I don't even think I need to explain myself on this one. I think you know what I picked. And I'll be watching this thread closely in case of a flame war...and I'll keep my mouth shut, too.

And just to add something. Anyone can say something is overrated, just because their opinion doesn't match the general crowd's, so that title doesn't seem appropriate. I'm going to change it.

no reason to explain? Why do you love it?

I've already explained it somewhere else. Don't feel the need to do it again.

IMO, Final Fantasy 7 was the worst Final Fatnasy game I ever played. It's cool with me if others like it though, aslong as you've atleast played it. (Not one of those fanboys that likes it just because you are suppoused to. you know the type.)

I'm playing it right now and I think it's amazing how touching the story still is even though the graphics are so outdated.

I hate RPGs, and I still liked FF7 better than 8 or 9.

09-17-2005, 11:43 PM
I guess I will explain again. I'm actually playing it now, too.

The game starts off a little slow. I don't really like the beginning, but it's a good foundation and it really starts to pick up after about two hours of gameplay. The story gets really complicated and deep as the game progresses. I'm a man that enjoys a good story. RPG's is the place to find them. I agree with Barkworm and truly believe the story is touching and meaningful. I sort of felt the game was incomplete at the end of the game, but the movie totally patched that up and brought closure to the story.

The characters are so lovable and you really get attached to them. Their personalities are so varied, that you have this melting pot of a crew with so much energy and emotion that it really gets to you, and you can't help but feel attached.

The music is a true masterpiece. Nobuo Uematsu's work never fails to amaze me, and this game is no exception. One-Winged Angel? Classic. It's up there as being one of the best final boss battle themes ever. Aeris' theme is a really sad song to listen to, but I love it, anyway.

Graphics? Um...heh. Well, we know what they're all about, but graphics have never really concerned me when it comes to RPG's. I'm in it for things other than the graphics. Though I believe if the graphics are good, then that's a plus.

So overall, I find this game to be Squaresoft's second masterpiece of a game. There was Chrono Trigger, then Final Fantasy VII, then Xenogears shortly after. So there you go. That's why I love Final Fantasy VII.

Fantastic Game.

My old band and I decided to call ourselves the Knights of the Round.

That kind of shows how much I liked it.

Though I think I'm one of the few people in this world that liked 5 as well.

I'm not really an RPG person. I play games for the gameplay, not the story and traditional RPG's tend to bore me after a little while. With that being said, I do enjoy an RPG every now and then, and having played so little of this game, Ai has convinced me to go out and buy it. We shall see.

Barkworm

Honestly, I don't think you'll like it. The gameplay is actually pretty good, the materia system is one of the best skill systems in the series but overall there's a HEAVY focus on the story.

TMB also had a hand in it! They have beaten me into submission!

You may not like it... Give it a shot though.

I honestly never liked the Materia system. I prefered the Espers From 6.

Although FFVI is probably my favourite FF game, I always thought the Esper system was a little too simple. The Materia system added more depth IMO.

I love this game. I don't care what the 'general crowd' or whatever say. It has such an epic story with so much else going for it I can't see what's not to like :D

I don't like RPGs in general, the whole "I whack you once, you whack me once"-thing gets on my nerves to no end. No fight is like that... I mean, where's the fun in that, you don't need reflexes, you don't control the character's movements, you just tell thme what they have to do and they'll do it.

For that reason, I don't like FFVII (although I love Advent Children) and I don't like the hype around the FF-series as a whole.

I didn't play 7 much but I always get the feeling it'll be like Ocarina of Time in the Zelda series. A good game but extremely overrated. Right now I'm finishing up FF2(4) on my SNES, really good game.

and I don't like the hype around the FF-series as a whole.

Well, some of us don't play it because of the "hype". I played the original when it was released, and I've been hooked since.

09-19-2005, 12:56 PM
I don't play it for the hype, either. I've been playing the series since the original, as well. I've bought every game the day they came out, with the exception of FFXI and Crystal Chronicles...but hey, those games weren't any good, anyway.

EDIT: Which reminds me that I should play through the original again. Time to break out the NES and Nintendo Power guide!

I got my import copy of this movie today. Just felt like sharing.

It's awesome. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/TheFatedBattle/2005_0926Stuff0004.jpg)

Yeah, I'll be importing that too. It's too damn good.

I hope it gets a better boxart around here...

ThirdMarioBro
09-26-2005, 11:49 PM
For something that good you think they'd blow it out of proportion and do something radical for the boxart. The movie can deliver anything that any boxart promises (unlike most movies).

I don't like RPGs in general, the whole "I whack you once, you whack me once"-thing gets on my nerves to no end.

Also, later FF's don't do that. While you are trying to decide what to do, the fiends can attack you. And vice versa. The strategy comes from HOW you build up your characters. (Which is ultimatley why I like FFX2, the customization of the characters is very broad.)

Barkworm
09-26-2005, 11:53 PM
That's true although FFX2 is so incredibly easy that it doesn't really matter. :ohwell:

GK Punk

Yeah, but I had fun playing it. Still do.

I didn't really care too much for the stories in X and X-2. The Sphere Grid system was pretty cool and original (I just finished beating it again), and the entire costume thing in X-2 was...meh. It kind of reminded me of FFV (or whatever it's called in the US), where you got to customize the classes for each and every charachter. Auron was pretty badass, though. And "Otherworld" is one of my favorite songs from any of the FF games.

I loved FF7 though. Then, after that (in terms of RPGs), probably comes Legend of Dragoon (I'm the only one).

Sure, me too. We're probably the only two people here who would admit that.
Well I guess I make three because I enjoyed playing through X2. Just because it wasn't a typical FF game didn't mean it was bad. I went into the game with an open mind and definitely had fun with it.

I also loved to see what happened to the characters after the events of FFX (Wakka and Lulu having a baby etc.).
