I guess it's thread worthy, according to Powder.
From what I can tell, these are eight storyboard pages from the official "pilot" that was shown to the elect members of the TMNT fandom a few months back!

They love chasing Mikey!"
*Mikey runs into panel*
That actually made me laugh out loud. Was unexpected, and if I had been drinking milk, it would've came outta my nose and all over my laptop. Luckily, I wasn't drinking milk.

From what I gather the episode is about an ipod Donny made from scrap metal that turns into Baxters suit.
So there is probably some focus on him in there.

So the Turtles are strong enough to pull a robot to the ground with chains? And then they cheer, "We did it?"
I bet if PL was reviewing these, he's suggest some changes. He'd also nitpick the part where it says, "Turtles pull with all there strength" and tell them to correct, "there," with "their."

I wouldn't blame him; one would think proper grammar would be considered, regardless of whether or not this (the story board art) was to see release.
What we see here is not very impressive.

Okay, they need Peter Laird or Eastman on this. Seriously. Or just bring a decent writer of serious movies/shows (Action or adventure, NOT comedy).
To me, this looks pretty lame.
'WE DID IT!'?! - No, stop.
Like someone else said earlier, it really does sound like the 4Kids mini-series. Without the corrections Laird made.
Stockman looks pathetic, and I really get the feeling they're gonna make him white. But we can't tell at the moment, obviously.
The way they defeat Stockman is the exact same way the '03 Turtles defeated him in Return to New York part 3. (He came back immediately after that, btw. I'd say: make this new Stockman badder-ass than the '03 one, but according to these storyboards, they're not gonna do that at all).
Can't they think of something original?
The dialogues disappoint me, and the grammar isn't that good either. I suck at grammar, but I could easily point it out in these storyboards. Their and there. Really?
It's also really cliché, how Mike comes running to the other turtles wanting to tell them about Stockman's weapon but then gets interrupted by that exact thing. Again, can't they think of something original?
We've seen that joke soooo many times, I'm extremely tired of it. And I'm probably not the only one.
I'd prefer the Turtles calling Splinter actually 'Splinter' or maybe even 'Father'.
Not 'Sensei'. They're supposed to be family.
They should change this: 'Like sensei said: Don't fight the machine, fight the guy inside the machine.'
To this: 'Like Splinter said: Don't fight the machine, fight the guy inside it.' (IMO this flows a lot better).
And if it's meant to be symbolic or with a deeper meaning, maybe:
'Like Splinter said: Don't fight the mask, fight/reach the person behind the mask.'
This means if someone acts like something he's not to defend himself or out of fear or something, reach out to the person he really is. And then the turtles interpret this as 'fighting the guy in the machine.' (My English-skills are not fully developed, nor will they ever be, so these dialogues may sound a bit weird in English.)
'And one thing we know about bad guys...' > 'And if there's one thing we know about bad guys...'
When the missile attacks, they just go lay on the ground. Would be cooler if they actually dodge and jump away, like ninja.
Some dialogue by Baxter would be really neat when he's searching for the Turtles. He could be saying they should show themselves, and calling them 'mutant FREAKS!' or something.
Just offending them would be good.
Or something like 'Come out, come out, wherever you're hiding! I want to PLAY!'
When he makes the angry face, he could threaten the Turtles, and saying they won't be able to hide forever or that they will never defeat him. That would make the sneak-attack a lot better.
I wanna see dialogue by Stockman when he gets attacked, hopefully that'll be there. Also dialogue by the Turtles while defeating Stockman.
As I made clear before: 'We did it!' is really lame.
Also it doesn't make sense. Stockman isn't defeated, is he? He just fell. They could make the StockmanPod break it's legs, though. But just falling shouldn't defeat him.
Then again, these are just storyboards. Nothing detailed, I'm just talking about what I can see RIGHT NOW.
I'm disappointed. They're gonna have to make A LOT of changes to make me satisfied.

Children are really not that stupid people think they are. ATLA was made with kids in mind, and that became a huge succes. And that show is NOT simplistic. It really does have deeper meanings, and a LOT of children can point those out.
Here in The Netherlands we have a show called 'Huis Anubis', which other countries bought from us. In the UK it's called 'The House of Anubis', I believe. It's pretty dark (In The Netherlands that is, in the UK not so much) and not simplistic at all. And still, children get it and love it.
It's being made for children, not idiots that don't understand anything.

Storyboard:
Storyboard or graphical script is a set of illustrations shown in sequence with the aim of serving as GUIDE to understand a history, to PREVISUALIZE an animation or to follow the structure of a film BEFORE being realised or filming themselves. Storyboard is essentially a great series of emblems that order the narration of the facts of a film. It is used like PREVIOUS PLANNING to the shooting of scenes and sequences; in him one determines the type of frame and the angle of view that is going away to use. It as guide serves the director; however, he can detach and segment his shooting without strictly following the order logical of the plot.

I saw the storyboards. I just want to say that I'm excited! :tgrin: I did see the grammatical errors, but I knew what was supposed to be written. Also, these are storyboards. These can change anytime. The turtles look great, Baxter looks great, but I'm still waiting for Splinter and Shredder! :tgrin: Also I really don't have a problem with Leo saying, "We did it!" I have a feeling this is not the end of the story. Somehow, Baxter is going to come out of that robot with a weapon in hand, and Raph is going to say, "You were saying, Fearless Leader?" Then that's when the turtles take out their weapons to fight the evil scientist. :tgrin: If some things are taken from previous TMNT incarnations, I can't say that's unoriginal. I say it's cool because it's TMNT, and we are familiar with whatever is used. Still, I would have loved to see the storyboards for the show when the turltes are using their weapons. They didn't even use them here. I'm just hoping it's not like the original movies where they throw pizza or cold cuts at the bad guys.:tlol: Hopefully, this generation likes to see characters use some sort of weapons. Kids shows have changed today, especially since the 2k3 series will be on Nicktoons.
I'm having hope that this show will be a mix of the OT and the 2k3 series: Some silly comedy, with serious action and adventure.
Also, how can I meet this storyboard artist? I have a lot of questions I'd like to ask him.
After looking at this, I must say, it is not the Donnie Show. It's just one scene. Besides, Leo had a big role in this layout. I wanted more Mikey and Raph, though. Still, I can't wait!:tcool:

I love that some people are tearing apart the grammar and dialogue on these storyboards. Having done storyboards in the past, that's exactly what they are - storyboards. Dialogue will be scripted and may or may not match what's on the boards.
I think the boards look fine. Also, the show seems to be evolving a lot more of the "wacky" aspect that I was afraid it wouldn't have. I was an early naysayer on this whole project and had no intention of following it, but I have to admit the more I see, the more I like it.

I enjoyed the storyboard and Mikey's bit was funny. :tlol:
The one thing I will say to folks who aren't satisfied right now (which a lot of folks have said already), it's a storyboard and an unedited one as far as I can see. As someone who was an intern who had to scan, rescan and tweaked storyboards, I can second cartoonistaaron's comment.
These things get changed, added on and cut a ridiculous amount of times. Storyboard artists, the director and the production department (and whoever else I am forgetting) will probably fuddle with this in one day more than they'll change their underwear in one week (assuming they change their underwear every night. I don't know, I'm rather cleanly).

I really hate this statement. So just because we're getting a crappy cartoon I should be happy there's even one at all? I would sooner be happy if we had none at all than to have this. I would be happy if the whole thing were scrapped; redesign the turtles, redone in traditional animation; not CGI, and no lame dialogue cheers of "We did it!" I was just thinking the same thing about the "We did it!" line. However, I'll disagree with you about the animation. CGI makes certain things look realistic. The turtles look amazing. I don't want this show scrapped. I did not like the TMNT in traditional animation as much as I liked them in CGI form. So I have some hope in this project. :tsmile:

Anyway, I'm actually liking the look of this so far. Could use a bit of work on some of the dialogue and a tad more seriousness, but this is an unfinished storyboard for a pitch pilot, so it's obviously unfinished. What scares me is that reminds me of a song they sing at the end of every episode of Dora the Explorer. I pray to God the Turtles don't start singing every time they have a victory.
Oh and before anyone remarks that I'm a grown man watching Dora the Explorer, please bear in mind I only watch it when spending time with my 5 year-old niece. I'm hoping to get her interested in more gender neutral cartoon shows like Charlie Brown and Looney Tunes.

Actually, everybody Leo Mystic is right. This show sucks. The animation is horrible, the voice acting is sub-par and the stories are moronic. Who needs an actual episode to make those assumptions? It's patently obvious now that this show is going to make NT:TNM look like the best show ever to air on American TV, ABC's Cavemen.
Finally, a REASONABLE bad review... Take notes, everyone.

My problem with these "opinions," is that they seem premature. We only have early character designs, early storyboards, early everything. The show is more than a year away. Lighten up. I can understand people saying the show sucks once it airs, but we really have no way of knowing if it sucks until then. Unless you have a Delorian on hand, we don't know about.

Yes, but even the early stuff can still have a big impact on its presentation. From the toy fair pictures in the other thread, it seems that is the character design they are going to stick with and I don't like them. The new storyboards have not done anything at all to impress me or change my mind on this. The BTTS designs look great in comparison and they are the second of the worst three redesigns of the 4Kids' series, counting Turtles Forever, in my opinion.
Hell, if they had to have it in CGI, the TMNT CGI movie designs would be okay by me. I'd at least try to give it a shot then because they're aren't so bad looking actually. It's the same reason I have never watched the third live action movie because I can't get past looking at the fugly costumes on the cover to want to try to.
Look, it's just like if you went to a restaurant. You're going to order something that looks or sounds good, right? I would think you wouldn't want to order raw squid marinated in something found in a baby's diaper. :trazz:

Wait, there are pictures of the toys? Where?
Really...we're going to use a "Would you eat the contents of a baby diaper?" argument? That I know is crap...besides how often does the food on the plate actually look like the menu? Those pictures are the most meticulously staged pictures ever.
I see this like a stew, that you don't like the ingredients on their own, but once you taste it, you actually enjoy it....maybe.

*sighs* It was not the context in which he took it. I was trying to create an image of something totally unappetitizing. Not making an argument would you eat the actual contents of a diaper.

I agree with everything Jester has said here. It's the same as the people in the other thread complaining about the voice actors before they have even heard them as the characters.
If you want to do a food analogue, it's like you are complaining about a pasta dish before they put the sauce on it to finish it. You just have noodles and an idea of what the dish may taste like, but you don't have the full experience.
I can't stop anyone here from thinking anything, but it would really save everyone a lot of grief if they just wait to see what the show actually is. Then if you want to hate it, feel free.

Yes, and it just seemed odd to me because we never see what he does exactly for a living. We see him trying to break into a building in a crapy robotic outfit but nothing is really explained.
He goes back to work for revenge at one point but it's never stated what his place of employment was. It looked like your every day cubicle office to me.

I don't think you understand me. I wasn't saying that this show will be simplistic and not dark, you know. Someone said that this show is made with kids in mind, so it will probably be simplistic. I just wanted to say that kids are not as stupid as people think they are, and actually cán understand deeper meanings and you don't have to stupify shows made for children.

You're right. I re-read your post. You were complaining that we were really hard to please, and that as far as the simplicity goes, we should remember this is being made with children in mind.
I thought you meant that I (and maybe other people) wanted it less simplistic, but then children wouldn't really get it or it wouldn't be right for children to watch. After that I said: Kids aren't as stupid as many people think they are, they can understand less simplistic subjects or storylines.

All I know is you're reading way too far into it... I'm not suggesting kids are dumb (and clearly you agree seeing how you keep repeating yourself in every post), but rather that for their attention to be kept, it's easier to keep some of the dialogue simple. I myself think "We did it!" is far better than "By the gods & graces of this limitless universe, I think that this dark scenario in which we've recklessly endeavored upon the stage of life has finally reached its end...".

I'll have to agree that kids are not stupid. It's just we don't want things to be complicated for them or in that case, inappropriate. "We did it!" is a better line, but I'd sure like to hear them say, "Alright. Good work guys!" after that.

You must be only looking at thumbnails if you have to ask. :P Left-click on the pic to see it full-size.
Um, I think that clicking on it to make it full-sized is what I did, but I was running short on time at the library (really, REALLY short on time (PLUS which, my eyes were kinda bothering me)), so I really didn't have the time to look at him closer. Which I WILL do shortly today.
EDIT: Well, I rechecked that one storyboard with the closeups of Baxter in it (this one: [...] ), and he does, indeed, have a mustache. (Not surprising, really, as he had one in Volume One of the Mirage comics series.)
ANOTHER thing that I noticed, upon looking at these again, and specifically the FIRST of these ([...]) is that if you look really closely at their feet (which honestly look like HOOVES to me, rather than the Turtles feet that we've long been used to)) in the first three panels, if you look really, REALLY closely, you can see the three toes that they'll each have. (STILL not liking that, but I guess that I'll slowly get USED to it, I guess. Still NOT gonna DRAW them with three toes when I draw them, though, but that's just me.)

Indeed.....
A lot of pilots are not meant to be aired, they're eventually released somehow and yeah those pilots aren't usually a first episode but instead its just meant to show the tone of the show to the suits. The tone of the pilot can be a little different, from the actual show, usually the show is better written and not as simple.

Really. It's funny, though. My parents have told me that along time ago. But still, I count a few pilots as the series premieres. A few would include Gilmore Girls (My mother used to watch that :tlol:), Smallville, Pushing Daisies, and of course The Big Bang Theory. The season premiere of 24 was only called "12:00 AM-1:00 AM."
So the pilot for Supah Ninjas (Ew) was not the series premiere. It makes me wonder; what will be the series premiere of the TMNT be if it's not the pilot?

Hmmmm, true dat, to all of it.
OR I could just use the "Custom" size thing in "Print Preview" and just keep going down in size til it fits the page, but is a size big enough to read them.
Still, your suggestion to divide them by frame makes sense, too. THAT way, I could print out each frame individuallly and either put them in seperate sheet protectors pages in a binder, OR put 'em all together and make one big poster for my wall. Either way works. I've always found everyone on that show pretty dumb. Dora is definitely one of them since she doesn't even know how to use a map correctly or determine the difference between a square and circle.
I'm not sure what you mean by counting a few pilots as the series premieres... The Big Bang Theory pilot has different actors than what originally aired... Also Sheldon isn't as "nerdy" in the pilot as he is in the series...

A pilot is pretty much a prototype of a television show, shown to networks to see if they will buy it or not. Its pretty much saying 'this is what we are going for, in terms of vibe, characters, storyline, style, etc'. A lot of the time there will be different actors playing characters, parts of the story changed, etc. I think you're getting 'pilot' and 'first episode' mixed up. Now, i'm not saying that there aren't shows out there that have used the pilot for the first episode, but they are still totally different things.

People can go ahead and quit bitching about the "We did it" thing.
I was watching the OT the other day (either The Big Blow Out or the Big Break In) and Leo says "we did it!" at one point.... Playing "Mutant Nightmare" this morning, and guess what one of Leo's line's is? "We did it!".
What's Leo say after they beat Shredder in the first movie? "We were awesome!"
Leonardo always says stuff like that, get over it.
^ Sounds like someone has much anger towards Dora.
Only thing I didn't like about it was that there was no apparent reason for them to celebrate. So, they pulled BaxPod down. What's to keep him from getting back up and wreaking more havoc?

Not to over-analyze but I'm guessing at this point they've not had many real fights outside of training, so excitement ensues...

I hope we get the word on what happened at Comic Con once it arrives. I'm tired of waiting.

Mikey's always been the decoy though, even in the OT he would be the one to dress up as something (sometimes as a female) and get chased.

by my count, he did that ONCE in season two, and he didn't even want to dress up like a female. I think fans over embelish how much a "decoy" Mikey is 80's toon.
But actually I don't mind him being a decoy so much I just don't want him to be as retarded as CGI movie Mikey was.

:tlol::tlol::tlol::tlol: Good one, Jester. You make a point.
And stop thinking that Mike acts like a moron, people. He's just different than the rest. I don't mind his dopey side, and I think he has his moments of being intelligent. Give Mikey a break. He may be a lot better in this show. If not, at least the kids will enjoy him.

...But he does, unfortunately, in both 2k3 & TMNT. Arguably in The Next Mutation as well.

The only problem with that logic is: "And one thing we know about bad guys? They like chasing Mikey".

Baxter probably = their first bad guy. In the beginning of the episode he probably chases Mikey. That's what they have to go by.

That would explain why the artist answered all of my questions short of "Are these official? Are you working with Nickelodeon on the show?".

Yep, sorry, everyone. The request to remove those came down from Nick to the artist to us. You're welcome to continue discussing them, just please don't post any of the images again or discuss where you originally found them.

That's a fair request. I feel bad for the original artist who probably assumed he had the freedom to share his work and then got the warning from on high. I certainly didn't want to cause him any trouble when I started this thread.

This is similar to the pizza box thread when people posted the information about the Nick screening, and then it had to be removed...it's not your fault, Winters.

Oh, I don't feel guilty. Isn't there a commercial that says, "What happens on the internet... stays on the internet"?
I just feel bad that an artist might have been punished on account of showing off some samples of his work. And then there is the lingering notion in the back of my mind that if I had kept the links to myself for a while, that he might have posted other storyboards as well. :-D

It's the internet. If it wasn't you it'd have been Rose...or Archon...or anyone of the other TMNT news bloggers.

Depends on what you consider "official," I suppose. Legal property of Nick/Viacom? Yeah, Rose confirmed these were the ones seen at the fan preview event a few months back. Evidence of what we might actually see in an actual episode? Maybe, maybe not.

...only to find out after much "IT WAS SO COOL BUT WE CAN'T SHARE IT OMAIGAWD" that they actually c ould share most of the information.
So, should I assume that Toon just meant that unauthorized = UNofficial? O_o I'm still trying to figure that one out.
