I remember someone asking this, but it was before the new show. Which do you think is the best animation?

i voted for the new cartoon. the old one had its moments, but after the pilot it got way too silly for me. and i've never seen the Red Sky eps.

I voted for new eps, the animation seems to "flow" better... less mistakes too. (Not saying that it dosn't have it's mistakes  )

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Red Sky eps were when they moved to CBS. I prefer the original.

I love the old show but the animation between the 2 is no contest (New show wins by a land slide).

From a purely technical standpoint... The new show has the best animation... Hands down :D It's gorgeous.

Man i'm a little surpised 2 people have voted for the old show (1 original 1 red sky). I'm one of the few fans that believe the old cartoon is better than the new one (its what i grow up with) but animation wise there is no contest.

I think this question is unnecessary. There are seven years between this two shows, of course the new one's is better!

The New Show has the best Animation. The Original Show is right behind it.

Red Sky was...blah. :|

Of course the new show has better animation, Its been 7 years since Red sky ended! You shouldn't compare state of the art animation to old cartoons...

Karpo, in 10 years (if they make another "state-of-the-art" TMNT toon and if the world still exists), you'll be saying the same thing about this one.

All the animation is done in a studio in Korea this time... I think they also did the Batman Adventures cartoons and tue current JLA cartoon as well?

Batman started in 1992, and many early episodes have as great animation as the new TMNT series, IMO.

Newer animation does not necessarily mean better animation. Compare the animation in the early Disney movies (the first five animated ones) to the ones they're putting out today. Not much compares to the amount of detail that went into those.

In the case of TMNT, the new episodes are definately better. The old cartoon had actual episodes where the animation was so sloppy it made me embarassed to watch.. ugh. The Red Sky stuff wasn't too bad, but the animation in the new show is just fantastic.

I know excatly what you mean. But seasons 1, 8 and 10 had some very nice animation.

Isn't that because Toei was doing it?

I know Japanese animated the first season, but seasons 8 and 10 were done in the States I believe.

Ok I'll try to be objective but compared to the other shows that were out when each show came out I'd say Red Sky is the best in my mind.
I love the new eps, but when compared to a lot of the shows that are out now its nothing really special in my mind, esspescually when comapred to the 2d-3d hybred of MOTU. The first season is still very impressive for its time, but I think Red Sky had the best work compared to the time, if nothing else the constant mutations of the TMNT and other sharcters in the show set a presidence for animation I havn't see seen replicated in cell cartoons to this day

IMO the fighting scenes in the new TMNT show are alot better than in the new MOTU-toon.

I agree. I think its better in every area. Writing in it is starting to get boring, only thing that changes are that new masters come to picture. But of course Im a turtle fan, so it's only the animation I can compare fairly.

you forgot to include the cgi

I didn't like the CGI-clip. The turtles looked like frogs, April like a horse, Splinter like a dog and Shredder like a clown.
The fighting scenes were totally awesome though! :D

I know some 80s cartoons which were WAY better animated than some of today's cartoons.

As much as I think this new cartoon completely owns the original series, I still think the Red Sky animation was the best IMO.

The new animation from the new cartoon is really impressive. Though the earlier old cartoons (pre-Red Sky) had its share of flaws, I also liked the animation during that time. As for the Red Sky episodes, I wasn't impressed with them.

Other than the first, maybe second season, the original cartoon didn't thave the greatest animation. It got worse, I think, as the series went on. But the first season was the best. There's some really nice animation in that.

Yeah, I gave credit, but I forgot who put this up before. I didn't include the CGI because it was just a Pilot.

It's not even a pilot, you could say it's a screen test.

IS this a freaking joke? "Which animation is best?" Gee, I dont know...I wonder...maybe the new ones? LOL. How is this even a poll???
I dont think there is anyone who can say the old ones had better animation. Maybe some liked the old goofy ones better(had a better theme song, thats for sure!) but...yeah.

Just ignore it if you think it's a dumb poll. And new animation isn't always better than old. I just wanted other opinions.

And MOTU, is the new He-Man series: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Maybe not always, but even if you do prefer the old show, if you know anything about animation, you can't say the old one is better.

Here is an example. Wich is better, Pepsi or Coca Cola? Thats matter of opinion. Wich is better, 486 or Pentium 4? This is not.

To specify, the animation of the old show is in perioids.

First season, seasons 2-6, 7 and Redsky

Now, the first season has the best animation in whole series, wich is explained by the fact it's made in japan. 2-6 Can varie, but it's generally MUCH worse than the first one. Especially the framerate in action scenes etc. In season 7 the animation is renewed, and it looks pretty good actually. In Red sky, it's totally diffent, and the best after season 1.

Arguing about that is very futile, Technology has advanced, and the new show has the Very good animation. You could argue about first season or Red sky tough. But still when you compare those to the new show, you can see that even there the animation isn't as finished.

PS. This has noithing to do with "bashing" the old show, just stating the facts.

Just as you said Coke vs. Pepsi was a matter of opinion, so is how the preference of how one country animates.

im completely old school when it comes to the animation...i say the first series

beaker
03-30-2003, 03:05 AM
It's not even an argument...the poll should be 'which do you like better, the old cartoon or the new one'?

As there is no argument about which one has better animation.

I will say the first episode of the original show beat the pants off the first show of the new one...and I liked the fact there was a mix of night and day shots...you also had the Technodrome and that kick ass theme song.

But now you have much better chemistry between the turtles, non insulting/non goofy good writing, wayyy better animation, real violence, psuedo cinematic elements, etc. I am not a big fan of a lot of the generic drab interior shots weve een getting...the urban decay look is wearing old.

So yeah, pros and cons about both...btw, is it me or does the new TMNT show seem to ramp up the animation quality whenever the Battle Shell vehicle is in motion?

In case you didn't know, in the 80's and early 90's Japanese animation was 10 years ahead of Western animation. That's not matter of opinion either, it's a fact. Today, saying that wouldn't be so easy, the western animation has evolved quite a bit.

yup agreed. Well im leaning to the new show being better. But the old show was my childhood. its classical. I love everything to do with the turtles besides the next mutation
