I just got a chance to see the finished version.
The movie has been cut down (it was at least 2 hours...) so expect a DVD with some nice deleted scenes or perhaps a directors cut.
Here is one of the scenes I noticed wasn't in the finished version of the film but I had seen previously:
In the beginning they don't show that Mikey is at a party right away, they start with him on a com-link inside the Cowabunga Carl head talking to Don, basically freaking out like he's about to be attacked.
All the kids run in and beat the crap out of him.
He is on the ground and all the children leave the room for cake. The last kid to leave the room stops, turns back towards Mikey and just kicks him in the stomach.
We see a shot from above with Mikey laying there curling up into a fetal position with pained whimpering. Cut to him leaving the party, the kids chanting "byebye" and all that with one kid screaming over all the others "You suck!".
The whole scene is very funny and sad at the same time.
If you are reading these forums most likely you will enjoy the movie. ;)

I did feel there was a bit missing from this scene in the movie. Where did you see this? Any ideas on any other scenes that are missing? It would be great if they can add them back in to the movie for the DVD as it did feel particularly short to me.

That is pretty much like what we saw in San Diego-- only the last line was by the girl who crotch-kicked Mikey afterwards-- THIS is the BEST birthday ever! I think I need my medicine!"
Let's face it-- there are things that we saw a year ago that were prolly changed-- all the more reason for a TWO DISC SET!!!!!

There are actually a lot of differences between the finished movie, the various previews we've seen (including trailers), and especially the novelization.
I'm gonna work on compiling a ginormous list of differences this week (well, I'll start on it at least).

apparently a few of the lines explaining the monsters that were in the novel are missing from the film

There was at least one dialogue change from a clip in the trailer. All scenes we saw with finished music are the same in the movie. There are lots of scenes in the book that are not in the movie at all. And some of the pictures that were leaked after Christmas are not in the movie at all.

What about that part in the book when Mikey and Don have that little serious conversation about behind behind. Did that make it in?

the game had dialogue from the part in the novel where they play Ninja tag (Don suggests Leo and Raph team up and the both of them end up in a shoving match because their team work sucks) I think its safe to say that got cut out as well.

Huh? Behind behind?
There is no ninja tag in the movie.

Damn it, that was one of the best parts of the novelization!
Mikey at the party?
Mikey talking to Don about never leaving the glass bowl?
Leo and Raph's shoving match during ninja tag?
I am seriously ****ing pissed off now. This thing was originally 2 hours?? Why has it been butchered?

studios are afraid to put out longer flicks, especially when they have to think of the little ones. sometimes it works, sometimes it does'nt. a shame to because some of the bad reviews wanted more interesting interaction between the turtles---and from what we know they had some that got deleted for whatever reason.

I am guessing someone at Warner Brothers is to blame.
I would suggest to see the film before you get too pissed off. Even with the scenes missing it still worked and it was still very understable why the characters had conflicts, plus it just gives us more to look forward to for a super awesome DVD package...
Now give us a lame DVD release and THEN I will be pissed ;)

To be fair, I can understand why the birthday party part was changed; I think you'll agree when you see the movie.
A lot of the bits in the lair that were in the book were not in the movie.. like Mike and Don avoiding practice after Leo is back and anything about Don installing the air conditioner. Mike is also not portrayed as a Nightwatcher fanboy.
And yeah, no Mike/Don conversation and no ninja tag.

was the Mikey beat down part edited because they thought it was to violent or something?
Also it is a shame that the serious conversation about "not ever leaving the fish bowl" between Mike and Donatello was not included. I really like when they give Michaelangelo indepth character moments that show he is not jusat the silly wacky turtle. But what ever  I'm still really looking foward to the movie and the Raph+Leo tension.
It would be great if they can add them back in to the movie for the DVD as it did feel particularly short to me.
I can see it now: TMNT - UNRATED!! Technically, it would be unrated even though it's still all PG material. But, how many idiots do you think would buy it expecting to see blood or brief nudity?
Let's face it-- there are things that we saw a year ago that were prolly changed-- all the more reason for a TWO DISC SET!!!!!
Sounds logical. But, since the DVD is slated for July 10th, 15 and a half weeks after its theatrical release, I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Nearly four months sounds like enough time to churn out a fairly impressive DVD, but it really seems like they're planning on making it a cookie-cutter release in as much as they even have a street date for the DVD already. :ohwell:
There was at least one dialogue change from a clip in the trailer.
Mikey points, and says, "Whoa. Somebody's cranky!
Is that what you were referring to?

It's not fear. Sure, they're afraid of turning off the audience with a movie that is too long, but they have to pay exponentially more for every additional minute shown in theaters. They just don't want to take the risk that it would hurt the box office ratings. Remember, they have to make $100 mil domestic to ensure a sequel. So, I imagine the production was all for it, saying "there's always DVD". :)

Well, yeah. But, my point was that it's more sensible caution than senseless fear. It's a subtle difference, so I'm splitting hairs. ... Sue me. :)

No. I'm thinking the part where Mike jumps into Don's arms when they're fighting the Bigfoot monster. Mike's line was slightly different there.

It's only that the beginning of the movie was cut differently than was likely originally in mind.

So the novelization that you're all talking about... is this this comic version or the actual book? I've been debating whether to get the it or not. The one I've found is only 128 pages so I'll have the thing read in under an hour. But, then again, the scenes with Mikey and Don sound really interesting and they apparently don't make the actualy movie, so I may give it a go.

The books sucks in my opinion, and had me worried about the outcome of the movie, but the clips I have seen erased all that worry away.
Personally, the movie is only a few days away, so I'd just wait for that. But there are supposed to be comics that go with the movie to help fill in some plot holes that ended up on the cutting room floor.

I really, really doubt they cut out an entire half hour's worth of footage from the film. There's no way a studio is going to drop thirty minutes of computer animation of that quality down the drain. Yes, I know stupid decisions get made in Hollywood all the time, but I doubt that was the case here.
A few minutes maybe got cut, sure; little things here and there get trimmed and changed all the time. But unless someone comes up with a TMNT shooting script that has 120 pages or more, I really doubt it was ever going to be that long. Kids movies are generally intended to be no more than 90 minutes so you can get more showtimes in a day. In fact, I think the only computer animated movie near the two hour mark is The Incredibles, right?
I could be wrong, and it would be kind of cool to think that there's more to see than what I saw, but I'm skeptical to say the least.

according to Munroe in his Front Line thread there was ALOT of alternate footage and cut footage that got sent to Warner Bros. for consideration to put on the DVD

Well, this is one of the few instances I'm glad I'm wrong. Although I have to wonder how much was just alternate takes on scenes that did make it into the final cut as opposed to entire scenes. The movie really seemed to flow without any sense of something being cut, although that could've just been me.

he did also say that at one point they had a 2 hour cut so I imagine more family scenes, fight footage etc

Hmmm, I guess. I mean, I'm not saying that I think a longer runtime would make the film worse, but the theatrical cut as it is really comes off as a taut, fast-paced thrill ride which seems to benefit from not being overly long to begin with. Unless the deleted scenes were really important to the plot I don't think I'm going to miss them much. Like my friend pointed out and I agreed with, when we realized what time it was when the movie ended, we had expected it to be a little bit later than it was because the movie just felt so big.
That said, if there isn't an extended cut or the inclusion of this footage on the DVD, I would be mighty irked because we ought to be able to see it somehow. Much like how we should get special edition DVDs of the original films with actual bonus material, ya know? Either way, thanks for the new info. I had considered myself pretty well informed about the movie, but I guess not. :D
johnnyblaze
03-23-2007, 01:10 PM
I imagine that was the exact reason--to add to the fast paced, keep it flowing nicely. Hit hard then fade away I guess you could say. Its just always nice to see what didn't make the cut or alternate versions of a scene--just cuz
crap, how'd that double happen? :p
Hit hard then fade away I guess you could say.
Precisely. I'd love another 30 minutes of turtles, but I don't think it would have improved the movie overly much for a general audience. If you want a director's cut, maybe you should start a thread to ask Kevin Munroe for it.

It was NOT originally two hours. the original poster is over-estimating. it was maybe longer by like 5 min. and they didnt cut any scenes in their entirety; the things they cut were just pieces of scenes/sequences so that the movie would move along. unfortunately the parts they cut were parts that older audiences would've appreciated.

Someone should make a list and put it up at wikipedia. Not sure if its a deleted scene but the footage in this clip was not shown in the movie.

That's not a deleted scene. That was commercial made to promote the video game.
And yeah, I heard there was a crotch kick, too. I was looking forward to seeing it (not that I like my boy Mikey in pain or anything ;))

You know what I want? Uncut DVD's. Not the movie, then a section of deleted scene's. Put the deleted scene's IN the DVD's feature film itself! Makes viewing deleted scene's sort of pointless. I honestly never understood why they did it. Alternate scene's, yes. Deleted or extended scene's, no. And I'm 100% sure we'll still get the cut movie, and a section full of deleted or extended scene's. This is the case with just about every damn DVD sadly...

I felt the fight scenes in the end were edited to get the PG rating. Leo only got kick in the chest and thats it. I would like to see the Generals to put up with a more challenge. They did beat the blue monsters easily while the turtles had some trouble.

Upon closer inspection from the trailer, I notise some minor parts in it thats not in the theaterical film:
-Raph driving this motorcycle near the brooklyn bridge
-two cops diving for cover as Raph drives his motorcycle up a road
-General Gato throwing four projectiles right after General says "destory them"
-some voice acting and dialogues doesn't match whats in the movie
-Donnie putting on his goggles while Mikey is practing in the background
Don't remeber this part:
http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/3042/2477/lo/TMNTD-00066.jpg
-In the futurette video, Donnie takes his stick and whack it across the big hammer guy's body.

Leo had no idea who she was. Karai said "you" then attacked him. One of the Turtles then said "but the Shredder's dead!"
As for the movie's running time, I would've liked to see some more Mikie Donnie interaction and a better climax because the end seemed really rushed to me.

Yeah the fight with the Generals were short. Hell, the Generals sucked movie wise too. While the Auaqila had plenty of lines and scene's, the other three generals had more lines and scene's in the video game. Hell, you even hear their names in the game. The movie, you only hear Auaqila's name.

Leo did not who Karai was. She attacked him the moment she saw him without warning. Leo side-stepped her sword swings a few times before catching the blade in his hands.
Leo says to her "We're trying to help you." Karai replies with "The Foot does not need help." Then she wrenches away from him, calls away her soldiers, and dives off the side of the building. As she does, Leo shouts to her "Who are you?! The Shredder's dead! Who are you working for?!"
