I actually did find some animation from the show. Sure it's less than a second of it, but we get a look at the turtles.

I took some pics from my phone yesterday when I saw this... I was hoping to be the first to post it! Oh well....

If you have comcast or your cable offers Nick On Demand you can find this promo in better quality if you look up the Kids Choice Awards and go to the 31 minute mark of it. It's the first commercial they show there. I was so hyped when I saw it by accident! Someone should use video capture to get a better clip from the direct feed!

I think they look WAY better than the first couple images we were shown and will only get better. Note Mikey and Don's weapons in their original forms!

The little round heads and over-sized knee pads aren't really doing it for me, so I hope they fix those things.

For some reason their animation looks stiff, like the way Raph is standing with his pose. Not much articulation.

I realize this is early though, so whatever it may improve.

No problem. I LOVE the shell on Leo. They still look a little plain but it's better than any other images I've seen so far. At this point the animation becomes "at least watchable" for me. The older ones reminded me of PS2....

Way to short to judge it too hard but not digging it. Their heads look weird. They lack texture, which we saw in the promo pics, and it looks like a video game cut scene more then a series. I wish they stuck with 2D as well.

04-07-2011, 12:29 PM
I agree that something is off with the look....I kinda dig the varying size, but the head shapes and eyes definitely need some work. Why not stick with the more traditional look of the heads - increase the size of the lower half a bit so they don't look so round? And is it just me or does the single black dot within the whites of their eyes make them look hollow/soulless?? (Maybe they just look more, "fake" because of this..?) It reminds me of how I took a sharpie to my original action figures to give them a pupil, which ended up looking "off" as well....

While I think they can get the CG look right, I too would have preferred something closer to the look Alex has done on his own...

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vMxqA8Bz188/S84izx-E_6I/AAAAAAAAAg0/3U50AX3kzRo/s1600/deligiannis_TMNT_raph_train_sketch.jpg

This would have been so bad-a$$ and given Nick a new "look" that is both modern and faithful to all previous interpretations.

04-07-2011, 12:31 PM
I know it's only a nano-second of footage, but I really hope the heads are given more shape...The more I look at it, the more I really have a problem with the round heads and flat faces. Spitfire, I agree the heads lack texture, but I would say that goes for their whole body. The one thing the 2K7 movie did right was give the CG turtles texture. Can't we get something like that for the new series?

Less than 1 second footage gets its own topic, you can feel a level of hype on this boards not felt since the 2007 film. Maybe its because we had an entire year with basically nothing.

I haven't been around the forums for awhile but all the same I have been keeping tabs on the TMNT news. I was disappointed when I heard the initial whispers of a CGI cartoon. I was hoping for a turtles on par with the animated "Avatar the last Airbender" quality but I feel like we are getting something that doesn't even hold up to the "Penguins of Madagascar" (Visually)
Frankly, I can't get past the proportions. I had a similar issue with the 2007 movie. I do believe this looks like an even more drastic style change

I admit I haven't seen much and maybe I am being pessimistic but so far I am teetering on discouraged considering what I know Nickelodeon could give us.

I am not naive, I know they have to keep up with trends and budgets, also
Keep in mind this is coming from the person who's opinion continues to be that 2K3 was nearly perfect as far as artistic style. I am also strongly biased when it comes to traditional vs. CGI animation on television.

I would like to see height and build differences, I am against pupils, and I hope to see a healthy blend of goofy and serious subject matter.

I want and need to see more. I will give the series it deserved chance because I am at my core just happy we are getting another series but so far I am unimpressed...

On an unrelated note I am happy to post again, for however long it lasts ;), and its good to see so may familiar names around

I just feel the designs are just a bunch of circles, blocks, and really nothing to them. There could have been hundreds of designs they could have done, and they went with a horribly mediocre one, that is way to overly simplified for my taste. It looks blocky, and all jagged.

One of my few issues with it, why I say, Almost perfect or however I phrased it. The 4 of them were kinda "factory". I wish there were some character differences in body type, height, etc... I am sure it was easier for the animators which is also why we will see it commonly in CGI, one model, no problem

I'd say that's a larger issue in this new series from what we've seen then 2K3. To be honest compare the OT, to 2K3, to this and tell me which one looks the best. Of the animated TMNT stuff 2K3 looked the best visually. In this their heads are way too small and they're poorly render, in the cgi movie they look like geckos, and the OT they looked like balloons.

Could the style of 2K3 been better then it was? Sure it could have looked more like AC Farley's style, Dan, or maybe Doons, but as it stands it's easily the best looking of the animated turtles.

Ah, heck, what can I say? I'm a sucker for traditional hand-painted backgrounds. I gotta give Fred Wolf some love. Most of the backgrounds in the 4Kids show look more-or-less like assembly-line products: efficient, clean, and consistent... just without much individual personality or energy. I try to collect as many screenshots as I can find of clean, Old Toon backgrounds. Lovely stuff...

But OT/NT comparisons are really for another thread.

I said that I have a problem with the 2k3 proportions. I think that the proportions on the 2k7 and 2k12 Turtles looks just fine. It may be a larger issue for you but they are proportioned just fine in 2k12 to me.

Looking at these pictures from the one second of footage, the new TMNT look a lot better now that they're being shown in an environment with light effects and stuff.

Could the style of 2K3 been better then it was? Sure it could have looked more like AC Farley's style, Dan, or maybe Doons, but as it stands it's easily the best looking of the animated turtles.

All 2k3 needed from my end was a bit more visual grit and grain as well as some proportion changes in the Turtles themselves.

The one thing the 2K7 movie did right was give the CG turtles texture. Can't we get something like that for the new series?

not if it does not fit the style.

TMNT07 had a intense texture job on the turtles with pulsing veins and all, if the new show is too cartoony in style to have over done textures it'd just look bad.

Seeing the style they are using, they should have similar texture job like Fanboy & Chum Chum. And looking at the still shots from that blurry micro shot, it looks like that is the route their going for with the textures

I do agree that the heads look a little too round, and they look a bit bulky here. I think the 2K7 designs were pretty good for what they had. This does have more of a kiddish feel to the look.

I personally like the darker purple they gave Donny, and the darker blue they gave Leo. But to be completely honest, I thought Donny was in the forefront at first, too.

Can't say much for the designs yet, I honestly don't mind them so much as some here. The height differences are eh, but I can live with that...

New York Comic Con is more of a ''true'' comic convention.

There is a comic book con coming in Covington, Kentucky. It's next weekend in fact. April 16th and 17th. But I doubt anything big will be announced. Same weekend there's the Tri-Cities Toy and Hobby Show in Tennessee.

There's also Nashville Comic Con in October.

But those are small shows. Next big show is at the end of the month with Bot Con (Boston Comic Con) and Wizard World Anaheim. There'll be IDW folks at Bot Con so hopefully there'll be some news (maybe? ) about the comic series at least.

U can see the full schedule of upcoming cons here:

I second this...I don't quite get the "clay scupture" thing as being awesome. Why would we want them to look like that? The heads bug me as well. I'll wait to see some more definitive pictures though, once those are released.

I remember the first teaser posters we got of the 2007 TMNT designs, and I was not at all impressed....turned out that those were very early designs and the final product was MUCH better, IMO (especially in motion on screen).

bleah, I wasn't a fan of the TMNT movie designs. I didn't think they looked like Turtles, they looked like lizards or snakes. I don't think from what we've briefly seen so far the designs will change much or at all. They're already in production on making 26 episodes, i'm sure the designs are set. They might be able to change them in season 2 though.

I like to see how these clay designs move in action. The only thing i like so far is that they do look like 15 year olds so I think the little kids will like them.

.....wha???

Jester, that's a great question. I definitely prefer a longer bandanna, and hopefully they'll have something ala the 2k3 series as opposed to the 87' version. I certainly hope they don't have it so short that you can't even see it unless standing directly behind them. :teek:

Good catch! I knew something aside from the roundness of the head looked strange.

Lengthy and tattered bandanas all the way.

The just need to add some lines that are not rounded but maybe curved to straightened around the cheeks and chin

I will repeat as well I don't care for masks and pupils

How about we get a comment from someone who saw the action figured. Short or long ends on the masks? What did the figures feature?

Not to be all Debbie Downer, but it's amazing to me how much this picture is more or less what 90% of all TMNT fans want and feel like the Turtles should look like... And yet how far away from this the new Nickelodeon designs actually are. :ohwell:

So, after reading it again, you two obviously were mistaken and thought that I was referring to the picture she posted, when I was referring to the original picture I posted. I'm not at all trying to be snarky, but if you read the thread again, I think you'll see. Anyway, regardless....no need for attitude.

I think we're all getting off-base here.

Do we have confirmation on toenails yet? If they don't have toenails it'll be hard to accept them as the REAL TMNT.

When the first trailer of the new series will be released? the series is starting in a year and still no trailer!

I think it will be a while, I am entirely speculating on this but I would guess a couple months before the show actually airs we can expect full commercial trailers.

Gearing things toward kids, attention spans and all, they may not want to advertise too early and allow the excitement to peak and wear off before the show even airs.

it also depends how they want to advertise it, they might have some campaign planned.

Yeah, I agree with this. People might see things at Comic Con first, and they might do a trailer early next year, but it depends.

But I like them without toenails!

Well then obviously you haven't read the mirage splinter/savanti romero double shot #4 where they explain that toenails are essential to the turtle's ninja prowess.

Duh.

Well I prefer the first 5 issues because they are more hardcore and indie, after that it just went mainstream:P
