I know there are TF collectors out there. Where are ya? :P

I would say half of my toy collection (in space at least) is made up of Transformers. Now, I'm a Beast Wars fan, so I've never been big on cars and jet transforms (though I far from hate them). Eitherway, it's a good time for TF fans right now. There's the movie and it's sequel (first trailer will be shown during the superbowl :D) and Animated, which is a great show. Plus, it's the 25th anniversary, which is something Hasbro does greatly.

I am a HUGE Starscream fan. He is the MAN. I also love the new Transformers Animated show.

I forgot to mention that I only have about 40 G1 Transformers in my collection but I do have almost every movie transformer that has been made.

I normally don't liked Starscream, but he's awesome in Animated. He also has one of the best figures of Animated (also a first for Screamer, imo).

You have more than me. I have maybe 15 G1 figures if you don't count Micro Masters or World's Smallest TFs. I rarely can bring myself to get figures with so little articulation.

but I do have almost every movie transformer that has been made.
Even the horde of repaints? I got one of every character in the movie. Sadly, I'm kind of sick of the movie line from all the "look at the new tiny diffence" repaints...and they're doing the same for TF2.

I've seriously lost count on all the TFs I own.

My recent acquisitions are the Henkei versions of Hound w/Ravage and Cyclonus w/Nightstick. Both are incredibly awesome. Hound review up on Figured Out this Friday and hopefully Cyclonus this weekend.

No, you got me there. I don't have very many of the repaints. I have always despised repaints, its kind of like when a production company releases 5 different versions of one film. It just plain sucks and I choose not to double dip.

I was pretty big into TF before the Turtles and continued a little after they hit. Anyway I've got quite a big collection spanning several iterations, mostly Gen 1 & 2. I have lots of the micromaster figs, even the Rocket Launcher base, Pretenders (wasn't that their name?), the big plastic human shell that hid a robot inside, Headmasters, some weird line that were different monsters (vulture, goblin, green alien monster, etc) that had a minibot inside and they would all combine into a bigger figure, the TF action figures that didn't transform but were poseable....anyway, I can't possibly list them all but those are just a few of what all I do have.

They brought me great joy as a kid and I had good times battling it out alongside the Autobots and Decepticons! I have toyed with the idea of selling them, though. If I had to choose between TMNT or TF, the TF would go lol!

Action Masters are the non-transforming ones. I assume you mean the awesome Countdown Rocket base. That thing is great. Speaking of, Countdown is about to get a new toy. It's a repaint of Cybertron Defence Red Alert. What makes it neat is the alt mode is painted to look like the folded Rocket Base (Which fits because Red Alert carries a huge nuke) and all the bot parts are painted to look like Countdown. It looks better than it sounds.

You'd proabably get a lot more money that way to.

Just wondering... Is anyone here trying to avoid potential spoilers for the upcoming Revenge of the Fallen film?

If yes I put this tidbit under a spoilers banner and also because I've never used it before ;). Some of the toys do leak certain stuff about the film that some might not want to see (I've had to tread on eggshells elsewhere see).

There are two versions of the Constructicons toys. One set that combines, but are just the vehicles, and the other set are separate non-combining but with robot modes.

No. That first film made me want to KO everyone in the theater (http://www.scary-crayon.com/spectare/tfbay/), so I have absolutely no interest in seeing this film -- and with the price hike on deluxe TFs, I now have no interest in owning any of the movie toys either. So please, spoil away. ;)

The only good thing from the price increase is that TMNT figures start looking cheap again. The price increase makes me so mad too. Deluxes have been $10 (give or take on cents) for 13 years.

On a side note, I'd rather get more Animated figures than most of the TF2 figures shown.

I thought that repaint looked pretty sick, personally! Not $13 sick, but if it were $7-10 I could see picking it up -- even though I'm not the hugest fan of the original mold. I do like Soundwave's ankles, though.

Naff! LOL -- you and your British slang. ;)

But yeah, Universe Ironhide isn't the greatest. For the $7.77 I paid for him back during the holidays he's okay, and in robot mode he does pose quite well, but at the current prices I wouldn't even bother. Nor will I be bothering to pick up a Universe Ratchet (I kinda wish I'd waited for that one instead, though I wouldn't pay $13 for it either). Really, you only need one version of this mold at the absolute most.

Hero
02-22-2009, 07:55 AM
I agree that Ironhide does pose well. Shame he keeps unclipping in half at the waist and the vehicle mode is a mess. I'm glad I didn't get the Henkei version now.

The best part of the figure is the head.

Henkei Cyclonus and Hound remain my two favourite toys of 2009 thus far.

Anyone want to give me some advice?

I'm thinking of getting Voyager Grimlock.

I found him and thought coo but passed on it, it was $14. But then over at /toy/ they highly recommended him to me and said he was a $22 figure.

I am not really a transformers fan though, I was too old for the original series, though I really liked Beast Wars as a kid but haven't watched it since. I did catch a few episodes of Animated and thought they were alright, nothing special.

The thing that has me thinking about it though is I bought a cybertron Beast Wars Megatron figure on sale for $4 about a year ago. I was so excited and I hated it, transforming him was a huge pain and he didn't really look that good. I was very disappointed and I ended up selling him for the same 4 dollars I payed. I do regret selling him now though especially if I buy grimlock. But yeah I don't want to spend $14 and to be just disappointed again though maybe this could be the figure that makes me get into transformers....

Oh yeah and Voyager Grimlock is better than activator Grimlock right?

Hope I didn't go overboard with my dilemma over buying a toy

If you liked Beast Wars, I recommend getting the 25th Dinobot instead. He's the Dinobot that fans have been wanting for years for. He's as show accurate as you can get without going up to a Leader Class or higher. The only things wrong with the US release is the colors are very off and the sword is werid (due to being a missile). The Henkei (Japanese) fixes the colors so they are show accurate too.

Here he is in the US colors (which are very off, but I assume you don't want to import).
http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByBrand.htm?BR=496&SBR=695&ST=SO&ID=23898&PG=1

And here's the Henkei (just to show how accurate it is):
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/Dinobot.JPG

Anyways, I thought Animated Grimlock was one of the most disappointing Animated figures (along with Snarl/Slag). He ain't bad by any means, just simple and nothing great. If you want an Animated toy and you want a beast alt mode, I think he's the best though. If alt mode doesn't matter, try Soundwave, Jazz, Shockwave or Starscream (something I rarely say about Starscream). All of them are great. Soundwave comes with Laserbeak and Laserbeak is a guitor. He's made to be able to play it. Jazz is super poseable and has nunchucks. Shockwave is a quad-changer and disguise himself as and Autobot. Starscream is just a good figure.

Let's see, I have pictures of two of them...

Slag just can't take many good poses. The style is cool looking, but he's nothing special. Swoop is the best of the 3. I'm impressed by his beast mode, but like Grimlock, his bot mode is to simple. Still, I like them, I just think Hasbro phoned in on these 3 because they knew they'd sell from just being the Dinobots.

That Dinobot looks kinda crappy to me, but maybe that really is how he looked on the show. I never watched Beast Wars.
First, watch Beast Wars. It is one of the best animated shows of the 90's. Right up there with Batman and X-Men. The last 5 episodes of Season 2 (I like calling them the Toonami) are arguebly the best Transformers have ever had. Watch it. It's worth it.

Beast Machines (the direct sequel to BW) is also very well made. However, TF fans hate it because it's like the Fast Forward of Transformers. The characters change without warning and it ruins some fan favorites (including mine). Still, it is a good show, just needed some tweaking.

Here's the best full body shot I could find (From "Code of Hero." Again, watch BW :P):
http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/4/40/BWDinobot_decision.jpg

Here's the original toy:
http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/f/f8/BeastWars_Dinobot_1996_toy.jpg
Not bad, but far from what it should be.

Here's a non-photoshoped picture of the US version (Damn Hasbro and their photoshoped pictures).
http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/8/81/Dinobotuniversedeluxe.jpg
It's not perfect, but it'd have to be a Masterpeice to be even close seeing as the CGI model from the show defies physics and he needs to cheat on some parts (this one even does it) like MP Prime cheats with an extra grill.

I'm waiting for the purple Shockwave. :)
I'm sure a lot are and I like the colors. If it wasn't so much, I'd get him and use my other one as Longarms. Eitherway, I like Animated and I go for the in show colors.

Shame that Animated Goldfire Grimlock was cancelled. :(
I don't think it the figure has been caneled, just the assortment. Arcee and Soundblaster were reassorted into different wave, thus looking caneled for a bit until they said otherwise.

Also, I've never been a fan of repaints. They clog the shelves far to much. The only thing I hate is when they make tiny changes and call it a day. That said, Gold Paint Syndrome Grimlock is different enough to be cool, but I'm sure it will be a clogger since everyone wants what's in the show.

Anyways, I just got Animated Jetfire and Jetstorm. Definitely not the best figures they're made, but not the worst (Then again, I like every Animated figure. Even Slag, whom I'm not the biggest fan of). Their pretty much the same, but I like Jetstorm better. The head is smaller and doesn't get in the way as much. I'm still not sure what they transform into. All I know is I never want to say their combined jet mode again (It's wrong sooooo many levels). Their Bot combined mode is cool and probably the best combiner we're getting this year. Came with a comic and unlike other TF comic tie-ins, this is easily canon. Very nice comic at intros the characters and sets them up for next season. If Animated continues like it should, I see Flame On and Ice Up variants in their future.

The most common are Ravage (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Decepticon/Ravage/ravage.htm), Laserbeak (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Decepticon/Laserbeak/laserbeak.htm), Rumble (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Decepticon/Rumble/rumble.htm), and Frenzy (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Decepticon/Frenzy/frenzy.htm)

Henkei :). So far I've been really happy with the Henkei versions of the figures to buy the 25th Universe ones, although Cyclonus I will gladly own both versions of.

It's a shame that. We have Roadbuster Ultra Magnus toys here shelf warming. We're not getting a UK release of the original apparentley.

I like every Animated figure too, despite some quality issues I've had in the past with loose joints, broken limbs (see the Shockwave entry on Figured Out) and parts that stick. Some super-glue, a small file and patience can make the difference though.

What keeps me interested is the concept. There is a whole back catalogue of different Transformers types that can be brought under one umbrella with one remediating style that blends it all in nicely. I'm also happy to hear that Blackout will likely still be going ahead as a toy.

I did pay up for a Jetfire/Jetstorm through an Australian friend months ago when they first surfaced in TRU Oz. Sadly, it seems that friend took my paypal money and ran for the hills. I hope to get a Safegaurd set at somepoint though, as the 2 pack looks like a real blast to own. Maybe it will be bargain bucket stock later on.

Is it true that the Headmaster head from Leader-Class Bulkhead is usable with Sentinel Prime too?

Wes

I think the Headmaster is usable with all of the leaders, but I think the sound/light features only work with Bulkhead. Don't quote me on that, though!

Blade Raider
03-02-2009, 03:57 PM
Headmaster plugs into all Leaders (Bulkhead, Megs, and Magnus), but as Wes said, only has sound on Bulkhead (The other 2 have their normal effects).

Sentinel Prime is sadly very tiny. In fact, he's one of the smallest TFA figures. You can put Headmaster on him, but it's really loose and little oversized. I pulled out Sentinel to pose with the twins, so I took this picture:

Wouldn't have mattered, Leozack and Skyquake are at con figures.

To be honest, I hate all the Botcon figures we've seen so far. Kup's mold doesn't even fit him. Scourge would have made a better Cyclonus. The new heads terrorable (well, Kup's is okay if you keep in mind that this is a young Kup, but still...). Then Leozack and Skyquake use a mold I just plain hate. I'm glad I can't go this year.

Neat, I'm looking forward to the Scouts more than the main movie figures. However, I'm loving the Wheelie and Jetfire. Their hilarious looking. Wheelie's an R/C car that looks like Johnny 5 on crack and Jetfire is a senile old man complete with cane and an awesome Blackbird mode. Back on Scouts, I'm getting most of them for alt modes alone. I remember that, Hero! That seems like a really weird break.

I went to the local Target (I got these at another, less convenient location) to see if I could replace Shocky with another version, but no dice -- our store either didn't have any or was already sold out. Sucks! I'll hang onto this one until I can exchange it... or, if I can't find a replacement, I'll decide whether I want to return it or just keep it.

I'm not even all that keen on the toy itself -- even before I notied the missing piece, I was kinda offput by the flimsy, spindly legs (they seem to be begging for a break) -- but it's freaking purple Shockwave. Must have. :(

So I lucked out, found some purple Shockwaves at the local Target, and was able to exchange my defective one for a new one... which, owing to one of its elbows being pinned backwards, is also defective. Why universe hate Wespinator?

Oh, you might as well call it done, since I'll probably never open it again.

I'm going to start calling you Defect Wes. :P

But seriously, if the defect is a problem (I'm not sure what you mean by the backwards oin, it could be nothing to ruins the figure), take it back today and get another one while they still have some. Then look at all of them BEFORE you buy it. You owned this figure twice now, so you should be able to check the Con mode for defects before you buy it. While the head flap may be hard to see, just about everything else that can go wrong can be seen with ease.

Whatever the case, loosen the screws next to the bot hands (con thumbs). They made those ball joints out of soft plastic (at least on the grey ones) and the factories tightened those screws so much that they risk tearing the hand. It's the only major design flaw of the figure.

Well, the head flap was easy enough to see once I knew I should be looking for it -- but since I didn't expect that I'd need to inspect the entire figure for flaws, I wasn't looking for anything else except paint issues.

The problem is that the elbow piece is pinned backwards -- or he might just have two left arms (with right and left Longarm hands). Whatever it is, the right arm only bends backwards at the elbow, which is a problem for posing as well as transformation since the arm piece sticks out farther in one direction than the other.

In any case, I don't have time to be running back and forth to Target every night -- the earliest I'll be able to get back there is next week, when I'm pretty sure they won't have any more. Here's hoping I'm wrong, but if not... well, that's $26 I'll get to keep.

If it makes you feel better, my brother is out of a Samurai Prowl because of bad QC. The point is, QC is getting bad all around, it's not just your crappy luck. Also, but store exclusives tend to have worse QC for Transformers. I'm not sure why that is though.

Anyways, Samurai Prowl is awesome!

The traffic light is a flail weapon. I think it's going on the idea of ninjas (and Jackie Chan :P) can make weapons out of anything. I think it's neat and just one of those little cool things that isn't ruined by Hasbro trying to hard (i.e. they didn't shove a missile launcher in it). Anyways, Samurai Prowl does not come with the traffic light and the Mecha Stars he comes with don't open, so those are from the first release.

So, all of the Botcon set figures have been unveiled here:
http://www.botcon.com/BotCon09/figurePRE09.cfm

I'm not impressed by any of them. They've really dropped the ball since the Beast Wars set (Btw, I don't care for Seekers, hence why I say the BW set was the best). The ones with new heads look bad or off and the others are from trying to hard (i.e. Landshark) to who the hell is that (i.e. obscure characters, though those I welcome those most of the time). Landshark could have been so cool, but he's just a Roadbuster with another name.

EDIT: Oh, BBTS has Dinobot in stock now!

You don't care for SEEKERS?!?!? Man! I'm a bit sad that the TFA ones don't have any coneheads among them, since I would have been all about those. Ramjet is lonely.

I finally got a non-defective Shockwave... woo. You know, I really wasn't that enamored with the first figure even before I discovered his missing hood, but after this ordeal I find that I really like him! Especially since I'm digging the hybrid G1-esque robot mode that is Longarm with Shockwave's head/arms. I wish I had some kind of blaster on a balljoint -- I'd replace the left hand with a smaller, more appropriate blaster and he'd be perfection itself. :)

Glad to hear you like him. Btw, those colors may show up in the show soon...Derrick Wyatt's been screwing with fans today with a picture that has "some" characters that show up in the show and the rest or unused/fake designs. Purple Shockwave is in the picture.

I miss spoke. I meant to say I don't care for the CLASSICS Seekers. By that I mean two things. 1) I hate the Classics mold. I really do. Great alt mode, but the bot mode sucks. The Coneheads are better, but I only wanted Thrust...who they made wrong. 2) Aside from Starscream, The G1 Seekers have absolutely no personalty whatsoever. They're nobodies.

Anyways, I like the idea of Seekers and love the Animated ones, you know the ones with personalties (Okay, their all Starscream, but still more than the G1 versions have!). I also love the Starscream mold (A first for me). However, anything over $10 is not a troop builder in my book. I will not get anymore Seekers unless their Activators or smaller. These are the only "in show" figures I currently refuse to get.

Oh, and while on TFA, I got the accessory pack coming along with Henkei Dinobot :D

I disagree with that! Of course, it could be that I hung around the Seibertron forums for too long and ended up reading some of the Dreamwave (I think?) comics (as well as the fan comics that routinely appeared over there), but I ended up convinced that the Seekers have quite a bit of personality to go around. And I do like the classics mold quite a bit. I didn't like that my Starscream lost a piece of plastic around one of his foot-wing hinges (I've since taken to using Energon Energon Starscream as my default SS), but I love Skywarp. I'd have loved Thundercracker too, I'm sure, but since they didn't make him a non-exclusive I've taken to using the gargantuan movie version in my display. I do like the variety, though.

Given how much trouble mine has standing (even after I used superglue to give her ankles more support) and how the skirt limits the leg articulation, I wouldn't use that figure as a base for anything! And she's not that hard to find if you grab her in a 4-pack -- I've seen quite a few of those at TRU in recent weeks.

Anyway, regarding Shocky, it turns out that initially getting a defective one turned out to be lucky -- whereas I got that first Shockwave over two weeks ago, the replacements were well within the 14-day window that Target has for sale price adjustments. And lo, those 2-packs are on sale for freaking $4.99 this week! So I got $21 back and snagged an extra set (as well as Sunstorm, who suddenly became more appealing to me) for $5 each. Sweeeeeet.

I've read the DW run and they aren't much in regards to the Seekers unless you count Sunstorm (who I hate and is retcon and not a Classic character). I think you're thinking of the IDW run. The Seekers there have more character, but nothing that really stands out (aside from maybe Ramjet). That said, I'm sick of Furman and I pretty much quit reading after Spotlight Arcee.

Haven't seen them sense the last Botcon I went to. You should've have much problem finding some.

ROTF stuff hit. It's a mixed bag.
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/ToyCollection/ROTF01.JPG

Soundwave's made of so many panels that I came up with this...
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/ToyCollection/ROTF02.JPG

http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/ToyCollection/ROTF03.JPG

Dirt Boss. Awesome, love the fork tonfas. I got him mostly for the forklift mode (a mode not seen sence GoBots), but he's a great little figure and fun to play with. I'm not a fan of the colors though. The neon greenish-yellow is just a little to much like late G1 for my taste.
4.5 out of 5

Depth Charge (not picture, not sure why...). Great figure. Has a great design that's unique and is an alt mode that you don't see often. Nice blue colors. Plus, I like the idea of this character (somewhat like Prowl from G1) and it's a good name.
5 out of 5

Sideswipe. Very nice. Nice colors, but nothing that "wows." What does "wow" is the legs. They have a look to them that's very robotic and car like with piston details all over. At first glance the hip appears to have a limited range of movement, but the pistons around the hip are rubber and made to move anyway needed. The knees have a more normal piston design, but they will also move the knee caps when bent. It's a great effect. Aside from that, the head looks awesome and new. Kind of has a geled backed spiky hair look to it (think anime here)...just as a robot. He has some great weapons, swords, and the range of movement lets you get some good poses. In fact, it kind of forces you to. That's the only downside to the figure, he has tiny feet. This makes him hard to balance but once you get the hang of it, it's only a minor problem.
4.9 out of 5

I might mini-review the others later, but Soundwave's at least a 4 and Leader Prime...well, let's just say I want to know what 4th dimension Hasbro think it's in.

I'm a pretty big Transformers fan but I haven't had my heart in it for a while now. I stopped buying Animated but I've been picking up most of the classics. I passed on Dinobot and Cheetor even though I love Beast Wars because they looked awful, but Henkei Dinobot looks great!

I really enjoyed the first TF movie line, I think for the most part it's one of the most solid overall TF lines ever. Sure there were a couple non fan favorites, but I don't think there was really one awful figure. So far the TF2 line has half a dozen, and that's just the first wave. Arcee/Chromia are beyond awful. The constructicons look pretty bad too. And wheelie?! Agggh.

Blade Raider, I didn't understand your comment about Leader Prime. Does that mean you like him? He looks far better than the first movie's Leader Prime which I still think is one of the best figures I've ever bought, so I'm excited to get him eventually. Leader Megs looks much better this time around too.

So far I've only picked up one figure though, Skids. Skids and Mudflap seem like they'll be the comic relief for the movie, but I love their heads -- they remind me of Gremlins or something. I can't wait to get their combiner ice cream truck mode too.

Animated is awesome and the best line since BW/BW Neo, imo. I can understand why you passed on Cheetor. That bot mode really does ruin a lot. I recommend Dinobot even if you can only get the US version, but the Henkei is far better looking.

Really? I thought the first movie was one of the biggest mixs of good and bad figures they've made. Honestly, aside from Landmine and maybe Ironhide or Wreckage, not a one of the figures would make my top 100 TF list. Half of them don't have very good locking in one mode or the other and the automorphing can easily get out of wack on some (I practically had to take my Blackout apart because of this). Do note that I didn't bother with the Leader Class because a sequel was insured by the time I could get them (plus, I had been turned off by past experiences). The only one I regret not getting is Leader Brawl. I don't hate the line, but it ain't high on my best toyline list. It's above Armada, Beast Machines, and maybe Energon.

I didn't get Leader Prime because he look to chucky and my already stated knowledge of a sequel.

Anyways, see the blue shoulder panels? They get in the way every second. It needs an extra hinged or ball joint so it can more out of the damn way. It's not just in bot mode either. Those panels are the front doors to the truck and those gray cylinders go right in front of the doors where the hood (on the forarms in bot mode) meets the cab. The red parts below the windshield on the chest in bot mode lock into an area between the elbow and forarms (I'll call this part "windshield"). This sounds all good, right? Well, to lock the windshield in the arm, you must lock the doors and cylinders inplace as well. However, the hood can not be locked in order to lock the windshield as the connection point is right under it. At this point, the hood parts are just hanging off the arms while everything else is locked in. The problem with that is the hood is on the wrong side and would have to pass through the cylinders in order to lock into place behind them. Hence, working in a 4th dimension. There's a way to get him to work, but I do not believe it's good for the toy as it puts strain on the joints that hold the windshield parts to the chest in bot mode.

To add insult to injury, Hasbro left out a few important steps (mostly that the hood peices slide foward on the pins to get them ready for the above mesh and how to disconnect the windshield from the torso), the swords are huge and on hair triggers and their trying to flip out the whole time you're meshing with the 4th dimension, and the voice box will trigger like 20 times before you're done.

Aside from all this, he looks glorious. There's very little that can be done to make him better looking. Aside from the door panels getting in the way, he has a good range of movement in bot mode, though some will be mad that he lost the finger joints from the prototype. Alt mode is great to look at too. The details on this mold are great too. If you look closely, there's parts on the inside of the upper arms that move with the lower arm (think of the movie Scorponok). Also, ignoning the problem, the transformation rivals that of a Masterpeice. The legs alone are 2/3 of the alt mode and it look impressive mid transformation when Prime's doubled in height. He transforms almost exactly like the CGI model with only a few tiny cheats. Everything does lock very well into place in both mode except the sword (of course). He has 3 sounds. "I am Optimus Prime" (no duh, wish he had more lines), a "racing truck" sound (that's hidden by Hasbro), and the old transforming sound when you disconnect/connect the waist.

Overall though, he's not worth the price of a Leader. The problems are far to big to ignone and most all of them could have (and should have been) fixed with one more part (and maybe one more pin) that would have gotten the damn part out of the way when transforming and posing. He's better than my Mega class one, so I'll keep him (and his box) and see if they do a fix or better one within the year. If you can get it on sell, clearence, or a gift card (like I did :P), then he's worth around $25-30.

3-4 out of 5 (I'm still am mixed on the score).

Their making a Human Alliance Skids, Arcee, and Mikaela 3-pack, so I'm skipping both of those Deluxes. The ice cream truck is one of the many "had me at alt mode" that this line has. On it are Forklift (got), Sleath Boat (got), Bi-plane (got), ice cream truck, microscope, R/C car, and finally a toaster. God, I want that toaster. Think I forgot one or two.

Jimmy christmas, that took forever.

What I meant to say is that the first movie line's worst figures are still better than average figures from other lines. A figure like Swindle may not be a fan favorite but he's got a realistic and cool alt mode and his robot mode is highly articulated and has cool new features (gut gun). Concept Bumblebee is definitely in my top 5 favorite Transformers, and he looks far better than the new (though more movie accurate) RotF Bumblebee. I can think of plenty of all around stinkers in some of the lines that are considered better like Cybertron (Backstop just blows chunks!). The first movie line isn't my favorite, I just think it's the most solid. It may not have all the best figures but it doesn't come close to having the worst.

And I guess I just realized how great the first movie line was when I saw these new RotF movie figures in person. For example compare the first movie Arcee (who wasn't even in the movie) to the new Arcee. It's like night and day. So far the only figures from the new movie line that look better than the original are Leader Prime and Megatron.

I'm not a fan of BW Neo at all. Shell formers and tons of kibble aren't really my thing. Some of the alt modes were cool but that's usually where it ended for me. I dropped Animated mostly due to financial reasons, but while it had some neat figures there was nothing that blew my mind. I prefer the cartoon to the toys any day. I'd say my favorite lines are Alternators, Masterpiece, and Classics - not necessarily in that order.

Thanks for the low down on RotF Leader Prime but some people on some TF forums totally sold me on him. Hopefully I'll be able to fix some of those problems you brought up.

I just got him yesterday. He has Alternator like problems (Like the Leader Prime, but far less as bad). I like him. He's huge though so I might get a Legends Wheelie if they make him.

Also recently got Ravage, Stratosphere, TFA Purple Shockwave, TFA Sunstorm, and TFA Cliffjumper (FINALLY!).

Stratospere. This guy is awesome just form the sence of scale. If you put this guy on Micro Machine scale (the closest scale he fits into), then he's huge. The Prime is tiny, smaller than WST Prime. Stratospere's a blast to pose to. He looks like he'd have balancing problem, but the way the legs are made makes it easy. I just wish he had the shuttle gun he was surppose to have. Oh well, I guess Energon Starscream's sword/gun has a new owner. Legends Devestator will go great with him.

Ravage. I want him in blue with black, white, and gold detailing. He reminds me so much of the Blade Liger from Zoids (with the booster upgrade). Anyways, he's awesome. I'm liking the alt. mode more than I thought I would. I've gotten almost every Ravage and he's one of the best. The 2nd Alternator is still my favorite.

The TFA figures leave me only needing 1 figure (Skywarp). Yay!

First pic is Ravage in "Blade Panther AB Mode" and the 2nd is just for fun.

Re: an earlier post. Sideswipe is hugely let down by his standing issues. I hope something comes out to help this or an improved mould is released.

I'm curious about Stratosphere :D He looks pretty decent. I may get him possibly. My next figure is likely going to be Ransack as I've heard a lot of positive stuff about this toy despite the fragility issues with the scout-class toys.

I also have a spare Energon Starscream gun and missiles if you want them.

And speaking of which, I'm looking into advertising all my spare parts and peices that may help those looking to complete loose figures or making customs. I mean weapons and limbs basically. I think a trading station of somekind will save collectors spending an arm and a leg for an arm and a leg :P.

Both good figures. Stratosphere doubles in awesome if you like MicroMasters/Minicons/WSTFs/Mirco Machines/Mini Mutants/etc. Now, if money is no object, I suggest getting the Japanese version because he comes with a gun that transforms into a space shuttle. Hasbro sadly cut it and I can't aford to import this time. Ransack's a lot of fun if you like alt modes you don't see everyday. I think this is where the ROTF line is it's best.

Speaking of Mini Mutants, I have a Don driving Dirt Boss while carrying some Indy crates. It's awesome.

I also have a spare Energon Starscream gun and missiles if you want them.
It's not like my Screamer is using them (you see, I hate Energon Starscream, it's a trend with me :P). Besides, Stratosphere doesn't hold them as well as I thought.

Only green "dino" I know that comes with anything close to an "allspark key" is Cruellock from Energon and he comes with an Energon Star/Chip. Also, there's a crap load of Ravages.

Soundwave is a great figure, although I think the paint scheme could be better. The Ravage missile looks a little like something from Soho 'retail outlet', but don't let it put you off.

Soundwave's robot mode kind of looks a bit Shredder-like too. I predict some fan customs down the line.

It is a shame that Soundwave stayed in his alt-mode during the movie, considering he was a Triple changer - a gimmick that should have been shown off more in the film.

It's been offical in Japan for some time. It has a new gun made out of the cylinders on his bac (while is where they come from in the movie, fyi) and a head with a mouth. Hasbro hasn't yet made the US release offical, but give it time and they will double dip. I personally am peeved because I don't want a mouth and I flat out refuse to buy more than one of such and expensive toy. If I buy it, I'm returning my old one first.

Look up Buster Prime on Tormers or TFW2005 and scans of Japanese magizines should show up.

Transformers is one of my favorite series! I am mainly a G1 man & I collect loose. Mostly my collection consist of Decepticons. My favorite being Soundwave. I also like Shockwave, Devastator, Bruticus, Reflector, & of course Megatron! Here at my house we loved ROTF! Even better than the first just hope Soundwave has a bigger role in the 3rd film! I also loved the new animated series that ended. I help my son collect those & some of the ROTF toys.

I just recently got into the Animated series (watched the whole show on Youtube). I loved it enough that I've been looking at the transformer fandom quite a bit, actually.. I try to watch the original show, but I really like TFA more. Between the movie and this stuff, I've gotten the inspiration up to do a drawing for my brother of his old '69 fury. New movie was pretty decent.

I got a weird urge to snag some Generations figures (mostly War for Cybertron based), and tracked down a Soundwave. Took a while, but it happened. And I got a clearance Reveal the Shield Bumblebee (since I can't track down a WFC Bumblebee).

I think the closest I'll get to WFC Bee will be a Cliffjumper. Fine by me, I suppose.

I'd rather have more lines like the Generations/Reveal The Shield/etc than any movie figures. Digging on way more stylized figures that look aesthetically pleasing in both forms, rather than grey matte plastic scrap metal piles. But considering the influx of movie toys, I think my hopes of snagging these figures is falling to the way side.

Though, the Shockwave from DOTM looks pretty stellar.

I totally agree. I've been looking into Transformers databases, and I had been under the impression that Cliffjumper was just a repaint of Bee, but there's a different head sculpt.

I'll get Cliffjumper, and have him chill with my WFC Soundwave & Prime and RTS Bee.

Anyone else know if more lines like Generations or Reveal the Shield will be coming in the relatively near future? I know the movie line will be flooding shelves for a long time, but I'm curious. (Walmarts near me still have Revenge of the Fallen figures).

Slap-Happy
07-03-2011, 02:56 PM

Brodie

Does anyone know why they called Mirage "Dino" in the movie?

Stryker and I had been playing the DOTM game, where you play a level as Mirage. You're clearly the same car as the one in the film that they refer to as Dino.

Is the toy called Mirage or Dino?

I'm always underwhelmed by the movie toys. If anything, I'd get a Mirage, Shockwave and possibly Soundwave. but most likely just Shockwave.

Slap-Happy
07-03-2011, 05:11 PM
I believe they gave him that name because one of the sons of the founder of Ferrari was nicknamed Dino. But yeah, it's obviously Mirage. It looks like the toys are called Mirage. Bay's name choices are pretty confusing. For example, the Einstein bot is named Que in the movie, but Wheeljack elsewhere.

How's the game by the way? I heard it's the best of the movie games, but not a good game in general.

Brodie
07-03-2011, 05:56 PM
Well, it wasn't a painful game by any means. High Moon, the studio behind War for Cybertron, handled it, and you can tell.

Its really a decent movie game, especially by Transformers standards. It plays almost exactly like WFC, which is great. The multiplayer, though fairly shallow, is pretty fun. (Though Stryker and I were able to get ALL the multi-achievements in less than 2 hours) It obviously lacks the aesthetics of the more classic looking Transformers in lieu of having the Bay-formers. And as much as I bitch about them, they look pretty good here, just grey, obviously. Bumblebee, Mirage and Soundwave look the best, while everything else isn't very impressive, but isn't offensive to the eyes either.

Its missing the Horde-Mode, and the co-op mode that was a fantastic part of WFC.

I redboxed it for $2, and got 33 of the 36 achievements (if I wanted to keep it another night, I could have knocked out the final 3 achievements in a few hours, but it wasn't worth it). So I wouldn't suggest buying it, its an easy one night rental.

Overall? Enjoyable. Decent movie game, thanks to high moon, but it did exactly what I thought it would do and made me want to play WFC again (which I will).

I've seen pics of Sonicron, and I'm not impressed. The proportions are ridiculously wonky and even the base design isn't that impressive.

The third-party Masterpiece-style Soundwave, however.... (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/434916-prototype-g1-cartoon-soundwave.html)

As for the latest toys I've bought, those would be the WFC Megatron and Soundwave, both of whom I love. Both of them for their sculpts and articulation, Soundwave for his transformation, which I find rather fun, and Megatron for how DEAD SOLID he feels.

I also got the DOTM repaint of voyager Starscream. His posability is a bit disappointing, but the way he looks in both modes and the sheer involved-ness of his transformation make him satisfying for me.

Also, I must express how ridiculously excited I am for the Prime toys. I caught Peaugh's review of the Starscream... damn, that toy is sexy.
