View Full Version : Phil Harrison " The PS3 makes PC's moot"

Wow.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152133.html

When are they going to stop? It seems as soon as one thing begins to settle down, ten more pop up from these assholes. I sincerely hope that Sony loses so much money on the PS3 that they'll withdraw from the console business and go back to making overpriced TV's instead.

didn't I already post this?

No matter what they say, I'm not buying a PS3. Sony needs to do what Sega did. Stop making hardware and focus on games. Although, if Sony goes away, it could mean bad things. What if it was only Microsoft and Nintendo? Then somehow, Microsoft defeats Nintendo and then we have a gaming industry monopoly, with maybe even higher prices and crappy games.

Uhm....it would suck?

Nintendo lives and dies by the games... they won't ever leave the hardware market.

PC's are billions of times more versatle then consoles, even for gaming. I just can't see anything like WoW popping up on a console, and actually working to the same level it does on a PC. Wii will make it easier for some PC games to be played, since you can use the Wiimote like a mouse, but PC's are still a bit above consoles.

And if those new specs for PS3 are real... well... an average gaming PC can outrun it, which you can get for around a hundred more then a PS3. Go figure.

Can you download porn on a PS3? I think not.

Go away, Sony. Just go away.

"We have already worked on it a long time, and Nintendo almost certainly has done likewise with something similar,"

Don't you just love the way that ****** is trying to make it look like their idea and that Nintendo copied them. The only good thing here is this time, it isn't working.

"We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

Microsoft was right. The only reason they created the Xbox years ago was to position themselves as a wall between Sony and the PC market, because they felt that Sony wanted to make a Playstation that could compete with PC's. Sony wants people to check their email, look at the web, watch movies, play games, and all that sh*t, and have a device that conrners the PC market. I was afraid a couple of years ago that this would cause lazy people to switch over to Playstation 3 instead of their PC (like some people use those dumbed down TV Satelite based email services), and that Sony would be able to do whatever the fu*k they wanted with a large portion of the people on the web using a Sony gateway.

Fortunately, that is not possible now. Fu*k you Sony.

"The PlayStation 3 is a computer.

In that case, why should gamers get one then? I build my own PC's because ******s like Phil Harrison always put time bombs in the preloaded software packages on factory PC's so that the thing will blow up after a period of time. That is not an exxageration because the only factory computer I ever bought (A Sony Viao) blew up after 61 days, the DAY the warrenty went out. I sent the thing to them, and they said I had pay $200 in repairs, I threated to call my lawyer and they fixed it and gave me a free palm PC.

Still ashamed to use the word Video Game huh Sony. Goddamn I hate those people.

The CPU is moot. The PS3 does not pollute. There are games where you shoot...police and other aggressors. PS3 can teach you like a professor...how to achieve your dreams. The PS3 cannot shoot laser beams....yet.

Sorry, the title of this thread reminded me of an SNL sketch where The Rev. Jackson hosted a game show called "The Question is Moot..." Good stuff. Next thing we'll hear is the X-box 360 will make the entire entertainment system obsolete...but I digress. Does Sony assume that making the PS3 some sort of demi-god of a machine will make people shell out the $600 to own one.

We shouldn't be taking this too seriously -- it's pretty damn apparent that the PS3 won't replace computers any time soon. A statement like that is pretty ridiculous when taken at its face value.

But, he's promoting the console and trying to hype up the machine, so maybe we should treat him with a little leniency. Incidentally, 'still not sure wether or not Sony copied (a harsh word, don't you think?) Nintendo's Wii controller design, or if it occurred the other way around. It's pretty irrelevant, in any case...Both systems will have motion-sensor capabilities, and that's that.

Sony's stab at motion sensing technology is a direct result to the Wii. I'm 100% sure of this. Harrison is a liar. Every single developer asked about it said they hadn't heard a thing about it until either a week prior, or until the press conference. If they were working on this so long ago, I'm sure someone would have known something, especially first party developers.

You've got to be kidding me. Really. EA admitted that they hadn't heard a damned thing about it until a week before E3, and the guy who made that broken Warhawk demo said that he was informed to make it at the last second, two weeks before their press conference.

Not to sound offensive, but anyone who believes Sony's obvious bullsh1t is completely blind.

Now when have you ever worried about sounding offensive, ThirdMarioBro? :P

Even if you are correct, the PS3 and Wii controllers are nothing alike, even in their motion-sensor capabilities. Perhaps Sony (that isn't a dirty word around here, is it?) was in fact feeling threatened by Nintendo's doohicky and decided to add that feature at the last minute -- the reality is, as I said before, it's pretty irrelevent. Even those who plan on purchasing a PS3 won't be doing so solely for the motion-sensor controller...It's just one more feature.

They wern't threatened, until they found the development community loved it and Nintendo was going into E3 with a hype train. That's when they added the gyro, thinking it would steal some thunder. It didn't.

That probably did in fact happen, I'm just saying that to the majority of gameplayers out there (y'know, the casual fans who don't necessarily go to E3 and who don't study the industry every single waking moment) might simply look at Nintendo's controller and go, "Meh, it's just a gimmick."

With the PS3 Dualshock, they've got the best video game controller in existence (in my humble opinion) AND they've got gyro technology, the best of both worlds. Sony was probably aiming for mass-market appeal, you see.

At least, that's how I tend to see it. But maybe I'm just a little delusional.

Gasp. Do I detect a veiled insult? How daring of you, Ecto.

Anyways, what are they going to call the Dualshock now? Considering another one of their stolen ideas, rumble, has been taken from them. It won't be doing any "shocking" anymore.

And BTW, no one with a brain would go for "mass-market appeal" with a $600 console.

I don't get it, the PS2/3 controller always looks like a SNES controller with 2 joysticks and 2 extra shoulder buttons. Umm.... I'm not sure what I'm trying to say.
