not sure, but im guessing it involves a lot of slow boring drama, "goongala"s with no action =P

Well Mirgae has never been just action, But If there is none, well maybe Laird can't pull it off as good as he did 15-20 years ago.

Oh goody "violence" . Patience Zao this series is building somewhere and towards something. I just have no idea what yet? But I have a strong suspicion that there will be plenty of action before this story is over. By the way how many more returning characters are there that Laird can bring in? He's brought back about 12 already.

-"Oh Renet -- Please! Just pass out or something! Yak, yak, yak, yak!"
Hopefully Renet can get an ep in a possible second season of the cartoon... :D

The newerish Mirage series is a quaint little throwback to 85', but what Im really interested(and I think most comic fans in general) Will be the super cool anime tinged color cg'd Dreamwave title! Sadly, no pix, word from Dreamwave, or Previews solicitation has been made. But, you saw what they did for Transformers! WOW!

You are a lttle too Intrested about a children's comic... And Yes it will be one. It is based on the new cartoon, so there can be no death ETC. OF course I hope that wouldn't happen, But I can't see any other choice.
As for the new comic being like done in 85, You are the person who has mostly said that everything were done better at the 80's and you are saying it is a bad thing? Well I've read only issue one, But I have heard that it doesn't get on the same level with older Mirage. And I think that nothing ever can.

Not sure why you keep calling it a kiddy book. As the official word I posted sounds anything but an Archie book. And does this mean the cartoon doesnt interest you?(if it fact is based on it?)
The new series...I was so excited in Late 2001...Saw the cover, opened it up, and was like 'yeahhhh.....'..., looked through it, and put it back. I look through most the issues, but that really outdated stimpling look just looks...ugh.
Yes, I always say things were better in the 80's...BUT! When you do a revival of an 80's thing, you simply cant bring out a carbon copy...youve got to update it, hence what 4Kids and Dreamwave are doing with the new cartoona nd comic respectively. That breathtaking new Transformers comic series by Dreamwave, ya think fans would be digging it if it was done in that old mid 80's Marvel style? heck no. So when game developers make a new Metroid or Contra game...they are not simply making the same ol old stuff, but a whole new vision and evolution of the series, with a flavor of th eold that made it fun and appealing in the first place. I think theats what they are doing here with the new TMNT revival...not simply more of the same ol nostlagia(tho I surmise some fans would be content with that...not me tho!) but a whole new look.

I know the cartoon can't have any death, and I accept it and wil most probably like it. But if the comic is based on the cartoon, it is targeted at same group that watch the cartoon, in this case kids. You really think they could do Death in it? I don't believe they can... Of course I would like the idea of 2 diffrent TMNT books, But Im afraid it will be anoher archie.
I Don't know much about the Dreamwave Transformer Armada book, It is based on the children's cartoon like the new TMNT book, So does it have death & more mature story telling? If yes, There is hope for a second good TMNT book...
And Im not sure what more a Black&white book could be. Of course one could complain about Lawsson's humans, but the TMNT look very good.

So from what I'm reading, for the most part, no death = not mature? :o Well, I don't think that the new cartoon and Dreamwave will be quite on the level of Mirage, buuuut if they were then what would be the point of it? If you have two comics basically just alike it would seem kinda silly, no?
The Dreamwave Armada book hasn't had any death yet, but we are talking about the main characters being robots. So, death probably wouldn't be as big a deal. After all, think of how many transformers died in the movie.
Well, I guess I'm getting way off topic, but I do like the new vol. 4 series. I've liked all the series (bar not really finding any intrest in Archie and Image getting a little too ... Image. They made they Mirage books look G rated). I'm just glad the turtles are back in such force where we have a multitude of ways to collect, watch, and enjoy them.

Well It is TMNT, if it wants to avoid becoming a children's comic, there shoudln't be any limits like "characters cannot die or get seriously wounded" That is what takes Mirage above all other TMNT universes. Image went a little overboard with it.
Well It can have mature writig and be suitable for kids at the same time, Like the new show probably will be, But if it has those limits in it, then it can never be as intresting as Mirage can[Not speaking of volume 4 here, Can't make an opinnion about that yet].

Nngh... nevermind Karpo there. He's just a Mirage supremist.
I for one, will not judge how DW will create this new comic until after I have read a couple issues. From what I have seen so far, DW is very much capable of "going both ways", be it a kiddy book or one for young adults.

Yes but it is a comic based on the cartoon. Like Armada. I haven't read it So I can't say how mature the writing in it is.
HorseTechie
01-27-2003, 11:13 AM
True... and even though I had not seen the TV show of Armada, I have collected the comics. Many TF fans said the comics were waaaay better than the show. My only complaint about the Armada comic, was how they drew the eyes on the human kids. The TF's look okay. The the biggest differences is that Pat Lee is NOT involved in any part of Armada.
This is the team on Armada:
Pencils: James Raiz
Story & Plot: Chris Sarracini
Inks: Rob Armstrong
Colors: Alan Wang
But the more mature TF comics I really enjoy was the G1 reissue and The War Within. Pat Lee did the pencils for G1, and Chris Sarracini is also in charge of this.
http://www.dreamwaveprod.ca/!thesite/mainpages/comics/transformers.shtml
But they also do darker stories, that are not kiddie TF things, like Warlands (which Pat Lee also pencils for):
http://www.dreamwaveprod.ca/!thesite/mainpages/comics/warlands.shtml
Fate of the Blade (that Chris Sarracini also writies for):
http://www.dreamwaveprod.ca/!thesite/mainpages/comics/fateoftheblade.shtml
and Darkminds (that both Pat and Chris work together on):
http://www.dreamwaveprod.ca/!thesite/mainpages/comics/darkminds.shtml
Hence.. even though Armada is the ONLY kiddie comic, the rest are more mature, and do deal with death. Sure, much of it has the anime style as well, but it's the well done, mature styling.. not the goofy, over-exaggerated chibi.
Judge not... when you know not.

Still the fact that it is based on the cartoon means it will be targeted at younger audience, and that can put limits to what the artist can do.

True.. but the fact the Armada comic is MUCH better than the TV show sez a lot. :P

And the TMNT comic will be written by Peter David! So there are a pretty slim chance it will be just for kids...

yeah, don's never created an android. if he did, maybe it was in turtle soup, but im pretty sure he didnt. maybe you are thinking of the one-shot where they bring robot drawings to life?
either way, i dont see how that cover has anything to do with anything ive ever seen in the mirage or image series hehe

Maybe... They did have some big android in a A.C. Farley issue around #29-30... Let's check the official site...

Right... It was the robot they practised fighting with. He had no importance to the story and was only there for 2 pages... Otherwise that issue was very cool. And First done by A.C Farley.

I have a theory about those "nanoturtlebots", I think they're Nanobots built by the Utroms to defeat Baxter's nanobots and save April, and for the symbolic fun of it, they make 'em look like the turtles!
