The Official Technodrome E3 2006 Thread - Game Critics Awards on page 16!

It's that time of year again ladies and losers. Rumours are hitting the fan by the day, bullsh** is everywhere, and the unveiling of the Revolution and PS3 are a mere 16 or so days away. It's time for E3, and your's truly will have the honour of covering new Revolution software for you this year (not sure what games, but I'm on the Revolution team).

Anyway, I'm going to sticky this and maintain it until I leave for the show in the near future. Until then, let's get this thing going with some official Nintendo news from George Harrison....


Nintendo America Executive, George Harrison, dropped some interesting details during an interview featured in the latest Game Informer. These were the main points:

• Revolution price may not be announced at E3.
• Nintendo is against the USD$60 pricing strategy.
• EA apparently has multiple Revolution games to show at E3.
• Third parties are wanted to fulfill genres Nintendo can't.
• Nintendo has had discussions with Rockstar.
• Harrison has not seen any Revolution-DS connectivity, and mentioned the failure of the GCN-GBA connectivity.
• Although the focus this year will be on the Nintendo DS Lite, the Game Boy will return.

Nothing specific was mentioned, but this should give gamers something to chew on until E3 comes around next month.

Rockstar Games on Nintendo......better buy Satan an electric blanket because I feel a cold front comming through. I like that Nintendo is trying to get third parties to "fill genres they can't". So far, it looks like they've learned form almost all of their mistakes.

May 8th (around 7:00PM Pacific Time) - Microsoft Media Briefing (they've got something unbelieveable to announce for the Live Arcade from what I've been told, and there is that rampant rumour of a MMOFPS)

May 9th (9:45 AM) - Nintendo Media Briefing (you and I both know what gernade bombs will be dropped there)

May 10th - E3 Floor Show Day 1 (Public Meets Revolution and PS3 first hand, for the first time. Scratch that, public meets Revolution and PS3 emulators running at 55% for the first time. I wasn't supposed to say that, but you're going to find out anyway. PS3 will only be playable on Emulated supercomputers similar to how 360 was last year on those twin G4Macs. They are only expected to have five units there for 500,000 people because of the cost. It's expected to be playable by appointment only. Expect some major PS3 announcements, but expect to be disapointed when it comes to actually getting hands on reports from people because there are going to be a bunch of pissed off Sony booth visitors this E3. They're going to have some new games for PS2, and maybe some life preservers for the PSP, but honestly, who gives a fu*k? The PS3 announcements will be huuuuge, I guarntee you, but don't expect that many people to actually get to play the thing.

As for how Nintendo is handeling the Revolution demos, I have no clue...yet. The show opens at 7:00 in the morning for media only, then two hours later for general attendees. That gives us two hours to get in, get set up, get situated, visit the important stuff, get in line and then brace ourselves for the thousands that will pour in after us. Those two hours will go quickly. Show attendance is expected to be 40% heavier than last year, and last year was almost unnavigatable. This year is going to be hell because all the big dogs are in full force.

Now, that's my official E3 schuedle. Now, let's talk about some of the rumors flying all over the place.

1. First of all, everyone, everywhere thinks a new rebirth of the Kid Icrus series is in development. Miyamoto joked about it last year, and now Kojima is confirmed to be working with Nintendo on something, and Famitsu is rumored to announce it next week.

2. Mario....who the hell knows, but we've been told it's not quite going to be what we're used to expecting. I don't know how to take that.

3. Metroid Prime 3 is going to be fully playable (YESSSSSSS)

4. Red Steel will be playable, and perhaps that new Katana sword fighting game too.

5. The virtual console will be fully demoed and functional.

6. A New Series from Shigeru Miyamoto will be at the media briefing and perhaps playable (as well as a brief glimpse of a new Pikmin).

7. Sega is severely rumored to have a new NiGHTS for Revolution.

Sonic Rivals looks pretty, but it's by SEGA... I don't think they can pull it off decently.

I'm a bit dissapointed with that Rayman screen, but then again, Ubisoft isn't known for pushing graphic engines very hard. I'll wait till I see MP3 to judge what Wii can pull off.

The editorial was pretty good. Boring though, and it didn't have anything too useful in there. Basicaly "Shaders = good" sums it all up. *yawn*. Still, good to see IGN's trying to set people up to be dissapointed with 'next-gen' graphics.

I think Rayman looks awesome. That series is one of the better platformers outside of of Nintendo, and platforms are basically dead. I'm glad to be getting a new one. Rayman is all about the zany, so none of that stuff mentioned seems overly ridiculous. It'll probably be funny as hell, much like the last 2 Rayman games.

I've honestly never touched a Rayman game, let alone anything from Ubisoft until I nabbed Beyond Good and Evil for $10. I'm sure it'll be pretty fun though, but depending on what other launch games are out there it might be lost in the shuffle.

Rayman is sick, I love the series, I also love all the shooters made by ubisoft, great company other than their lack of pleasing online gamers, charging people for everything release when they say they will be free when the game comes out and just pushing games back because they think itll make money later on in the year, outragous, other than that great company. One thing im looking forward to that was just announced be showcased at E3 is Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The first one was amazing and very addicting.

The conference just finished, and I must say I am TERRIBLY disappointed.

The games were awful. They showed Gran Turismo HD, and the game looked just as good as some random 360 game. The only games that looked decent was Warhawk and that futuristic war game. MGS4 and FFXIII also looked good.

The graphics weren't what I thought they would be. 360's graphics pump out the same thing. I thought the Cell processor was gonna do more. Sure, it runs at 60fps, but where's the graphics? Get a better video card in there for a dollar?

They stole Nintendo Wii's controller capability. You can move the controller, and the game will interact with it according to your movements. Hm...sounds like the Wii to me.

And....it's gonna be $600 for the better hard drive version. 'Nuff said.

Everyone here knows I hate Sony just as much as the next guy if not more, but you can't get around the fact that they deliver good games for their consoles consistantly. $500 is way too much money for any console, rest assuired that I feel that way. However, I HAVE to play MGS4. There's no getting around it. So who knows what I'll have to do to acheive that.

We have to remember that PS3 only has gyro sensors. It's basically like Kirby's Tilt n' Tumble or something. They don't have full 3D movement like the Wii will have. Wii'll (intended) just have to wait and see I suppose. I know one thing, Sony was on very thin ice with me as it was, but this broke it, so **** them!

So far, reports coming out of the conference have been highly negative. I hope Nintendo comes out and makes Sony look like fools with the Wii, then right after Microsoft drops some amazing stuff, including a wicked Halo 3 trailer, just to stick it to Sony.

The PS3 was a huge disappointment, and Sony should have known that when they threw those trailers out there last year. Killzone was a no show, and no surprise, as that trailer is still fresh in people's minds. The actual gameplay would look nothing like it. Sony didn't want to admit it.

I'm not as huge a gamer as some (most?) of yall, but even i find this new very disturbing concerning the ps3. I went the nintendo, genesis, ps, ps2 route (just picked up a Cube for Christmas- not too bad) and was basically positive i would go ps3 for my next gen system. Now im not too sure. GTA and MGS are 2 of my fav series of all time but with GTA possibly jumping ship, I may have to go along with them. Im still not sold on the 360 and am really excited (worried as well) about the Rev so I guess we'll see what happens. Either way, i think its safe to say that exciting times lay ahead...!

The reaction to the 360's price was bad... but $599 for the useable PS3? wtf?

HDTV: $800
Game: $70

After taxes, you're going to be paying a whopping $1,600 for the system, a TV to get the HD benfit from, and one game. And that's just with a 7% sales tax here in Nebraska.

For that cost, I could get a near bleeding edge PC that'll boast better graphics, and be able to do a **** ton more then the PS3 ever will.

But seriously, I don't think we should be too pissed about PS3's little theft. The "new function" doesn't even compare to the Wiimote's 3D motion technique. You can still swing swords, swat tennis balls with a raquet, and swing a fist at someone's face with the Wiimote.

The only thing you can do with the PS3 gyro-thingamabob is move a plane up, down, left, and right. PS3 can't even steal an idea nicely. I still like Sony solely for the MGS, Crash Bandicoot (didn't this franchise expand to other companies now?) and GTA series... but this is just as low as it gets.

In the end, it just further goes to show that Nintendo truly is the innovator in this industry. And if a mindless idiot, who doesn't educate themselves on things like this, thinks that Nintendo stole the controller motion idea from Sony just because the PS3 came out first, I'll pimpslap him to the next century.

All of these are available on other consoles. Much like MGS2 did, I'm sure the next couple Metal Gears will eventually find their way somewhere else. Crash is available on all consoles, and has been for quite some time. And GTA has been available on Xbox for a looong time, Rockstars contract is up with Sony, and Microsoft even made the point of saying a certain popular "crime simulation game" will be exclusive to the 360 this go around. So you never know. All three of those will be available on other consoles at some point in time.

So you never know. All three of those will be available on other consoles at some point in time.

Graphically, the Wii was very underwhelming. But, it looks like a total blast to play. Very nice to see a strap attached to the remote.

Yoshi's Island 2, totally didn't expect that! Would have liked to see some images though.

So, reactions about the Wii itself? I'm disappointed that they mentioned zero about the Virtual Console. Looks like it'll launch with, hopefully, two must buy games. Zelda and Mario. Mario looks awesome, but the little planet type things seems like a weird concept.

I'm also kind of disappointed that the graphics really look like they've made zero improvement. Like I mentioned, apparently they aren't as bad as what we saw, but they don't look overly impressive. The water in Red Steel really hurt my eyes.

I think some of the graphics are a few developers just being lazy. Ubisoft's water's always been pretty underwhelming, at least from what I saw in POP:SoT.

Mario Galaxy looked *really* good.

I've already got a must buy list. there are going to be at least three games at launch for me... Zelda, Mario and Red Steel. Jesus, Red Steel looks like SO much fun. Oh, and Wii Sports, because I know my family'll get into that one.

Excite Truck looked cool, so did that one destruction game, and the Hammer one too.

So I guess there's seven games I'll be buying at launch, with three more Wiimotes (did anyone else catch Miyamoto calling it that? AWESOME!).

Gertsman just played Super Mario Galaxy and he said it's fun and the graphics are sharp. I'm quite excited. Especially when he started mentioning all the insane things about Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.

I'm actually glad Nintendo doesn't have just one standout game for Wii. N64 had Mario 64, Gamecube had Star Wars... They didn't have one for DS, and it actually helped in the long run, having tons of games to break people into the new controll setup.

OK. I found the Super Mario Galaxy demo. I don't know if it's available to non-subscribers right now, but you never know, so try it out. Go to E3 Live on Gamespot, then go down the line-up. Click the video that aired at 2 PM. It's called "Future Battles -See Battlefield 2142, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and more!"
Once on that, scan until the cursor is about where the "next" button is on media player. That's where the SMG demo begins. God, it looks f*cking awesome!

Wow. I know I'm a little late to the discussion, but Yoshi's Island 2 for the DS is the best video game news I've heard in a really long time! Awesome! :o I loved the original and I love the DS, so works for me!

Also, I can't wait for the Wii. Despite the strange name change, I am seriously looking forward to playing this. The PS3 news overall was disappointing, but then, nothing I'd previously heard about it so far was all that interesting to me. Plus the price puts it way out of range anyway, so it'll be awhile before I even think about getting it, even though I enjoyed the PS2.

I'm glad it dosen't. I mean, I would like one to use the Wiimote someday, but I wanted one last traditional one, maxed out, except online. Gamecube couldn't deliver that. Wii can. New controls can come after I get a competitive online version of Smash Bros. God, the wallpapers from this game are going to be GEORGIOUS. Damn.

When we heard this, I was in the press party unviling. My ears were ringing an hour later. They screamed louder than Zelda 2004 x 4. It was killer, but I screamed too. You'll never see any video. There were only a limited number of us too.

All 1st party Wii games are widescreen. All the third parties I saw are widescreen. Fu*k yeah.

Yoshi;s Island. The engine is idential to the original. It uses some original sprites, as well as all new hand drawn artwork. The characters are beautiful as hell. The game plays just like what you remember. EXACTLY. There are new mechanics, but they don't ruin the formula. This is not Yoshis Story. Ths is YOshi;s Island.

Smash Bros is playable, but only to select, and I mean SELECT media only.

Kirby lets you combine and mi power ups by dragging them together and stirring them up on the touch screen to make strange new concauctions. Wondeful mechanic. other than that, it plays exatly like Kirby's Dreamland 3 on speed. TERIFFIC and all handdrawn. Starfox is nowhere near finished, but it will be. it pays homage to the original in the title screen with the original boxart of the characters is rendered (in classic style). Georgious.

Going to bed. More when I can thing. 2 hours of sleep for 3 days. Worth it, I guarntee, but my brain is screwd up. Reading this **** can prove it. I can to run two miles to get that damn Smash Bros movie online in time. We stole shots of Snake early. Miyamoto confirmed that third party characters will be inside. Sonic is pretty much guarnteed now. The world war will be waged.

When I find my Sony stick adapter, you get to see pictures of the Kodak theatre, and some of the most pretty shots I've ver seen. Also, I'll take you inside the Wii booth. Fu*k security.

If that were the case I'm skipping the PS3 all togther. Since every game I want for it except DMC 4 will be on another system. And as much of a DMC fan I am I won't buy a new 600 dollar system for it.

I think they learned with Mario 64 DS not to force new controll methods into games that don't need them.

And Spit, it's Wii. Wii will always be Wii. It's just a name, don't take it too seriously. Nintendo knows that people are making jokes about it, and that's cool. I think that was the point, to teach us 'hardcore' gamers that we're taking this stuff WAY too seriously, and to lighten up.
