Well, we've got a Top 10 thread stickied here, so I'll just post my very favorite band without stating a list of others I deem worthy of consideration.

My very favorite band is Type O Negative. They have that dark harmony that makes their music seem pleasant although it's hanging on the morbid side of life. When I listen to them, I start to feel better, no matter what my mood is at the time.

Lead singer and bassist Peter Steele is a talented writer and his singing voice fits the style of music perfectly. Kenny Hickey, although not really acclaimed as a great guitarist, adds his lead/rhythym expertise with gusto. Josh Silver, who co-writes some of the songs, plays the piano/keyboard almost to the point of masterfully and compliments that harmonious gothic sound. Lastly, drummer Johnny Kelly was a good replacement for his predecessor Sal Abruscato, as the only thing I can distinguish from the two of them is the fact that Sal used the rapid bass drum beat to the songs whereas Johnny puts more oomph into the snare.

Also, they haven't undergone that heavy exposure that most bands have, and with the exposure they did receive during their existence, they've seemed to keep their underground status (in other words, not being labeled as a "sellout band").

They've stayed under the radar of the general public for almost 15 years and as such remain untainted by the media and society's view of what's hot.
