Man, this game is just sick. I'm a fan of the series, and was VERY let down by DMC2. This game however, surpasses the first installment.
The game's insane complex, with almost RPG-ish upgrades and style boosters. The customizing aspect of this game is superb.
The gameplay is sick, and "special" moves have to be earned to be able to use. In almost every aspect this game has been an improvement from the previous 2. On-the-fly equpiment changes make for insane combos. The AI has been improved a lot as well, with a plethora of baddies to slice/dice/shoot hot lead through.
I can't say much on the story, cause I just bought the game about 2 hours ago. I have a long way to go, especially with how difficult the game is. Just friggin' sweet.
I'm of to study hardcore in order to make more time for this game. I highly recomend it (although since none of you know me, I'm sure my opinion is highly respected yet). Either way- Go Buy It!

I've been watching my roommate play this for a couple days now. Dante has definitely earned a slot on the list of supreme bad asses.

Someone made a topic before me? Well probly because Ive been busy playing! I got it yesterday first thing. I was almost drooling after I saw the intro. Ill have to play more to decide if its the best game in the series yet but so far its better then DMC 2 which is a huge thing I was scared of. They made it hard again which I love! And the buttons are back to normal so is the dodging and combat. It's old school DMC with new graphics and gameplay. What I could have dreamed of. The only thing that I dislike so far is the rough edges and glitches on some of the movies...which is expected I mean it is PS2 here, and I also HIGHLY dislike Dante's voice but maybe it will grow on me. It's still better then his voice in DMC 2

Blame Sony's outsorced R&D on that one rather than Dante. Jaggies must die.
Stop taking stabs at Sony, TMB. It's so damn annoying.
This game looks really damn sweet. I really didn't like the second game, but from the commercial I saw tonight while at class (yeah, TV), I was really impressed. I'll have to pick this game up if I can muster the cash, or I'll rent it.

I dont know if you played CV: Lament Of Innocence but Dante is voiced by the same guy who did Leon in that game....Dante should have been voiced by the guy who does Spike hes way more suited for a sarcastic show off like Dante. The guy they got to do him hardly sounds excited by anything and his yells are so fake sounding. But like it matters its the greatest game I have on my Ps2 already... well 2nd greatest we will see how it weighs up against DMC

Yeah, can't say I'm a big fan of the voice, but this is a prequel, so Dante is younger, so I guess thats why they chose this voice.
What's interesting is that Dante looks pretty young in this one, and older in the next few. He's the son of Sparda (an all-powerful demon, as most should know). The enviornments look fairly modern, so one thing is bugging me:
How old do you think Dante is? If he can age as drasticaly as we see from the change in 3 to DMC, it seems he should be pretty young, aging the same way that "mortals" do.
I know I read way to far into that, but do you see what I'm trying to get at?
P.S. Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thunder Spitfire :)

Strip bars were common in the 80's and 90's lol, Time periods dont matter to much to me. Since most DMC games take place in seculded areas. Like DMC 1 on Mallet Island and DMC 2 in the abandoned City/Ruins. DMC 3 looks less modern compared to those two so it works for me. Sides DMC 1 is kinda old so of course Dante isnt going to look that young. but he still looks pretty young. I say This game takes place about 10 years before DMC 1
Okay, so I managed to scrape up some cash, so I'm going to pick the game up tonight. I'll give my opinion of the game later tonight after playing the crap out of it.
EDIT: My mom's poor. Gonna have to wait.

Good luck getting it I really hope you can get the cash togther. Im kinda poor right now to Im trying to save up for a DS
Okay, so I picked it up today, and I have to say it's as frustrating as an old skool NES game. I think I have to play this crap on Easy mode first, because I SUCK. The ice guardian kicked my ass, and even on Easy, he's pretty difficult. I really need to brush up on my DMC skills.
So far, I think the game is pretty nice. It adds those DMC2 effects without the suck. Dante's voice is pretty gay, but I can deal. The game is way too difficult, from what I can tell, unless it's me.
EDIT: Cerberus. God, I'm stupid.

Really? I have had a little trouble but not to much. Once you beat Cerberus you an put the game on Easy. You will get better. My favorite style is Gun Slinger. I suggest using it when fighting him. The best thing to do against him is just dodge and fire.
I got duel swords right now and i must say their soooo awesomre. Dante's voice is lowly growing on me and becoming less gay the more he pulls off over blown stunts that are so bad ass it makes Neo look like a whimp
Good luck beating the boss. If you ever have to much trouble with something go back and beat other levels to collect up orbs and then buy upgrades. You will also improve your skills and gain EXP on your current style

I am in love with this game now I mean words cant even explain how awesome it just got
Only minor spoilers, just talking about a weapon you get later on
I unlocked Devil Trigger and I can use two swords at once. Which makes for almost endless insane combos that make your style meter go insane
I think this game totally makes up for DMC2, and it blows the first game totally away. They just had so much to work with for this game, and they really touched all the bases needed for a kick ass game that keeps kicking you in the face with insane sh*t.
On mission 7. I'm kind of taking my time and savoring the game for all it's got. I'm so glad I bought this. It was totally worth the money.

I'll personally stop taking stabs at Sony, when you and Peanut get off this "OMG, Nintendo is teh doom3d!" trip. At least our stabs are based on things they've DONE wrong (2 controler ports, no anti-alising, limiting developers, and pushing horrible games), instead of misunderstandings from interview quotes.
DMC1 was pretty fun, but unless a PS2 comes flying outta my rear I won't be playing this new instalment. I'm not spending money on that hardware. Maybe if one of those magical versions of the games you can play on PC's shows up I'll give it a try.

Maybe it's just me but I haven't seen them doing that. All they did was saying that Nintendo was likely to do certain mistakes and that's true.

I would buy a PS2 just to play it. I almost had to since I was afraid mine was going to break. I mean it's like RE 4. You would buy the system just to play it

I agree. I don't know where he's coming up with this stuff. I'd make some kind of rude comment here, but I promised Krang I wouldn't be such an asshole anymore, so I'll leave this one alone.
I don't know if I'd actually buy a PS2 just for this, but...I don't really know. The game is really amazing, though. It actually brought me back to the series. I almost gave up all hope after the travesty that is DMC2.
