View Full Version : Is Raph destined to lose an eye?

I mean think about it. In the Image comics, he's blind in one eye. In the fan fic Mutant Ninja Turtles Gaiden, he loses an eye. In the episode Same as it Never Was, surprise, he loses an eye. And I'm pretty sure in the Archie comics he loses an eye at some point.
Is that really Raphael's future? To be cycloptic?

He just have more badass look with the one eye only. Besides - he looks really good in the eyepatch :)

Well, if you ask me, The whole thing about Raph losing an eye is probably a way to hint at him that he's to rash and careless and takes too many stupid risks. I'm sure that after he loses his eye, he becomes more cautious and careful afterwards.
To me, a Raph with one eye kinda symbolizes the turning point for Raph. The point when he finally gains self-control and is able to focus at the task at hand without taking unnecessary risks. Kinda like a form of enlightenment.

Well it wasn't a risk that cost him an eye in the Archie series, it was a missle from Armaggon.

1. Don't count fanfiction
2. Don't count volumes not in continuity

Raph could be like Snake Plisken from Escape from New York. Heh, heh, heh. Both great, badass characters.
Instead of:
"Call me Snake."
"The name is Plisken!"
It could be:
"Call me Raph."
"The name's RAPHAEL!"
And I could definately see both these guys screwing with authority like Snake does at the end of both Escape movies. Nice patch there, Raphie boy.

That would actually be kinda funny. They could make a tribute to Snake Plissken. Would the eyepatch be on his left eye?

I never knew he lost an eye in any of the comics. But I havent read more then one of each. Not even sure if I have read more then one, heh. How does he lose it?

Well, in the Image comics he get's half his face mangled in an explosion, and is blind in his left eye. And in the Archie comics, it's a future version of him, who lost it when he and the others were attacked by Armaggon. And as for the fan comic MNT Gaiden, he lost it shielding Mikey from a possesed Leo's attack.

I believe that might actually be meant as a quasi-religious metaphor since the left side of the body is considered to be evil (I won't get into the whole biblical stuff since it's not permitted here) meaning the eye being gouged out or scarred was a symbolic cleansing of Raph's spirit.

Well, Mirage DID publish some short stories set on the distant future where an older Raphael is seen with his left eye missing (one in the Michaelangelo micro-series' back-up story, another in the RPG supplement After the bomb, plus the Talbot pin-up), and those are canon. All the other variations reflects this future of the Mirage Raph.

Heh, "quasi-religious metaphor" - wonderful - it's strange I didn't come up first with a theory like that - I'm aging :ohwell:
Also in Greek mythology left side of human body (especially left hand) is considered evil and dishonest.

Yep, Snake Plissken has his eyepatch on the left eye. Although the left eye isn't gone or sliced out or soemthing. It is still there, it is just oversensitive to light, so it is basically useless. And because Snake doesn't want his eye to be in really big pain all the time (his eye gives him constant pain, "like orange fire") he wears an eyepatch.
And tributes to Snake are always a good thing. :D

:o Amazing....Raph's eye can open up the hearts of so many
But seriously...
Yes. I'm sure Raph in the future is destind to loose an eye. I hate the idea, but he becomes much more older and wiser with it. He plans things abit more carefully. Who knows? Last time it was his eye, next time it could be his life. It's a real eye opener for him and makes him grow up alot ;)
wow I never noticed that. I guess he is destined to lose an eye.

Punny Ra...puny....but yeah, Raphie does seem to be less rash, maybe that does a good thing. Seems weird that from what I hear Leo's injury makes him more rash....*shrugs* Those boys....

Not in the movies. Not in Mirage...so far...but he's a real freak now. I've said it many times, the Mirage Raph in the future with no left eye, I read YEARRRSSS ago was a "what if" not an absolute. but who knows....
in the new toon, Raph still may not loose his eye, that SAINW future won't exist now. I've chilled about the gone eye thing, but I still like my Raph with both optical receptors in full functioning order.

Buslady, take it from the expert: An optical system works perfectly fine, when only one eye is intact. Trust me on this one.

And also, 'sinister' is Latin for left-handed.
