The TMNT DOCUMENTARY is for real!

As some of you are aware of the TMNT documentary is currently in the works. I was waiting until Sunday when the site and trailer go up to post this, but in the light of the ironic situation of Lionsgate doing a fan bonus feature I thought I'd put the word out now so as not to confuse them with us.

The TMNT fan documentary has already begun shooting as of last month. We are traveling down to New York for the Comic Con and other TMNT related locations in the area in Feb. Between now and April we plan on questing across the country again in search of anything and everything TMNT!

If you are a fan and would like to share your story, if you know of something or someone TMNT related that you might like to suggest, if you have home video or pictures of you as a youth playing with or opening turtles on a birthday or Christmas, if you have a massive collection, or if you just want to say hi!! Drop me a line! We will come to you!!! You can email me at:

isaac@fauxpop.tv

The website will be up late afternoon on Sunday Jan. 25th.

www.turtledoc.com

This is a big event! We would love to help as many of you as we can share your stories and help support the community. We hope to catch up with anyone TMNT related in the creative aspects as well. We hope that we can help celebrate the 25th aniversary by making something by fans, for fans, about fans, for the TMNT history and world!

So please show your support!! And we hope to meet some of you soon!!

Thanks!

Isaac

In case that was a reply to me, I was only asking where the budget was coming from. For the officialer fan-documentary, it seems obvious that Lionsgate is footing the bill. I'll help in an off-camera fashion if needed, but I was in no way complaining. I'd also like to know how you guys intend to distribute this. Surely you're not going to blow your budget on something that'll only be uploaded to youtube... Right?

Hey thats all cool! Let people know that it is going on! If you have pictures you want to send in, thats also cool!

I am not sure what you mean about "footing the bill"? Just a question.

Anyways, to answer your question no we will not just be hosting this on youtube. There are many avenues for distribution available. In some ways it depends on how things go. In the worse case scenario this will be available on DVD for sale on the web, at shows, and possibly at retail outlets.

Like I say, no matter if you have a collection or not, if your just a passing fan, even if you only remember the turtles as a kid, your stories are ALL important to us and we want to share them.

We will come to you! Email me, tell me a little about yourself and why you like the TMNT and where you are located (this can be general if you want, such as which state/city) We want to make this as big and widespread as we can!

I hope this is something everyone will enjoy and can look back on for years to come!

As long as it isn't a freakshow, like the Lionsgate fan bonus thing sure aims to be ("We want only the BIGGEST fans that have the biggest collections"... because everyone knows you're not a big TMNT fan unless you have bought tons of TMNT trinkets, pez dispensers and other miscellaneous rubbish to display behind you when they make the video)... then this could be interesting.

Canadian Turtle
01-22-2009, 08:57 PM
^ THIS IS EXACTLY TRUE! this is NOT a freak show doc at all!

We want to tell the true, very human story of the people who love TMNT. We do like the visual appeal of collections BUT this is not what the documentary is about. We are trying to tell the story of the fans, how TMNT affected their lives no matter how large or small.

freakshow is exactly what we DON'T want. If we did then I might as well shoot my own stuff (which I did on a massive New York city miniature set over Christmas break). What VH1 did with Ivey, is not what we want to do.

This is a positive story about how TMNT is the biggest, best, and most powerful pop culture phenomenon of our time and why we love it so much!

The one thing we do like! is proximity of fans! We will travel anywhere in North America. But the more fans in a particular area the better! You can understand why.

If there are people attending the NYC Comic Con, I will be there shooting TMNT stuff the entire time. If there is anything the fans are interested in doing, a fan party of any type, a fan forum of fans interacting with each other, this is all great and we would love to shoot that.

We are also working on getting as many people creatively involved with the franchise as possible, as well as any material we can use (such as behind the scenes and such) that has not been out there yet.

If there are suggestions, or things that you want to see in there let us know! We will do our best to get them in.

Are you not in the UK? If so I might be able to set something up.

As I have suggested before, having groups of people or fans that know other fans in roughly the same area is a huge help!

Obviously the more fans we can talk to per 'stop' the better! But if you don't know anyone in your area this is still ok, we still want to hear from you!!

Harvest was written, shot, edited, composed, and handed in, in 24 hours for competition. We won audience choice and second place only loosing first because we didn't use one of the provided props.

I am glad you liked it! And I hope you like our Feature Turtle Doc!!

I always had this notion of a normal guy sitting at home watching TMNT with his kid opening and closing the thing. In the end, that's really what it's about, entertaining generations, and symbolising something for everyone.

Eh. I want to agree with you in principle, but really practically the only kind of Eastman & Laird TMNT that still brings me any enjoyment beyond momentary nostalgic thrills... isn't entirely appropriate for children at all (this harkening back to the 80s, early Mirage source material of the TMNT that you'll find many of the cartoon/toy/collector-only diehards seem to want to forget about, or at least put in a place of lesser importance/relevance).

Noone's telling you to keep that opinion to yourself, you can express that in this documentary as a a "purist" view, but we know that, reallisticly, it's become more than the original intent.

How so Andy-Panda?

I helped Brandon Jerwa come up with the general storyline, shot him some ideas, as well as making sure everything gelled with the comic into the larger Highlander continuity of the series.

Brandon and I did a podcast/interview about it here:

I asked fellow Seattleite Andrew Modeen to sort of play devil’s advocate on this project. With so many varying opinions about what established canon is in the Highlander world, I wanted a fan who had a very logical point of view when it came to the lore, and he was the one who seemed to best fit that bill.

While this wasn’t a co-writing situation in the strictest sense, I was very lucky to have Andrew along for the ride. He immediately provided me with all the established information about the Kurgan (drawing heavily from the novelization, and considering things mentioned in the TV show and even in unused script drafts) and we devised a timeline. From there, I wrote the outlines for the two issues and we had a little more discussion, talking about places where Easter Eggs for the fans would work, which other immortals were active at certain times and places in history, and things of that nature. As a sounding board and continuity watchdog, Andrew was completely invaluable.
Pretty sweet, my argumentative acquaintance.

I've been saying for the last couple of years that us UK fans should just get together and meet up somewhere neutral.

SO to address a concern; purists, general fans, toon fans, comic fans, I want the entire TMNT world in this, I will stay true to the people and the history of TMNT, we don't intend on leaving things out based on personal bias. For instance, many people don't like the live show, BUT it will be in there and if we are lucky maybe even some unseen elements from the show and cast.

The UK troop!!! There seems to be a lot of you around over there! Which is sweet! With round trip tickets at $600 its almost worth going just to say hi! That said it is impractical I think. If people are willing to group together bring/shoot video or stills of collections and bring pictures or video from their childhood. Then shooting interviews in the fashion we are intending with more or less the same video format and sending me the tapes would be GREAT! If we can arrange for one of you to be responsible for this shooting to maintain consistant quality and style (someone has come forward) that would be great!! We would love to get as much of a worldly perspective as possible!

Thank you everyone for continuing to support this effort! For the fans by the fans!!

How true.

To me, the thing about... her... is that in a big way, for no reason other than spending every dollar that's ever come her way on TMNT rubbish and doing the occasional bit of dress-up, she has managed to supplant herself as "The Face of TMNT Fandom"... when that's something that couldn't be further from the truth.

And, of course, any person with a shred of selflessness wouldn't allow themselves to become such a "spokesman/poster child" because they would decline invitations so that other, equally-deserving fans could also have a shot at the spotlight.

Sorry, I was not sure if the maker of the thread should ask it to be stuck... I didn't know if that was against the rules. Sorry for asking, but its not showing sticky for me??

In other news the NEW site should be up (I hope) by the end of the day... Why a new site you might ask. Well the producers didn't feel that the current one was professional enough, and lacked fan interaction. There will be a proper blog with space for comments, a comment section for the videos, more videos, etc.

I'll post again when it goes up! Should be cool. It will be the same URL.

I'm not sure if Canadian has found someone yet or not, but in case he hasnt, I'll just throw it out here.

We're looking for an artist to illustrate an online web-comic based on the original series. I'm writing it, and three of the five scripts are written. I had intended this to be illustrated by Raven (he was keeping it hush hush whilst working on Ultimate TMNT), but he's gone AWOL, and the title would have been delayed anyway considering he messed up a few directions I gave him (nothing big), I'm not angry at him or anything, but it was obvious his own projects (which I'm aware he had) were catching up to him, and despite his best efforts, obviously needs to focus on his own career and come back responsibility-free. He's welcome to return to work whenever he does, but it might have to be for something else.

So I need someone who knows how to draw these characters inside and out, an and follow what's in the script. P.M me with an example of what you can do (a group shot, a picture of Irma, a picture of Kerma etc)

Hahaha! No I should have my goofy head on the map.

Well after NYC Comic Con we will start going through our contacts and start making a list. As we narrow down our stops we will post them and see if we can find more people in those areas. We know that people are spread out all over the place, maybe we can find meeting points and people can come to us in certain areas. This works if people are being interviewed without large collections. those we will try to go to if we can. I am glad to see that 'MasterTurtle' has already started this process of networking, this could be a really cool community event where people start meeting up in their areas!

A general comments section has been posted on the site. There are also some new items we are talking about adding on there. Such as a mailing list for people to get updates on the doc, this will also give us an idea of how many people are interested in something like this.

On another note, there was one person who posted a comment JUST before we put the general comment section up. This person posted a reply to the blog section. See who it is!! And no it is not a person posing, because we have been speaking with and hope to be interviewing some of these people.

We are getting more great TMNT people on board everyday! Some creative team members as well! We hope to get as many people from as many different factions so to speak of the TMNT world (i.e. toons, movies, live shows, etc.) As these people start to firm up dates and such I will let you know who we will be getting involved!

Haha, I live in Southern Ontario. Probably the farthest south part of the country. Actually that would be like Windsor or something, but anyways. No I was just being silly.

The North Pole is technically part of Canada when the ice is frozen up there. And then in theory the ice that would cross the top of the earth would connect to land mass in Russia... correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a geologist here.

For everyone else, I will be leaving for New York in about 7 Hours from now, (driving all night). After the Con I will be at Mirage. If people have any cool questions they might want to throw my way, some of which I might add to my interviews there and at the con, this is your chance. Sorry I didn't throw this up earlier, I was crazy busy.

THAT SAID, you still have time to do so before phaze two of the project, during which I should be talking with many other members of the Turtle community (voice actors, more writers, people from the shows and movies, etc.) So if you had questions for them, you can always pass those on to me then.

Hey thanks for checking up!

The doc is alive and well. The truth is we are still hard at work. We showcased a 15 minute sneak peak of a scene at the Toronto Comic Con. We are not actually going to release for a little while, but there might be some cool distribution opportunities coming in the next year or so. I will keep you all posted. There are always new and exciting things going on, I have been cutting some pretty insane stuff that you might lose your shell over, but I can't say to much yet!

Cool cool! Keep and eye out and feel free to follow up any time! As far as help goes, we are always looking for good stories of how Turtles affected peoples lives. We have some great fan stuff and will be getting more, but we are still looking for one hard hitting story to round things off. If anyone knows anyone who had a truly life changing experience involving this franchise, please let us know!

So when is it coming out?

Damn good question.

Not a lot can be said these days. I live day to day in waiting. Things are moving and moving fast, but I can't say much right now.

We want to release in the coming years, even if we got the go ahead right now it would take a little while to get it out the door and not to mention it would be smart to release in conjunction with future movie dates. We have been shooting and working on this thing for almost an entire year now. Most large scale documentaries shoot a 20 to 1 ratio or so, so that means 20 hours of footage for a 1 hour doc. In our case we have well over 130 hours of stuff as well as hundreds and hundreds of images and archived materials (including video) of stuff no one has ever seen before. There are a lot of possibilities with this stuff.

We want to share it with all of you, but we are all crossing our fingers right now.

Thanks for waiting!

You have a good point there.

The history elements are what we have the most of right now. We have enough material to make hour long shows about singular moments in Turtle history (ie movie 1 for example). The problem would be making that all fit into one movie, also the fact that fine details about toy line history going into the nitty grittyness of when and what was produced and based on what, ideas and directions that the original line could have gone in, stuff like that isn't all that interesting to the average passive Turtle fan outside the hard core fandom. That said we could maybe have a special DVD box set or something for the more hard core fan members.

Weapon X

Would you guy's have been able to get access to the unedited version Steve Barron has? That would be awesome to finally see that footage. If you did you probably wouldn't want to ruin the surprise though.

You and me both man hahaha. The fact of the matter is, all the footage exists, we have shot and collected over 130 hours of content and hundreds of archive images so far and have more interviews on the table. I would hope that no matter what happens something of that content will appear somewhere someday for people to enjoy.

Here's something people can throw down on this thread. We appreciate all your kind words and shown support, but as we go into the future of this project we'd love to hear what you guys would want to see in a doc. In a perfect world where everyone could make the final edit what would you want in there? Dream big! Think of it in terms of sections, there are many aspects of the Turtle universe which we have and are yet to cover, and we would like to asses which are most important to focus on. For instance is the live tour something you would want to see behind the scenes off? or are people more interested in the comics or toy beginnings?

Just a fun little thought for people to engage in.

Thanks all

I'm mostly interested in the comics, mainly in the old days when Peter and Kevin where trying to make it into the business, and the times when they were actually drawing. Any footage of the two guys together would be good.

I'd also love to watch something about the Turtles becoming action figures. All the process, and all the stuff in between.

But I have to say, for what you've been showing, that I'm loving it so far. Really, I can't wait to see what you guys come out with.

As for what goes in the doc, it would be cool to see bit of everything, perhaps in different segments or chapters. However, that would probably be faar to long to get released as so. The answer? Lord Of The Rings style 'appendices'. :P

Haha! your all right, I'm surprised no one has suggested movie one, as there isn't anything.

In response to Oculus Orbus I think you will be pleasantly surprised in the amount of what we have in both of what you are talking about. Some of the rarest most exclusive never before seen or KNOWN stuff is in these two sections but more in toys in terms of never before known.

Puppeteer interviews would be great, from TNM, the playmates commercials, movies etc. Costume shop folks aswell. I'd love to see anything involving AC farley but moreso would I like to see frank, erik, gary & andrew (peppoy that is) from the volume 3 series being that they were the only comic guys given the honor of doing non-mirage comics... & for having the balls to mutilate the boys. I want to see you guys get drunk with ernie rays jr as to learn the secret of the booze. Perhaps some psycho cosplayers & the other folks who go to such great lengths to make costumes & stuff. Fans who became part of the franchise, (as maybe me & andrew could be? hurrrr... I'm sure there may be some though. New names to the comic who did little work on tales & such? Maybe those are the write people to approach). Ummmmm... Comentary about the ninja/nunchuk bans. Specific ninja influences like bruce lee. DEFFINATELY would like to see an interview with Stan Sakai, how the ninja turtles influenced him & the success of his comic alike, leading into possible other interviews pertaining to the many many crossovers the turtles had over the years. A segment about prop collecters perhaps? What music/TMNT have to do with eachother like all of the big names who were on soundtracks (& in SOTO) & how music led them to doing the two costumed tours.. maybe unseen stuff from the proposed second CGI film? Bill Murray in a fireman costume. Controversey of any kind involving the turtles (other then said nunchuck/ninja issues, if there are any.) I guess thats it for now, expect me to return with more!

BoggleKng, read the threads before dude hahahah! I posted that we are looking for input as we move forward. We are re-launching the sites and content and moving it over to one of our blog sites. As we do we would like more fans to get involved and help us find what matters most to you as fans. This Doc is what you want to see, and we want to make it the best we can. There is so damn much content already its hard to cut what is in and out.

Anything about the first movie would be great to see.
Would love to hear more about the hallmark mini and other cancelled shows.
The women of TMNT.(ninjara,mona lisa,venus)
The video games.

Guess it would be fun to see interviews with some famous people who are fans(are there any??)

Nothing undeniable, but there was a possible TMNT reference in the first ep of Clerks: The Cartoon, and he went on to voice the chef of Greasy Spoon in the forgettable CGI film. This is just a guess that could very well be wrong.

I def like Powders comment about getting into the minds of the Image writers and artists and finding out the how and why of wanting to physically deform and mutant the turtles.

Perhaps showing off tons of peoples collections. Mine isn't extremely extensive but I have several one of a kind pieces and a large collection of figures since I got when was a youngin.

Some of my favorite stuff to see is original comic pages and drawings and sketches.

Definitely Eric Talbot and his unique drawings and perspective of the turtles. (I think he is def a fan favorite)

P.S. I haven't read through everything so if I am reposting comments please forgive me

Smith and Green are on our list. Seth was lined up and we were actually heading to shoot his interview and a bunch of crap happened I can't get into and it fell through. Nothing on his end, his people were extremely helpful!

Comic origins are a big part so you should see a lot of that!

Fan collections are in there for sure, we have shot some of the biggest and most complete fan collections in the world (as far as we know! haha, and yes that includes Archons!) But we are always interested in new fans, really into good personal stories, and some collections.

We can work with your suggestion lists! Keep em coming!

Gobo, did you not make that exact post over on another thread? hahah.

Define fan creations. Do you mean fan fiction, or art, or videos? How do you see this as a subject in a doc? What to you is interesting about Turtle fans creating their own renditions? I ask these questions totally honestly. I want to know what people find the most interesting about a specific subject.

Gobo, did you not make that exact post over on another thread? hahah.
I actually had the browser open to this thread last night, and when I hit the 'submit' button this morning, it was already split into a seperate, less suitable thread for my post.

Anyway... I'm mostly into the idea of giving some mild promotion to the brilliant young artists who create their own original TMNT works (as opposed to just manipulating preexisting material such as 'toon music videos). Fanfiction is tough to call "original" since they normally follow a preexisting continuity, but I was referring to that as well. However, I don't know the first thing about what all is available (or how easy it will be to avoid NC-1700 material). I hear there's a fan-movie in the works. That should qualify for a mention. There's also this all-inclusive fan-documentary that a bunch of neat stuff is going into. Them peeps deserve a pat on the back too, I guess. :P

I just think Turtle-fans putting their creativity to work is more interesting than the 'biggest collections'. No offense intended, but that's a job better suited for Guiness.

Kinda confused, you mean our fan documentary? The one your messaging about hahah? To be honest the fan section is what I am looking to expand at this point. We have so much of the actual history of the Turtles phenomenon in there already, I want more fan involvement. The fan made Turtle movie is an interesting subject in that regard and we might approach them for a story.

All things considered we are still in development processes, now that the buy out has happened, of course as you all know we have shot the majority of this doc and are looking to you for input as to what you want to see in it. I like this idea of fan created materials, it shows a deep and artistic passion about the subject.

Fan material sounds like a good idea.. you could do artwork, writing, sculptures/customs... there was a fan-dub project that I think Jester and a few were involved in. Maybe you could look into that...?

I'd love to see that kind of thing more than just who's got the biggest collection of ____...

Interesting... hard to keep everyone happy and i dare not ask why hahah.

As for fan created materials, we will keep that in mind moving forward. I would also like to reach out to those people whos lives were touched by the property, people who may not even be "hard core" fans. Especially those who may have received a call or a visit from a Turtle when they were kids possibly when they were sick or at an important moment in their lives. Even where Turtles filled a void in their lives that meant something growing up. These stories can be very touching and wonderful to share. This is not a "who's got a big collection" documentary. This is history and impact, with a ton of the history side! hahah.

I hear that. I've had periods in my life with manic depression & there was a time where my parents came close to splitting up... The tmnt were my pickmeups at those times. Used to ritualistically watch all three movies in a row every sunday with a pizza. I would imagine maybe 40 percent of the die hards have a deeper emotional root with the fandom due to something like that. Archon with his health issues as a child, ivey with being bullied etc.

They couldnt really do anything unless said individual is making a profit or mass producing. Furthermore, major entertainment corporations do not sue for things like that because it A) Is bad PR, and B) is not cost effective.

Heh, I can relate on the whole "filling the void" part, for sure.

The Turtles came into my life at a tumultuous point. My dad was killed in '86 and I was a sickly little boy up till I had my tonsils removed a few months after his passing. I suppose I was an emotionally disturbed kid for a while, due to the events of that time, although one wouldn't notice it outwardly since I was always smiling, laughing and being a kid. And when the mini came out in late '87 I was entranced by these four awesome Turtles! Then of course it almost a year later when the series hit the airwaves.

My mom had surprised one day after picking me up from school with a neat little toy: the Turtlecycle! I loved its design and all of the many details in the toy and was blown away by the artwork on the box. I noticed that the Turtles could actually *ride* the bike so I told my mom I needed them so they could ride it. Mikey was my first figure, and I accidentally broke his nunchuck by swinging HIM round and round until the chuck popped off and he flew across the room! The other Turtles followed shortly after then of course I needed the bad guys to fight. The Shredder was the hardest one to find back then, and we eventually found one at Hill's dept. store. April was the last of the first wave figs that I found, and even then it was the orange stripe version but by gosh I got her! :D

Anyway, to keep from typing up a book and rambling incessantly the Turtles are very special to me because when no one else was there, they were. When you're the little boy who mistreated by his dad and now coping with his death, the Turtles were there to carry me along on an adventure. When you're the smart kid who people make fun of for knowing all of the answers, the Turtles were there to let me know that it was okay to be smart. When you're the kid who sucks at sports, the Turtles were there to show me there were other fun things to do. When you're the chubby kid who still likes the Turtles when Power Rangers and X-Men were "better", the Turtles were still there, fighting with honor.

When I was the kid who no one wanted to play with, the Turtles were always there to play with me.

I always tried to keep up with the Turtles around here by getting the comics whenever I could, and when I saw an ad in the back of Image #3 for the site, the first time I got on the Internet I went straight to ninjaturtles.com! From then on out I was able to keep track of the Turtles, and lurked the Ninja Turtles Mailing list on Yahoo! quite a bit back in the day.

When Peter decided to publish a new book I was elated! Now I could continue with my childhood pals and see how their lives have continued as they've grown.

Now, I look to the future to see what the newest iteration of the Turtles will be. Whatever it is, I'm sure I'll still love it.

Venom, that is such a touching story.

I'm sorry that you had to go through abuse by your father. That is never easy.

As a child of the 80s, I was alone alot in life and had no friends to play with, so I had to entertain myself when I was alone. And when I'd come home from school on one of my worst depressing days, I could always count on the turtles to be there for me to cheer me up. And let's not forget Master Splinter wise words of wisdom.

I especially like this one:

Raphael: (to Donatello) Donatello, you don't suppose that personality modifier of yours is still working?"

Splinter: I see you have already forgotten your lesson. There is room in this world for all types of personalities. Some lighthearted, some serious. Think of how boring it would be if all of us were identical."

Truer words have never been spoken. Which is one of the reason I enjoyed the classic TMNT series more that any of the modern ones. In each of the episodes, not only did the turtles learn something new, but so did the viewers.

Plus, today's cartoons lacked the humor, I loved as a child.

When this so called new TMNT series comes out in 2012, I will give it a chance and see what it's like. I do like that the turtles are still going strong, even after all these years. in 25 more years, the TMNT will have a 50th anniversary if they are still around. I will be 55 by that time.

If there is a 50 anniversary, they need to re-release all the classic TMNT series DVDs with ALL episodes in proper order and include all the ones that are missing in today's season sets.

The Turtles touched many people in many ways, whether it was the comics, the movies, the toys or the cartoon. I remember seeing that first movie, and getting that weird feeling, not knowing if I should be scared or not. When you're a kid and you see these animatronic eyes and you've never seen anything like this before, you don't know what to think. That movie has a dark realistic undertone, which made it more unique to a five year old. I think that made me MORE curious about it. To this day, I love that movie, I watch it regularly and I think they screwed it all up with the sequels. I consider the first a stand-alone movie. They took away that curious strangeness from the first movie, and made the overall tone more friendly and light. They made the whites of their eyes bigger, giving a more cartoon-ish look, they brightened their bandanna colors and the sets. I know the animatronics and the suits were technically superior in the second movie, but give me the first any day. I love that first movie. I also think it was written very well. It's got the basic 'stop the bad guy from stealing' plot, but it's got so many more not-so-obvious messages about teamwork and the importance of family, the importance of controlling yourself and being at peace with yourself.

I love the scene where Leo gets filled with rage after hearing that Splinter is dead, and he rushes Shredder and ends up at the tip of a spear. Raph looks on, and that's just a great scene. A great compare/contrast to those two brothers. You can take so much away from that first movie. It always makes me feel good after I watch it. I'll quit rambling now.

I have a suggestion, I haven't read this thread in a while so I am not sure if its been mentioned. But if you have seen the new documentary Never Sleep Again the Elm Street Legacy I would love if you could fit as much content on here.

Essentially Elm Street Legacy has a 4 hour run time, it has about 30-40 minutes or so on each movie, the tv series etc. It has good pacing and doesn't feel that long. There is also 4 hours of additional bonus stuff on a second disc. I believe you must have lots of footage with all the people interviewed and what not. If it were possible to make it that long and maintain the quality and have additional stuff that would be awesome. Or perhaps a special edition of sorts if there is a more normal run time.

Ill have to look through this thread again a little late, I am still looking forward to this documentary =)

On a side note if there are any Nightmare fans here I couldn't recommend Never Sleep Again enough it was a great documentary so much content as well more than worth the money and shipping online.

Anyways, documentary, YES! you are totally right, we have an insane amount of stuff, the hard part is actually narrowing things down to keep people interested. Nice to hear, I believe I read the Nightmare doc team had 12 hours of interviews left on the floor that didn't make it. As for a new boxed set for the movies I thought they did release a new one it may just be the old boxed set with Jakie Earle Haley's Freddy on the cover (even tho they are the Robert Englund Movies, same with the Blu Ray release of the original Wes Craven Nightmare). http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033B5XCS/?tag=get-amazon-dvd-20

I am not sure if its the same as the original boxed set looks like it same amount of discs and tho it looks like they messed up the run time on amazon for the original (must just be a repackage job) http://www.amazon.com/Nightmare-Elm-Street-Collection/dp/0780626966

I'm not sure when the Remake DVD comes out if that's the one you meant by boxed set of the new movie. Usually I think its about 4 months between theatrical release and dvd. Hopefully they will put some good special features on it and commentary tho it seems some studios are being cheap and not putting together a commentary track (Batman and the New Bond Films I'm looking at you!).

However the Turtles Documentary gets made I will support it. I know a lot of people downloaded the Nightmare one and its made by fans for the fans just like you are doing with the turtles one. Gotta support these otherwise they would never be made and its rare to get good documentaries and I really like the work you guys have shown so far. Good luck with the rest of the film =)

This was all our money out of our pockets, so each person who DL's it is like taking a piece of that cost amount right out of our pockets. I think we have a big time awakening coming. As I understand it companies like MGM are already not making movies for the time being, I am not going to get preachy it's just reality, enough people don't pay for movies, movies don't get made. Simple.

Dudes, I am very glad you guys are still on board with it. Again our sincerest apologies for our extreme lateness and lack of any news or anything new for a very long time. I am just as anxious to let this big Turtle out of the bag soon!

The truth is even if I could say anything there isn't much to report on at the moment. Other than all the content I have eluded to, but can't talk about yet, which is all safely sitting quietly on our collective very full hard drives, the project remains in limbo. Not the kind of limbo where we are scared that it wont come out, it is more a case of when. If you are keeping up with our news you would be aware that our executives that we signed on with late in production are the same producers who are doing the new movie. I'd say watch for our content during the coming Turtle re-birth time, but we know nothing of when or how right now. Keep your fingers crossed and keep spreading the word.

Just a little two cents from me in here: I have noticed a lot of talk on these boards about what us as fans want and what we feel we should get on DVDs and mass releases. The truth is this board and the hard core fans we know represent such a small percentage of what Turtle fan base there is out there. If anything we should be trying to bring far more voices to the table before we ask or say anything to distributors. They really could care less if a hand full of hard core fans want something, they need BIG numbers of people who want a product. So if we want to see products like ours out there or content on DVDs we want to see, we need to be a bigger voice in terms of numbers, not in terms of how often the same 5 people email Nick... just a thought. Keep on keeping on though, it's good that someone is asking the questions, its just how we do it.

^ Well yeah for our purposes it might help to start a facebook page and such. That said, I think you missed the point of my post. I am not suggesting that we bring more people here for the doc. I was referring to posts concerning other TMNT releases out there. We (as in the drome) represents such a small number of fans, you need thousands and thousands of people as part of a fandom message to make any difference in release changes. Maybe we can focus on bringing the millions of other TMNT fans to the site. and help promote the fandom in general. I know the doc in itself will do that, and we have to sell to the millions of other fans out there to make anything back. There simply isn't enough people in the online forum. But you guys are who we are making this for.

And Gobo, I HOPE!! hahaha its sooner than the 2012, but we shall see! hahaha. Crossing fingers.

Well no I can't really say what the "plan" is anymore as I don't actually know at the moment. There are many possibles and a clear direction, but I will wait to report on that.

I would say that it would be silly of us to release independent of Nickelodeon and I would rather not if at all possible, I only hope that in the worst case scenario we still can. Rights are a very very very tricky thing. With Nick we can help spread the history and this amazing story to far more viewers all around the world then we ever could on our own. It makes sense to release it with Nick as they will be able to get it out every where. I know you guys have a tone of content, I hope we will get to see a lot of it. Its very understandable as if it were only sold online and self published or something the sales would be very low. If it comes out with the Turtles relaunch and is in stores with the new stuff theres no better way to do it. My dream Turtle doc would be 4 hours long and then an additional 4 hours of bonus material haha =) I have been spoiled with Never Sleep Again. I am sure either way it will be good and fans will be very greatfull.

Hey, I run Project Twenty1's Philadelphia Filmathon, so I think by the time the doc is done, we'll be starting official selections. We have a lot of TMNT fans here, so I think audiences would appreciate it. Granted, I don't make the official selections (the community does), but I think they would dig it. Bookmark www.ProjectTwenty1.com for next year!!!

that is a cool idea bro!

In our best case scenario we may or may not have the clearance to submit it to festivals ourselves, but we shall see hahah.

I'm glad you guys are still pumped. What is online is such a small example of what is in the doc, again we can't really say or show whats in there yet. The cool thing is, there has been some really good movement with the doc this month, so my guys are working away on some content. We are likely changing up the site and what's on it pretty soon, so most of that stuff will be gone. If all is well this should answer all your burning desires for "behind the scenes" content for everything! But again no promises, just hopes. With over 100 plus hours of footage well over 55 interviews not including con stand ups, and stuff collected and archived some of which that I know for certain all of you don't even know exists in the Turtle verse (yes I mean those who are the most hard core fans) so there should be something in there for everyone, even if you know all about Turtles history already.

Canadian Turtle, I'm sure you've heard this from everybody already, but I just wanted to say, that the stuff you have online already, is stuff I've been dying to see for as long as I can remember. I've been dissapointed with the lack of depth on DVD special features about the Turtles, so for you to put this together, is a dream come true. I hope you get to release it soon! So excited to check it out!

This looks amazing, the trailer has me all hot and bothered!

I would gladly pay $20 or more for a copy of this on DVD; it's obviously a labor of love, and it looks to be shaping up as the most comprehensive celebration [shellebration? :trazz:] of 25+ years of TMNT we fans have ever seen. Why wasn't something like THIS included as an extra on Turtles Forever?!? :tgrumble:

Anyway, keep up the great work... and don't keep us waiting TOO long... the anticipation is already killing me!

Hey peoples!

Glad to see people are "remembering" this thing is going on hahaha. I have to be honest I shiver ever time I hear someone say they have seen the trailer online, but not in a good way. That thing is SO old and NOT AT ALL a representation of what is in this thing! hahaha. That was pre graphics pre overall look pre good interviews and doesn't include all the exclusive stuff! The site itself isn't even a representation of the "look". We simply can't show you anything yet.

There is a TON of politics behind this beast, although it is still ver much a "labour of love" but has become much much more. It wont likely be a festival piece, if it makes it out, it will be in some "official" type of way, so I will keep you posted as I can, or keep watching for news of it elsewhere.

Just heard about this today. Even if the trailer isn't very representative of how things are shaping now, it looks kick aaaaayyyyyussse! I like all the clips of interviews in it, especially watching the voice actor of Krang do his voice, ha ha. I hope for an eventual DVD (Blu-ray?) release, that trailer is included as an extra, especially if a lot of that footage doesn't get used in the final product.

Hope this goes well for you guys. :) I love these kinds of documentaries, like The King of Kong and The Rock-afire Explosion—except this looks waaaaaaay less nerdy and instead really cool.

Edit: I shouldn't say "these kinds of documentaries," since filming/editing style can be so different, but rather I like these kinds of subjects for documentaries: '80s/'90s pop culture stuff.

By the way, that artwork on the site and used in your sig, Canadian Turtle, is really cool. I actually stumbled across it on deviantART during a Google search a couple weeks ago and thought it was cool, and was pretty excited to see it used in a project like this. Would love to have a super-high-res image of it to save on my HDD, if possible. (The image I have saved is only 600 pixels wide.)

hahah nice Andrew! We only got that one clip of you at the movie thing. I think that clip was used in the video that was on the TMNT25 website that we did about the bus tour a while back.

Things are still rolling along with the doc. We did another interview in NYC a couple weeks ago, first Turtle Doc related shoot in a while. Things slowed down after the big buy out, but it still looks good! Obviously its more of a scenario where we can't say much anymore, so this is why I have not been responding to as many emails and such. But no worries! Once things start rolling faster again I'll keep all the suggestions and ideas in mind, but we shall see what happens I guess. Keep em coming!

Thanks all for your kind words and patience! Believe me I want this out there as much as you want to see it!

No updates on this in a month, and the site still has the same stuff on it for at least the last month as well! So basically I'm wondering is this documentary still being created or whats up with it?

Canadian Turtle
12-27-2010, 06:54 PM
^ The short answer... yes this doc is still being created. I know there are a few threads out on the drome about this doc, and I have said more or less the same thing on them now, for like a year. That site should have been taken down a year ago, but things have been busy else where, sorry about that.

The truth is, as I've said before we have nothing to report at this time, nor do we have permission to do so. Our doc was shot primarily during the time leading up to the sale last September. Around that time we signed with the executive producers of the new TMNT movie. They are our Execs on the doc now. Since then we are on hold, but still working away. Just this past October I was in NYC during the con, and got a very special doc interview (outside of the con), so this thing is still very alive. Cutting has been happening, but slowely. There is such a MASSIVE story to tell here and we collected more material than we know what to do with, so we are waiting and working hard to bring this massive story to all of you. Don't loose faith, I know a lot of fans on here have more or less forgotten this thing ever happened, all I can say is, hold on to your hats when it hits the screen!

Thanks for being patient!

Canadian Turtle, I submit some pictures of my TMNT escapades throughout my youth to you guys around the time of the 25th anniversary bash. I remember sending them to you because somewhere there was mentioned the possibility of a fan collage of TMNT related photos. Any idea if you'll notify people if their pic is in there, or will we all just be surprised?!

A follow up question to DonnyTMNT, is it too late to send in stuff?

Canadian Turtle
02-18-2011, 07:28 PM
To answer both your questions, I don't know what we will use and what we wont use, there is no promises, and I am not totally sure who will be in charge of the final edit in the end. As for submitting new stuff, its never to late. Sadly any promise of cover submissions has changed course after the buy out, but content, old photos, video, and stories are great! Thanks for staying in touch and staying interested, I am sorry to all of you that we can't really say or show anything, and haven't been for like a year. It kinda pisses me off because it lost a lot of momentum and fans over the time that things have been slow.

hi isaac and other members as well!
my name is marcel and I specifically came to be a member of the technodromeforums last night after seeing your interview on youtube(well...or rather hearing it...)....I have always been the only guy I know who was influenced in that way by the ninja turtles toys card board art(do you say 'card board art' anyhow?the package of the figures is what I am talking about..)
I am living in munich, germany and growing up my family and me went on vacation to italy or spain during summer and it was just such an exciting time to experience all these ninja turtles toys on litteraly EVER corner;)....I still sometimes think back on the excitement I felt when touring the shops and see all these different figures that you never saw anywhere else again and the package always made that extra impact on me, the art was terrifc, man!!...anyway, I only wanted to share that with you and say my blessings for your project!I am a comic book artist(or struggeling to be payed for that someday..)and if there is any way I can contribute to your documentary let me know, it would be wonderful to be a part of that project...
I also hope there will be a dvd of it some day and it features all this extra fotage that you are going to cut out of the final product.
