Halo/Halo 2 is being made into a movie? no way.....I think this is mostly just speculation and rumor... and I don't think its a very good idea.... though it would make a fun sci-fi movie... here's a link were I heard --> IGN Film Force (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/585/585098p1.html)
And Apperantley Ridley Scott is rumored to Direct aswell... which would be cool, considering the cool sci-fi movies he has done before... he did do "Alien" and "Aliens" right? anyways... Video Games to Movies ussually never work out so I don't have much hope for this one... what do you guys think?

Several things. No directors, actors or anything have even come into speculation amongst Bungie. That's another thing, Bungie themselves won't allow any film studio to touch the movie without them being heavily involved. Bungie spent too much time and worked too hard on the franchise for it to be tarnished with a bad movie. They've promised fans several times that if a Halo movie was ever made, it wouldn't contradict what the games are about. I've read on their site several times "If the movie is going to be bad, we'd rather have no movie at all."

With that said, I hope they make this movie, so badly.

I dont think video games should ever be made into movies. Espcially games that are pretty much action games and have little story. Like RE 4, Doom 3 and such. Those games have good stories but its not good enough to be a movie. And it doesnt have to be because it's a action game. Its not like Metal Gear where the game is a movie pretty much. But if a Halo movie was made, espcially with Ridely Scott, I would go see it. As much as I dont like the game I liked the settings and whole Sci-Fi aspect of it was intresting to me.
So we got
Metroid
Halo
Devil May Cry
Probly another Resident Evil...

Any other video game movies being made?

Actually, the story of Halo is far more fleshed out that most game series, due to the books. Which are official according to Bungie. The movie could easily be based off the books, which takes no liberties with the games at all.

As for other VG movies...I'm sure there are a couple others in the works. Soul Caliber I think, as well as DOA.

Any other video game movies being made?
Bloodrayne (Uwe Boll)
Hunter: The Reckoning (Uwe Boll)
Far Cry (Guess who? Uwe Boll!)
Doom (Boll-free, with Karl Urban in the lead.)

If this Halo movies does take off and actually go into production, I doubt it'll be in the theaters before late 2006/early 2007, particularly if they're only just hiring a screenwriter.

Karl Urban's in Doom? That's awesome. As for the other three...why even bother turning crappy games into movies? Even though Far Cry wasn't that bad.

One of the worst directors of all time is turning crappy games into crappy movies. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Now that I would go see.... mind you they could make a little short film version of it for the opening of the movie (like in all those Pixar movies, have a redone 'live action version' of the first couple episodes) ...and yeah if this movie gets made, Bungie better have a big hand in the story/casting/direction... it is their baby... I would love it if they took the storyline from the third book... its basiclly the events inbetween Halo and Halo 2... I think it would make for an interesting movie... or doing the first book... the events surrounding how Master Cheif and the Spartans began... that would be easier budget wise... and it would fill in those people who haven't read the books on why Master Cheif is so cool... and how he grew up...

If they were to follow any of the books I don't think it would be the first, because there isn't any Halo in it. Same with the third. I say they follow the story of the 2nd book/first game. Just for anyone not familiar with the story of Halo....

A race of religious aliens, known as The Covenant, begin a war with human beings because it is "Gods will". At this point in time space travel is common and humans have colonized various planets around the universe. After first contact The Covenant begin to seek out and "glass" all the human colonized planets. Of course they don't know where Earth is, but it's only a matter of time. A group of "Spartans", a group of genetically enhanced, military trained soilders in a special armor, are created to help take down The Covenant, who gain victory after victory over us in space, due to their technical superiority. The Spartans take some major casulties before the events of the first Halo, and only one is left, The Master Chief. While in a battle with The Covenant, the ship on which Master Chief is aboard, The Pillar of Autumn, makes a "random" jump through space and ends up at this weird halo shaped ring the size of a planet. The Covenant are searching this ring for some kind of "weapon". The Pillar of Autumn gets boarded by Covenant troops and eventually everyone on board has to escape in pods towards the surface of Halo. The humans now have to survive on Halo, which is crawling with Covenant soldiers. Things get worse when The Covenant find the "weapon" ,which is a vicious race called The Flood, who feed on sentient beings and take control of their bodies. The Master Cheif, along with his AI Cortana now have one thing left to do, destroy Halo, and along with it The Flood and The Covenant.

I don't know Peanut... I don't think it would make for a very good movie... plus they've already done the storyline in the game... why do it agian? my next guess is that they'll do a sequel to Halo 3... assuming it comes out in the next two years... have a new adventure with Master Cheif and Cortana as they go hunting for the rest of the Halos... assuming they don't get rid of the Halos some how in Halo 3... and assumimg theres a Halo 3.... .... I'm still hoping for like a Halo:Beginings ( ) or a prequel to either Halo or Halo 2... who cares if there aren't Halos in them... but yeah your probably right in the end Peanut... there probably just redo Halo into movie form... which would be cool... but I personally don't like that ideal very much... I think its alittle unoriginal and Bungie could (and might) think of something better...

The thing is you need to start somewhere, and I doubt Bungie would want any kind of "new" story, such as something to do with the events after Halo 2, because then people would need to know about the background of Halo in order to understand a lot of things, and they'll never do that in a movie, unless they did a lot of flash back and information scenes, which would drag it down, also something they wouldn't do. I just think the the orginal Halo is the best for the start of the movies, there are always room for sequals! :D

I would love to see Halflife done into a movie, I could see it done as a trilogy, Since we have Halflife 1 and 2, The 3rd game is currently in the works as we speak, So a Halflife Trilogy of movies would be great since the games have a great story thats filled with lots of scifi action and some horror.

There's no way in hell this will happen, but you never know.

I believe it could work if Bungie is directly involved, and the costumes are ture to the source, and it's based off the books. Otherwise, bleh.

Soul Caliber intrests me because Nintendo is on the production list.....and we all know what/who they contributed to Soul Caliber II. Hmmm........

There's also a Crazy Taki movie coming. Should be some crazy sh*t and that could actually work.

You don't think a Halo movie would work... but you think a crazy Taxi one would? I'm gonna have to disagree... Halo has way more of a background story and character depth then Crazy Taxi... Halo would be harder to do... but it would be worth it... .... in my opinion anyways... Soul Caliber Movie would be cool though... but only if Spawn is in it... and Zelda...

Yeha, there's more development with Sarge in Halo, such as the dark story of his past involving a man who claimed to be his uncle and the use of a garden hose

Mortal Kombat didn't, it had all the characters, a solid story, great fight scenes, and left it open for a better sequel. The animated Street Fighter film didn't, it was just like the game, but with more passion in the story and gave a little humanity to the characters. Also, alot of people liked Resident Evil. So, uh... care to elaborate on that opinion of yours?

Post something constructive, I'm BEGGING you.

Mortal Kombat, as Krow stated, is better written than most video game movies, I also am one of the few people who LIKED Super Mario Bros, given it actually gave a game about two plumbers in a mystical kingdom a Blade Runner setting and a darker storyline, it dealt with Bowser and the Goombas in radically different fashions, but come on, if they kept them in thier game forms, they'd have just looked stupid.

A while ago I read about a very far-fetched rumor that a Metal Gear Solid movie concept was in the works. However, I can't find where I read it or any new news about it.

I think a MGS movie would rock, so much plot in the first game with huge room for character development.

I recall that the actor for Snake was hopefully going to be Hugh Jackman. Although, I would really miss the voice of David Hayter.

---

Also, I'm glad a DMC movie is in the works. I wonder how/if they will handle Daunte's transformation. Anyone know who the actor is?

Everytime I see a new video gaming movie be released by a Hollywood studio, all I see is some pathetic game publisher whoring out their properties in a vain attempt to be accepted by Hollywood, and in effect, by the American populace. Why can't they produce the movies themselves....oh wait, they can't. The MOvie studios own all the theatres.

It's a bad idea. Ever wonder why the only good game to movie conversions were animated in Japan? Because Hollywood's reach can't stretch over the Pacific. The game developers have tighter control over the scripts, and thus there is usually a better result with a few exceptions.

Because Hollywood owns all American theatres, all game anime from Japan has to be released direct to DVD with rare exception. Now, if Sony manages to control all Next-gen DVD production with these Blue Ray DVD's like they please, you can damn well bet they will quietly deny licenses to their rivals and in effect put them out of buisness, or at least split the market so that you have to have two players.

Anyways, VG movies suck in Live Action. I'm done.

03-15-2005, 11:45 PM
Japanese movies can suck, too. Go watch Ringu. It's awful. And while I agree that almost all video game movies suck, American movie companies aren't always money-hungry.
