I reviewed "You Had To Be There" (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2010/02/you-had-to-be-there.html) today and it left me wondering something:

Who is this "Mega-Pound-something" that Mike went out drinking with?

Is he some indie comics character created by Richard Corben that Eastman decided to name drop? What is his ACTUAL name, exactly?

Or is it not even a reference at all?

I'm just curious because hell, I dunno.

I always thought this story was about Raphael...it was first printed in Gobbledygook, was it not? Is Mike actually mentioned by name in the story?

I've got no idea, i'm afraid to say.

I was reading through the 25th ann. book last week, and after this story, I was left wondering what turtle it was. I checked all the pages to no avail. Then you come on here saying its Mikey. So I just checked again to see if I had missed anything, and right there... on the FIRST panel... there he is holding his 'chucks. D'oh!

EDIT: I knew it wasn't Don or Leo, as they are named at the end, so I figured it was Raph, as it was an Eastman story...

It was first printed in color in TMNT (Vol. 1) #7 and then reprinted in black and white in Gobbledygook and Shell Shock.

And it is Mike. He can even be seen clutching a pair of nunchuku.

Doesn't act a whole lot like Mike, though.

EDIT: Someone beat me to it.

Possible connection.... http://www.comicvine.com/megaton-megaton/37-136945/

Apparently "Megaton" was an indie superhero book that Larsen, Fosco, and Carlson all worked on in the early 80's. Featured Vanguard in it.

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but we've kinda got a creator connection, and a drunk person might refer to a "ton" as "pound-something"

There's also "The Savage Megaton Man":

Maybe we're talking about the same guy, ToTheNines, even though the pictures are different?

It does stand to reason that a drunken Mikey would screw up the name.
