 4 style camera
- Slower paced action (ammo and healing item conservation)
- Completing Scenario chapters will unlock characters, costumes, and weapons
- Playable characters include Jill, Chris, Rebecca, Wesker, Leon, Claire, HUNK, Carlos, and Ada.
- Pressing A on the Wiimote at certain times will start "interactive scenes"
- Some or all doors can be destroyed
- Every character can hold 2 weapons at a time, and some weapons can only be used with specific characters
- Every character will have melee attacks. This will probably be the knife for most.
- Many in-game cutscenes to tie up loose parts of the story
Arcade Mode:
- Similar to The Mercenaries from RE4, but with more levels
- Fast-paced killing spree
- Unlockable characters, costumes, and weapons from Scenario Mode can be used here
Like I said it's possible this is all rumors but someone made this listed based off a bunch of different sites they read. So nothing to get to excited about just yet but either way it sounds promising if just the bare bones of this are the game.
There's some info here as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil:_Umbrella_Chronicles but I believe rumors on an RE Message board over that site even

That's pretty funny right there, especially considering that the system with the best graphics has NEVER pulled out in first in the industry. Guess that means we've all be missing out on the good games then.Wow...You apparently didn't understand what I meant by all things the same, so I'll try to clarify my statement for you. If the exact same game, lets use NHL 2007 as an example, is released on both 360 and the PS2, and the gameplay is exactly the same (meaning that we are not even counting the features xbox live adds to the 360 versioin) the 360 version is still a better game. Why? Because NHL 2007 has superior graphics on the 360. See, I never said graphics make a game because they don't. Honestly, Fight Night for 360 is one of the best looking games I've ever seen but I'd never own it because it's so freaking repetitive. Graphics don't make a game, but they can definitely make a game better and usually do. If graphics didn't matter at all, why would consoles ever need to upgraded? Why did Nintendo go from super nintendo to 64 or from the 64 to Gamecube? Because unless I'm forgetting something I don't really remember them being innovative with those moves.
Plus, I never said I wasn't getting a Wii. All I said was that I'm no longer excited at getting one at launch. I still plan to get one eventually and who knows I may end up camping out just to get one at launch. I'll make that decision when the time comes. But I probably won't simply because other than a slightly 'upgraded' Zelda (and I'm not even sure using the word 'upgraded' is even appropriate) Nintendo hasn't impressed me at all. And considering Gears of War is coming out, I think Nintendo will need to impress me before I put down my 360 controller for a Wii.

Honestly though, current gen graphics are fine by me. I'd rather they take the money that'd go into a bleeding edge graphics card and push that towards increasing processor and memory strength, or adding in a PPU.
That or cutting load times down so they arn't really there.
I do see your guy's point, as silly as I think it is.

I do see your guy's point, as silly as I think it is.
I don't think it's a silly point at all. Even in the slightest. Lets just use a game on all 3 platforms as an example. Call of Duty 3. Because the 360 and PS3 are so much more powerful, the game will look amazing. It'll have effects that blow the Wii version out of the water and it'll have a ton more enemies on screen. That automatically gimps the Wii version.
Graphics can make a game better. They don't mean everything, far from it, but they can greatly enhance the experience. As good as some games on the N64 are, are you telling me that you can go back and play them and have the exact same experience now that you did way back then? That whole generation of games is an eyesore.
And maybe you're saying this generation is fine and you can deal without all the fancy new graphics because you've spent limited time with the next-generation of consoles.

DS only is able to look better than N64 because of it's two very low rez screens. The main thing it has going for it is it's teriffic GPU that was optimised to run at 60FPS on most things. N64 couldn't run Ocarina at anything over 20. If you ran a DS game on a TV screen, it would like like lukewarm crap. As it is though, it kicks N64's ass.

Part of me thinks OoT needs to stay in the past where it belongs, while another part thinks it could work really well on the DS (Seriously, SM64DS wasn't the best game in the world, but if anything it showed that the DS can handle full 3D, and can handle it well). Peanut... I know they can have more on the screen, totally, but if a developer doesn't know how to handle that it's going to turn a lot of games into mindless "kill a billion things!" hack-n-slashes. That's why I'd prefer they keep ammounts low, but raise the AI. This is what made RE4 so great. Not only did you get swarmed, but those villagers were damn smart too. So far I haven't seen much of that.
And Ecto.... Make it 12-1.
Care to bring up anymore halfassed arguments?
As for the current topic....OoT and MM being ported to DS, while it'd be kinda nice, is stupid. I want a new portable Zelda game in the traditional style. Phantom Hourglass is going to be a fun game I bet, but I want a new LttP style game.
Besides, I already have versions of these running at better FPS and resolutions on Gamecube.

Yeah, but what about tons of enemies who all have intelligent AI? The new consoles can pull that off, Wii can't. Not that it really matters. There aren't many games that require huge amounts of characters on screen anyways.
And am I the only one who's more excited about Phantom Hourglass than Twilight Princess? I don't know. Nintendo killed TP in my eyes. I was super excited for it like a year ago, but all the dicking around Nintendo did killed every sliver of hype I had for it. They really dropped the ball by delaying it until Wii launch. I bet the Cube version has been finished for months and months and months.

And yeah. I'm not really looking forward to TP anymore. I should have had it over a year ago now. It's going to be great, I'm sure. I'm just not holding my breath for it. Oh, and I've decided to get the Gamecube version. I hope it flops on Wii out of spite.

I've honestly never been into the 2D Zelda games. Ocarina was my first one. Since then I haven't really been able to be enthusiastic about the 2D ones. That being said, and considering it is my favorite game, I'd rather have a 3D Zelda port. Though it doesn't really matter, cause they're already making PH. Oh well, I have TP to look forward to.

I bet the Cube version has been finished for months and months and months.
It's so funny that you say that because just yesterday I read the latest interview with Aonuma in a German Nintendo magazine in which he said that most of the GC version had been finished almost a year ago.

Well, I hate them as much as all of you for delaying the fu*king thing, but there is no way in hell I'm playing that game on a sh*tty GameCube with pathetic old school S-Video mesh-net quality picture. That's just punishing yourself because Nintendo are a bunch of dicks. Give me 480p Widescreen anyday over that sh*t. Dosen't change the fact that the game will rule, but then again, not looking at any media for it in six months helps a little.
I'm still reserving the whole second half of December and Janurary for Twilight Princess, but the whole month before goes to Gears of War and Sonic.

But I doubt that's the case. I hope. =\.
And it looks like they're just including Opera built into the system now. That'd be nice. There haven't been any demo videos of the Opera browser yet, right? I'd like to see how it's going to work.
Might have to check and see if our Gamestop has these boxes yet.

Peanut
10-18-2006, 10:36 AM
That's what a Wii is for. I'll be getting a component cable for that without a doubt, so I'll be set. The Wii version of Zelda intrests me so little. The more I hear about people playing it, the more I hear it's a bastard to control and completely unecessary, as it doesn't make it any more fun to play at all. It's more likely to detract from the fun, which makes it sound completely pointless.

I've been a little iffy about the Wii Version of TP ever since it was announced. I remember ORIGINALLY I had just decided taht I would go straight for the GC version anyways. But I can't say that for certain anymore. I'll definately need to see some reviews of the Wii version before I decide which one I wanna play. They've certainly had enough time to craft it into a masterpeice and work out all the little gripes and bugs, so hopefully there won't be any reason to harbor disappointment towards Nintendo, especially considering this is why we've waited like a year since the game was SUPPOSED to come out. It'd be a shame if that was all in vain.
Mecha Cow
10-18-2006, 01:24 PM
They delayed it because they know the 'Cube is dead and wanted to push it as a Wii game instead, not because they love us and want it to be perfect. ^_^
That being said, I would assume any bugs have been worked out by now. Still, the game was designed with the GC controller in mind, and that's the one I'll be using. Yeah, sorry Nintendo, but I'm not going to waste €60 just to try out your experimental last-minute control scheme that I may or may not like. Maybe if you included a damn option for traditional controls, but apparently that was IMPOSSIBLE.
Dr. Doom
10-18-2006, 01:28 PM
There is an option for additional controls. Buy the GC version.
I'm fully aware WHY they delayed it, I'm just saying I hope they used all that extra time to fine tune it.

Not that I had any intention of doing so, but apparently it is now illegal to import PS3's to Europe (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20489).
Their arrogance never ceases to amaze me. Oh Sony, you so crazy.

Well folks, Nintendo ****s up again.
http://wii.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=8006
Here we go again. Nintendo has once again opted not to sell their component cables in retail stores, which means we have to go online to buy them at exoberant prices. You know what this also means?
Sales will be low, and after a couple of years (or less), they'll drop 480p/Widescreen support in games, then remove the port from the Wii, claiming "gamers don't need these options, and have proven so due to low sales we intentionally caused to save ourselves a buck".
Yeah, we're all pefectly fine playing games with the same sh*tty video quality we used with the NES some twenty years ago. GameCube 2.0? No quite, but this smells awfully familliar.
Peanut
10-19-2006, 01:42 PM
OK. F*ck the Wii completely now. I don't even give two sh*ts anymore. Way to pull a Sony you morons. It blows my mind that Microsoft is the only company who actually knows what they're doing anymore.

Oh, come the f*ck on. Widescreen support from games will be gone? Hardly. Maybe in Nintendo, but I even doubt that. HD gaming has become the standard these days, and you think not selling component cables in retail stores is going to shut out the entire industry? Most people buy online, anyway. If I couldn't get it in retail stores, I'll bust out my credit card and order online. It's pretty easy, and arrives pretty quickly. I'm sure many others will do the same. Just because your favorite company isn't doing something, doesn't mean it'll affect the entire industry.
Peanut
10-19-2006, 01:47 PM
...lolz? Go back to your PC's you nerd! That's all you obviously know about!
Dude is talking about how the Gamecube component cables got canned and 480p progressive-scan and widescreen support went along with it. The newer Cube models even had the option for it stripped completely. He's not talking about the industry as a whole, just the Wii.
F*cking n00b.
Oh. Guess I got pwnd. I won't be posting in here anymore, then.
ThirdMarioBro
10-19-2006, 04:07 PM
My reason for snapping is that HD is the standard, and even though Nintendo wasn't packing in the cables, the fact that I could go get some at Best Buy for $14.99 was the saving grace. The problem here is, they're not being sold online. They're being sold online only though Nintendo's online store, just like Gamecube.
I assume the VGA cables are the same story. I think we all see what's comming for the progressive Scan support once again. Fu*k 'em. I cannot bare to go another 5 years with a 1985 quality video signal, and that's got nothing to do with graphics.
Mecha Cow
10-19-2006, 04:37 PM
What's all this stuff about the cables? I see people talking about it everywhere and I have no idea what it means. Does this have something to do with US TV's?
Peanut
10-19-2006, 04:56 PM
A component cable is the cable needed to make a TV run something, a DVD player, HD satelite box, videogame console, in any HD or supported formats.
Essentially without a component cable, games look blurry and washed out. I haven't touched my Gamecube since purchasing my HDTV for this very reason. I was super excited to hear Wii would support 480p and progressive-scan, despite that that's super low compared to the other two consoles. I was looking forward to playing Wind Waker in the highest resolution possible. Now I'll have to order the damn things online if I want to play my Wii games in a higher resolution.
In short, completely unexceptable. The 360 comes with component cables. And even though they're not packed-in, the PS3 component cables are still available to buy in stores.
Nintendo sold out those of us who've been struggling to play a Cube in unbearable resolutions. My fear is the same as TMB's. Segregation of the market, low sales, then the eventual cut off of support for 480p, Progressive Scan and Widescreen, soon followed by the complete stripping out the function from the base console. It's sickening, and as someone who's been playing games in 1080i for almost a year now, it's also completely unexceptable.
Mecha Cow
10-19-2006, 05:01 PM
Is this the same as a SCART cable? If not, I'm guessing us Euros use a different system.
Peanut
10-19-2006, 05:05 PM
If that's the cable you use to recieve HD signals on your HDTV's, then yes. I definately know you guys have a different system over there.
ThirdMarioBro
10-19-2006, 05:14 PM
It's not really similar to an SCART cable, but both perform the same functions, so it's the same kind of loss because both cables perform the same job. SCART is more similar to a VGA cable, while component is like a heavilly shielded three pronged RCA composite video cable that can carry HD signals.
Nintendo just did this as an excuse to cut support in a couple of years and blame it on us.
Mecha Cow
10-19-2006, 05:31 PM
Don't know about HD signals, I own a sh*tty 50Hz TV.
I would certainly hope the EU version comes with a SCART cable, as you kind of need it to, well, connect the damn thing to the TV. If this is what they're doing in the US, I can understand people's frustration.
I use the good ol' red yellow and white cables but the quality doesn't look blurry or washed out at all.
Peanut
10-19-2006, 05:45 PM
Then you're not running it on a HD set. Composite looks like complete and utter **** on a HDTV. You can adjust some of the settings to try and fix it up, but it's no where near as good.
Component blows everything out of the water. Even if a game doesn't support prog-scan, it still looks 100x better than if you were running on normal composite cables.
Kid Icarus
10-19-2006, 08:47 PM
Peanut's right. Component is amazingly better. I have my DVD player running on it... The scan lines are getting to me in games now. I can actually see them... and the colors are so ****ing blurry. I don't really boot up my N64 anymore because of it, as much as I love those games.
