So after Bodom's last release "Are You Dead Yet?" I was pretty sure they were finished. The album just wasn't that good and it was progressing towards something I'm just not into. It wasn't very Bodom to me. They were tuned way to low and their songs lacked the overall energy Bodom has.
So when I heard about "Blooddrunk" I wasn't super excited. My other two favorite bands "Arch Enemy" and "Dark Tranquillity" both released one of their best albums last year. With that high I didn't want Bodom smashing me down so I went in not expecting much out of it.
It sounds like a hybrid of "Hate Crew Deathroll" and "Are You Dead Yet?" It gets very heavy in some parts but it keeps the overall speed and energy that Bodom has. The lyrics are still about kicking peoples asses and being an alcoholic. The whole premise of the album however is Alexi breaking his arm sometime last year.
So if you liked "Hate Crew" I think you'll enjoy this release. It's definitely worth a listen. Also they re-recorded "Tie My Rope" because Alexi himself said in a review that the original song sounds like crap. Personal recommendation is "Done With Everything Die For Nothing" it's my favorite song on the album, has the best display of musicianship, awesome chorus, and good riffs.
Also anyone whose interested Bodom are playing with In Flames and Megadeth on the Gigatour this year. The show I'm going to is May 18th. Also I'm seeing Iron Maiden on the 27th of May and the night after Arch Enemy with Dark Tranquillity. So if you interested in those bands check around the dates, it's the most metal month in history.
Also this album cover is actually pretty good.
