You should have posted this on general discussion. Well the first mod who sees this will probably move it.

best snes emulator. aboslutely no doubt. just for kicks, you can also check out this 'front end' for it, but zsnes suports a full gui system, so its not really needed

some people like snes9x http://www.snes9x.com/ dont ask me why hehe

for nes, i highly recommend NESten
http://tnse.zophar.net/NESten.htm

one of the best out there. it plays all of my roms (i have over 400). unfortunately, the source code was lost, and its no longer being developed. some people recommend FCE Ultra http://fceultra.sourceforge.net/ or nester http://nester.dranalli.com/

roms are for the most part considered illegal. however, do you think nintendo really cares about people downloading nes and snes games from the web? not really.

but anyways, generally speaking, discussion of where to download roms is forbidden since it can constitue warez which could lead to a site getting shut down. so sorry.

(pst...check your pm's :tcool: )

THE best snes emulator is Snes9X. That is if you don't have a slow computer. It has OpenGL support, and none of the other Snes emulator have that. It makes the games look just like in real Snes or even better.
Downside of the Emu is, that it requires a fast PC and if you don't have a good Graphic card, Zsnes is your choice.

roms are for the most part considered illegal.Technically they're legal IF you already own the cartridge itself...which I will admit sounds a bit ludicrous.

For Nes I use Virtuanes. Doesn't have anything special in it, but it works well with my Tv-out.

I normaly use PocketNes on my GBA for NES games, but, in my less than humble opinion JNES is the best PC NES emulator.

nesticle is OOOOLLLLDDDD. hehe. im guessing work on it stopped back in '99? maybe earlier? in its day, yes, it was by far the best. but since then, people have learned from nesticle

and where are you snes9x fanboys?! ITS TIME TO FIGHT!!!!! >=)

and NESten is awesome. you gotta be crazy. roms skip?! ive been using it a couple of years. did you download the updated mappers too?

Zsnes does not have one thing better than Ssnes9x. It has OpenGL, Direct 3D, and even glide support, wich can produce far better graphics. Sound is another thing. Even all current Zsnes users admit, that it's sounds has problems. Good example is Tales of Phantasy.

Don't get me wrong, Zsnes is a great emulator, but not as good as Snes9x. OF course like I said before, Snes9x requires a fast computer to use it's ablilitys. If you have a slower computer, I recommend Zsnes. I used with my old comp, and while it doesn't have those options, it gets the job done very well.

(i love a good argument :) )

well, i have a fast comp, so the speed point is moot in my case. by yeah, zsnes has the speed thing down. i put it on a friends comp, he has like a p2 200, and it ran fast.

anyways, i turned up the graphics options, and played around with it a bit. now all i ask is be honest. i took 3 pictures, from zsnes and snes9x. im not going to tell ya which is which hehe. and yes, i may or may not have mixed around the numbers to throw you off =)

so, honestly, which one looks best? (yes, i encoded in jpg, but used highest quality, each one is about 600k). they are 1024x768, so please set your monitor to this res to see the picture in its fullest.

as for the sound issue, i cant say ive ever had any trouble with sound in zsnes. by tales of phantasy did you mean tales of phatasia? i found it, but the webserver is slow so its going to take 25 mins before i can try it out *edit2 - ok, it runs fine, no sound problems, *shrug**

*edit: as for what i think zsnes has better than snes9x, is compatibility. i claim that zsnes has better :)*

First of all, with Zsnes you can't get a full screen wich looks good. there are always those black borders. And judging from those pictures you didnt use Snes9x with OpenGL. And the filters like 2xSai or Eagle engine makes the game look wrong. But if you want to use them, they are in Snes9x too.

And yes, games have sound problems with Zsnes. Or maybe not excatly problems, but Snes9x has much better sound quality. Read the Zsnes message board sometimes. It got much better in the recent windows versions, but it isn't as good.

Bottom line, Snes9x can do everything that Zsnes can, and more.

yes, one of those is indeed opengl on snes9x. i wont argue on the sound quality, but i can honestly tell no difference. i can, however, see the much better image quality when using zsnes :P

You are still speaking of those graphic filters. Same filters are in Snes9x too. And I just tested and you are right, the OpenGL doesn't look as good in computer screen, but it is much better with Tv-out. It looks just like with original Snes and fills the whole picture. Zsnes can't do that.
