Mikey's New Name?!

Hey everyone! I remember someone mentioning that Mikey's name changed in the new TMNT comic from "Michaelangelo" to "Michelangelo," the correct spelling. I can't remember who it was (I think it was either SC or HT), but I found it curious, so I wrote to Dan Berger. Here's his response, covered in copy and paste goodness for your enjoyment :grin:

Yup. Peter has regretted the spelling error for many years now, so he plans
on spelling it properly in all future TMNT projects.

It is kinda weird, but we've never been very good about maintaining
continuity. =O)

Maybe its a sign that Mikey is getting forgetful. He missplaced that "a" so now he has to spell his name with one less letter!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Michelangelo is the correct spelling of the name. The reason he became Michaelangelo is:-

When Kevin and Peter first started the Mirage comics they didn't have a spell checker on their computer, so they never saw the mistake until it was too late. It is all on Kevin's website.

My spell checker keeps popping it up as Michelangelo, which is so annoying when writting fanfiction. Even better, it thinks I should change Donatello to Monatello.

LOL! Yeah, I got that at first. Then I just added the names to the dictionary, and I don't have a problem anymore. Of course some of the weapons and japanese terms still give me a problem.

Personally I know that Michelangelo is correct, but I like Michaelangelo more.

On an aside, I'm going to be seeing some of the real Michelangelo's art when I'm in Rome!

Yep, I agree. I've grown to like that extra 'a' in his name. I don't think I can start calling him Michelangelo; it's just too weird. He'll always be Michaelangelo. Otherwise, his nicknames wouldn't make sense. They'd have to change Mikey to Mickey. Ugh.

Actually, I think they would still say MichAelangelo. It seems on the art nuts and the Italians pronounce the name without tha A sound.

Funny though, like in the end of the first color Mirage Vol 2, they have it that Mike's some kind of indie movie producer, having it as "A Michaelangelo Production". I guess that one isn't going to be true then (Laird overrules many of Lawson's idea's?) Hrm...

But I was readingt eh letters section in the new ish 4, and Jepahel poitned out that Shadow referred to him as "Rooish" is #3. Silly me didn't even notice that. But Liard explaned that's what his daughter started calling their cat, Mikey. So he thought it be cute to make that Shadow's nick name for Mike. *3-2-1* Awww.... :goofygri:

LOL! Raph's nickname? Hmm...that'd be interesting. I'm sure Shadow can get away with calling him "grumpy". :razz: I've started spelling Mikey's name the "correct" way, but I still like calling him Mike or Mikey, instead of Michel...as Don calls him in the TMNT letters. Eh...
