I need full body pics of Shredder from the first movie for a project I'm planning to start shortly-- before any of you feel the need to make a dirty joke, most of the pics I found when I googled "Movie Shredder" were pics of him from the waist up; if any of you have scans of pictures of him from the first movie, those would be helpful. I really would like to get one good, well-lighted picture of him, I'm better prepared than I was before I started googling pictures but I'd like to be better prepared when I actually start this project. I remembered that he wore red in the first movie and purple in the second one, but I could remember whether his helmet was serrated or not in the first (it isn't; I was thinking of the second). I might as well go ahead and tell you guys that I am planning on doing an "original movie accurate" Shredder custom, but hopefully nobody will guess what I am using as a base because if someone else stole my idea I honestly think that would ruin this project from me.
I got the idea to do a Shredder as my next custom from Wes, but I'm staying away from Super Shredder because I'm just cool like that and wouldn't want to be a pr*ck and step on anyone else's feet.

The higher numbered pages are better.
You got this idea from the NECA wishlist thread teehee.
I think I have an idea as to what your base is too.

Thanks. I'll be sure to check it out.

Erm...I seriously didn't. That was a coincidence. I started wanting to do a Shredder custom when Wes first posted pics of his. Movies Shredder and Mirage Shredder are similar, but there are also some significant differences.
I think I have an idea as to what your base is too.
Then by all means, send me a PM.

There wouldn't be anything prickish about it, dude! It's like fanart -- if someone else is sketching Super Shredder (or whomever), it wouldn't be wrong of you to draw one too if that's what you wanted to draw. :P And mine's not so much of a Super Shredder as it is a hybrid version -- it's basically a Tournament Fighters Shredder (hence the pink paint job and bare arms) that someone would make if he couldn't sculpt, didn't feel up to scratchbuilding armor, and had acquired several spare Super Shredder figures for parts -- so even if there were anything wrong with making a custom of a character someone else is doing (there isn't), Super Shredder would still be fair game. :D
Anyway, to your project!

I... don't understand why you're so jealously guarding the base figure. Maybe someone would think your idea is good and copy it; maybe not... but honestly, why would that bug you? It's not like you'll win any lasting acclaim in the fandom for being the first to use this base figure, and once you've shared it -- unless you sculpt over it to the point of rendering it unrecognizable -- somebody's going to figure out what you used anyway. And if they like it, they'll borrow your idea. (And there's nothing wrong with that!)
Plus, if you haven't already acquired the base figure, some of us may be able to suggest alternatives that might be better, cheaper, and/or easier to work with.
Anyway! I wouldn't exactly call these well lit, but here's the best I've got:

Now how's about you quit being silly and share the base figure, eh? :P

I was going to use a movie Star Foot Soldier, but if I can find my extra Rebel Soldier from TMNT III (same sculpt), I'll probably use that, because I'd be able to use the same head and not have to break the figure to bits and rebuild it (it already has a generic Asian guy head), and I'm going to have to do a lot of digging through boxes to find all the parts I need anyway.
If I can't find him, and can't find one online for cheap (or someone willing to donate one), I'm going to crack open my MOC blue card Movie Star Foot Soldier and just use that.
Haven't decided which Shredder figures I'll be compromising for armor. It doesn't seem like it woud be a hard custom, just time consuming since all my stuff is scattered throughout different boxes. I have an extra Mutatin' Shredder and I may be able to use some of his armor for parts. I don't know what to do about the shoulder pads though.

I reccomend the armor from slice n dice shredder or whatever hes called.. He doesn't have shoulder pads but the other stuff is gnarly. I think 88 shredder might have some decent shoulder pads though.

I was hoping to find a toon shredder cheap to use for shoulder pads...I have one but don't really want to mess it up.
I like the idea of using the rebel soldier -- like you said, generic Asian guy, and you can cut off the topknot and slip the Mutatin' Shredder helmet over his head for an easy movie Shredder look (the helmet already has the grille and everything).
For shoulderpads, I'd use the Mutatin' Shredder too, actually -- more spikes like the film version, and you could either cut off the parts that hang down in front or use those to attach the armor in back (so compared to its original arrangement, the armor would be backwards on your figure -- that's how I'm doing it with the Super Shredder armor on mine). The Mutatin' Shredder has pretty good armor all around, actually.
And no need to ruin a toon Shredder if you'd prefer to use that armor -- just grab a cheap 1987 one (plenty of those around!) and paint the blue armor silver. It's a simple step and you don't have to mess up a somewhat less common figure.
See how sharing can help? We're making custom toys -- it's not like we're rival nations guarding national security secrets or anything. :D

Here are two pics of the Movie accurate Samurai TMNT I did almost two years ago:

Sorry if they're kinda blurry...I will try to take some better ones.
I finished my Movie I/Mirage Shredder yesterday. I was fairly pleased, and will post pics soon...

they look great! I really like the colours you used for them. it's hard to tell from the pic, but did you repaint the bandanas too? Donny's looks a bit darker than the original.

looking forward to it. :)

Nope, the bandannas are the same-- the contrast is playing tricks on your eyes. The purple probably looks different against bright green skin.
I will try to post pics of the Shredder custom in the next couple o' days. :twink:

I happened to find my extra loose/incomplete Rebel Soldier, and that's what I used for a base. I want to see if you guys can figure out what else I used.

Slice in dice shredder head/gauntlet spikes I think the shoulder/leg ones are from road ready/mutatin shredder?
Dope though dude.

I think the base you used is perfect, and I love the paint job you did on the body cause it looks just like the movie Shredder, but the head you used doesn't go well for the movie look, but it's a good choice for a Mirage Shredder.
Why does it take me so long to finish customs?! :tcry:
cause you have ADD. :P

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone! :tgrin:
I wanted to do a movie Shredder, but I kinda prefer the Slice n' Dice Shredder head, so that's what I used. It came out looking like a hybrid between Mirage Shredder/Movie Shredder, which was fine by me--the more Shredder interpretations there are floating around, the better (as far as I'm concerned).
I used an old-fashioned container of red paint (like for touching up the paint job on a car), it sticks really well to the plastic and didn't take much more than one coat. It also dries REALLY quickly. The fumes are pretty bad but oh well, I survived them.
I had to trim Mutatin' Shredder's shoulder pads down a bit because of the over-sized head I used. I also had to heat up my pocket knife and drill a hole in the bottom of the Slice and Dice Shredder head, which I filled with super-glue. I don't know about Movie Star Foot Soldier, but generic Asian Rebel Soldier's head is on a large peg, so I needed a fairly large hole.
I had been thinking about how I wanted to do this project for quite some time, and being that we'd been snowed in for almost a week, I figured no time like the present. The hardest part was actually digging through boxes to find Mutatin' Shredder for his armor. I probably should have used his head/helmet, but oh well. I have another Mutatin' Shredder MOC so I could always do another one/better at some point if I wanted. :twink:
I'm leaving this one the way it is, primarily because I probably couldn't get that Slice and Dice Shredder head off even if I wanted to. :tconfuse:
Edit: Forgot to mention the glitter glue! Had to make sure I didn't use too much, less is more. I was glad I did though.
Oh man, that's awesome! I'd totally borrow your recipe if the results were in 6" scale and I weren't such an articulation junkie. As it is, that Slice 'N' Dice Shredder head looks way better than I've ever given it credit for -- I'll have to get one so I can use the head as an accessory with my own Shredder. :)
And while your custom probably would've turned out fantastic (or even the same) either way, I hope our suggestions were at least a little helpful. Really, there's no need for secrecy -- we're makin' customs, not maintaining national security! :tlol:
I do have one question, though: why'd you paint the crotch black? It looks fine, mind you -- I'm just curious!

I didn't paint the crotch black...it was already black (same as the legs) because I used generic Asian guy rebel soldier from TMNT III instead of my MOC C8 Movie Star Foot Soldier on blue re-release card. :trazz:
By the way, Wes, your suggestion to use Mutatin' Shredder for armor was EXTREMELY helpful. I consider this one of the easiest AND most successful customs I have ever done. I kind of wish I'd used Mutatin' Shredder's wrist gauntlets instead of Slice n' Dice Shredder's, but hey, I can always use them for a future custom.
Which reminds me...we need to hold another contest soon.
Oh, I see -- well then, revised question: why didn't you paint the crotch red? Again, it looks great, but I'm curious. :trazz:
And I'm glad the suggestions were helpful! I think your choice of the SnD Shredder's forearm blades works better than the Mutatin' Shredder's, if only because they have claws and the others don't. A Shredder needs his claws!
I didn't mention how fuzzy this custom makes me feel inside, but it really does. I'll have to post a pic of my childhood Shredder figure so you'll understand why. :tgrin:

Answer to your revised question: I seem to remember him being dressed that way SOMEWHERE. Maybe I imagined it, but I purposefully painted around that area in case I decided to just leave it black, and in the end I did.
Post a pic of your "childhood Shredder"-- now I'm really curious...

I had promised a better pic...but the quality still leaves a lot to be desired.
Mirage/Movie Shredder stands opposite my latest finished work, Secret of the Ooze Shredder (started it yesterday afternoon, finished it within several hours). This was really fun to work on even though it didn't come out exactly as planned and required that I destroy two perfectly good figures (A Movie Star Foot Soldier on a Blue Card that was MOC until yesterday afternoon and a mint/complete Mutatin' Shredder, now I have to open my MOC one if I want a loose one for display).
This will be my first entry for the custom contest, will post this pic to that thread as well...

The custom looks great, though! ;)

Good looking custom, and you managed to finish it quite fast. Mine's taken a LOT more time, but she needed sculpting and several coats of paint...putting it online tonight if I manage to get camera ;)
