Some guy named Adam Lucas who works on the TMNT of Nickelodeon posted some ANIMATION of the new show on his blog! Look at it yourself:

Are you sure this is related to the new show? Didn't really look like the new turtles.

I was thinking the same

That's pretty awesome. If you pause it just right you can get a pretty good look at the Triceraton. Hopefully they're still a part of the show (this could be a proof-of-concept sort of thing).

I'm not sure if that's a tail I see on Raph, or what. Though I think you might be talking about the Triceraton.

Animatics like this rarely look much like the end-product.

I didn't notice them, but now that I'm pausing in the right spots, they're definitely there. I would have been ok with the tails, but a part of me is kind of glad they didn't make the cut for the final designs. As much sense as it makes to give them tails, it could make for some awkward looking shots...

Edit: Given how long this has been on the net, I'm kind of surprised it took this long to get noticed. I still think it's from the new show. If I'm not mistaken, the show's been in the works for a while now, and things like this would have been made early on in the process.

Edit2: Thinking about it, the fact it's been online for so long and hasn't been taken down by Nick does worry me a little. Though maybe they thought that having it taken down would just bring attention to it?...maybe? It doesn't exactly give anything away about the show, other than the possibility of Triceraton's making an appearance, and that at one point the turtle designs had tails (that is, assuming this is an animatic from the new show).

Based on our past experience with storyboards for the show, I don't think Nickelodeon would tolerate an employee posting some to their personal blog.

I would have to agree.

Right after I posted this thread I noticed that these storyboards were posted over a year ago. But I think it's legit - the guy who posted this actually works on Nick's TMNT (source: bryankonietzko.tumblr.com) Could still be that this isn't from the actual show though...

I quote Bryan Konietzko: ''The TMNT crew had a group show in the art gallery at Nickelodeon with a “girl” theme. I thought one of the girls looked familiar! Turns out it was a fan art piece by Adam Lucas, former storyboard revision artist on Korra, and current storyboard artist on TMNT. Based on the stairwell setting and her Naota-like boots, I like to think of this as a mash-up between FLCL and Korra, something I fully support. I’d like to see more of that mash-up!

Adam is the creator of the comic Goldilock. He moved out from Virginia to work on Korra, his first gig in animation.''

What I noticed (aside from the date) is Raph's feet looking more human than tree trunk.

It's definately cool but like others, I am skeptical on whether or not it is from 2k12. None the less it is a neat find.:tsmile:

If you go to the blog post that the video's referencing, you can see the storyboards all laid out. Link to original post:

And here's links to each individual storyboard. The third page has extra frames, with close-ups of the Triceraton!

In the '90s, I would have considered something 14 months old as "new", but its somewhat of an oxymoron. Its possible that this material was cut anyways if Nick didn't take down the videos. Its not even CGI, too.

You're right. It is new for all of us though.

This is what's called an "animatic". When people make a cartoon, first they block out the action in the script on a "story board", which is like a big comic strip that details all the scenes they're going to make. Then, they take all the drawings from the "story board", and put it together into an "animatic", which shows all the drawings in sequence, in their proper timing.

So, even if it's for a CGI cartoon, the "story board" and the "animatic" are usually hand-drawn. Even in Pixar movies, they hand-draw their story boards. It's a way to see how everything flows before doing the actual animation. :tgrin:

:::EDIT::: Oops, Gobo beat me to it. lol.

Err... "usually", huh? What other options are there?

Sometimes, they'll block out scenes using CGI mannequins. That can also be considered an "animatic". Extremely stiff, not fully-rendered, usually gray-scale.

another way to make an animatic in CGI is to just plain boxes for character placement
