Yeah, seriously WTF is this?! It has "Battle Maps" or something? Is this a Dragon Quest/Super Mario Bros. fighting game or what!? Combining the two things that could utterly destroy all of Japan as we know it, the DS and Dragon Quest. Ridiculous.

It's an advert for the new Itadaki Street game. It's kind of like Mario Party I think. And Nintendo and Square are bestest friends now so this one has Mario characters.
I have no idea why I know this.
*E* Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itadaki_Street_DS). Now give me my damn cookies.
Looks like a fighting game that has the characters from Mario and Dragon Quest. Online play with 1-4 players. Just an educated guess. I'm no Japanese master.

Perfect Dark (while being advanced in various ways from Goldeneye, it's still essentially the same thing) is still probably my favorite FPS. But then again, I was never quite into like Half Life or Quake or any of the REAL shooters.
It;s okay those games bored me too. People this PDZ is a horrible game but I like it. It for multiplayer though. My friends and me enjoy doing levels together. Something you can't do in most FPS games. The only other one I played that lets you do it is Halo. The others just have certin levels or none at all. Boring really, deathmatchs are nice and all but I want something more.
Plus in PDZ you don't die in 4 shots like in Ghost Recon, realitic, well not really. I don't know anyone who dies from getting shot in the leg 4 times. Atleast PDZ doesn't try and play on being real. And guys and you don't die from limb wounds.

I really don't think there's any getting used to bad controls for me. Either a game controls well, or it doesn't. PDZ just doesn't. When I was playing other stuff like CoD2 and even stuff like Halo 2 and RS3 on the original Xbox, it set my standard for FPS controls on a console. PDZ falls way short, which is why I played it for a couple hours the day I got my 360, then left it on the shelf ever since.
Spitfire
12-01-2006, 10:07 PM
Haha poor PDZ, sadly I would never have paid more then 30 bucks for it.

Squeenix said they would support all consoles equally, but we all know good and well that they always have a flagship console, and everyone else gets the leftovers.
Also, notice that Final Fantasy XII dropped off the top 10 a long time ago, and New Super Mario Bros. is still holding on at number 10 this week, and it came out way before Final Fantasy over there.
I think that says a lot right there.

Zelda looks MUCH cleaner. Not sharper, really, but not like someone smeared stuff all over the TV.

WHAT DO YOU NEED A COMPONENT CABLE FOR ON A NON-HD SET!? Everything doesn't look like someone smudged the game before it dried on a regular TV. It does on an HD set, boy does it ever. :(

I've been having this argument several places now. Component cables don't make a huge difference on an SD set, but they do make the color separation and sharpness higher.
Composite looks like bubonic plague on a HD set. I want to see all my Cube games in HD, but I'm not putting them, or Zelda in until I get my cables. Those damn things are the only rectifying element of this box not being HD.

No, because the exact point where that happens is the dumbest place to save ever. Why anyone would save there is completely and utterly beyond me, especially considering the circumstances of what you're doing at the time. I've also heard this only happens in very rare versions of the game, much like the glitch where a bridge disappears, trapping you on the opposite side of where you need to go.

Yeah, I didn't get the game yet (or the console, for that matter). But I'm waiting for the game to come through the mail. Just wondering if Nintendo got word of this and are working on fixing this if this problem happened to be persistent. If anything, I probably wouldn't save at some canon; I'd idiotically leave the game paused and on, while I'm out, then come back to it and just pick up from there.
But if this problem were a huge one, couldn't they just release some patch through WiiConnect24?

I ran into a glitch in the fourth temple in Zelda. It's not the cannon glitch mentioned above, but it is really annoying.
In the fourth temple, there's a part where you have to drag a block out of the way to enter the next room, and have to go through an obstacle course to make it through the doorway before the block slides closed again. Now, this would be a simple task, but there is a glitch. The room has quick sand in it, so when Link is in quicksand, he walks much slower, and understandably so. But the glitch is when he gets back onto solid ground, he still walks really slow. It looks like he couldn't find the toilet in time  . But essentially he walks as fast as if he had the metal boots on (and he goes the same speed if you put them on BTW). So naturally it is impossible to make it through the doorway in time if he can't even walk at a normal pace. The glitch happens at random times when you enter this room, and when you go back into the room you were in before (through a door), it goes away. I eventually got through it (after much anger) by getting lucky enough to not run into the glitch until a few meters in front of the sliding block, where I just transformed into a wolf and pressed the dash button. It gave me just enough speed to make it through. And by the way, Wolf-Link walks really slow too.
I hope I don't have to pass through that room again. It would be really easy if there was no glitch, but it's a real pain how it is. Has anybody else run into this glitch (out of those that have made it this far)?
Peanut
12-08-2006, 10:34 AM
Jesus Christ. I've seen this so many times. It's not a glitch! Transform into a wolf and press f*cking B! You've got enemies latching on to you that you can only see while using your senses in wolf form! I'm really sorry I'm getting angry here, but I've read about people complaining about this "glitch" so many times now that it's driving me insane. People are actually afraid to buy the game, because of the people announcing these so-called glitches, when in fact they just need to use their head for a single second.
And for your Euro's without Wii's, good luck. Reports were out about a week ago that Nintendo couldn't even meet demand for all the pre-orders, let alone people just wandering in to get one. There's also only one more shipment planned for the Euro market before Christmas, and all of those consoles are going to fulfill pre-orders.

"Wii-mote" trigger prompts lawsuit
User-interface specialist Interlink cries foul, files patent infringement lawsuit against Nintendo of America.
By Curt Feldman, GameSpot
Posted Dec 8, 2006 12:13 pm PT
While most in the game industry view the Wii's unconventionally shaped controller as something unique, there's one company that has a different view of the device.
Interlink Electronics, Inc., a California company that specializes in the design and manufacturing of interface devices, on Monday filed a complaint against Nintendo's US subsidiary, Nintendo of America, accusing it of patent infringement. Interlink's products include devices to assist in PowerPoint presentations, conference room keyboards, and portable speakers.
Interlink filed its complaint, first reported by Kotaku, in US District Court in Delaware.
The complaint alleges that the trigger on the bottom of the Wii controller infringes on Interlink Patent No. 6,850,221 (Trigger Operated Electronic Device), which the company secured on February 1, 2005. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata first presented the Wii controller to the public not too long after that date, during the 2005 Tokyo Game Show.
The drawings (above) which accompanied the patent application--first filed on September 17, 1997--do look suspiciously similar to the Wii trigger, but in the filing, Interlink offers scant detail of exactly how Nintendo currently infringes on the '221 patent, stating only that, "Nintendo has made, used, offered for sale and sold in the United States, and continues to make, use, offer for sale and sell in the United States one or more controllers which activities infringe, induce others to infringe, and/or contributorily infringe the '221 patent."
The complaint seeks a jury trial and damages to determine the amount of "loss of reasonable royalties, reduced sales and/or lost profits as a result of the infringing activities."
The device in question..

Yeah, just ran into that article myself. I say this lawsuit is bulls***. Who the f*** is Interlink anyway? As if their sales were hot to begin with.
A thought just occurred to me: didn't Nintendo have the idea of using this control before the patent was even placed? Nintendo talked about the "Revolution" at E3 2004, and Interlink patented this idea in Feb. 2005. Not saying that Nintendo is excused from the infringement, but if this lawsuit is implying the Nintendo stole this idea, Interlink can go to hell.

 HAHAHAHAHA! Compared to? Twilight Princess? You want to talk about uninvolved, inaccurate, and unintuitive mess, just look at the sword fighting in Twilight Princess. Try not to blind yourself to the PR hype Nintendo drummed up over the "new" sword fighting mechanic. It's nothing but a shoehorned gimmick. Especially considering it's not one to one, you may as well just be pushing a button. The only difference is that when you push a button, the game responds immediately and on a consistent (read 100%) basis.

At first, I recall wishing I was just pressing a button, the wiggling of the remote did just seem incredibly tacked on, especially because how you actually swing the remote doesn't matter, it's all based on in game context. If it DID responded directly to how you swung the remote, that'd make a big difference. However, at this point I'm just so damned used to wiggling the remote around to fight, the idea of just pressing a button actually seems a little strange to me. I guess it all depends on what you're used to.

See, everyone thought is was going to Wii, but that's just not possible. Yes, the Wii is going to be a worldly force in a couple of years (or less), but as it stands, the DS is five million from selling HALF the original NES's full global install base, and it's only been two years. DS is currently the world leading gaming platform. Wii will probably get the next one. Families are going to be curb stomping each other when this sucker comes out. It'll be madness.

There's a Dragon Quest game coming out for the Wii too...soooo. But yeah, was it ever in question over the last year that the DS would forever dominate the PSP in Japanese sales?
What about over here, though? Dragon Quest means little to nothing. While the DS is still doubling sales of the PSP, it's not out-right putting it to shame. The PSP sold something like 450,000 units in the month of November. It was beaten still by the GBA, though, at somewhere around 680,000 units sold. The real market is the America's now, not Japan.

Peanut, that DQ Wii game, while exciting, isn't a main entry into the series. It's to DQ what FF:CC was to Final Fantasy.
I've been playing Jap RPG's for countless years now, and I have never played a Dragon Quest game, ever. It's just not popular here. Maybe the Wii game will spark interest, but I doubt it. There's too many damn games for kids to just dive into the other games.

Speaking of Crystal Chronicles, I'm very excited for that to come out on Wii or DS. The first one was good with some obvious flaws, so I'm hoping the next entry will be a considerably improved experiance, and hopefully it'll be online. Scheduling sessions with people IRL for the GC one was a pain in the ass.

its popular enough here, just not FF level of popularity like it is in japan. DQ8 did a good job in getting even more gamers into DQ.
I don't know anyone who's played Dragon Quest. I'd love to know what makes it so special that warrants the word popular.

12-12-2006, 05:17 PM
Well, if I'm correct, Dragon Quest predates Final Fantasy as the first RPG of it's kind and I've been lead to believe that it sort of introduced the turn based RPG as we know it. I could be wrong though, I've never played it. That could have carried over into why it's considered to be popular. That and some people may feel somewhat more justified in a series that lacks the overwhelming popularity of Final Fantasy. A sort of elitist type of attitude, maybe. I dunno.
Peanut
12-12-2006, 05:54 PM
Yeah, seriously. I haven't heard anything about any Dragon Quest game, ever, from anyone, except online. And even then, I've only really heard anything about it here. No one seems to care about Dragon Quest. I don't recall it doing stellar numbers when the last one came out here, either. It got a price drop in about 2 weeks, then another price drop less than a month later.
I know some huge RPG fans and none of them have played a DQ game. It just isn't popular in America.

They've been out for awhile, the show was tapped last week sometime.
Anyways, some of the choices are good, some of them are bad. Some of the categories themselves are a complete joke, though. All those cast and performance categories need to be dropped.
I agree with the majority of the choices. The exceptions are Dead Rising winning "Best Action Game", which should have easily gone to any of the other listed games, preferably Okami or Bully. "Best Song" going to Yellowcard, (who only won because they were at the show) when it should have gone to LocoRoco. And finally "Best Studio" going to Epic. Relic should have gotten it, but I would have been fine with Clover getting the nod too, just out of respect.
Overall, the awards were still a complete joke. No one there knew what the hell a video game was, none of the skits were funny, and the band whoring has got to stop. At least the picks were more respectable this year, but I guess anything is respectable when compared to their first year, with Madden winning "Game of the Year'.
They really need some better categories. Stuff like "Surprise Game of the Year", "Best Returning Franchise", "Most Innovative", "Best Sound Design". You know what I mean? No one gives a sh*t about Cyber Vixen of the year, or having two different sports categories.
Biggest disappointment from this one? Viva Pinata, nowhere to be found.
As much as I'd like to have seen Nintendo take more of those, they're pretty dead on.
Like what, though? What from Nintendo has deserved an award this year in any of those categories? The Wii got breakthrough, NSMB got best handheld and TP got a free pass for Critic's Choice, because it's Zelda. That seems pretty fair to me, and in some cases, a little too fair.

You ever think that just maybe the reason TP got Critic's Choice is because it's a GOOD GAME? I think we all expected far too much from it, and since it didn't live up to what you hoped it to be, you feel that it's not as good as it is.

Uh...no. I don't think that at all. I'm not one to buy into the hype of something, to then be let down by it. I go into every game with very realistic expectations. And who said it wasn't a good game? It's obviously one of the best of the year.
I'm going to say this again though, Twilight Princess gets of easily because it's Zelda. Plain and simple. The magic of the series isn't there like it used to be. This is essentially OoT with a bigger, emptier overworld, and some mediocre wolf parts thrown in for good measure.
If any other franchise were to do the exact same thing for so many iterations, it would be blasted. Final Fantasy follows in those same foot steps, the only difference being that at least FF has a different story, Zelda is always essentially the same thing with some different quirks thrown in. The only one that was remotely different (of the main series) was The Wind Waker, and even that still followed the all too familiar Zelda path most of the time.
I looked at Twilight Princess as a Zelda and Nintendo fan boy when I first began to play it, but after successive play and finishing the game, I can confidently say that it just didn't have the effect on me the other games in the series did.

More evidence that Nintendo WFC will suck ass on Wii...
Strangely, despite the Wii hardware having its own friend list, Battle Revolution uses its own, independent friend list. Each game includes a unique 12-digit friend code, different from your Wii system number. To create a friend, both sides have to input the other's code. How you actually go about exchanging these codes is a mystery, as the information is not included on your battle pass. Once again, I presume Nintendo wants you to only exchange codes with your real life friends.
Yeah, so much for the death of having to input a code for every damn game. What is the point of the system code then? This is bullsh*t.

I just find it hilarious that neither Nintendo nor Sony could learn from Microsoft's success. X-Box Live is perfect and definitely worth $50 a year. Yeah, i smelled this almost a year ago, and it has been a fear of mine all along. GameCube games didn't sell, because nobody bought a GameCube. Does Nintendo think that because people are buying Wii's, they can just have the library remade? I'm exaggerating, and I know it won't be on that kind of scale, but every "Wii-make" they put out is wasted resources that could have gone towards making a game that really utilizes the controller's potential. Its like Twilight Princess. They essentially spent a year to "Wii-make" the game to utilize the control. Did it really add much to gameplay? No. It also didn't really take anything away (lucky for us), but I've said time and again, I only bought the Wii version for Pro-Scan and 16:9 support. I didn't get it for the controller at all. It works fine on GameCube...maybe better, depending who you talk to. I'm borderline. Its fine either way, but this would be completely different had we played Twilight on GameCube with 16:9 and Pro-Scan last year. Those wasted resources that went to Twilight Princess would have been used to make a Wii Zelda that could change how we precieve the series, and potentially change how games are played. Or maybe Mario would have made launch, because it also changes how games are enjoyed, without taking anything we already had. As it is, Twilight Princess is just a polish up of the traditional formula, which is totally fine, but the controls were wasted on it, because it doesn't really need them, and wasn't designed to use them. Fortunately it worked fine with them tacked on, but like I said, it was still a waste. Yes, I know Nintendo has already started development on the next one (they confirmed it in Nintendo Power), but how long did it take for TP to come out? Exactly. Moving on.
I'm whole heartedly against these Wii-makes. It is a waste of our pocketbooks, and it is a waste of what the Wii is truly capable of. Rigging an old game to work with motion control is not innovation. Games like Super Mario Galaxy are innovative. If they think we'll do fine with Wii-makes while new game resources are devoted to things like Wii-Sports, they are sadly mistaken.
I've said my peace, and now I'll drop the whole argument until Nintendo announces their "budget GameCube remake" line of titles next year. I guarantee you its coming. We know them all to well.

About that Wii Friend Code thing, I am now hearing that ONLY Pokemon Battle Revolution uses an individual code, since it's tied to the DS games (Which do use individual codes for its online system). Other games should just use the Wii's code. Let's wait this out before jumping down Nintendo's throat.

Diamond and Pearl still have free access online world wide trading *without* need for the friend codes (i can bet you the games are going to have word filters in place when naming the Pokemon though).
And as for the remakes... It depends to me personally if I've played the game before or not. Two Thrones is cool, since I haven't touched a POP game since SoT. If this becomes too much of a habit though... no.

I made Weird Al, as well as several other familiar faces such as Conan O'Brien, The Dude and Walter from The Big Lebowski, JD and Turk from Scrubs, Raven (Comic book version), Hannah, Rhen, and Dane (for those who still remember him). Maybe we need a list of Miis somewhere so we know where everyone came from. Pretty much the only people in my parade of 12 that I actually recognize are Peanut and Kurt. So It'd be nice to know where everyone else came from.

If you just click on the Mii, you can see who made them if they put it in. I always put my names on my creations, so you'll know if I made them. I made a Weird Al too. If it's old skool Al with the crazy hair and glasses, then it's mine.

To be fair, the majority of third party games on all systems are trash, but again, to be fair, if Nintendo pulls another goddamn GameCube, I will fu*king hang them and talk to all my contacts to tighten the nuse. We didn't have a thing to play from launch to the next fall, and then they all released at once so we can't enjoy a damn one of them fully. If this happens again, fu*k them. I'm not going through 10 months of VC games, then having them drop all the games in Christmas for me to try to play at once, and balance my budget for. I can't take that crap nowadays. I know this is a rumor, but look at the way they are behaving. I think we all know them well enough. They ALWAYS do this, and that fu*king Mario game has been in development for almost a goddamned decade. They hold everything and release it all at Christmas.
That said, the ideal situation would be Metroid in Winter, Mario/Smash in Summer, then the other one in winter, but that probably won't happen.
Either way, I just quit Twilight Princess. Apparently there isn't any rush, and I've got to string it out because there isn't a damn thing on DS anytime soon.
Fu*k you Nintendo and your bullsh*t promises. GameCube 2.0 in more ways in just the hardware apparently. Don't tell me I'm overreacting, because after the last year of GameCube, I can say whatever the hell I want. I was one of those suckers who sat an entire year with nothing to play....until I bought a 360, but once again, to be fair, there really isn't anything I want to play on 360 in the foreseeable future (pending new announcements).

I don't think anyone was saying we didn't like Gamecube. Especially TMB. What everyone complains about is that there were only 5-7 terrific games, depending on who you ask, spread throughout the entire life-span of the thing. You had Smash, The Wind Waker, Sunshine, and Metroid Prime. Two of those are bashed on a consistent basis. You had other stuff like Paper Mario, Pikmin, Star Fox and Animal Crossing, but most people don't put those into the same category as the afore mentioned.
Personally, coming out of Gamecube I had only a handful of games I loved. Paper Mario, Sunshine, tWW, Smash Bros., and Animal Crossing. That's 5 games in 5 years of existence. That's no where near enough. No one ever said the Gamecube wasn't good, just that it didn't deliver those amazing experiences on a regular basis.

Oblivion - Awesome
Gears - Awesome
Viva Pinata - Interesting, but lacking $$$. Probably eventually
Dead Rising - Played it. Became repetitive
Kameo - Awesome
Saint's Row - Not Interested
CoD2 - Disliked Multiplayer, and WWII games in general. Perfer Sci-Fi themed shooters

Only 5-7 terrific games? I wouldn't agree (http://cube.ign.com/index/reviews.html?constraint.floor.article.overall_rati ng=9&constraint.return_all=is_true&sort.attribute=article.overall_rating&sort.order=desc).
The Wii technology is still pretty fresh, and we've already gotten some excellent examples of what it's capable of. I was playing Trauma Centre at a friend's place the other day, and was honestly blown away by how well a surgery simulator turned out for a system that doesn't operate via mouse or touch screen. Even the sheer gameplay variety of Wii Sports was pretty mind-blowing, and I could see playing that game on a daily basis when I eventually get a Wii for myself.
I'm not too upset if Nintendo takes a little more time to make sure their big franchise games are as good as possible. Delays always suck, but in the end I'd rather wait a little longer for the best possible game than have them rush out a sloppier version.
(And again, this has yet to be confirmed.)

Time says PS3 was a bust
PlayStation 3 one of five things magazine says "went from buzz to bust"; calls console "hideously expensive," launch titles "lame."
By Staff, GameSpot

When the New York Times said the PlayStation 3 "just isn't that great" in November, many Sony fans were up in arms. However, those words were relatively kind compared to what Time had to say. In naming its "5 Things That Went From Buzz to Bust" for 2006, the magazine put the PS3 right up there with Snakes on a Plane, O.J. Simpson's If I Did It book proposal, and Bode Miller's goose egg at the Winter Olympics. The piece begins harshly ("The big story in computer games this year was HOW TO BLOW A HUGE LEAD, by Sony." (capitals in original)), continues brutally ("The PS3 is hideously expensive," "the launch titles were lame"), and ends with a schoolyard insult ("You know you're in trouble when you get beat by something called a Wii"). Time's disdain for the PS3 isn't unprecedented. For the console's launch, the magazine also ran an article titled "Sony's PlayStation 3 Is Not Worth the Hype."

I liked Luigi's Mansion, but not enough to put mention it as a defining game for the Cube. I thought RE4 was sh*t, same goes for Metroid Prime, you're not alone on that one.
Only 5-7 terrific games? I wouldn't agree.
Right. Did you actually look at that list? I was speaking in terms of Nintendo, first-party exclusives. Half of the games on there are third-party sports games. I had an Xbox at the time, so anything multi-platform was always better on that. You've also got stuff on that list that hardly qualify as terrific. Wave Race: Blue Storm, F-Zero GX, Timesplitters 2, True Crime and Aggressive Inline deserve 9's? Tell me what with a straight face.
The core Nintendo games are always terrific, and even their lesser stuff is good. But killer apps come, realistically, 5-7 times per generation from Nintendo. And in the 5-6 years these things live, that isn't enough. But you should probably note that it takes a lot for a game to impress me these days, so whatever I say is probably a little more cynical than what most people believe.
Edit: This. Is. Amazing!

Now I'm a Mario Kart man.Just so your aware, that comment wasn't directed at you or anyone else specifically. It was just more of a general statement about how I can't understand some people's taste in games. There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking a racing game, it just isn't really my cup of tea. Although, IMHO there is something wrong with wanting to give a 10 to F-Zero GX. I guess to me a perfect 10 actual means something and I wouldn't give it out unless I actually thought a game was perfect. Sorry, but I just can't believe F-Zero GX is perfect.
Peanut
12-21-2006, 11:02 AM
I really don't think there has ever been the 'perfect' game, but I do believe we all have our own beliefs of what could personally live up to that title. For instance, I really love ESIII: Morrowind, to me it's perfect. I'm probably in the minority, but I've never played a game as long as I've played Morrowind, not even a quarter as long.
I would personally never give any racing game over a 7, simply because they're all pretty much the same and you're only ever doing one thing. Granted, some racing games like Mario Kart have you fighting each other with items, dodging traps and what-not, but your average racing game doesn't do that. F-Zero is just fast and the cars float. There's really little else that differentiates it from other games of the genre, specifically if you were to compare it to other sci-fi racing games, like Wipeout.
The same would go for J-RPG's. As an action/platform gamer, I tend to think they're worthless wastes of time. I'd much rather play a game, and have actual control over it, than sit and watch it play itself out. But some people love sitting and watching 15 minute cut-scenes. Obviously a ton of people do, otherwise series like Final Fantasy and even Metal Gear would be a flop.
It really all comes down to perspective, and what kind of games fit your tastes. TMB always tends to lean towards old school stuff. I don't know if it's because he just thinks it's better, or because he gets some kind of hardcore nostalgic trip from it, but that's where his interests in games lay. F-Zero may give him that burst of old school flava or game play, mixed with a nostalgic franchise that puts it over the top for him. I returned F-Zero after only 8 days of owning it (which is better than the whole two days I owned Metroid Prime), but it's just because it's not the kind of game I like. If TMB digs it that much, more power to him.
Dr. Doom
12-21-2006, 11:32 AM
GX took away the best part of the previous F-Zero games: the Metal. It was a fun game, I recall renting it, but I don't know if it was anything that would really keep me busy for that long. I didn't get that far into the costumization or the story mode tho, so who knows. My biggest gripe was with the music.
I really don't think there has ever been the 'perfect' game, but I do believe we all have our own beliefs of what could personally live up to that title.I honestly believe Super Mario World is perfect for it's generation. I say for it's generation not because I believe the game is dated (actually i don't think it's dated at all. That's what is great about the SNES compared w/ the PS1/N64 gen) but compared with today's standards some people would probably argue that it is "too short" for a perfect console game.
If TMB digs it that much, more power to him.I totally agree with that...I have a good friend who loves the Xenosaga Series. I personally think it is complete garbage. I actually "played" the first for like 3 hours and in that time I think I could actually control my character for like 15 minutes. But if that is what my friend wants to imo "waste" his money on then more people to him. Everyone is different and everyone has his own taste.

I don't tend to lean towards old-school stuff as much as I probably tend to lean towards old-school brand names, but that's just me, and I probably won't change, with the exception of Sega. They can go straight to hell. I don't think I'd want to change either. I enjoy plenty of of other stuff, so it balances out in my mind. I'm just not the kind of person who could want to rush out and buy the latest disposable WWII shooter. I like games from series, or games that I know will have long-lasting value. I like Halo, and I like Gears, because they are both Sci-Fi in nature, and don't confine themselves to the limitations of historical rhetoric, or try to recreate history. They can take me places that are limitless in nature, but from a technical side, I also know both are from series and developers (Bungie and Epic) that will run for a looooong time, and they are something I can depend on in the long run. I played Oblivion, and got hooked on the Elder Scroll series, and I have a pretty good idea that series is going to be going for a long time to come. Peanut got me hooked on that one. I bought Kameo out of loyalty to Rare, and was not disappointed. I like my brands. Then there is Nintendo. I guess I just like to follow a pack. I'm a creature of habit.
Also, Wipeout and F-Zero may share a genre, but Wipeout is slow, slippery, and just broken in comparison. I guess I'm just the only F-Zero fan here . I'm not really a fan of racing games in general. I just like the few that are so unrealistic, and so fast, they provide an adrenaline rush.

I read YouTube works just fine (surprising, considering the limited RAM), so I'll be parking it on the couch and watching nerds play Super Mario Bros music on their pianos, and that Corpomix arrangement of Halo's theme on my Wii. I mean, yeah, its just a browser and I could do that right here, but the novelty of doing in in the living room on the big screen is fun.

I had some interest in the Wii browser, but then I hooked up my PC to my TV via VGA cables, so the whole "web browsing on TV!" thing is pointless to me now.
edit: I'm now typing from my Wii. The screen resolution is awful! Still loads better than PSP though.

Here's a cool video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM-GcarLxlE) of a guy who plays the music of Sonic the Hedgehog along with the game. I'm downloading his sheet music to give it a try myself.

I have my new router, so everybody add my friend code. I'll be adding your's later.
I took a week off for Christmas and drove home with my Wii. I was totally suprised at how much my parents enjoyed it. I know it's supposed to be for non-gamers too but no one thinks video games are a bigger waste of time and money than my dad. However, he jumped right in their on Wii Sports and played right along with me and my sister. And now my parents are going to get one for my sister when they can find one. All, I can say is good job Nintendo!

Wow, so, yeah. My Wii froze up a few minutes ago going into the Mii channel. I dunno what the hell to think of that. I couldn't do anything, the reset and power buttons wouldn't even work, I had to unplug it. Everything seemed to be ok when I turned it back on, but I can't help but feel this is rather ominous. I did drop the thing like a little over a week ago. It wasn't a terrible fall, it landed on carpet, but I guess I thought that was worth mentioning.

Mine froze up on me again this morning while leaving the Mii channel to look for the new Mii's that the majority of you people still haven't sent me. Pfft.
I think it's a software bug. It only happens in that channel, and only when I'm leaving for the main menu. They'll fix the bugs later in an update I suppose. I just held down the power button 5 seconds to shut if off, then powered back up and went on.

The only problem I had was when my internet cutout while I was browsing the shop channel. Everything froze up and I couldn't do anything. Boo-urns.
Mine froze up once on the Internet Channel, I just held the power button down like TMB did and it turned off. I figured it froze cause it's beta software.

That sounds remotely similar to something my GameCube pulled January 2002. I was running Hoth in Rouge Leader, and the thing just crashed like a cocaine high. The game froze, horizontal lines (NES style) appeared on the screen, and the thing made a high-pitched squeal loud and shrieking enough to have dispersed a pilgrimage to Mecca. Never did it again though to this day, though I'll probably never play it again to give it the chance to.

I'm currently playing Super Mario World for the tenthousandth time and I've been wondering about a certain type of secret cave you find. You know, the things when you go down the tubes.
See, there's this one type of cave where you get a lot of platforms with three "?"-blocks in them. If you manage to make all three to appear as a white circle on green ground, you get a 1UP. I was wondering: Is there a system behind that?
And does anyone actually like any swimming level?
Mecha Cow

Not even Nintendo themselves like the swimming levels.
Peanut
01-02-2007, 06:12 PM
It's random. Sometimes there's a pattern you can pick out, but rarely.
And I don't think anyone overly enjoys the swimming levels, however I do like levels with water featured in them, just not as the primary obstacle.
Ok, I wanna ask for all of you guys' advice before goin' on.
As Peanut can vouch for me, my Wii was connected to the internet just fine. I sent him a message and whatnot. Then all of a sudden, without me doing ANYTHING to my Wii or router, the connection stops working. I reset my router and settings, nothin'. I reformat my Wii, nothin'. I even buy the frickin' DS Wi-Fi USB thingie and not a goddamned thing. Like, my Wii can pick up on the signals of the router and USB thing, but when it comes to the connection test, I get an error message. Should I just send it out to Nintendo to repair or do you guys have any ideas?

Dude, I'm getting the same problem. Only difference is mine will cut back in every so often. It's been hell trying to download anything from the Wii Shop, because my connection rarely works. It doesn't make any sense, because my PC gets the wireless connection just fine, and it's literally 3 feet from my Wii. It doesn't make any sense to me. I keep getting those stupid error messages too.
It wouldn't be anything to do with overloaded servers would it, I remember seeing a lot of people with that problem on Christmas Day and if Peanut's been able to connect some of the time it kinda sounds like it's the servers. I haven't had any trouble with mine, but they probably use different servers this side of the Atlantic (and they probably aren't half as busy).

Mine is sitting two feet from my PC which has perfect wireless reception, yet the Wii wouldn't pick up a damn thing. I set it on top of the PC, and it connects perfectly. Weird. I would complain, but moving the 360 two feet made its wireless issues go away too, so whatever.
As for the Super Mario World bonus stages, I believe there are five patterns, one of which is randomly selected before you enter the main stage.
I always choose to select the two end blocks and then the middle one last. I usually alternate which end block I start with. It usually works pretty well but there are times it doesn't seem to work at all. If that happens I just start selecting them with no pattern in mind.

For those of you who are having problems with wireless connections, you always have the option of buying one of these (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/acc/wiiLAN.jsp) once they're released. I'm not a big fan of wireless networking, so that's what I plan to do when I get a Wii.
My router has both wireless and wired capabilities. I'm very partial to wired connections when it comes to online gaming but I do use the wireless part for my laptop. But I guess I'd rather save the money and continue to use the free built in wireless of the Wii.

Latest rumor is that those jerks at Nintendo are going to stab us in the nuts and drop the price of Wii to $199 in Spring for the same bundle (Wii Sports and all). They'll also release the black one.
Colorwise, I don't care. I wanted the Pearl White one from the day I saw it. Price wise.........yeah.

Welcome to why I don't buy systems at launch. I wait at least half a year or more. Especially Nintendo systems, they always come out with a new color and drop price, or a new model. It's annoying.
That and the usual hardware issues. I bought my 360 too soon now i have to return it because it sounds like the motor inside it is going to explode. It makes grinding noises and the disk tray jams a lot. It also takes forever for it to load a game sometimes and while it is it makes tons of noise. Sad too cause I've taken nothing but the best care of it. I even ripped my intercooler off after I heard it was bad for your system. That was the worst that it's been through.

I only care about the color...I like the look of the black Wii better.
The price drop doesn't bother me. Either I get it in November or wait until March/April and save $50. I'd rather have it from day one and play it for 4-5 months, than wait and save a measly $50

I don't understand, I got my console a couple months after launch, and I've never had a single problem with it. Not even once. Maybe I'm just lucky, but no one I know personally has ever had a problem either.
Why would Nintendo drop the price so soon?
To completely and utterly destroy Sony in Japan? They're making upwards of $70 on each Wii sold as it is. Imagine how much the cost on manufacturing the hardware is going to drop in 6 months. They'll probably be making upwards of $100 on each console. Why sit there and sell 2,000,000 Wii's at $100 profit, when you can sell 5,000,000 Wii's at $50 profit? Why even give Sony the chance to put a stranglehold back on your home territory? They already have Sony running off with their tail between their legs in the portable market, beat the sh*t out of them in the console sector and they've essentially got a monopoly on the Japanese gaming market.

I got a problem with the Wii. I now have a replacement system and everything is working smoothly on it, but I want to transfer my Zelda game file to my new Wii. I have a Motorola 64MB micro SD card from a cell phone, and I can save a game file to it, but I cannot copy the file from the SD card to the other Wii. It says the file was not copied.
At first you would think that it is not compatible with the Wii, but then why can it save the file onto the SD card in the first place? Do I need a different SD card to make this work?
I'd really prefer if I could transfer my Zelda file since I am in the city in the sky and don't really have the passion to start things over again right now. If I have to I will, and I'm sure I could get back to where I was in about 20 hours or so, but I'd just rather transfer it.
Any ideas? Has anybody else encountered this problem?

Word is there's another software update comming that'll allow this. Until then, no. Each save file is tied to the Wii it's saved from.
You could always call Nintendo to find out for sure though.
