Cat in China grows a pair of wings

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a … cat?

A kitty in Chongqing, China, is getting some extra-special attention these days: The furry feline has developed wings! Though born looking completely normal, once the cat hit the age of 1, he began growing wing-shaped appendages on either side of his spine, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reports.

While some think the bony limbs may be a mutation of some kind — or even a Siamese twin growing inside the cat — others speculate it's a genetic change perhaps caused by chemicals ingested by the kitty's mother while she was pregnant.

Ironically, the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper featured a devil kitty, a gray male who has double pinnas (ear flaps) which vaguely resemble devil's horns. :P

Sorry to say I couldn't find a link for it.

Back in August 2008, the U.K. Telegraph reported that tomcats in China's Sichuan province developed wing-like growths on their backs.

So it's almost common in China for winged cats....neat...I want one!

That's alarming...I mean only in china....There has to be something wrong with the environment.

I thought six toed cats were a sign of doom here in the U.S. But holy crap...when your cats grow wings, it's time to stop feeding them lead tainted cat food.

I really don't see how the vet can say this doesn't affect the cat at all. It cannot be healthy to grow "wings" when you aren't ment to have them.

Fascinating....but alarming.

Hannah

I'm sure the vet knows more about this than you do.

No you confuse me with NWG....

a vet in china, a country that treats animals relatively crappy comparing to us, is a joke.

Not such a sign of doom:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyl_cat

I even saw one for adoption at a PetSmart store. She was a tuxedo camed named Ariel, was quite friendly, had no difficulty walking, and was eventually adopted.

It sounds interesting, but it does seem weird for a cat to grow wings. If the mother was eating chemicals while pregnant, that's not a good sign.

Buslady
06-01-2009, 07:10 AM
polydactylisms happens everywhere, it's genetic. i had a poly kitty, he was a way cool cat. sweet personality.

these "wings" seem to happen only there and is chemical influenced. it's just sad for them to think it's no big deal. I'd have them removed immediatly.

BubblyShell22
06-01-2009, 12:15 PM
Oh, I see. Yes, I agree that the wings should be removed.

Ryona

You can't just clip a cat's wings off. They need those to get to heaven.

Do cats substitute their 9 lives for wings?

Storm Wolf
06-01-2009, 08:33 PM
I'm sure the vet knows more about this than you do.

Yeah....and I suppose you know the vet personally and know that for a fact as well.

a vet in china, a country that treats animals relatively crappy comparing to us, is a joke.

I have to agree with that. I can't see how a country who, in general, doesn't care about animals should have many if any good vets. ( I don't mean all of the populace.... I'm sure there are some in the country that care for animals.)

I even saw one for adoption at a PetSmart store. She was a tuxedo camed named Ariel, was quite friendly, had no difficulty walking, and was eventually adopted.

I actually meant that as a joke more than anything. Cats with extra toes live just as long an healthy lives as any other cat.

Ra

Hm... an odd thought... is the cat neutered? Is it genetic? Can we have a whole army of flying cats by the end of the century if this guy still has his manhood?

I think I need more sleep...

'Welcome to Pizza Hut, can I take your order?'

'Yeah, just a large pepperoni and an order of cat wings.'

'Spicy or mild?'

'Spicy, please.'

'Genetic or chemical?'

'Does the chemical come with extra packets of cheese?'

'Yes it does.'

'BRING IT ON!!!!'
