Does anyone collect comics other than TMNT? I do! I like Spider-Man! Plus I'm starting up on the all new Ultimates series from Marvel! What does everyone else collect?

Kali

I used to collect Lady Death and Purgatory, but not really anymore.

Heh... yep, I collect the Mirage TMNT comics. I nearly have all the Mirage ones, I have the complete Vol 2 color run that Lawson did too. I also got a good number of the collected books, and the Challenges book, signed by Michael Dooney.

I had collected the Image TMNT comics, until they started getting really weird.

I only have a few of the TMNT Archies though, since there were sooo many.

As far as other comics go, I like Usagi Yojimbo, Xmen, and whatever else catches my fancy.

I also like collecting TMNT movie stuffs: like the comic books, the graphic novel, posters, trading cards, press release photos, and even the movie scripts. I also have some of the movie star figures that were released.

Aside from TMNT, I like collecting model horse figures and unique turtle (real and TMNT) figures. As of late, I've also like the action figures McFarlane does. Sweeet...! I hope to get more figures for Lord of the Rings and Crouching Tiger:Hidden Dragon.

hmm i only collect TMNT and thats about it, everything i earn goes straight to TMNT, computers and bills. I don't have any other money lying around to start collecting two things

Kali

Oy, lack of funds, that's why I had to give up Chaos when I rediscovered TMNT.

HorseTechie

heh.. I just budget my extra spending money on my fandoms evenly. I just buy the absolute best of each area (instead of everything in one area). ;p

Explains why I only have 3 of the four movie turtle figures, 2 of the TNM figures, and 2 of the LotR figues.... *heheh*

Ratking
02-04-2002, 05:14 PM
oh i have lots and lots of TMNT, but i only collect the figures and vids, not games, books, soft toys etc.

I have alot in their packets.

Skeletoncrew

TMNT-wise I've just started buying the Mirage and Image comics. Although I loved them when I was younger, I really didn't have any of the stuff. I've always been very self-concious and was somehow embarrassed about how much I liked them, so I never really bought anything. Now I'm almost 24 and I've finally decided to give in and buy the comics no matter what anyone thinks! If I'm a geek, so be it!

Otherwise, I've always been a collector. I have Kachinas, pottery, jewelry, old coins, gemstones, books, Enchantica, Windstone, crystals, David Bowie stuff (lots of David Bowie stuff), Brian Froud books, and action figures (with a special focus on Army of Darkness figures).

Lets see... i have a bunch of Archies, the three movies, The graphic adaption of the third movie, and, an archie Turtle's digest.

On the non-Tmnt stuff, i have dolphins, dinosaurs, Celtic stuff, and in my extremely free time, i collect bread bag twisties to make sculptures.

No im not insane. It first started as an art project, but i found that it was a good stress releaser, so i kept it up. I have one T-rex and i'm working on a stegosaurus. Well, maybe i am insane :eyemouth:

Ooh! Art projects! Yeah! I love art projects! I was just painting yesterday and was saying to myself, "I should do this more often."

Why do I have the sudden urge to paper mache'? (I can feel the topic slipping...)

But yeah, i've been drawing and other stuff since 4th grade. My roommate has her scanner working (finally! ) so i'm hoping to get some of my srt up soon. Krang said he'd host them for me. Luv ya Krangie! i got one picture of the five guys in some good outfits, called 'Here's to the Guys We Love'. You think Raph likes Camo?

Oh don't I wish! No, I just started young. My parents gave me a generous allowance, then when I hit 16 I got a part time job...its easy to collect stuff when you're living at home. I also ran my own online jewelry business. (Still kinda do.) Now I'm a regular working stiff like everyone else.

*nods* Gotta love the corpoate benefits that make the cash flow so much more sweeter.

Is it a scary thing that I have more of my collectables scattered about my cubicle at work, than I do at home? Heck... prolly cuase don't have any room in my wee little apartment -- thanks to my husband's obsessions with DVDs and books hogging all the shelf space.

I got some LOTR action figures today! The Boromir v. Lurtz two pack! I can't get Boromir to work quite right, but Lurtz rocks! He fires arrows! (Yeah, I know, I'll shoot my eye out!)

Just had to share!

I'm an ecclectic when it comes to action figures. I have some X-files, Jay and Silent Bob, Draco from Dragonheart, all of the McFarlane Army of Darkness ones, and now a few LOTR.

Dude! I loved playing Magic. I stopped several years ago, since I couldn't find any more opponents. I still have two small boxes full of magic cards. Ah, the memories.

I never played Magic, or any of that kind of stuff. The most complicated gome i have ever really played was Monopoly. I lived a sheltered life...

azure turtle

I couldn't resist taking a short study break  The Pizza Power board game?! Sweet mother of pearl! I forgot I had that. It's sitting at home, underneath my bed. I haven't played that game in years. I used to play all the time with my cousins.
*feels a sudden wave of nostalgia*
It's a weird game, but I love it nonetheless.

Grrr...! Don't ya hate it when that happens?

Kali
02-13-2002, 09:39 PM
LOL! Yep, weird game. I still play it with my siblings every now and then. While we're watching my TMNT tapes.

I got mine used from a flea market, and the only piece that was missing was that blue launcher thing.

azure turtle
02-13-2002, 09:42 PM

You should! They're so cool! And I don't care if people think Legolas is gay, I like how his arrows shot too. Or how Sam wacks at these dorky orcs in the wall with his sword n pan.

Reminds me of those TMNT figures that flip when you push down on them, or does karate chops and stuff. I wish I could find more of those...

Aya! Another hobby to add to my already growing list  And ya, I remember those "action" turtle figs! I think my cousin used to have one before it broke, but I can't remember. Curses, I must start collecting turtle figs before many other fans start becoming nostalgic

Ain't that the truth! He makes archery look easy. Man, I guess I should start looking for some LOTR figs soon, if they're becoming hard to find. I heard that the movie got around 13 oscar nominations. Wow. I think this movie's gonna take some gold home.

Shyaa... tell me about it. I didn't get them when they first came out, cause I wanted the price to drop after the holidays were over. Bad move! Now all I find are the ORCS! F'ing orcs all over the place...

Legolas - "Well, *I* killed 28 orcs!"
Gimli - "So, I killed 20!"
Legolas - "HA HA HA HA! Loo-hooo-seh-er!"

Upon the release of the TTT next winter, they said they'll release another round of figures. In the meanwhile, I wonder what could be found in eBay... that one of the Ring Wraith on a horse that rears up and paws sounds cool too.

Skeletoncrew
02-16-2002, 04:22 PM
The movie is spectacular! I've seen it twice and it was even better the 2nd time!

Here are my observations on the action figures:

Gimli, Orc overseer, Newborn Lurtz, and Saruman are the easiest to find.

Strider (a Target exclusive) is the hardest ti find. He's currently going for $40.00 on the secondary market.

I've only seen the larger pieces (Cave Troll, Arwen and Asfaloth, Ringwraith and horse, and the twin packs) at Toys R Us. But then, I haven't checked any other large toy stores.

Prices are $7.99 and up for individual figures, $12.99 for twin packs, and $19.99 for the Cave troll and horse/rider sets.

And now that I've said all that, I have a wicked urge to go check out Target and Toys R Us.

azure turtle

LOTR was a pretty sweet movie, Kali. I highly recommend watching it on the big screen!
Argh! I knew I should've started getting some LOTR figs when I had the chance. Oh well. Maybe I'll wait for the next movie

azure turtle
02-18-2002, 02:23 AM
I recently visited another toy store at the local mall, and I couldn't find any LOTR action figs at all! I did find some interesting X-men action figs that were slashed from 9.99 to 3.99, but they didn't have any of my favorite X-men characters

HorseTechie
02-18-2002, 08:54 AM
You know, to my surprise (and excitment) certain video game and music stores have action figures too now. I can't think of the name of the video gamer's store, but the music store was Sam Goody. That one carries a good variety of the anime/McFarlane/Bruce Lee/CD:HD/LotR figures now.

azure turtle
02-18-2002, 05:00 PM
Wow, I haven't been to a Sam Goody's in a long time. I know that Suncoast carries anime DVDs/Vids and that they sometimes carry action figs, but I haven't been there in a while. I don't know if they carry LOTR figs.

Skeletoncrew

BTW, Hot Topic is currently selling TMNT t-shirts. They've got about 3 designs and they're all the cartoon style. They also have a couple with just the cartoon logo on it.

BTW Kali, I'm one of those salesclerk/ear piercers (not at Hot Topic!). If I ever wanted more holes in my ear I'd be careful about where I went. Our store didn't do piercing for a LONG time because the guns kept jamming. There's nothing quite like standing there with your gun attached to someone's ear because it didn't release completely.

Suffice to say, I'm quite hesitant to resume piercing again.

HorseTechie

I do have a bo-staff and a boken too. Have no idea how to use the boken, it's just a costume prop. But I learned some basics with the Bo. And I learned it's not wise to practice with one in a small apartment! Nearly poked a hole in the TV, and then later in a friendly sparring match with my friend, we knocked the phone and a picture frame from the table (I think we have that on tape!)

Actually, I want to get pierced again, even after that incident. One day I was just standing in this outdoor mall and thought, "I want to pierce my ears again." Just a spur of the moment thing, and I would have except there was no place there that did it.

And I've seen the prices at professional places! $45!, though I think it includes the jewelry.

I really like Jet Li! My favorite movie of his has just been released on DVD. I probably won't be buying it though. They changed the title from "The New Legend of Shaolin" to "Legend of the Red Dragon", and the DVD has dubbed voices. Part of the fun of the original movie was the cheesy subtitles. Stuff like the characters talking about how much they like chicken ass. I doubt the dubbed version has them saying "chicken ass".

Eh, I'll take your word on that, too. Anyway, my favorite Jet Li movie was the one where he had a little son who could kick some major arse. I forgot the name of the movie, but it was definitely cool.

Skeletoncrew
02-20-2002, 11:09 PM
Many of Jet-Li's movies were filmed in China and not received wide distribution here. Ones you might know of are Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, and he was in Lethal Weapon 4 (I think thats the right one).

I've always respected Jackie Chan for the fact that he doesn't do "special effects" type movies (though I don't have a problem with Crouching Tiger style fight scenes). Jackie Chan is a lot of fun to watch.

Kali
02-20-2002, 11:12 PM
Nope, never saw any of those movies.

I love watching Jackie Chan. I've always had a soft spot for action comedy. Have you seen his WB cartoon?

azure turtle
02-20-2002, 11:15 PM
Yep, I've seen all of Jet Li's "mainstream" appearances. You forgot to mention that Black Mask was in theatres for a short while. I remember, since I was one of three people who sat in a theatre to watch it  I've watched several of Jet Li's older movies (the Once Upon a Time in China series as well as a few others). And ya, I agree! Jackie Chan is a lot of fun to watch. It's true that he doesn't use any special effects during his fight scenes, not even wires. Still, I don't mind watching those kinds of fight scenes. I thought the fighting in Crouching Tiger, the Matrix, and Romeo Must Die were pretty awesome

I've never seen the Jackie Chan cartoon. I don't have a TV!

Azure Turtle, you might be thinking of my fave Jet Li movie. He has a kick butt son in "New Legend of Shaolin". They end up helping a group of 5 boys who have a map tattooed on their backs.

Yep, I doubt he does. Hmm, maybe I'll take a close look at the credits tomorrow. I don't usually read them, I couldn't care less, but I'd like to find out.

azure turtle
02-20-2002, 11:26 PM
Hmmm, no, I'm thinking of another movie. Although "New Legend of Shaolin" sounds interesting after you described it! I'm gonna have to hunt for that the next time I'm in a video store.

The movie I'm thinking of has Jet Li being a top secret agent, and his little son has no idea about it. The kid gets involved in Jet's latest case (I won't say how, in case you haven't seen this yet), and he teams up with another agent. This kid is pretty young, I'd say around seven, and he does his own fight scenes in the movie! He even fights off a few school bullies with his martial arts. Talk about hardcore

Ahhh! I really like Jet Li too! After hubby (who's also a very cute Korean) showed me some Jet Li flicks a couple years ago, I'm so enamored. (Before that, I used to like Jacki Chan *innocent smile*)

I will admit, I have a thing for "Lee's" in general. Jet li, Bruce Lee, Jason Lee (and my hubby, YoungKyu Lee) :goofygri:

But the flick I believe Azurte tos talking of, is called "the Enforcer"? I have that DVD, where Li's this secret agent type, and he's got a son and a wife who's very sick and... *shuts up before she ruins it for the others*

I also liked this other early one released in
China, all in Chinese... I forgot the exact name of it, by hubby said the English translation was "the Bodyguard".

To Nun: aww.. they erased all your fanfics from there? That bites indeed! But thanks for letting me know, so I can update your links to Brina's site. (hopefully those will be safe)

Ya, I always though Jackie's accent was a lot heavier. I guess he only does certain scenes in the cartoon? I know that the name of the girl in the cartoon is Jade, and that she's supposed to be Jackie's niece. I have no idea who Stacie Chan is, though.

azure turtle

Hmm....have you ever looked at any artwork by Georgia O'Keefe? I think she painted several pieces that focused on bull skulls. Good stuff.

azure turtle
02-25-2002, 02:39 AM
Ya! I like Georgia O'Keefe, though my cousin thinks I'm strange since her work is so phallic. I didn't even realize it was phallic 'til she pointed that out to me. Oh well. I did get to see some of her work in person when I visited the national art gallery in D.C. That was one of the coolest trips I've ever been on.

Skeletoncrew

azure turtle
02-25-2002, 02:45 AM
I didn't see anything phallic about her work, either. My cousin had to point it out to me, and that's when I realized the symbolism behind all of the flowers. That darn cousin, she ruined my virgin eyes.

Phallic art... hrmmm

Ooh... I'll have to admit I have a couple bones lying around too. In my senior year of HS, I was in advanced Biology class where we disected all kinds of critters.

One of them was a small shark, and the prof let us keep the jaws if we can dissect them out in one piece. (then he showed us how to make a bleach solution to soak it in so it would get that weathered white look).

Tramsformers... fighter jet... well, there were three that I know of. I had StarScream (White, blue, red) and Dirge (blue, copper, black). Forgot what the other dude was...

And my bro, he's weird. He did take his TFs from the box to play with em, or have them out on display. Now he's put them all back in the boxes and made it look like they were never taken out!

And now, Speed's spam run resurect's this old thing. maybe... I could use it to my advantage.

*clears throat - braces herself for the uproar it may cause*

I've been thinking... I seriously do not have anything personal against Machias and Kali's TMNT clones.

I only find it displaced, and that it's often a few pages long at a time. It's good we agreed to keep the TMNT topics clear of of these now. But yet, in true definition... the acting with the clones is actually ROLE PLAYING.

I suggest, if a new folder under the TMNT fanworks could be made just for your guys clone RP's.

And I guess we can make up other folders there too for paintball and squirt gun wars. That way, we'll know what to expect in each thread a little more. And we'll know which thread it was in.

Hmmm....that sounds like a good idea, HT! Then we'll know what's happening in each thread. It's getting kinda hard to keep track of where a conversation took place...
*le sigh*

How are you going to use it to your advantage?

I don't collect many, but I have a few X-men and Transformers that my brother gave me.
