We know how we feel about out TMNT collectibles whether its figures, comics, posters, or others. Many of us have shared photos of theses collections which were greatly admired my forum members. The Technodrome forum is definitely a cool place to hang out.
But how do family, friends and others feel about our collection when they visit us at home and are exposed to our TMNT collectibles?
More than 1 response could be chosen but lets aim for the general one.

I would say its differential.
My friends accept it, but my parents..especially my father say, that its childrish.
Also in here I rarely get any responses. Dont know why..maybe because I dont have any toys or whatever...Not interesting enough I guess.

My parents (especially my mom) think that I'm wasting my money and time with such childish stuff. My girlfriend really really hates everything ninja turtles and is quite embarrassed with it all.
I choose
"They greatly admired it and the effort taken in collecting"
and also "They liked it and envied the awesome collection"
Even my parents are ok with it. Turtles was the only thing I truly played with. Unlike He-man and Ghostbusters, which I just wanted to have for having them.
And many people envy and admire my autograph collection and the effort I put into it!
(btw, check my collection thread for my latest addition: Ernie Reyes Jr.)
I hide my collection from everyone! Mostly because it dont fit anywhere in my home than in a drawer and some boxes ;) The DVDs/VHS do I hide behind other DVDs. Only the four turtle movies is proudly shown up front!
My girlfriend knows about the collection but not the amount of it. And my friends dont know anything. I think they would think it was wasted money.

I voted for: "I don't care how others feel about my collection, after all it's for me"...because its absoluty right....but I dont use to inform others about my interest/collectibles...but a bit too of :"I hid my collectibles, and generally don't show it to anyone"....(well, I dont hid them, and I only show them to my very few friends........)
My family (parents and one little brother) is wonderful, they are always with me, and They like the things that make me happy....
.......but I dont tell anyelse about my collection...they dont understand...they use to think about it is childish/weird or I wasted money.....I dont like to spend my time with those people!!!!...

My wife is cool with it, actually she's very supportive and even listens to me ramble off random turtle facts. She grew up with them too and is a "fan". (meaning she's thinks there cool, but isn't all about watching them all the time or playing with/collecting tmnt, she has her own toy and cartoon collections so she relates.) Friends are always like "wow cool dude, is this stuff worth anything?", but overall most of them don't really care. Allthough some of them get me turtle stuff as gifts knowing I collect. Parents never come around much, the one time they did, they weren't impressed. Pretty lame considering my Dad collects Hot Wheels cars, maybe he was jealous that my TMNT collection blew his decades old car collection out of the water. They did however get me a TMNT T-shirt for christmas this year, better than the "grandma got ran over by a reindeer" shirt that I got last year and never wore. on the subject of Shirts I'm a relatively small build guy and I wear S or M, but anytime someone buys me a shirt they get XL for some reason rendering it useless, I look like a little kid in 'em. Maybe if i was a thug that would be cool.

Ditch her and find one that liked the Turtles and will support you. With 3 billion women on the planet there is certainly a few out there. :twink:
Oh, and on topic I have a ton of Turtle stuff but it's not on display; not because I'm embarrassed by it or ashamed, I just don't have the room to take it all out and set it up.

People who arent supportive of my collecting will soon find themselves not in my life. It is a passion like anything else. And if you cant respect passion, then what kind of person are you?
Having said that. My family and fiance are really supportive of it. Friends are kinda over it by now since I've been doing this awhile. And new folks are usually impressed by the size of it.

I only have a few toys standing up, and people don't think much of them or all the DVD's but my comic book collection tends to weird people out. My friends think it's cool how I'm in to something unique like that, other people are just put off by comics in general though.

I voted for indifferent. My friends opinions vary. Some like & appreciate it, others respect it but don't understand it, some think its a waste, others find it to be extremely cool. Theres no real negativity from any of them though. As for my family, they know whats up. Most of my collection, in all aspects, has been contributed to by them. Most recently my 'aunt' sent me some 3D TMNT/2k3 puzzles from a hobby shop in queens near her house. She breeds turtles & collects turtle memorabilia, some of which being ninja turtle stuff. My grandma (who I live with) will occasionally give me the "more money on toys?!" talk but shes just looking out for me financially. Other times my dad will say "Don't you ever get sick of buying more and more turtle stuff? How much left could there possibly be?" etc... little does he know the vastness of the playmates line & how many comics are out there. Its overall good views I get though.

I have the whole Archie run, 90 percent of the Mirage books and some random specials all in a book case.

Nobody who has seen my collection has ever said anything bad about it (at least that I know of). They are all shocked and amazed and generally impressed. They ask questions and think for the most part its pretty cool. All of my family and friends are cool with it. And after all these years, everybody has just learned to deal with it, :)

I could explain why but that's a long story and so boring for you to read in frenglish . I do my thing. it's a unic odissey.

I think its mainly seven although part of me is glad as my wife and friends love them. Besides I love the collections my friends have like my best friend who has all the nintendo things that have ever existed. But other people who come home don't understand it and just laugh saying "How much have you spent in these toys?" I hate the way the word toys falls from their lips as a knife against the child they once killed. We are still complete!!
Both sides: the one which still dreams and the one which works, clears the problems and partially dreams of being free to let the first one awake.
When I was still living with my parents, I had all the figures hanging on one wall, and sometimes people would say: "What's the point of not unpacking them", or "You'll never get a girlfriend this way".
The funny thing while living on my own now, is that people first ask where I have my collection, they miss it! (It's on the second floor, so they don't see it right away anymore while walking in.) Turtles has become such a big part of my life and who I am that everyone is ok with me and just loves it!

If you really love someone, you don't just go and ditch her. :)
It's actually getting better: we're building a house at the moment and we've added an extra room for all my turtle stuff. As long as my collection stays there she doesn't really mind.

A mix of "They were indifferent of what they saw and didn't know what to say." and "They were unimpressed with it but didn't criticize. "
My attitude... "I don't care how others feel about my collection, after all it's for me. "

My friends have no real problem... most grew up with TMNT and understand the love I have for it. I think my fiance is happy to see me collecting something other than McFarlane, NECA and Transformer figures. I have pretty much all the ones I've ever wanted now, which is why it's great that the TMNT obsession hit me when it did.

sometimes it gets to the point where u don't care what others think. as long as u get some joy out of it, that's all that matters
I collect only the original tmnt figures (from 1988 till 1995). My wife almost hates the turtles, She thinks they are gay and Childish, especially when She see figures like Farmer Mike, Chief Leo or Crazy Clownin Mike. Anyway, She get used to them (She had no choice).

Most of my friends and family are okay with it , my colleagues at work laugh with it but nothing seriously , and my girlfriend fully supports me in the whole thing altough sometimes she feels like shes on the second place...(wich i don't think she is) she even bought me the tmnt flipper for my birthday 0_o . 1st impression of people i've told is mostly the ''what the hell look'' :p.
Also sometimes i feel like what am i doing/going with this but then again its just a passion/hobby that i can't stop , so in the end i'm happy and that whats count right ?

for me it depends on the age of the person viewing it , most like that it is displayed ,and not kept in plastic totes hidden from dust and uv rays , for me its like a not so manly, man cave, with the everyday troubles in life, its like a time machine to a more innocent time when you could laugh about stuff like cutting a pizza with a ninja sword, most people like seeing it and pointing out what toys they had as a kid, you can almost see the good memories tearing up in their eyes ,lol , but im sure some think its childish and a waste of money ,but i think of it as fun and a possible money generating investment ,if i could ever bring myself to selling it,i am lucky that my wife is a collector of her own thing and we support eachother on it , but as far as negative comments just shake it off ,do what you want to do ,very few friends are forever anyway so dont go out of the way to please them, life is too short ,and if it isnt hurting anyone and the bills are paid ,buy some turtles ,they are cheaper than cigarettes and beer ,well it all seems so silly in the long run so COWABUNGA i guess??? good thread
