I won't spoil IDW's take on the Turtles origins here simply because some people here may not have read the comic yet, but let's just say they changed a lot.
In this series we know Splinter is Hamato Yoshi again, meaning it could be more similar to the original cartoon's origin story. However I still highly suspect Yoshi will be Saki's rival in Japan and they'll both be members of the Foot Clan.
In a way, I think Nick's TMNT origin will be more similar to the Mirage and/or Fred Wolf cartoons than anything else.

I really don't give a damn. We've had, what, like 6 versions of the same origin over and over? A change of pace can't do too much harm.
The only change that would really bust my banana would be if the turtles started out as humans, but I don't think that will be the case.

The origin story has never been exactly the same in each version. Compare the 4kids origin story with Yoshi as a guardian for the Utroms and Shredder killing him the way he did.
Then look at the old toons origin story, with Yoshi being expelled from the Foot Clan and fleeing to America.
Its really only the Movies that kept the origin story similar to the Mirage comics...

I said versions but I guess I should've said variations. 'Tis what I meant. They all have the same Yoshi theme, basically.

Well that was a defining moment of the Turtles origin.
It'd be as if Batman's origin was changed and his parents were no longer gunned down at age 8, or if Superman was no longer from planet Krypton, or if Spiderman was no longer Peter Parker and was instead a black/hispanic kid....oh wait....the last one actually happened.
