View Full Version : Eddie Guerrero passes away

This was just brought to my attention. Unfortunately, when I read "Did you hear about Eddie G" I pretty much had a feeling that something bad had happened.

"WWE is deeply saddened by the news that Eddie Guerrero has passed away. He was found dead this morning in his hotel room in Minneapolis. Eddie is survived by his wife Vickie and his two daughters."

That's all that's on the officail WWE site. I guess more will be revealed later.

As someone who is obviously a huge Eddie mark, I find this jaw dropping and shocking. His theme song is my main ringtone.

I'm in such shock, I refuse to believe it.

Yet I know it's true.

This is just...sickening. After beating his demons, winning the biggest symbol of drug addiction defiance (the WWE Championship), Eddie dies the way noone wanted him to back when he had his problems, alone in a hotel room.

Eddie was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, one of the true innvoators, and the first hispanic wrestler to become world champion in an american promotion. He set the standard for main eventers of his kind, and he could never truly stay heel for long, when he was heel, he made you beleive it.

I always criticised his feud with Rey Mysterio (primarily because I despise Mysterio), but in all fairness, that feud reinvigorated much of SMACKDOWN for me, and I now prefer it over RAW, now nothing more than a dumping ground for the Mcmahons and jobber fodder for the prick holding the championship presently. F*ck you Cena, f*ck you bookers, instead of slapping the belts on three move wonders, why not take advantage of something and someone who deserves it before its' too late?

I despise the way WWE works sometimes, but Eddie bounced back from the pressure of main eventing in 2004, and came right back, he will always be remembered as someone who cheated death, and stole not only life, but also the notion of underestimation. The guy is a living breathing example of when not to lower your expectations, for he may very well surpass them from his previous track record.

And he did that in spades.

That avatar has always been one of my favorite pics of Eddie.

WWE.com will have a press conference from Vince and Chavo Jr at somepoint today. The WWE tapings from tonight will be Eddie Guerrero tribute shows. (For tomorrow's RAW and Friday's SD)

I hadn't been watching WWE lately but I was getting updates on what's been going on and stuff from my contacts in the WWE.

Man..what a thing to wake up to this morning. With a message from a friend of mine in the WWE that Eddie had passed away. :(

Eddie was a nice guy...he loved his family more than anything. I only wish I had met him.

I just wish that all of this was some big horrible joke.

Batista:"Eddie...if you were alive...i would give you this championship..I miss you buddy..."

*Cell phone rings*

Eddie:"Dead?!...I LIIIIIIIIIIIED!!"

I swear...it just all feels like some horrible dream

GK Punk
11-14-2005, 02:18 AM
God I wish it was a bad dream. My mother called today saying she heard on the news a WWE guy died, wanting to know who it was. I told her it was Eddie and she was really upset by it. She remembered watching him in WCW and WWF when I was younger and She always loved him. So we talked about Eddie for awhile.

I'm making myself a new ringtone out of Eddie's themes. I'm combining the Cell phone ring "Can you feel the heat?" Intro with the Original Lie, Cheat and Steal theme. I was using the rap song, his last new theme but I kind of want to use Lie Cheat and Steal.

The Stryker
11-14-2005, 02:25 AM
Lie Cheat and Steal is the better song for Eddie's send-off. My mother loved Eddie too. But only because of his Heel run against Rey. When i told her she said "My Papi's dead?" Man...Eddie brought my family together for Smackdown.

I am so glad he went out as a face...I don't know if im gonna be able to watch Raw tomorrow.

Even though the main event is Orton Vs. Cena and Mysterio Vs. Michaels is also on the card...OMG...What if Benoit wins the title and then points up and dedicates the title run to Eddie?

Im sorry but i would break down. Eddie was just one of a kind.

Sounds good to me man! i like the combination of Eddie's 9th and 10th theme.

anyone else see a bit of a bright side in this tragedy?

Eddie went out on top, Not as a retired ex-wrestler, Not as a lower mid-card jobber.

His last Televised match personified why everyone loved Eddie (Cheating,The Lowrider and the charisma)

I only wish he would've lived to Survivor Series..atleast a TASTE of Michaels/Guerrero would've been oh so sweet.

Sadly, a match we'll never see now.

GK Punk
11-14-2005, 03:23 AM
Yeah, I've decided to wait on getting SVR2k6 now. I definetley want it, since it may be the last game with Eddie in it but I just think it may be kind of hard to play. The man was a hero to me. It was like hearing Superman died.

Hehe, I used to want one of those shirts so bad when I was a teenager. (the Eddie Guerrero is my favorite wrestler shirt) No place around me carried it though. I almost bought the lWo shirt, and I still wish I did.

The Stryker
11-14-2005, 03:27 AM
Seriously man...i tried playing it just now to get Eddie the WWE belt and i had to do a storyline where i had to fight Taker in a buried alive match.

.....oh god...i just turned off the PS2 real quick

I doubt it'll be Eddie's last game...hopefully he'll be added to the legends roster for SVR07

GK Punk
11-14-2005, 03:35 AM
Honestly, I really hope he is. I'd like to see them put different Era's of Eddie in the games. One old school WCW Eddie when he wore the full singlet (when he came to the ring to a rock song called "Bad Man") Maybe the "LWO" Era Eddie, of course "Latino Heat" 2000-2001 Eddie. I know they can't all do that in one game, but over the course of a few years, I think they can and will.

I still can't believe I'll never be able to get my WWE title signed by him. It was a mark-ish dream I had. I often thought about how cool it would be to meet him at a signing and get my belt signed by him, and take a pic with him. and I don't even collect autographs.

The Stryker
11-14-2005, 03:38 AM
Im glad i was lucky enough to have met him.

He gave me free tickets to Survivor Series (I forget which year but it was the one where he and Chavo won the tag titles)
I worked at these Indy feds setting up the ring and such and he was the only one that ever talked to me backstage.

I remember the day he called me a "Freak" because i knew so much about his career and such.....*sigh*

Chris Jericho
I am devastated by the news of Eddy's passing and I am so sad...

I've lost alot of friends over the years but this one hurts the most by far.

I had the pleasure of meeting Eddy in Mexico City almost 14 years ago and we've been close ever since (although it didn't start that way!) He is one of my favorite people that I've ever met in the wrestling business, as well one of the greatest performers I've ever seen and had the pleasure to work with. One of my favorite times in my career was when Eddy and I were an underutilized, underpushed, hell, almost non-exisitant tagteam, that were thrown together randomly in WCW. But there was a chemistry there that existed becuase we had mutual respect for each other and we both loved what we were doing. One of my most cherished matches was myself and Eddy vs Chris and Dean in Knoxville, on a benefit show for our dear friend Brian Hildebrand. All four of us started the same way and had the same love and respect for the business, for Brian and for each other...it was a magical night. My best match of 1997 was against Ed at Fall Brawl that year. He was as talented as they come and a true class act.

He was also so humble and a true family man and most importantly a warrior for God. He taught me so much about wrestling and about being a man and it is an honor to call him a true brother and friend.

I have so many classic Eddy stories that I would love to share, but instead I'm just going to go and cry myself to sleep remembering what an awesome human being Eddy was and will always be...

May God bless your family and your soul and may he keep you safe forever putillo falso....I love you my brother...

Love your chapete

Eddie's body is scheduled to be returned to his home in Phoenix, AR, by private jet tomorrow following an autopsy in Minneapolis. Funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday in Scottsdale. For those who aren't yet aware, ESPN is having a major situation. Colin Cowherd made some horrible comments about Eddie Guerrero that can be found at www.wrestlingexposed.com. He's quoted as saying that Eddie's death isn't newsworthy, and that all wrestlers are steroid users and such, and then went on to make speculation on Eddie's death. My friend Nathan found and posted the number for ESPN at the wrestling exposed forum, and ESPN has gotten thousands upon thousands of phone calls already (all today!). The goal is to get this Colin Cowherd guy fired. You can call ESPN at 860-766-2000. Just tell the customer service operator that yer calling in regards to Colin Cowherd, and you'll be forwarded to the phone number they had to set up to take the massive amounts of calls. You'll be told to press 5 to comment on Eddie Guerrero, and you can then leave your thoughts.

Also, there's a petition that is literally growing BY THE SECOND to fire this guy. 2 Minutes ago, the petetion was at 1960 signatures, and is now at 2004. Sign it here http://www.petitiononline.com/firecc/petition.html. Pass it on.

Oh and as for the petition; it's gotten about 2000 signatures in less than a day.

I couldn't believe it when I heard this news yesterday- I was totally in shock. I've been a wrestling fan for years and Eddie Guerrero was one of the few all around great wrestlers left in the WWE and one of my favorites. Not only was he an excellent in-ring wrestler, but also a great performer in general. With the quality of WWE having gone down in the past few years, there were only a few wrestlers left who made the shows (especially SmackDown) worth watching for me, including Guerrero, Benoit, Angle, and Jericho (until he left). Eddie was just such a fun guy, it's hard to believe we won't see him again...

After hearing the guy's comments. Yes on the one hand he has a good point. WWE isn't really a sport...it's soap opera for guys. However the moves and such are REAL...they DO get hurt. They have athletic moves.

However his argument was where his obit should be. Really...it depends on the newspaper...if they wanna put him in the sports section or entertainment section then so be it. Doesn't really matter.

But still...the reporter is an arse and will no doubt be fired. He didn't know jack about Eddie Guerrero. He doesn't realize how big Eddie was and how he effected so many lives. He was a hero to many for how he got back on his feet after drugs and alcahol nearly destroyed his career and family.

It's bad enough when you hear of a familiar wrestler that has been retired or off of TV for a long time suddenly passing away, but for this to happen to Eddie Guerrero, who had just appeared last Friday on Smackdown and had a good chance of another title run soon, is very tragic and shocking. No matter what storyline Eddie was put in, he always knew how to entertain everyone, whether making people laugh with his "lying, cheating, and stealing" gimmick or giving a convincing performance in a heel role. I would look forward to his matches each Smackdown since he was always fun to watch, both in the ring and in backstage segments. He was one of my favorite wrestlers by far, and the WWE (and all of wrestling for that matter) won't be the same without him. :(

And as for that ESPN idiot, he deserves to be fired.

I have a request: don't ask for that jabroni to be fired. The better solution would be to have him keep spouting his mouth off when all the while giving him the small thought in the back of his mind, as well as the back of everyone else's, that he made a major fool out of himself and it tarnished his already ridiculous career. Let his mistake hang over his head like the sword of Damicles in the hopes that maybe, just maybe, he won't do it again.

Professional wrestling is a sport. Here's why: the wrestlers are athletes. They train, put on uniforms, put on a show in front of a camera and a ticket-paying audience, go shower up in a locker room, get dressed, and get back on the bus/plane and head for the next town. They're no different than those of the NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB. The only difference is that they make it entertaining with the acting and the flashy displays.

Those guys are the best people in the world to meet. They're not in the news for debauchery like having sex with minors or gambling or punching out fans and cameramen. You'd have better luck getting an autograph from Triple H than you would from Barry Bonds. BTW, have you ever seen Kobe Bryant shake hands with a soldier in Iraq? NO.

Oh, and may I add they DON'T wear padding nor helmets? THANK YOU.

The preliminary results of Eddie Guerrero's autopsy have been released to the public. As expected, Eddie died of heart failure. The coroners noted that his heart showed signs of heart disease. As well, Eddie's arteries and veins were constricted and had narrowed and thinned considerably. His widow noted in a statement on WWE.com that Eddie had been complaining of fatigue all last week, but dismissed it as being road-weary. In light of the autopsy results, Eddie's fatigue was actually the result of the vessels' constriction.

We must stress now that Eddie had just celebrated his fourth year of sobriety last Thursday, and did not fall victim to temptaion or accidentally overdose, as some individuals in the mainstream media may have suggested. However, his heart disease, vessel atrophy, and heart failure did result in part from his past years of abuse. Not sure what comfort this may be, but it has been suggested that Eddie's heart attack was quite sudden, and he would have basically "fallen asleep", meaning that he would have felt next to no pain at all. :o

This is such a shock...and what a shame, too. :(

Eddie Guerrero was one of the wrestlers I really enjoyed watching in the ring. He had so much Charisma...and his facial expressions were great.

I just recently came back to being a wrestling fan after a long hiatus. I really wish I could have seen more of him. I would have loved to go see a live event with Eddie Guerrero.

Now I've got to find a way to get my furry paws on a "I'm your Papi" T-shirt.

I would have loved to go see a live event with Eddie Guerrero.

The last event I went to, was a double RAW/SmackDown taping. Through the night me and my friends kept talking about who would get the best crowd reaction. Cena, Underataker, H, Orton?

I told them not to count on it, as soon as Eddie Guerrero comes out the place was going to explode.

Sure enough, as soon as they set up the smackdown stage EVERYONE IN THE VENUE started chanting "WE WANT EDDIE! WE WANT EDDIE!"

Later during the show, the side I was sitting on we could see the lowrider being brought from backstage and Eddie sitting in it getting ready to drive it out after the "Commercial". (Even though SD wasn't going to be aired untill Thursday, they still put the Commercial breaks in)

After a few minutes Booker T's music started the crowd went nuts for Booker untill

VIVA LA RAZZA!

The crowd literally EXPLODED. You couldn't even hear Eddie's music after that opening. He drove the lowrider out and danced in it for a minute then danced in the ring. THe crowd turned on Booker T. Eddie ended up winning, and he Danced in the ring for the duration of his theme. (Booker T came back afterwards and turned heel on him, but that wasn't aired on TV)

It was so amazing to see him wrestle live.

Even as a non-wrestling fan I'm glad to hear that Eddie died not of an overdose like a lot of people claimed....sad that it was heart diesese...it kills too soon. It took Gurerrero and eariler took Mitch Hedberg. This might be a good time for people to look into their own heart health, sad, but at least Eddie is doing good even in death.
