So... apparently the original TMNT Arcade gets a shout-out (of sorts) in the movie.

Looks like they went to the trouble to create all-new side art but they blurred out the name (perhaps out of legal concerns). Weird.

This was the most recent trailer, but it looks like it's a dead link now.

I just felt like it was news-worthy enough to warrant it's own thread.

That is so awesome! Makes me wish the TMNT themselves would appear in Wreck-It Ralph. :tgrin:

Man, Disney's really getting ballsy with these pop culture references.

Well you can actually see a little bit of Leo there.. But I find it really strange that they would have gotten Nintendo and Capcom on board and not the TMNT.

Not sure if that's supposed to be Donatello or Leonardo.

I think the cameo is cool, but legally can Disney even do this without the permission of Viacom? The logo (although blurred) is obviously TMNT, and the picture of the character on the cabinet is not generic at all, it is 100% a Ninja Turtle!

The design of this arcade cabinet differs from the original, so they could have just drawn a different design. Its clear why part of the name is blurred. Still, looking at that photo is like a trip back to 1989 before redemption games and online play were dominant.

Uh. Why? Nintendo and Capcom are video game companies and its a movie about video games. Why would they go after TMNT in the first place?

There are a number of classic video game cabinets in those screenshots which I'm surprised they would have bothered to get legal clearance to use.
There is a Star Wars Arcade cabinet directly across from the TMNT game, and a Tapper game behind it.

Frogger is against the back wall, which is apparently under the Konami umbrella at the moment (I think). So maybe Disney did strike a deal with Konami which gave them semi-access to the TMNT cabinet likeness?

Does Konami still hold all the rights to the TMNT arcade game, or would Disney have to go through them and Nick to legally use the game in Wreck-It Ralph?

It's complicated, if I remember. Didn't Ubisoft (had the license at the time) and Konami (still owned the rights to their vintage games... but maybe not all the original music) have to work together to get the Turtles in Time Reshelled and XBOX Live Arcade projects legal?

I feel like if they can get Sonic and Bowser, they could swing TMNT. Maybe they got rights for the machine to appear in the movie, but not in promotions. Or maybe the game and the logo are owned by different entities, and they only got the rights to display the game.

These things are so fast, especially this "cameo" that unless you are really looking for it, you aren't going to see it. Besides, even if Disney doesn't have the legal means, who is going to take Disney to court?

No doubt this cameo it's because of the popularity that theTMNT arcade game had in the good old days, Disney is using all the nostalgia they can to hype their movie, and its working =D

Pac-Man is there, too, as well as Frogger.

You know, the Pac-Man ghost appears at the press conference with Ralph and several other characters.

What do you think will happen to the arcade when Ralph leaves his game to become a hero?

Not exactly. It could really go either way (based on Donny's 2k3 colors).

I also thought the skin tone appears to more closely resemble the 2k3 Donatello. But it's really hard to tell. Lighting in Arcades is always strange!

LOL, you know what's the biggest nostalgia trip of the whole movie....?

That an arcade facility actually exists ...at least now a days in the U.S.A. (unlike Japan).
The prevalence of arcades is 10% today compared to its heyday in the 80s to early 90s.

Most arcades never had a game that featured Sonic the Hedgehog or Bowser either... unless you count the semi-obscure Nintendo Play-Choice and SegaSonic the Hedgehog.

I wanna say I've seen Mario Kart cabinets, but then again if that's the case we wouldn't have Sugar Rush.

Ah, I forgot about that! Yes, I think Namco and Nintendo co-op'd to put some of those in arcades. I saw one in my local Wal-Mart a few years back.

I wanna say I've seen Mario Kart cabinets, but then again if that's the case we wouldn't have Sugar Rush.I played a Mario Kart arcade machine once! It was at Disney World, in the Toy Story themed Pizza Planet restaurant. It was set up like any racer - you sit in it, with steering wheel and pedals. It was really old, but it had a coin collection element like Mario Kart 7 does now. That was only this past Christmas, so it might still be there.

I was surprised too when i saw that arcade cabinet doing a brief cameo and it was neat to see one of the best arcade games do an appearance.

What's the point of having the arcade there when their just gonna slad certain essential parts of it. Isn't that kind of visual unpleasantries just bad business? Moreover, they could might as well avoid using the tmnt arcade machine if they aren't going to show it as a whole.
