It looks great, especially for something fan made but do people really want a remake of Majora's Mask? What an annoying game that was.

Thank you! I wouldn't mind it, but the Zelda fanbase is so annoying for really wanting one so badly. And it's not like they want it because it deserves one, but only because Ocarina of Time saw one.
Wind Waker HD, please.
That would be cool. But I'd rather see that style return in a new game. Imagine how much nicer it could look on Wii U or 3DS.

It was an amazing style. The DS just couldn't capture it as well as the Gamecube did. And seeing as the 3DS is like a portable Gamecube and the Wii U can handle anything the 360 and PS3 can, it would work nicely on either one.

I'd prefer something new, we get the same stale stuff over and over again as it is. Skyward Sword was a nice attempt at a similar but somewhat fresh style, too bad most of it just didn't look great and the game was a piece of trash anyway.
Ah, it's been awhile since I've expressed my hatred for that sh*tty game.
I guess Nintendo is still making excuses why their games won't/don't have online multiplayer. Pikmin 3 has too many Pikminz. (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/13/pikmin-3-lacking-online-multiplayer-because-there-are-a-bunc/)

Where the f*ck is the second circle pad on the 3DS XL??? Nintendo is so f*cking retarded...
Peanut
06-22-2012, 08:46 AM
Not only is a second circle pad entirely unnecessary, but Nintendo would be absolutely INSANE to split their user base on hardware that has just recently started to catch on seriously. Personally, I don't want any ****** console ports on my handheld and adding that second stick would lead to more of that.
Barkworm
06-22-2012, 02:37 PM
I always thought the whole point of the circle pad add-on was to make sure that the user base would NOT be split if an upgraded version was released. If anyone is alienated at all, it's those who own the circle pad and want to upgrade to an XL because the old one won't be compatible with it.
Peanut
06-22-2012, 03:31 PM
But the circle pad add-on is completely optional. The second you put that thing on a redesign it becomes a standard feature of the hardware, which games would (presumably) then be designed around. What Nintendo would be doing at that point is forcing older 3DS owners to go out and spend money for a poorly designed piece of add-on hardware, furthering sh*tting on the early adopters who got burned already by the ridiculously early price cut.

I'm definitely sticking with my 3DS model. Though I'll admit, the 3DS XL would be especially ideal for streaming Netflix with its bigger screen, but that's just me. However, I actually got myself a DS lite despite having the original DS model because I found its stylus to be more comfortable. I've still got the original DS model too.

The battery life of the unit is said to be an improvement over the current model. That might be a better factor on deciding if it's worth it to you.

Nothing will "look better" on the XL. It will look worse. The DSXL is proof of that.

The 3ds and the dsi are no comparison with each other......The dsi could only play games like spirit tracks which had bad in game graphics....but ocarina of time 3d would look good on any screen.

It probably wouldn't work well since the sword can already fulfill the axe's purpose of slicing things. In Twilight Princess, we had the ball & chain because you needed it to SMASH large obstacles that a sword couldn't cut, similar to the Megaton (OoT) and Skull (WW) Hammers in other games. Giving Link an axe in a newer LoZ would seem rudimentary since the sword could already cut things. Maybe Nintendo would make it so that some objects could ONLY be cut by the sword, but overall, I can't see it happening.

@The 3DS XL conversation...
I was actually reading an article about the 3DS XL earlier on a Nintendo magazine website and according to the guy who wrote it, the larger screen does improve how the games look.
Here (http://www.nintendo-gamer.net/2012/07/03/eight-things-we-love-about-the-3ds-xl/)'s the article, if anyone is interested.
Anyway... I won't be getting one. I don't see the point in dishing out more money for another 3DS when I already have one that I'm perfectly happy with.

I just got back from Gamestop. I pre-ordered a Wii U (black Deluxe Set), traded in an old 3DS (I have a new 3DS XL in its place!) and got $91 credit for it, not bad! And a few other games.
I'm #3 on the pre-order list so I should be guaranteed to get one on launch day :D :D
I'm so-so on the Bayonetta series, but It is so great to see Wii U already getting some high-profile exclusives that aren't developed by Nintendo itself. Wii U is off to a good start for 3rd party support.
Current planned games I'm getting: Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U, LEGO City Stories, ZombieU... jury still out on the rest.
Now I sit and pray for a Nick TMNT game on the Wii U! I think it could happen :D :D

I know what you mean, but in my case, it would be a new Legend of Zelda, or a Metroid or Star Fox game. I've been finding that's those are my primary reasons for getting Nintendo systems. I haven't owned a Mario game for a while since Super Mario 64 until I got New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, but I even ended up selling that after a while. I did buy Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii though, since I got it for the SNES back then. The fact that the one for the Wii would include a retrospective booklet gave me incentive to get it.

I hope they give New Super Mario Bros a rest for a few years after "U". I think that is their plan. They have released several recently. I like them, but IMO they do feel samey. I'm getting NSMBU but if they released another one it is highly unlikely I would buy it. Unless it were like Super Mario Bros 2 which I loved. They need to revisit that formula. (Yes, I know SMB2 was originally not meant to be a Mario game... long story, look it up if you don't know)

I don't care that SMB2 wasn't mean to be a Mario game. In fact, I agree with your sentiments as well. SMB2 was cool to me because you could actually play as the Princess, and you could pluck stuff from the ground and throw them at enemies. By the way, has Wart been seen in anything since that game? I know he makes a cameo appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, but I'm not counting that since he was being used for a completely different character.

Other than the pseudo-sequel BS Super Mario USA (which more or less was All-Stars SMB2 with slight differences and a plot that took place after SMB2), he's been relegated to cameos only.

Wart should definitely make a comeback. He was a pretty cool character, and the way you had to beat him was nice and unique.
As for NSMB I wouldn't mind more of them if they developed them to their potential. I was extremely disappointed that NSMB Wii looked like a ds game. They could've filled the game to the brim with detail but they passed on it. All I want is a Mario game where he's as detailed looking as he is in the SSB games.
Smash Bros. has its own style, that's the point.

Nintendo confirmed you won't be seeing any new 2D Mario for a while. Only one of them come out per system, so now that the 3DS and Wii-U have a 2D Mario, you won't see another till whenever the next handheld comes out, and that likely won't be for another 5 years.

How were the older 2D Mario games more creative than the newer games?
Leo656
10-16-2012, 12:52 AM
I guess since they used many of the ideas first, and newer games have mostly expanded on those older ideas, the originals could be called "more creative" by some.
I've never played a Mario game I didn't love, new or old. Loved the ending to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I thought that was pretty "creative" for that series. I play Mario for a nice mix of "creative" and "familiar", like Zelda.

My gamestop pre-order (all paid) currently consists of:
Wii U black Deluxe w/ nintendoland bundled
Wii U Pro Controller (black)
New Super Mario Bros U
ZombiU
this is launch day. I am taking 2 days off work to play it (hey! i am almost at my PTO cap, don't scoff :p) Hopefully I can buy a few eShop games too, but I don't know a lot about what they'll have available on launch day other than Trine 2, which I already own on PC
my post-launch day games i've decided to get (not paid off, but on my radar):
LEGO City: Undercover
Pikmin 3
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
wait-and-see games, will decide once I have more info:
Rayman Legends
Scribblenauts Unlimited (saw some new promo art that shows all the paper mario characters and zelda characters are in it. nice.)
Injustice (DC fighting game)
007 Legends
Epic Mickey 2
Skylanders Giants
Avengers (yeah, another superhero fighter)
Currently I am playing Pokemon Black 2 on my 3DS XL, looks great! The Pokemon Dream Radar app for 3DS is neat as well

Been loving my Wii U! Here's my haul so far:
Wii U Deluxe 32GB with Nintendo Land
Wii U Pro Controller (black)
ZombiU
New Super Mario Bros U
First OS update was a pretty brutal wait. Nintendo network is possibly slower than the PSN which is notorious for its slow speeds.
No regrets. The OS could be speedier, but hopefully over time they'll improve it. the 360 and PS3 OS's improved dramatically as time went by, both in speed and ram usage. Nintendo historically is not as adept at updating like the other two, but who knows, maybe they are learning?
ZombiU is the real stand out title for me. I think the fears of it being just a Red Steel 2 were overwrought, it's a pretty solid launch game. I love the difficulty, and the graphics are decent enough. You can tell by the reviews that've come out that this is a very polarizing game, the reviewers tend to love it and give it a high score or get frustrated by the difficulty and repetitive nature of the combat and dismiss it. Know what you are getting into before purchasing and you should be fine. If you like Dark Souls you should enjoy it.
I'm currently investigating external USB hdds to see what will suit my needs. 2TB is way overkill, 500GB or so should be more than enough. I'm gonna need one eventually but for now I'm good.
Bring on Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 U and LEGO City Undercover :D :D :D

Well you know, Miyamoto-san often said how much he likes the Starfox Universe. While I do believe him, I don't see any action they actually work on a new Game. Every year on the E3, Fans hope and get nothing. We only got a Remake(which isn't bad at all, I love Lylat Wars) and Command, let's be serious, it was a bad Game.
I'm just not sure if there is a possibility of a new Game. ._.

In regards to the Wii-U, I need some more flagship character titles to hook me before I commit, but there's no doubt in my mind that I eventually will. I'm definitely interested, just gotta have incentive that better grabs the attention of my personal tastes. Can't afford it right now anyway, so there's really no sting to it. The 3DS eshop has really kept me happy lately, seems like more & more titles are coming out that are made up of my favorite things. Been buying nearly one a week this last month or so. On that note, gonna have to get Crashmo soon.

I'll just say that Command isn't my favorite game in the series. Assault's control scheme was just God-awful, although I did finish it. Star Fox 64 (3D) is cool, and I actually like Star Fox Adventures.
I dunno, some people said the same thing about a regular DK game, then boom, Donkey Kong Country Returns. I still think there's hope.
I think it's also kind of like how there wasn't any talk of a Metroid game for the N64, but ever since the Game Boy Advance and GameCube, plenty of Metroid games have come out. So just because there hasn't been any talk of a Star Fox game for a while, I don't think it means there won't ever be anymore.

Well the console will not likely get any discounts so why wait, I get to enjoy buying something when it just came out which is always fun and I get to reserve my NNID names that I want.
I've enjoyed playing with the OS and everything it offers, it's pretty fun. Yeah the system has a bunch things I wish it had but overall I'm happy with it and I'll be happy with it, very easy and innovative stuff all around, it will have some great games third parties or no third parties. Nintendo land is already more fun than Wii sports even if it's indeed another minigame collection, it shows off all the system could do with full games.
Can't wait for E3, I'm betting Nintendo will pull out the big guns, not to mention a likely new XBOX and a possible PS announcement, it should be fun.

My older brother gave me the Wii U for Christmas, and it's pretty cool. It has potential.
Nintendo doesn't really have to sell me on anything. I pretty much know I'm gonna have fun with most of their first party titles, and anything 3rd parties make worth playing is just a nice bonus to me.

I dunno their launch titles seemed a little meh to me. I mean I already own Batman Arkham City and wouldn't buy it again just for a few tacked on extras and gimmicks and other than Zombie U, New Super Mario Bros. Wii U and Nntendoland there's just nothing out to make me wanna buy one now

If Smash Bros. 4 comes out for the Wii U, I'm certainly going to buy one. Otherwise, not much about the console interests me.
There'll obviously be a Smash4, it was already announced. As far as those people undecided I don't get it, you know you'll get enough first party games to make it worth it. So if you like Nintendo games it's a no-brainer and if you don't then the Wii U was never an option to begin with. The only question is whether you buy one now or later.
As far as games, I thought it had no good games at launch but got it anyway just to have it since eventually there'd be games for me, I bought the deluxe which came with Nintendoland which while the concept seemed cool, it seemed boring. I've actually quite liked it, it has a very fun arcadey feel instead of mini-game collection. I've been impressed, I also bought Mighty Switchforce HD on the eshop and it's awesome, it's also available on the 3DS so if you have a 3DS I suggest picking it up, I might even double dip just to have the game in portable form even if the graphics will take a step down. So overall I'm happy with the purchase.
Now one thing that pisses me off is how slow the OS is and the terrible battery life the tablet controller has, both of those are unacceptable and never what I'd expect from a Nintendo product. They really slipped on those two. I hope the OS can be fixed by updates but I am not too hopeful, it isn't terrible but for a Nintendo sytem I expected a smooth experience like with apple prodcuts. I don't even know how the controller uses up so much battery, my crappy chinese tablet, iphone and other similar devices last longer with brighter/bigger screens and more processor heavy things being done on them.
And Nintendo has always been about missed opportunities, and their online store is still one of them, sure there's tons of improvements and it's miles beyond what we had on the Wii however there's a ton of features we want like accounts, or at the very least have the VC on Wii U, it's ridiculous that i have to go into Wii mode to play VC games. I don't even care anymore that I now own Super Mario Bros on the Wii and the 3DS when I should only have one copy of the game across both systems (bought the Wii version way back and the 3DS copy was a free ambassador download, I would've never bought the game twice consciously and support this terrible ideal Nintendo has). It's reasons above why I eventually stopped buying VC games and why I don't buy VC games on the 3DS (ok I got a some but they were GB games so they didn't overlap with the Wii VC. I'd buy so many games in a heartbeat if I could play them on both devices, hell if I knew my digital purchases would be available in all future Nintendo devices I would expand my catalog. Even though we were able to "transfer" the Wii files to the Wii U, I'm still not sold that this can be carried on forever. Hopefully these things are addressed during E3.

I think that's because nintendo try's to get the most from there systems... the N64 had lame games until 1998 with Ocarina of Time... and 2 years later we got Majoras Mask and Donkey Kong 64 which needed the expantion pak just to be able to play them... the gamecube had to wait until 2006 with twilight princess to get a real good graphics.... the Wii had to wait until 2011 with Skyward Sword to get the full power of the wiimote with wii motion plus..... I think that if you give nintendo time they will release great games.....

I don't either. Gen 5 came out on the tail-end of the DS after a previous gen (the DP games) were the first big games on DS, followed by the Gold/Silver remakes.
Gen V was pointless when you think about it. They should have saved these pokemon and combined them with the next one.

Start saving for a 3DS if you don't have one :p I recommend getting a 3DS XL. They are only a tiny bit more expensive, but the build quality is better, bigger screen, bigger battery, better positioning of the stylus, better start/menu/select buttons. Main downside is fewer color choices.

I bought a launch 3DS. the black one. so I had ambassador status. I bought a 3DS XL (blue) and did a system transfer, transfering all of my ambassador games etc. then I traded my black one as credit towards my Wii U. I'm pretty happy with how it panned out. I got some good play out of my original 3DS, but I'm happier with the new model.
I wouldn't blame anyone who gets the original model though. It does have a certain aesthetic to it that some may prefer. And it's a bit more portable. Best thing to do is get up close and persona with each and chose which you like more.
BW does still feel fairly new to get a new gen but GenIV couldn't have been carried on for 3 more years. I guess maybe GF was also not in the know of the 3DS since Nintendo did seem to kind of rush it. And maybe X/Y were rushed since the 3DS needed a sales boost. Who knows.
Watching that retrospective made me really want to have Red/Blue in the VC, I don't know why, I own them obviously and if I ever were to play them again I'd play the remakes.

I thought Black/White were a rushed and pointless generation. I liked some of the pokemon, but it just wasn't a big deal.
I was honestly only a huge Pokemon fan through the first 3 generations, (Kanto-Hoenn). I started losing interest when DP came around but I was still in the franchise so I enjoyed it, albeit less than the previous 3.
Kanto, Johto and Hoenn were mostly part of my younger years, which is why I favor the first 3 gens over the others. I do like DP though too.
Hopefully X and Y is better than the 5th gen was.

I was big into Pokemon with the first two gens, but gen 3 is where it lost me. D/P just kinda further cemented how stale the series had gotten. When HG/SS hit, I think it really kickstarted my nostalgic feelings for the series and that got me through Platinum.
I think B/W was a great generation in the way that it brought an entirely new cast of Pokemon to the table with no mention of the older gens, which was incredibly exciting at the time. B/W2 however, was clearly a cash grab. Make a pseudo-sequel to cash-in on another dual game run, while the real next-gen game was in the works.
Either way, I'm glad they're moving things forward in at least a single aspect, but I really hope the graphical shift isn't the only thing they're overhauling.
I lose and regain interest in the series a lot which is what I like about PKMN, I can go a long time without caring and then I just get on a PKMN kick and get huge on it again for a while and the cycle begins again, so I've actually enjoyed all the gens.
The problem with B/W is it came out what weeks before the 3DS came out? It looked dated on launch, the idea of a reboot was excellent with no old Pokemon including Pikachu was a bold move but it was entirely wasted because Nintendo was moving on and the game felt like an old game when it was being released. A shame really, in fact because of that Gen III did the whole reboot better and it included plenty of old Pokemon.
Now, how many more gens before the number of Pokemon is ridiculous, it's already getting there with over 700 total after this gen. Limiting the National dex helps but by the time we get to 1000+ in Gen VIII or IX...
I will miss the hell out of having sprites but since D/P and especially after B/W we knew the next games would be 3D. At least they're celshaded graphics, it always bothered me the console games didn't use cel shaded graphics and Pokedex 3D also didn't. This franchise was made to have cel shaded graphics if it were in 3D. I still hope we will one day have that Pokemon MMO.

What's the point of erasing so many pokemon, including Pikachu though? You'll them just have people complaining to bring all the old pokemon back in the next game.
Hell both Ruby/Sapphire and BW already tried to reboot the franchise, and both times people wanted old pokemon back.

I've been waiting for Nintendo to release a Pokemon on 3DS (hence, why I skipped out on both B/W and HG/SS), and I'm excited to see what they can come up with for X/Y. The graphical overhaul is also another thing I've been looking forward to, and I'm curious to see if the game's National Dex includes every Pokemon thus far (which would be insane 0_o).
reboot with fresh 150? That's what they basically did with B/W and I don't see that happening again for another two gens since it's already been done. Hell even during interviews they mentioned when creating new Pokemon for BW they didn't take into account if they had already done an X Pokemon like they had done with previous gens and they wanted to start fresh and not worry if there was already a normal bull Pokemon. And yeah R/S was also a reboot where even the anime tried to be different since Nintendo realized they couldn't keep adding to the Pokemon which is why they kept the National dex a way to keep them all while still having a normal amount of Pokemon in the game.
The original Pokemon are too iconic, and Pikachu is the face of the franchise, we'll never get a full reboot that has nothing to do with the old. We will get similar reboots to R/S and B/W, hell maybe even a new continuity and full reboot a la Mortal Kombat 9 but the characters are here to stay.

Yeah, both Gen III and Gen V were obvious reboot attempts. They started off with a fresh land, new characters, and all new pokemon. Then they eventually brought back the old stuff.

Again I will repeat - I know this will never happen, but as someone who likes Pokemon and would love to see the series reinvent itself, I'd be excited about the prospect. You don't need to try and explain the reasons Nintendo would never take a risk on Pokemon to me.

Alright, dawgz. We got a buttload of PKMN rumors from 4Chan. You know the deal; grains of salt, blah blah.
Main characters are Jean and Jane; names are non-customizable
Trainer now appears in the bottom screen during battle, with a speech bubble interface holding the trainer commands inside
Trainers now have their own leveling system that affects how in-game NPCs react to you and grants various bonuses such as increasing capture rate and the rarity of Pokémon encountered
A new key item called the Whistle can be used once per battle with differing effects, such as waking up a Pokémon or snapping it out of confusion.
A bond level replaces the happiness meter from past games; higher bond levels grant bonuses such as experience or stat gain for Pokémon
Bond level bonuses and the whistle feature can be turned off in PvP matches for the benefit of competitive play
A new item called the Bond-EYE that resembles a pair of sunglasses allows players to view the nature of wild Pokémon and their capture rate
The Bond-EYE also allows players to see visual avatars of other players and send them messages or trade and battle requests; this feature, akin to the Miiverse function in Nintendo Land, will be the first of its kind on the 3DS
Wireless co-op is now possible, with one player being the leader and the other aiding in battle
Players not able to play cooperatively will be allowed to request aid from NPC trainers in their adventures via a juice bar located in every town
The PokéDex resembles a tablet with a 3D display that allows players to view Pokémon models, read full paragraph descriptions of them, hear their cries, view their locations, compare their sizes and weights with others, and read comments made by other trainers around the world about them
Excess money can be stored in banks that grant interest and special gifts upon depositing certain amounts
Using a special wristwatch device, players can travel 30 years into the past which features different characters, younger versions of current characters, different layouts, and different wild Pokémon
The rival faction is Team Gear whose members wear purple bodysuits with black clock hands on them; they mess with events in the past that affect the present
In one part of the game, you must catch a Munchlax in the past to clear the road of a Snorlax in the future, suggesting that past generations of Pokémon will be available from the start
The professor is Professor Bristle and the rival is Ricki, a magazine writer who documents the strange events occurring in the past
The new generation consists of 99 new Pokémon, many of them baby Pokémon and new evolutions of current Pokémon
Sylveon is a Normal Pokémon that evolves based on the new bond level; it is the only new Eeveelution
There will be a total of six legendary Pokémon that include Xerneas (Psychic/Rock) and Yveltal (Ghost/Flying) along with four black and white Pokémon based on card suits: a cobra with a heart-shaped hood and tail, a tiger with diamond patterns, a t-rex with spade-shaped eyes, and a peacock with a club-shaped tail
Most of the brand new Pokémon will be new type combinations such as Fire/Ice and Dark/Electric
The types of the final evolutions of the starter Pokémon will be Grass/Flying, Fire/Psychic, and Water
I like the idea of your dude having his own level, but I definitely do not believe the names will not be customizable. The Bond-Eye sounds like something they would do, what with creating different gizmos (like the XTransceiver...lolz) in the past and whatnot. Time travel would be nuuuts.

All except non-renaming your character sound fine. I wanted more customization, not less!
It almost seems like Black and White was wasted, especially since it was the closest to a reboot we'll get in the next ten years. Gen V got the raw end of the stick, it really should've been re-done to work on 3DS a la Gold/Silver with the GBC, not quite a 3DS game but it had features. The 3DS not selling well probably didn't help it. We've slowly moved to 3D with each Pokemon Gen but it'll still feel weird having a 3D main Pokemon game.
On other news I bought a 3DS XL, and it still has flaws but overall I love it, great purchase I recommend it, also the 3DS has become quite a system with plenty of great games and plenty more on the way. I'm also pretty happy with my Wii U, though I'm kind of glad it's not selling that great because panic mode Nintendo is indeed great, hopefully this pressures them to fix many of all the screw ups they've done in recent years and the Wii U in general.

Phantom Hourglass was bogged down by the terrible dungeon you had to run through over and over again. It was a misstep that ruined the game. Thankfully Spirit Tracks learned from those mistakes and was much much better. However, neither lived up to the incredible legacy of the portable Zelda games. I don't know that anyone was really dying for another one of those.
I absolutely agree, and I fear that the handheld Zelda will never be the same. I hope I'm wrong with the new game. It has the framework to be great.

Nn... not impressed by this last Nintendo Direct. There's absolutely nothing I personally could give a damn about. Okay, maybe A Link to the Past 2 because the original was the last Zelda game I didn't hate, but it's gonna take a lot more than name familiarity to get me to take notice. We'll see.
I was surprised, however, to learn that Super Luigi U is over 80 levels. I expected somewhere closer to 20 when it was first announced.
I'm super hyped for New Leaf and the new Mario & Luigi. I actually was impressed by almost all of it, to be honest. I should put down some preorders soon.

I'd be interested to know exactly what people like you would LIKE to see. I honestly don't know what else Nintendo could announce, outside of weird new IP stuff, that would be enough to impress the people who're still complaining about their output.
Also, they said when it was announced NSLU was going to be a full NSMBU conversion.

The handhelds should always have 2D Zelda, unless they made a new game using the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask style engine, which is what I was somewhat hoping for.
The Mario RPG's have always been great, only Paper Mario Sticker Star was disappointing, but this new Mario and Luigi doesn't look to remove the RPG elements.

I'm definitely looking out for this new Zelda game coming out for the 3DS. I'll also have to go for Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Majora's Mask if that's going to come out for the 3DS. I wonder what new twists they'll add to that one, if any.
I missed out on Earthbound in 1995, but it seemed like a cool game when I read about it in Nintendo Power. Now with all this talk about it here, I might want to take advantage of this for whenever I get a Wii U. I guess I should also look for a player's guide if I get it. There seems to be something a lot nicer about owning the original cartridge however, since it came with a player's guide in that big box.
I've been having a blast with my 3DS, funny how it looked like a system that wouldn't get as much as the original DS and at least first party wise it's getting plenty. I've been playing Super Mario 3D Land and while I've enjoyed the 3D in other games that added depth, SML3D really does make the 3D amazing, I always thought people were overreacting, one of my favorite parts is the Zelda tribute and I'm glad we're getting a full game like that.
I also got a downloadable Star Fox 64 3D thanks to Peanut, but I haven't played it yet. While I love my 3DS XL, it had no battery so I had to play my original 3DS and you know I'm not sure I want to get rid of it anymore, it was nice playing on a smaller screen and it is indeed more portable. If only I could share an account with both systems but you know...nintendo..
Still it was great how Nintendo turned around the 3DS after the miserable launch, I'm guessing they have a similar strategy plan for the Wii U counting how terrible it's doing, they made a ton of mistakes but they can fix it. Counting they reveal so much in the directs I don't expect to see a lot of focus on the 3DS at E3 but I definitely expect them to go all out on the Wii U, and if not I expect them to do it in directs shortly before/after E3, but this is Nintendo who knows but they have it against them in this E3 and they blew it the last TWO E3s.

The amount of major Mario titles on the 3DS already is staggering.
We have a 3D Mario, a 2D Mario, a Mario Kart, two Mario RPG's, a Luigi's Mansion and now a Yoshi's Island game.
And that's not counting the sports/party spinoffs
That's major releases in every Mario category, and they've all been good so far.

Paper Mario was garbage.
So, I have 800 wii points to get rid off, I don't know if I should get Super Mario RPG or maybe another SNES title, the downside is of course I'd eventually have to pay the 1.50 to import it to the Wii U or if I should get a Wiiware title, counting I have to go into the awful wiimode on the Wii U makes me not want to get the Wiiware title, but I always wanted to get Bubble Bobble Plus!, it's the original arcade title and 100 levels more, the title is only 600 points and i can get one of the DLC packs for the othe 200 points.
I've been incredibly hyped for the new Animal Crossing game, I haven't really played Animal Crossing since the Gamecube, I bought the DS game but never played it for more than a few hours, it just didn't interest me as much and the Wii version looked too similar. I think the 3DS game also looks very similar even though most people seem very hyped for all the "changes". But I still feel like playing AC again and might as well play the new version.
Every year always has plenty of Mario titles for Nintendo systems, I don't know why people say Nintendo is whoring out Mario since even though they are this is nothing new, just take a look at all the NES games with Mario. Just because it's called "Tennis" and not Mario Tennis, doesn't mean it didn't have Mario.
Paper Mario was garbage.

It is terrible. Not even comparing it to the other two Paper Mario games (both of which are f*cking incredible) it's a poor game. It's a bad platform/puzzle game with completely pointless RPG battle mechanics. There's absolutely ZERO reason to fight any enemies outside of bosses ever! In an RPG that's probably the absolute worst design flaw imaginable. It turns the game into an hours long game of peek and poke. It's a poorly designed game and probably the most disappointing Nintendo game I've ever played.
I almost bought Paper Mario Sticker Stars because I wanted the promotion of "Donkey Kong: Original Edition" free download when you bought one of certain retail eshop games, but the reviews of the game made me not want it and the other games were ones I wasn't interested in or wanted a physical copy. The fact that it's not the arcade original and it's the inferior NES version with the cement factory level added made me not get it, but I kind of regret it because now that I think about it I do want that "art studio" game they offered to teach me how to draw haha.
I am also one of the few that actually enjoyed Super Paper Mario, I know we're a minority but I think it's a great game if you realize that it's not an RPG and not really a platformer either. The writing is still good.

Super Paper Mario was also fantastic. It had neat mechanics with a fresh take on the series and, like you said, had great writing. It also knew what it was trying to do. Sticker Star doesn't know what it is or what it's trying to do and it fails at absolutely everything it attempts.

I don't think Mario and Luigi has been consistently good at all, to be honest. Superstar Saga was fantastic, but Partners in Time wasn't all that hot. Partner's in Time was definitely the weakest, but I absolutely loved Bowsers Inside Story. They tried to experiment with the RPG setting by doing different things like Sticker Star, except they actually succeeded.

So, remember the R.O.B. accessory for the NES? I was at the Nintendo World store earlier today, and some woman I met there was talking to told me about how some guy tried to take it to Best Buy to get recycled since they've got this recycling program where you can recycle old electronics. The guy also happened to have the box with it and everything, and it was in pretty good condition. Instead of taking it off of his hands, they suggested he ought to donate it to some place. I wonder if he ever considered putting it up for sale on eBay. I can't even believe I didn't even ask the woman about that possibility.

Nintendo has basically sabotaged all their own consoles in some way or another since the N64.
N64 = stuck with carts, thus killing third party support and Square/Capcom/Konami went to Sony
Gamecube = lack of online, small discs...couldn't compete against the PS2's DVD player and library. XBox was just saved by Halo
Wii = Underpowered compared to PS3/360, so didn't get any of the big third party games
Wii U = Pretty much stuck in the water between people not knowing its a new system, and the upcoming PS4 and next Xbox coming...making Nintendo stuck behind a generation yet again.

I do miss when Nintendo could manage to be on top, like during the NES and SNES days, but I never doubt their ability to release some of the best games of each generation. I know the Wii U won't be any different. I bought one at launch just as I bought a 3DS at launch, itself going through a long dry spell that seemed to never end. And now I'd consider it an essential device. I'm not expecting the Wii U to end up as strong but I don't think I'll regret owning one when all is said and done. Hell I'd buy one ONLY to play successor to Xenoblade if it came down to it.

Remember when Angel Studios ported RE2 to the N64? Something many people thought wasn't possible. Obviously I'm not saying FF7 could've been done on the N64 the same way as on the PSX but would've been a lot different taking advantage of the strengths of the N64 making that point mute.
I'm also not saying it wasn't the best financial decision Squaresoft made, it obviously was but that doesn't mean they didn't betray them, Square and Nintendo had a very good relationship for Square to totally ignore them and support their handheld competition.
And yet have the biggest war chest in the industry. Go figure.
True. They only sell games, which is good and bad. Microsoft and Sony can pump money to their gaming division from their others but if Nintendo ever needed money they're SOL. But yeah, they've kept profitable even during their worst years, it wasn't until the last few that Nintendo actually lost money. And Nintendo has plenty of money to survive in third place.

Unlike the original Wii whose specs were no greater than the xBox of its previous gen, Wii U actually is about 50% more powerful than current gen. It will be underpowered in comparison to PS4 and "Durango" but most likely at a small enough margin where it should be able to keep up if developers are willing to allow it to do so. Its online applications and miiverse social community are very well implemented and the tablet integration for these tasks as well as off screen gaming is very convenient and fun.
But I agree 100% with you that Nintendo has dropped the ball on product awareness and is having a serious drought problem with regards games, particularily 1st party titles. Its their own intellectual properties that have always been their greatest strength to sell systems, but we're left with only a scattered few actually released to go alongside the delays and new promises.

I'd like to know where exactly you're pulling this "50% more powerful" number from, considering how difficult it is for experts to gauge that sh*t, especially with such a straight forward %.
Developers have consistently said that Wii U is around 50% more powerful than current generation consoles. Specwise, it has twice the RAM of current Gen, a slightly better GPU, and a similair speed 3-core CPU. Apparently it's the integration and chip designs that put it at an advantage. Whether that's true or not who knows. But industry analysis claim the next generation won't be about performance upgrades anyway. They will be more about social integration of gaming along with incorporation of other ways to play such as Kinect or the integration of Vita and touch with PS4.
I'm kind of a dork when it comes to video game news and like to stay up on all that. But it's been known to be wrong before as have I. My own personal opinion is that Wii U will gain some momentum and outsell the new consoles this holiday, but will probably faulter after that. As with last gen, I'll probs buy all 3. I have the Wii U and will snatch the other 2 at launch. I find my Wii U a ton of fun to play and the games all look great in 1080p (a feat ps3 and 360 never bothered with). But I am soooo stoked for PS4 and "Durango!"
From all I've read no one knows just how powerful the Wii U is, from actually worse to better than current consoles. Of course either way still way behind the new consoles but whether the gap is as big or harmful as the original Wii no one knows because it of the way it's structured and it being HD the difference to the casual person might not be as huge. Key word casual. But that's hopeful at best.
Anyway, I actually see the Wii U doing the best this holiday season, this is all based on speculation but I see Nintendo really bringing it to E3 with their big guns and marketing heavily in the holiday season. What will help Nintendo is I'm pretty sure the PS4/Nextbox are going to be expensive, 399 for the basic unit of both consoles is my prediction. Both companies can only subsidize the console so much, that was too much for their original launches when the economy was alright and it's suicide now. Both consoles are also probably not going to have enough noteworthy launch titles. I mean most big third party games are also coming out on PS3/360 which includesaWatchdogs/Assasins Creed IV and COD. Not to mention most people bought their PS3s/360 fairly late in the cycle making them feel their consoles are still relatively new even if they're actually over half a decade old. This is also not mentioning their both coming out at the same time cannibalizing each others sales and not shortages.
E3 will give us a better picture of what to expect for this holiday I mean Nintendo might **** up their third E3 in a row and the consoles might be priced low enough and have compelling software but that's what I think so far.

They'll likely be another Donkey Kong game eventually, but as of now it seems like a filler title. Retro Studios is working on something different for Wii-U so Nintendo may not have any studios working on it.
Otherwise the 3DS would be getting an all-new Donkey Kong platformer instead of a port from 2010.

How does everyone here feel about third party characters in the Smash Bros. Series?
Personally, I don't mind them, but I don't want to see the series get over run with them either. I think three third party characters would be about right, but I could go as high as maybe five.
I would love to see Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog come back in the next Smash Bros. Game. Mega Man needs to be playable as well, preferably Classic. I think Classic Mega Man would fit in the best with all the Nintendo characters.
I think it would be a good stopping point there, with just those three as guest characters, but if it went higher then I would expect to most likely see a Namco-Bandi character. So Pac Man might make it. It would be interesting to see what they could do with him. I think if any other company got a character in, it would probably be Square-Enix.
I think the Square character that would probably fit in the most would be Geno, but if any Square franchise got a rep, I'm thinking it would most likely be a Final Fantasy character. I have no idea which one though.
Like I said though, personally I think three third party characters is about the perfect number for me, but I could go as high as five. How do you guys feel about third party characters in Smash?
All the gaming websites have announced that Nintendo will have no E3 press conference this year, but the games will still be playable.
So I guess games that are not coming this year, we'll see nothing of. (like Smash Bros or the new Zelda, etc)
We will but on Nintendo Directs. E3 has become irrelevant in recent years, that's why it was downsized back in 2007, it was too big and they were getting the same press regardless. People bitched and E3 became a big conference again but it's becoming irrelevant, Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft all have(will) announced their upcoming systems before E3. It's a little sad because we used to get so hyped for E3, but it really is irrelevant and makes sense for the companies to not invest so much money into it, it should after all be a trade show and not a media event.
How does everyone here feel about third party characters in the Smash Bros. Series?
I want third party characters but only ones that make sense. Sonic I want him back because he just makes sense, he was Nintendo's biggest rival, seeing him fight Mario made me hyped as hell, something the generic Olympic Game series almost killed. So much potential there. So yes, i'd love to see Sonic again, I'd prefer his classic design but I can deal with the modern one. Third parties I want to see are iconic icons, especially if they're releated to Nintendo's early life since Smash and nostalgia go hand to hand.
Pac-Man - The VG icon before Mario, he's crossovered with Mario a few times before. I'd love to see classic pacman in it but I'll take the new re-design.
Mega Man - The classic series started on Nintendo systems and for the most part MM has always been more successful on Nintendo hardware. I'd love to see classic MM but I'll take any version.
Black Mage - Well I'd love to see a Square Enix representation, and while a Slime is more iconic, it isn't in the west and you can't really make him a fighting character. Black Mage is more recognizable in the west and is still iconic. He's also crossed over with Mario before.
Bomberman - Hudson has a good relationship with Nintendo and he's one of the few iconic mascots that's still popular today. Also crossed over into the Marioverse with Wario Blast.
Simon Belmont - Not too crazy in having him, because while Castlevania was indeed popular in Nintendo consoles at first it did jump ship and is not recognized anymore just for the sake of Captain N nostalgia. Now Simon Belmont isn't a character I'm really dying to have but if we're going to get a Konami character, I'd rather get him than Snake. Snake I never cared for in brawl since as awesome as he may be he just doesn't have a lot of history with Nintendo systems.
Basically I don't want a lot of third party characters. 3-6 is fine. And I want third party characters that fit in somewhat, not random third party characters like say Klonoa or Rayman, not that there's anything wrong with them.
Peanut

Add a single third-party character in the form of a Mega Man or Pac-Man, but that's it. Snake already didn't make any sense and few third-party characters deserve to be in there at all. Any more than 3 and you start to get a sh*tty PS All-Stars vibe, which nobody wants.

If Smash 4 gets another guest fighter it'll probably be someone from Bandai-Namco, since they're going for the assist. Likely Pac-Man or someone from Tekken. Sonic could possibly be back since Nintendo has that exclusivity deal with Sega now. Other 'n that there are a few I'd like to see, but I wouldn't put any stock in it.
PlayStation All-Star's excuses for guest characters were godawful. The only one that made sense was Heihachi, because his series' console history was born and bred on PlayStations. Too damn many of 'em, too. Out of 24 current characters, 5 of them are guests.
