View Full Version : Go Go Power Rangers!
Since Blade Raider an I ran the risk of hijacking another thread with our talk of Power Rangers toys, I decided to follow his suggestion and start up a Power Ranger toy thread! With occasional mentions of Casshern, insofar as they are relevant. ;)
So, Jungle Fury toys are excellent -- if y'all come across any of the standard figures on clearance, I truly recommend them. (And if you see any extra Wolf, Camille, or Yellow Rangers, grab one for me! :D ) The newer RPM toys are pretty decent too, though they lack the thigh and ankle articulation of the Jungle Fury figures and therefore aren't quite as poseable. They do, however, come with a boatload of unpainted accessories.
They're also relatively cheap ($7 each) and don't come with fused joints (or covered in icky mold grease), which is more than I can say for DC Universe Classics...
And now, to respond to BR's comments from the other thread:
If you're a stickler for articulation like I am, don't get any of the gimmick figures. Their articulation is pretty much swivel joints at the shoulders and hips and whatever they need for the gimmick (like knees for the bikes)...
Yeah, I think the bike figures are missing the elbow and ankle hinges and thigh swivels of the regular figures. Like you, I prefer more articulation, but it's really not so bad. (I picked up the RPM Wolf Ranger with the translucent purple armor and I think I like him better than the regular figures, though compared to them he's only missing elbow joints.) It's the aesthetics more than anything that have kept me away -- I think the hips look kinda wonky on the JF bike figures. But if I don't find a regular Wolf Ranger soon (and if that set is still at WM when I go back), I may decide to settle just to have an RJ on the team.
I recognized the name Casshern, but had to google it. I see why PR figures would be a good base. There is 2 (at least one) figure of him out there, but I'm guessing you want him bigger.
Yeah, I'm aware of the Microman figures, but I'd like him in a 6"-ish scale if possible. Unfortunately, I don't really like any of the Jungle Fury Rangers for him! I did pick up a couple of extra Legends White Rangers, and he'll do in a pinch (if I painted all the details white and did some creative outlining, he might look like an armored Casshern interpretation), but I'd rather come up with something else. I'm considering spraypainting my extra Black Spidey white and giving him a White Ranger helmet. :)

Its pretty decent, if youre talking about the Super Legends figure. I snagged it, and I felt like a kid when I saw it.
Its overly stylized, but its pretty neat.
I have too much (not enough) Power Ranger ****. I have like....4 different Green Rangers (Original flip head, 12 inch, Super Legend, and new Extreme Legend...thing).

I still have tons of stuff from when I was a kid, but I can't remember it all. I have all of the original Auto-Morphing Rangers (Thanks to my sis who gave me her Pink and Yellow a few years back). I rememeber Tor was my first zord. Use to keep Movie Star and Nibja Action Mikes riding it. I have it, Serpenterra, and Pyramidas stashed away with my Battle Shell and Party Wagon. I got the Command Center playset off eBay last year (I have pictures somewhere...).
Anyways, I got random toys all the way up to In-Space (Never did get the Astro Megazord. Here's hoping for a Super Legends one). Tubro and In-Space was when the figures started getting to muscular and ugly. Jungle Fury was the first time since then that they looked like Rangers and not wrestlers. I'm glad Bandai skipped the White, Green, Zedd, and Gold for the 15th figures or they would have been overly muscular too. I'm very happy to see the Super Legends continue as a sub line.
I see some talk about the Retrofire Megazords. Here's some pics of mine from when I got it (The last pic points out articulation since it's so odd.)
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/Public/Megazord01.JPG
The leap stand has very little use. Here'sa one of the good one.

It works great with the old 5.5" monsters! Btw, Eye Guy gets tons of laughs from my family/friends because he has "boobs popping action"
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/Public/Megazord04.JPG
The articulation is good, but odd. It's made to take a lot of great poses, but it can't take every pose you might want. I still highly recommend it.
http://vault.error-403.net/files/3/Public/Megazord05.JPG
On a side note, I'm trying to find the old Micro Machine zords to use with this figure.
I've also gotten into the Micro Megazords. The Rhino Steel is better than the bigger figures! Plus, I can do this...
Behold: Jungle Totem Pride UltraZord!

I have most of the zords from the first few years and I got Divatox from the turbo line, I also got a train zord but I don't know what series it's from cause I stopped buying PR after the second movie. the other day I got a pile of villains but I don't know who most of them are. i'll try to post a pic soon to see if anyone here can identify them.

That reminds me, one of the reasons I can't fully get back into PR is because they've stop making the villians and monsters. Last year, they only made Dai Shi, Camille, and Lord Zerd and technically only Zedd is a villian (And even he turned good at one point!). Just from Jungle Fury, I'd love to have Naja, the 3 Overlords, and Phantom Beast Generals (including Camille). And why isn't there a Phantom Beast King Dai Shi? Anyways, looking at RPM, there doesn't look to be any villians aside from those Micro Machines size things that come with the Rangers. Looking at some of the RPM villians, I think I'll want some of them as toys.
Seriously, what's the point if your Rangers don't have anything to fight?
This is something that's bothered me since I've initially seen it...

I've been told that this is the "Battalizer Triassic Ranger", (thanks ZariusTwo) but the package indicates that he's instead known as the "New" Ranger. WtF? Any ideas why?
Perhaps "Battalized Triassic Ranger" wouldn't fit on the packaging? ;)
Also, that figure's gotten multiple releases -- apparently the original one (which apparently came with additional armor/accessories) was called the Triassic Quadro-Battalized Power Ranger. It looks like there was another "Power Rangers Heroes" release that was designated the "Red" Ranger and had slightly different paint.
Moving on, like Blade Raider, I agree that Bandai should make more villains... though I guess technically you could use the Spirit Rangers as villains if you wanted (even though they turned good as well). At the same time, I can understand why they wouldn't -- with the exception of Dai Shi and Camille, none of the other villains seemed especially long lived! The ones BR mentioned stuck around longer than the others and would have made for pretty cool toys (I'd have gotten a Jellica even before knowing anything about the show), but still.
Also, most of the villains have highly involved costumes -- it's possible that Bandai didn't want to go to the trouble of having them sculpted (and painted).
I personally want a Buffalord figure (I really liked that design -- must've been the horns and the cape ;) ), though right now my Dai Shi is being backed up by one of those old Jagun Fighters figures. He's a tad bit shorter than the Rangers, so he doesn't look especially good next to them (though I imagine he might look fine next to one of the 6" Megazords, since they generally seem to be bigger than the monsters), but he looks good next to Dai Shi since it's not uncommon for a top villain to be larger than his generals.

The Train is from Lightspeed Rescue. They did team ups with the Time Force Rangers and the Galaxy Rangers.
Dang -- I might have to wait until fall to buy more RPM figures! Dig the news about these upcoming gems:
5” RPM ACTION FIGURES – ... The Fall lineup brings an all-new, high octane lineup inspired by the speed and action of Power Rangers RPM, including all new 5” articulated figures. ... Prepare the Rangers for battle by flipping down the helmet’s visor.
I loves me some Rangers with revealable faces!
Coming late fall, Bandai America will continue their highly sought after Super Legends action figures. These limited edition “chase” figures feature popular characters from past Power Rangers seasons, and are perfect for all fans, young and old, missing that key character in their ultimate toy collection.
Gimme. :D
5” SUPER LEGENDS DIORAMA FIGURES – Each 5” Diorama Figure is posed on a stylized, brushed metal base so fans and collectors alike can showcase their highly detailed, live action look RPM Red or Gold Ranger. Figures feature a unique weapon and attachable battle effects.
Sounds intriguing... looking forward to seeing how those turn out.

Anyways, I need to see the show (and that might be hard) before I buy into the line. I'm really not liking the Zord designs (though they are growing on me), but the Rangers look neat.

Kamen Rider's doing the same thing. Let's hope PR's is better.
I love PR my current collection is very lacking....
This is a toyline that since I got back into PR since MMPRS3 has gotten so huge that I don't think I'll ever get fully back into, though I've been tempted many times a new season comes out to get them.
Though I definitely want more, I'm thinking of just sticking to the Super Legends releases. I'd also like a set of red-ranger figures, not sure which I want yet so at the time I think I might wait for the 35th/20th anniversaries to see what they do.
I liked the XXX anniversary Red Ranger set from japan but I hate that its so expensive and they all have the same fists down pose. I also hate that the zyured has the dragonshield he shouldn't have it....none of the other red rangers have their powerups... I liked that we had 30 reds and the big one..
The american version of this was somewhat better and worse, the rangers had their poses but they only had 13 of them, no alien ranger and two repeats of their powered up forms which I didn't care for...It also made me angry that I had no money/didn't know TRU was having a buy 2 get one free sale so I could have saved $25 and never got them...
I also really liked the 7" red anniversary rangers but also for a few reasons did not get them. I was influenced that I shouldn't since they were all the same sculpt and were expensive. It also pissed me off everyone at rangerboard got them a lot cheaper and and on the 3 for 2 sale while my TRU still had them for their original price....I also didn't like that for some awful reason they made Mystic Red into his second form instead of his main form. And they butchered his second form....oh yeah and no alien ranger, why does BanDai hate the alien ranger?
So yeah I guess I'll wait to have a red ranger collection.

It will be a long time until they get to any female Rangers. Their currently only doing the additional Rangers of each season (MMPR Green, MMPR White, Zeo Gold, Ninja Storm Green, etc.). Then again, you never know seeing as Lod Zedd got made. I think it'd be nice to make two collector's sets of 6 figures each. One with the 6 original Rangers (Green or White, doesn't matter to me) and the other set with all the main villians (Then Rita can finally have a figure!).
EDIT: I forgot to mention that they only make 4 different chase figures a year (right now, at least).
I kinda hope they take their time getting to more female Rangers until they can find a way to give them useful leg articulation. The soft plastic skirts look good, but I'd really prefer an alternative (or no skirt at all) so that the girls aren't forced to stand around while the guys prepare for battle!
Not that it matters, since it's not like they have many villains to fight. :(
Personally, I hope they make a Dark Specter figure. That dude looked siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. Psycho Rangers would also be acceptable.

But DC Direct figures have even less articulation (or less poseability; I guess they have close to the same number of joints) than the figures Bandai's giving us! I mean, if there's no better way, I'd prefer that they go back to the earlier method of just molding the skirts onto the legs. Sure, the female Rangers look more like they're wearing shorts, but at least they can pose more effectively. (Granted, I don't actually have any of these earlier Ranger figures, so it's entirely possible that they look horrible in person.)
Making the skirts removable is also an option.
And hear, hear, Brodie. You hear that, Bandai? We want Psycho Rangers! :D

My comic shop just got a bunch of random toys. Found a Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog Deirdre (Air Knight). Total impulse buy. Anyways, aside from the terrorable plastic used (I think it's the same that Kenner used on Clayface :dead:), she's a great figure. Anyways, my point is that all the Mystic Knights have skirts and great articulation (including the hip). The skirt is made of four semi-soft peices and the hip under is small. The combintion gives her great bange of movement. So yeah, we know Bandai has the technology. Guess they just don't use it because there's only 1-2 females a year. Maybe they should give all the Rangers skirts:lol:
Photos, BR? And how much did that cost?
I'm looking at some pics on FigureRealm (http://figurerealm.com/FiguresListChk.php?SID=524&figures=mysticknightsoftirnanog) -- I can't tell for sure, but it looks like those skirts are made of separate pieces. If that's the case, it wouldn't quite work for the Ranger girls since their skirts are solid.
I wish my LCS got random toys. :(

No time for pictures right now. It was $2 (The owner, good guy, got it in a lot and knew most of his normal DC/Marvel/Joe/TF fans wouldn't want it).
This one is it (though all of the variants look to be the same figure)
http://figurerealm.com/actionfigure.php?FID=11876&figure=deirdre
I got it because of the neat weapons and it came with a neato pop-up display. Like I said already, it made in some terrorable plastic. The stuff in so sift that her wrists have fused to the arms, thus I can't move them.
It would work if they put the cuts in the right places. Also, the peices can overlap if need be. It might not look the best, but it's the most cost effective way to do it (hence why GI Joe and Star Wars have been doing it for years).
Mystic Knights, now that takes me back. Any chance of some pics, Blade Raider?
I found yesterday a small box with an unopened set of mail away Power Rangers: The Movie gashapon style figures from an old UK Shreddies cereal promotion. The figures are sort of painted movie and tv style rolled into one. I could show some pics, although I'd have to open the sealed plastic to do any decent photos.
Anyway I am looking to pass this lot on, if anyone is interested in making me an offer or trade.
Also in my PR archive I have a set of 6 smaller MMPR figures, all with weapons and including the hard to find 'skirtless' (:P) pink and yellow rangers. Not sure what this assortment is called but they were the smaller toys without diamonds on the forearms and lower legs.
Open to offers on these too. I'm considering on ebaying these but holding off for now.

Every once in a while, TRU will randomly get a shipment of old stuff. I remember once when I was still working there, there was a box of Star Wars Episode 1 figures that showed up out of the blue, like, 2 years after the movie was out. They were marked to like, 2 dollars I think. I bought them all.

The sword next to the Power Sword is the Shogun Megazord's sword. It came with one of the Ninja Rangers, eh? Which one? The gray guns and dagger are the generic weapons from Zeo. Not a clue on the nunchuck
Are the Power Sword and bow from those smaller scaled figures? They look smaller.
I am assuming the yellow chucks are from a Zeo Ranger, although don't remember owning one. I had Zeo Red, but he ended up being the sacrifial lamb at a Transformers meet back in 1998.
The power sword and bow are from the biker-sized rangers (the weapons also combine). I have them together now as a set with all weapons except for the Dragon Dagger.
I actually meant to say the Ninja Ranger sword was the Shogun Megazord one scaled down. It came with the Red Ranger as well as the Shuriken.

Yes, MMPR is awesome. Next to TMNT(I like TMNT a lot more), MMPR was one of my favorite shows in the 1990s. I recently bought the 7.5" Green Ranger action figure. He's from the line called 'Super Legends Extreme' and he was $17.99. Cool action figure.

So next year, Disney is starting over by re-airing the original MMPR. Plus, Bandai is doing a full out new line of the original series. Shown are the Blue and Pink Rangers figures.
Now maybe we can finally get a Rita figure.

1. There's been better seasons. I love MMPR, but DT and RPM are the best the francise ever put out. The best MMPR season was probably the third, where Rita and Lord Zedd had more of an advantage and actually won for most of the season.
2. It actually wasnt as stupid as you claim, it got a lot of stuff past the radar like assisted suicide and terrorist bombings.
3. Ditto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qABMa5z7o7Y)on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAJy7wHfCX0&feature=related)the (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TvGjHUPOxg&feature=related)show's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4AC5ecyO7M&feature=related) soundtrack.

I think JF and SPD were better, but ya MMPR is far from the end all beat all PR series. It's mostly just opinion though.

It just because repetitive and had some really bad edits in the early stuff. I guess we'll see next year how it measures up :P

SPD was alright, more than overrated, but looked like had a budget. It also had the benefit of having the guy who originally composed the MMPR theme song on the soundtrack.

The good/bad: 4". That's GI Joe and the video linked above proves it (pause when Black attacks the grinder, he's a lot smaller and their holding him higher). That's good if you're like me and collect that scale. It's bad if you want that SL Zeo Red to fit in with SL Zeo Gold.
Aside from that, it's mostly good if not great. 3 villians! And good ones too! Zedd strikes me as odd since he doesn't show up until season 2. Of course, it could be that they'll compress the show down to the important/best episodes (I hope not though). Alpha 5 AND Zordon?! Damn, never saw that coming.
If the Dragon Dagger plays the song, I'm getting it.
I find it odd that they list Retrofire Megazords since I've yet to hear of this year's fall line hitting (want that Thundersaurus Megazord so bad!). I how the "Mighty Morphin Dino Megazord" is an upgrade of this year's mold.

Has anyone else picked up any figures from the newer assortments? I snagged an Evil Grinder, Full Throttle Silver Ranger, and a Throttle Max Gold Ranger today. However, I'm now unsure whether I want to open the latter, since I'm not sure if the helmet is removable! Y'all wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you? :tanime:
Kendamu
10-22-2009, 08:15 PM
Does that mean that a Green Ranger MMPR morpher might see the light of day in the US?
Went ahead and opened it -- the helmet is removable, but exposes holes on the sides of the figure's head. I think I'll keep it because... well, whatever :P... but I'd probably recommend going for the regular Full Throttle Gold Ranger if you have the choice. He's got the most impressive color scheme of the Full Throttle figures, after all, and the dull grey armor kinda mutes it.
I might try painting it for kicks.
EDIT: On the other hand, this Gold Ranger's head is actually painted gold, whereas (I think) the normal one's head is just cast in the gold/bronze plastic. Of course, the helmet shape is slightly different and the holes in the head are still there, but it really doesn't look that bad considering that there would be black wheels there anyway. The more I look at this guy, the more I like him. Hmm.

Happy they aren't anywhere near as bad as the 15th Red Ranger line. Those were terrible looking. JF and RPM spoiled us with rangers that don't look like He-Man.
I honestly thought more people would complain about the new scale or the gloves "poofing" out then the more bluff look. Before that, they looked far worse than these.
Btw, TRU.com has the line in stock right now. Goldar and Green are alredy sold out (last I checked).

Yep. I have Black, Yellow, Putty, and Alpha. Their pretty good. Black is the one I like the least. The muscles are a tad to big so the range of movment isn't as good as Yellow's. Putty is great. Alpha is also great, but his scale is a bit off. Also, Zordon's not blue. That's just weird.
The instuctions made me lol. Apparently Alpha's head is an accessory.
Also, if you plan to get Alpha or Putty get them soon. They won't ship after the this assortment. Also, wave 2 is just the 6 Rangers with silver crap and Goldar will ship with them.

For those on the fence, they aren't that great. If you're a fan of small, stylized figures they're okay. But the lack of paint really hurts them.
But Bandai seemed to think about that and priced them at about half the current market price for figures like these. You get 8 figures for the price of two SHS 2-packs.

Are you people crazy? Those old toys arent good...these ones are actually sculpted. The Megazord is the same mold, scaled down. Its practically the same.

From what I have seen the new Megazord seems a lot more sturdy than the older wobbly toy. I think it could do with a slightly better colour palette in places. Nothing that can't be altered by anyone with an urge customising. :D
I think a Dragonzord is innevitable since there are shoulder connectors on Megazord. There is something on the rumourmill about an new Dragonzord for 2011 featuring new gimmicks including motorised movement (ala TF Trypticon). If anyone else can find news on an upcoming Dragonzord post it here :D

I got the Green Ranger and Putty yesterday afternoon. Very good figures. I just dislike those jet black weapons! I would'nt minded them being the grey they were with the biker size rangers back in the day. Better yet in an actual scheme like a lot of modern figure weapons are. Perhaps it was a cost cutting move...
I would have liked the Putty to have had the ball weapon or arm spike from the tv show, but with the assistance of some grey playdough any accessorie is a possible extension to suit the character theme.
I've not bought Power Rangers in years so I don't know what has been best and worst for the last decade, but I will say these are a decent small assortment.

When they went back to MMPR, I think they delayed Pink and planned Zeo V instead. Zeo V has since been caneled. He was going to be 5" like RPM. I think Super Legends will come back once the new Saban show starts. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they scaled down Super Legends to 4", but remember that I already collect that scale.
Also, Lord Zedd's getting a normal 4" figure.

I was going to pass on the new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toy line, but today I decided to buy the Green Ranger. He is very cool! I hope I haven't started collecting these too late, as I would like to complete the six Power Rangers and the villains by the end of the summer. I don't want to go to ebay for these.
I don't know if I should buy Goldar though. He is my favorite Power Ranger's villain, but his 4" figure has bad articulation. His arms are restricted by the shoulder pads, so that eliminates any possibility for awesome sword wielding poses. Any advice on that, is it still worth buying?

Well, there's only 9 single carded figures out there and at their relatively cheap price, it ain't hard to do. First, I suggest get the Putty and Alpha. Not only are they great (The Putty's so great that I have 5!), but their also 1 per case each. once the new wave hits these will be the hard ones to find. Next, the girls. There's no variants of them like the guy Rangers. Blue and Black aren't as common as Red and Green, but I see those often. Goldar shelfwarms because he's a bad toy and everyone knows it.

If you have doubts, skip him. 90's McFarlane toys are better and that's saying something. He's not worth it unless you have no Goldar or making a complete collection.
Any news on a new Command Center being released? I haven't heard anything about that, but it would be cool.
Probably won't happen. PR ain't as big as it use to be and cool playsets like that aren't made unless the line is big. At best, we'll get a semi that transforms into what they call a "playset." That sid, I'd love it if they remolded the original Command Center for use with the new line and corrected the colors. Won't happen, but it'd be cool.

I also saw Walmart doing somethign similar, with many of the mmpr stuff dropping down. I saw the Megazords in the clearence aisle, but it only dropped to 17.99
That was quick! The toys have only been out less than a year. I heard from Wes that the figures have been in bargain bin territory. Certainly a bad sign?
