Yeah, one of those old Rosanne jokes from Tiny Toons. In all seriousness, read this.

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/playstation-3-to-be-fat-and-retarded-166948.php

Apprently the thing is so damned fat, the parts will not fit in the case and it will need to grow about another 25%-30% in size to keep from a meltdown. DO NOT BUY THE LAUNCH UNITS. Yeah, Sony sh*t breaks fast, but this one is going to go really fast.

I'm also hearing rumors that they plan on copying some of Revolution's functionality in some legal way. Nintendo just proved again that they should keep their mouth shut until E3.

*edit*

Apprently there are going to be fewer PS3s on the floor that there were 360's last year, or PSP's the year before that. It's official, E3 belongs to Nintendo.

CHEA!!! Heh, in a topic about the PS3's features, a single statement about Nintendo is probably the best sentence in it. How ironic.

Sony must be extremely convinced of themselves to pull so much sh*t with the PS3.

I find Kotaku hilarious. Anyways, Sony is making a ton of mistakes, but they'll still end up pulling away with the majority of the market again this generation. Playstation has rooted its self in the head of the "casual gamer" as the "best" console, and we all know the saying about stupid people in large groups. The cool guy down the street loves his Playstation because it plays Madden. The anime loving dork in his basement loves it because it plays all his fruity FF games and Japanese RPG's.

Sony has both the complete nerd and the trendy hipster all tied up. They're not going anywhere, no matter how many PS3's are on the E3 floor and no matter how many inches the PS3 puts on its frame.

Either way, this crap is a rumor and very rarely does any of this come true.

Peanut, Nintendo had everyone locked up with the NES, and SNES... then they got arrogant just like Sony is now.

Sega, to a lesser extent, had the 'cool' market with the Genesis.

Kutaragi even suggesting that people would be willing to get a second job to afford a PS3 is insane.

And honestly, most people now think Xbox360 is the 'it' console, at least around here. I think Microsoft has it, as much as I hate that idea.

We're living in a different age now. EVERYONE had an NES or SNES. It was basically that or nothing at that time. You can't compare Nintendo's market lead back in the 80's and 90's to Sony's over the past 9 or so years. It's true that Microsoft and the Xbox really picked up in the last quarter of this gen, and along with the head start they got with the 360, they're a major danger to cause Sony trouble.

I'm not saying I like Sony or the Playstation, but I just don't see the complete domination they had last generation being completely lost as some people think.

I don't think anyone really expects it to be totally lost. I'm thinking more along the lines of what happend with Nintendo's market share after the PS1 bent it over and slapped it. PS3 will still be around, but I doubt it's going to have as much support as PS2 had (looking at developers). Right now developers are all pretty unhappy with how difficult it is to program for, and Sony's keeping them in the dark as to when it's going to launch, or even be fully shown off to the public.

If 360 can start getting more games out for it, I think it stands a hell of a chance to take most of Sony's market share.

Besides the fact that it's one of the most overrated systems of all time, did it really ever give Nintendo a true run for their money? And Genisis wasn't exactly around when the NES was owning the market in the mid to late 80's now, was it? It came out in 89 wasn't it? I don't really remember anything from that time, but I do remember no one really giving a crap about it until around 91 or 92 when they started taking the market lead and Sonic 2 hit.

I guess I shouldn't have said SNES, cause I knew someone would come up with the Genesis thing, but whatever. Nintendo lost the lead for a couple years, basically because Genesis had a head start on SNES. They lost the lead a long time ago against Sony, and still haven't recovered, so I don't see much of a difference in the future.

I never said it was outselling the NES or anything. But I'm sure everyone will agree with me that the Genesis can't be dismissed as nothing. Except for you, of course.

The Genesis was pretty legendary. Was it an SNES? No, but it was still great in it's own right. But the fact remains that Nintendo only lost the lead because they dragged their ass on the SNES for sooooo long in an effort to milk the NES for all it was worth. Sega built those two years building a MASSIVE fanbase, and taking cheap shots at Nintendo's arrogance. They then spent the next dcade steadily killing that fanbase.

Nintndo did the same thing with the 8-bit Game Boy, but there was nobody to contest it and make them get their ass into gear on the GBA. Then Sony came along, and suddenly, WHOOPS, here's the DS and Nintendo running at full gear. I guarntee the DS wouldn't be comming until next year at the earliest if the PSP hadn't shown up.

There, much better. :P And yes, it did (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Console_wars#The_16-bit_era).

Actually, that head start didn't help very much, because the game that caused the Genesis to start to take off in sales, Sonic 1, was released less than two months before the debut of the SNES.

 I was actually checking that out afterwards.

I'm not saying Genesis was a horrible console, I own one and I played it a bunch, but it's looked at on level with SNES and I just don't think that's realistic. I think just the fact that I've never gone back to play my Genesis once, while I've played my SNES ever since I got it when I was a kid, is a sign to me that Genesis wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Still, the point is that Genesis amounts to far more than a dismissal of "nothing".

Although there is a history of the third console being less popular than it's predecessors. Ie. Saturn didn't sell as well as Genesis or Master System, N64 seemed slightly less succesful than SNES or NES ect

The same could happen with Sony, although probably unlikely.

I remember the days with my Nintendoes....I had two regular Nintendoes, the original Gameboy, a SNES, and Nintendo64. I have sold them all including the games. I have a reberished PS2 that I get out once in awhile.
