It's a 2008 International RE300 built in Conway, Ark. When we drove the new motorcoach thru there on the 40, it was still at the factory, that's how new it is.

Yeah I remember you saying you were near the International factory. We saw it on our way here with the coach, we would have stopped for a tour but it was the holidays and it was closed. It would have been cool if we got a tour and there was this Cali spec'd bus there almost done being built...and a month later I'm driving it. lol..oh well.

yeah i t does. all new Cal schoolies have them now.
my issue with them is that can 63 little ones, belted in, escape a bus if it were on fire? Not even with the 2 cutters and 7 emergency exits can they all get out.
Other than that, they keep the goobers in the seats and the higer backs absorb noise making it a quieter ride.

I read somewhere that seatbelts in school buses do more harm than good in terms of safety.

Do you have to make the kids wear seatbelts? That would probably be a pain, especially if they were kids like I was

I just never thought it was practical. I've heard that schoolbus injuries are quite rare when compared to other cars and trucks, and that installing seatbelts in every bus just wouldn't be worth the cost.

The seatbelt issue is a really hot topic in the industry.
The 3 point seatbelts do not cause as much injuries than the lap belts. I saw a crash test of lap belts only in a school bus. There were alot of injuries to the dummies. California stalled adding them for so long because they wanted to be sure. The pressure to put them in buses came from parents who dont know squat about buses, and politicians trying to be PC and look good for those voting parents. After tons of testing and all that, California decided on 3 point belts and redesigned seats are the trick.
Im like whatever...just gimme a new bus.

I tell t he to wear the belts, i can not enforce it..thats what chaperones are for. I do not do home/school runs - just trips and I always have an adult on board w ith me

Nice Bus buslady!

But about the concerns of seat belts. Here in South Florida, parents and students alike are against the seat belts, because they think it would cause more harm than good. One bus had seat belts, and some punk decided to use one of the belts to strangle a fellow student. I know they could use other things to strangle, but this is one thing to worry about, along with Buslady's concerns of a fire.

Also, there is a possibilty of them being a hindrance if the bus was to flip into a body of water.

I personally thought it might be better to have padded handle bars for the kids to hang onto as opposed to the seat belts.
