It is not very polite to ask a girl about her age, but I'll answer because I don't conceal it. In about 10 days I'll be 15.

Rockin' Reptile, I could have asked you the same question, but I won't. Not because I'm so polite  but because I've found the answer in your ICQ details.

Oh, my! I seem to be one of the youngest members here. On one hand, it's good, 'cause I have many years "as a reserve" before I'll be ashamed to participate in a TMNT discussion (I've got much time to increase my rank!). On the other hand, my parents would never let me talk with unknown people who are older than me...
azure turtle
04-04-2002, 11:02 AM
Poser? Bleah!
I've got the Akira DVD, too! Did you buy the special edition one? Mine's the newest release, but it isn't the special edition one that came in a tin box. And I've got to say that Akira is one of the most confusing and complex movies I've ever seen. I had to watch it three times before it made any sense.
Oy, Deskjet! Don't worry, dudette, you'll get there! And it's okay if you're the youngest here. TMNT fans come in all different ages, backgrounds, etc. So don't feel shy to post! We're a friendly group.
Gah. I've only gotten to see Akira maybe twice, back when Sci-Fi channel played anime Saturday mornings. (Why did they ever stop?!? Oh well, at least they put Forever Knight back on.)
azure turtle
04-04-2002, 01:26 PM

*Pops in from a world of her own*
Okay! I'm gonna be really stoopid for a moment. I am reletively new to anime, but I can remember watching Manga films at the YMCA. Are they the same things?
azure turtle
04-04-2002, 02:09 PM
Hmmm...I think so. "Manga" is usually the term for Japanese comic books, and "anime" is the term for animated shows. They're often tied together. For example, Dragonball started out as manga before it was turned into anime. I hope that helps
Nunchucker
04-04-2002, 02:12 PM
A bit Thankie Dankie. But why is it still sold as Manga out here? Hmmmmm go figure.
Exactly what I was going to say, Azure.
azure turtle
04-04-2002, 02:15 PM
*grins at Kali's approval*
It's sold as manga here, because it's got a distinct style that seperates it from other comic books. Probably the biggest difference is that manga is read from right to left, instead of left to right, as we're used to. Even the manga translations are often right to left. It's like reading a book backwards :goofygri:

Nah.. I just got the regular Akira (since this one was in the typical DVD case).
But... I too thought Manga was a brand of anime. The other films I have (like Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll) are actually dubbed as "Manga" features. Or is there a producer out there that also goes by that name? I guess 'chibifed cartoons' is what I think of when I think of anime. *shrug*
*wonders if we should make an Anime topic to drag this thread too*

Well, I'm 21, and I wish I was younger too... reminds me of an email I got a while back.. I dug it up... tell me what you guys think
Reverse Life Cycle:
The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends.
I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time.
What do you get at the end of it? A death.
What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards.
You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you
live in an old age home. You get kicked out when
you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work.
You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your
retirement. You do drugs, alcohol,
you party, you get ready for high school. You go to
grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no
responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into
the womb, you spend your last nine months floating
...you finish off as a giant orgasm.

Your "Life Cycle" is really interesting and it would be G-rated (or how do you call things for general exhibition?) if it were not for the last word.
hee hee, I didn't know Orgasm was a nyarty word.
I have a question. Why do we want our kids to call breasts "boobies" instead of breasts? and wee-wee instead of "penis"? These cutesy names are just as embarrassing if not more, than the actual names... so why the facade? Sorry, just my little thought for the day...

 I think someone should draw Azure in a kilt..................................
Whoops, my train of thought kinda de-railed there for a minute.
You know what would be really funny? (and maybe a little disturbing?) Raph in a skirt. Ooh! and fishnet hose!!
*snert* Both have been done. I drew Raph in a dress (and it was a PINK dress, too!) and Dawn's got a photo manip of him in fishnets a la Rocky Horror Picture show.
Azure in a kilt...? *raises an eyeridge* I'll pass on that one. I still don't like kilts.
Skeletoncrew

I think kilts are so sexy! I see a good-looking man in one and I want to find out what's underneath it!

Well now...it's one in the morning...I just found out that I did horrible on a math test that I took earlier today, that I spent three days studying for...and I've got a physics midterm later today at two in the afternoon. *sigh* Whatta way to spend my birthday, eh? Gee, thanks, everyone! I think I did all right in physics, but I won't say any more because I fear that I might jinx it  One of my friends surprised me today after my physics midterm by presenting me with a chocolate cake! She even used some frosting to draw a picture of Donatello on it! And get this...she bought me all kinds of old TMNT issues! She gave me graphic novels 1 and 4, a Mirage #2 second printing, and the Raphael one-shot first printing! I can't believe she went through so much trouble to find those for me...she's way too nice, but I thanked her vehemently.
Aw, that was so sweet of her. Glad that that test didn't totally bum out your birthday.

Ya, she's so nice. A very thoughtful person, too. I was bummed for the first part of my day, but after she gave me those presents and the cake, it really lifted my spirits! And everyone at the dorms started stopping by to greet me happy birthday when they found out about it...and they helped me eat the Donatello cake. I still have a huge chunk sitting on my desk, though. *sigh* Anyone hungry? :anime:
