Yay!
I'm a big MGS fan! I can't wait for this!
This game IS the reason I am getting a PS3!

Storyline-wise, I think I heard something about Snake losing control of his clone dna and he starts to decompose or somethin' because hes getting old, but the biggest clue to the story is the subtitle "GotP". Patriots, an old government organization or something.
I think the only confirmed characters are Snake and Otacon.
but I heard rumors about some returning characters including, Ocelot, Vamp, and Meryl.

Oh well, I'm not exactly the info-seeker, but I'm sure theres a lot more that is known.
but, anyway, lets hear what everyone thinks.

Ocelot, Meryl, & Vamp are definatly confirmed...

unfortunately so is Raiden & Olga's child...

also, a character who is rumored to be the revived "Big Boss"
is also confirmed....

maybe this will be the MGS sequel everyones been waiting for...

I can't take the cut-scenes in MGS. Imagine what they're going to do with all the room on a Blu Ray disc...It'll probably take them 6 months just to records the voiceovers.

Probably Rent it but there needs to be less cut-scenes it takes more time to watch them than play the damn thing! :P

I cant wait for this game! I just about watch that trailer every week, its so good, the best looking game on the new gen systems.

Unlike most americans I like Raiden, and Kojima said that those that didnt like him will come to love him in the new game.

The new metal gears sound like there going to be extremly hard to take down.

Cant wait.

I've always thought one of MGS' strong point was how cinematic it is. So I certainly don't mind the cutscenes.

^ Same here. They actually contribute well, to the story, and it separates this game from the rest, because the details are so in-depth, you would think the developers put their life into this game.

I actually liked Raiden. I can't figure out why people didn't. The only thing I didn't like about the guy was that he actually had a love. But come on, you can't deny that the MGS2 game was pretty f*ckin' boss, even if Raiden WAS the main character. The way they brought Solid Snake... errr... "Iroqois Pliskin" into the story was genius. And the whole "glitch" idea, that sh*t was SO confusing.

dont get me started,
i can go on forever about how dissapointed i was in MGS2,
but its ok, maybe Snake and Meryl will remember old times in MGS4
by talking about all the kinky nights they shared after "Twin Snakes"...

er...yeah thats kind of wrong....

Back on topic here, with word that big boss might be in the game, I'm thinking its more along the lines of how they did it in MGS where they just mention him but you never see him, I'm wondering how they'll close up those loose end and like always I wonder what new questions will come up?

I understand how some poeple don't want long cutscnes but how Kojima did it was really good. Unline xeonsaga long movies metal gear solid series had a good way tos how it and it was really good.

I love em all and it's hard to say no to any of them.

I cant' wait for the new one..

I've been a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise ever since I was pleasantly surprised with the first installment oh so long ago. The cutscenes are an integral part of why I enjoy the games: the franchise is much more than just a series of gameplay challenges, they're immersive experiences...In that regard, I tend to look at these games more as a combination of a movie and a game, and a perfect one at that.

And MGS 4? There is little doubt it will be the PlayStation 3's killer app, along with other noteworthy titles like Warhawk and some first-person shooter I can't remember the name of. :-?

So now that the offical trailer is out we have some new questions that have come up, first whoes grave is that? Raidens, Big Boss or what? And why is Raiden in a cyborg Ninja looking suit?

I was reading about vamp a while back and caught somthing interesting, every time he came back to life water was involed....I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Does any one else think snake will kill him self at the end, personally I think so just because Kojima dosent want to make any more MGS games.

Even if that does happen we can awlays have games that are non canon.

The first time he's killed it has nothing to do with water, he gets shot in the head in the room where you "fight" Fortune, no water to be seen.

In the trailer (I've only seen the short version once), is it a baby Raiden's holding? Cause if it's set 6 years after Big Shell then won't the kid be like 7 or 8 years old?:-?

I didn't see a baby in the trailer but he was holding one in one of the artwork pictures.

It looks like every other alien FPS out there, wether you'd like to admit it or not. Completely un-original looking. From the creature designs to the overall story feel. Another try by Sony to dethrone Halo from the console FPS throne, most likely to fail on delievery, much as Killzone did.

I dunno how the hell I'm gonna afford a system....but hopefully I can at leats put off buying one long enough for the price to go down. I know MGS isn;t a launch title or anything, it's supposed to come out in "2007" which, as you may or may not know, spans the course of 12 months.

I have the money for two PS3's and an HDTV to boot, but I refuse to buy it. Besides the completely sh*t launch line-up, there isn't a single game on that console with the exception of Assasins Creed that intrests me, and it'll end up on 360 anyways. Besides that fact, you've got Sony execs coming out and saying everyone is a sucker and they'll buy a PS3 no matter what. Sony is arrogant and it seems completely ignorant at the same time. I hope the company loses BILLIONS on the PS3. Just look at this quote.

"We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games," - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves

But you all know there is quite a bit of truth to this... I personally know of 3 people who are VERY casual gamers who've already told me they will be buying it opening day. And these are not people with money to be throwing around like this. Im sure a few you know some people like that as well (including some of yourselves) who'll be doing the same. Like it or not, Sony has a MASSIVE base of loyal gamers who will sell out this system when it arrives.

Yes, I know it's true. There are a ton of people like that. That's not the point. The point is that Sony is saying "We have consumer whores and these stupid people will buy our product no matter what." Which is an asshole thing to say.

You know who I really hate? Besides Ken Kutaragi that is? Phil Harrison. In a recent interview with a German news mag he said that it is silly to accuse Sony of plagiarism because of their tilt sensor controller. According to him Sony could have accused Nintendo of the same thing when they introduced 3D graphics in games but, generous as they are, they didn't.

Harrison denies Wii influenced PS3 controller, says PCs unnecessary

Sony exec says accusations of next-gen copycatting are "stupid," says the console will render traditional PCs moot in the home.
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot
Posted May 31, 2006 5:45 pm PT

When Sony revealed the PlayStation 3 controller would be able to sense certain types of motion, skeptics scoffed. That's because Nintendo announced last September that its recently rechristened Wii console would also have motion-sensing controls, leading many to believe that Sony had added the functionality at the last minute as a gimmick. A report in the New York Times didn't help, as it said that some of Sony's own developers were not given the PS3 controller's tilt-sensitive controller until just weeks prior to its unveiling at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2006 in May.

Now, Sony has come out swinging. In this week's edition of German magazine Der Spiegel, Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, aggressively denied his company appropriated the motion-sensing idea from Nintendo. "In a certain way, I understand why people would say [such things], but it is stupid, if you'll forgive me saying so," said Harrison.

Harrison went on to say that the PS3's motion-sensitive controller had been in the works for some time. "We have already worked on it a long time, and Nintendo almost certainly has done likewise with something similar," he said. "It is perfectly natural for two companies to work on [nearly] identical devices. It's like that with technology." He reiterated that the PlayStation 2's Dual Shock controller is the "de facto-industry standard for video games...We define the standard for the man-machine interface for playing games."

Besides defending the PS3, Harrison took time to evangelize the device, which will launch worldwide this November. In particular, he said the Linux-based operating system on the console's hard drive will have enough processing power and nongaming functionalities to render traditional PCs--most of which use a form of Microsoft's Windows OS--moot in the home. "We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."
