TMNT Original Movie Observation Sai Confusion

Today I was watching the original movie of the TMNT, when I noticed something. Have you ever seen closely at the sai when Raph threw it and it landed on the ground? Now through out the film he had wrapped prongs, but in that scene, the prongs aren't wrapped. I am guessing either they had to use a real sai or forgot to wrap it. Take a look for yourself, but when April picks it up they are wrapped:

I believe they're both real sai.

The one in the first image is a stunt-sai double!
They never let the stars do anything dangerous.

I don't think the prongs are wrapped; it's probably just the light playing tricks. I haven't watched the movie in ages so I don't know for sure though.
