View Full Version : How old are you?

Having been a lifelong fan of sci-fi and fantasy, I'm always filed with a sense of sadness when my buddies grow up on me. I've collected comics and toys since the age of 5 and growing older has only led to more expensive collecting like Master Replica lightsabers, Gentle Giant busts and statues, movie props, hard to find graphic novels / collected editions, toys from the 70s and 80s, and my new passions include novice level figure customizing and diorama building. I also enjoy table top RPGs like Pathfinder and am working on running a Cyberpunk/Palladium TMNT hybrid game for a local group of friends.

I work as a Psychiatric Nurse in Lethbridge Alberta, but at the age of 40 I sometimes wonder if I should have moved on from all this. Is this normal? or am I stuck in a life stage that should have ended by now?

So my question is... are there any other mid-lifers here? How old are y'all?

I'm 32, not only do I like nerd stuff, but I still go to cons and cosplay. You're never too old to do something you enjoy. (Unless you're hurting others anyway.)

Well I just turned 33 but I feel the same way, enjoy what you love to do as much as you can while you can, life is short.

I'm 29 and will be thirty in February. It's going to be a bit of a milestone for me, but I still enjoy having fun and watching cartoons. You're never too old to love that stuff. Remember, age is just a number and nothing more.

Now that I have children they need a good role model right?

Great responses. Thanks guys! :) Must have been looking for some validation the other night. Moving to a new city, I'm now settled with the work situation and looking for like minded pals. Not hard to find a click in Calgary with 1.2 million people but Lethbridge is just shy of 100 thou. Need a shout out from TMNT Canadian. lol I was hard core turtle fan in the mid to late eighties and getting back into it now has been an absolute joy. In the interest of giving credit, it's really been a recent need for nostalgia and the beautiful work of Discogod and Salemcrow that inspired me to try new hobbies. Want to give thanks for that.
So seriously... am I the oldest of the herd..

Well I skipped straight to page 2 when I first came to this thread. So I missed this amazing opening comment. Personally, I think its awesome that you've held onto your sci-fi, fantasy side. Hope I do, wish I knew more forty year olds that had a more interesting side to them. Seriously, its like move onto what?

Football, guns and ammo, playing the stock market, and slot machines? I think you could do the family thing, work a job, and keep your sci-fi roots! Plus I'm sure your collection is collecting value, maybe more than "normal" investments. Btw, that rpg sounds amazing!

I'd love to see your finished game one day! Not sure if your familiar with the 2k3 series, but check this episode out, it might provide some helpful inspiration your table top. \/\/\/
:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMwtQmB6L_Y :P
Season 3 episode 21 "Same As It Never Was", it has an amazing fan made intro. Donnie gets thrown into this crazy future parallel world.

I think the episode would have been better if splinter would have traveled into this future world. I really wanted to see a cyborg Donatello done right. Something a bit less bulky than in the image comics would have been nice. So if you do a cyborg Donnie and you chose to share this rpg, please keep that in mind! This might be to personal, feel kind of rude asking this... Your not a forty year old virgin are you? =P jk Don't answer that it might get too weird!

Turning 29 on December 31st.

Age is nothing to me, though. I don't get that 'older' feeling. I honestly still feel like a teenager.

I throw on my CM Punk wrist bands and shirt or wear my Hot Rod shirt and leather jacket when I go to live wrestling events. I give 0 ***** how other people perceive that.

Yeah, same here. I love wrestling and TMNT, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. If people want to judge me for it, screw them. I like what I like. Age is just a number and nothing more. I feel that being an adult goes with how you act towards others and not about what you're into as a fan of something.

29! My mother in law asked me when I was going to 'grow up'. I smiled politely while wearing one of my many tmnt tshirts and answered 'never?' she was not amused! ;)
I still read comics and love cartoons. I'm old enough to just be me and be ok with it.

18 here.

Seems like most are in their early to mid 20s. I guess that would make sense considering when the timing of the 87 show, which I obviously wasn't around for. I ended up getting into TMNT seriously just before the 2003 show aired, but thanks to the original site I got pretty much all caught up.

I miss that site.

I am 32, I love this stuff... I have no regrets.. I have a blast sharing this stuff with my kids... I have a sexy wife (also 32) who looks like she is in her 20s (blessed with those young looking Asian genes) Soooo.. I guess being a nerd who watches cartoons and buys toys for himself AND his kids has not hurt me any... Im sure there are people who think im immature because of it.. but I dont care.. I mean.. some people like to play fantasy football or really get into American Idol.. whats the difference?

23 over here. Kind of nice for once not being considered an old fogie. Was just a little too young to follow the OT, not to mention I preferred watching Ponies at the time, but was at just the right age to be totally brainwashed by the first film to never truly leave the Turtles altogether.

Going through this thread made me feel at ease. I've been stressing out lately because it seems everyone around me is on my back about my "cartoons" and "toys" these days

I realize that, like many said before, age doesn't matter as long as you're enjoying what you're doing and not hurting anyone by doing it. But sometimes it is easier said than done!

Today I turn 28 and get this...
Have never been on a first date with anyone, period.

Quite a scary thought that Mona Lisa, several days younger than me, already has two kids (my first cousin, eight months older than me already has three, and I showed him my Turtle blimp essentially being the closest to a father in my life). If anything, being behind in the dating game makes me feel older than if I was a father at this age like my own father was already with me. I just don't follow most new pop culture like I use to, and balk at the thought of declining manners as I perceive it to be.

Trivia: I share the exact same birthday as Vampire Diaries star Zach Roerig.
