Hey everyone! I have a few questions I was hoping some of you could answer for me regarding the Spider-man comics. Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

#1. IS there any continuity between the different Spider-man comics, by which I mean Amazing Spider-man, Peter Parker: Spider-man, etc.

#2. In The Peter Parker: Spider-man comics, Volume.1 is drawn and written by Todd Mcfarlane and Volume.2 has a much different look, is there strong continuity between the two volumes?

#3. Which Spider-man comic book(s) would you recommend for a strong story and strong continuity?

Thanks a lot!!!
Again, help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. PM me if you know of any places I could find these comics available or..um..online. Thanks!

Yes. Several of the titles back in the 90's and most recently with "The Other" carried the same stroylines. Only Ulitimate Spider-Man is presently out of continuity.

Mcfarlane did'nt last ten minutes on that book to start with, exiting after only two arcs, that title lost it's purpose and just became another interconnected canon title which did'nt stand out again.

#3. Which Spider-man comic book(s) would you recommend for a strong story and strong continuity?

Ultimate Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man

I hadn't read any Spider-Man til this year, but the first 20 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko that were reprinted in Essentials are all very good.

I was an avid Spider-Man reader for many many years. Basically AMS has been all one big continuous story for years. I dropped out for a bit with the Clone Saga, and I had since heard it was scrapped from continuity all together. Apparently they had a restart from that saga or something? I never really looked into it. I've dropped out of ASM and comics in general over the last two or so years, though, so I'm not quite sure. Either way, most of it has all been straight continuation.

ASM is really good, or was. Strazinski was great for the comic. Specifically when Romita Jr was on, something just flowed between the artwork and the story. This was the first time, in a long time, Spidey was actually funny. The best of this run was probably the Home Coming arch, or Until The Stars Turn Cold, and some after that. The whole storyline with MJ and Peter, and Aunt May, even. It's really odd to have a good storyline for Aunt May. I loved the Ezekiel character.

It's still in continuity, it's just...not mentioned. Like Maximum Carnage, it's just something they "don't talk about"

Does the "Peter Parker: Spiderman" line, take place after "The Amazing Spiderman" line...or am I a bit confused:-?

It's hard to say. Both comics are basically happening around the same time. One story from one comic may be happening before or after events from the other storyline. Although Amazing Spider-Man has a more cracked down continuity, and seems to be building a stronger base on the idea of continuity itself, whereas Peter Parker Spider-Man, those are good stories, but good stories that stand alone, that can happen anywhere in the current timeline of Spider-Man. And what was Spectacular Spider-Man is now Peter Parker: Spider-Man. So when I refer to either, I'm referring to both areas of the series. The best Peter Parker: Spider-Man archs, I think, are The Hunger, which is a great take on Venom, and then there's Return of the Goblin. Both drawn by Humberto Ramos, who gave Goblin his new look (ratty clothes all sewn up and ****).

Thanks Brodie, I appreciate the help. :-? :-? :-? its frustrating having to switch around different comics so much just to get a full story.

I'm not really familiar with the old Volume 1 Amazing Spider-man comics(and by old I mean the first 200 issues or so) I was wondering if anyone on the boards know if they hold up to the quality of the Amazing Spider-man comics being made today, or are they even better? What was the quality of Amazing Spider-man when it first got started? Are the old issues worth reading? Thanks!

For all my comic book related research, I use Wikipedia these days. It's really awesome what the people on there put together. Also, I like the fact that Wiki-Entries are usually more complete than anything any user could say to you.

And here's the article: The Amazing Spider-Man - 40 years on one page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Amazing_Spider-Man_comics)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link! and for merging the thread.
One more question, is Amazing Spider-man overlap with other spiderman titles a lot? Will it be hard to follow a story if im reading strictly Amazing Spider-man issues?

I can tell from just scrolling through the link I've given you, that the first multi-series event took place in ASM #326, then again at #395, #397, #401, #405, #408, #410, #411, #412, #415, #416, #418, #432 and every issue from #525 is crossovered with something either "The Other" or "Civil War"-related.

And no, I didn't read all the comic books, I just looked at the list. I just read the ones starting from "The Other".
