I know know we are not kids anymore and those good days are all gone by, but lets go back in time…
In 1988 the tmnt toy universe was born with action figures and vehicles and thousand of stories could be created using our imagination, especially if we got the 4 original turtles, Splinter, Shredder, and company.
As the time passed, we were glad to add new members for each side like Casey Jones, Genghis Frog and Krang, Baxter Stockman among many others. Many of them were familiar faces and many were not….
And after seeing this old tmnt commercial for the disguised turtles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz4IXxw4S7U, I started to think…What about the variants? The so called disguised turtles?
The tmnt had dozens of them, with the first ones (I am not forgetting the Wacky action series) being Leo The Sewer Samurai, Don The Undercover Turtle, Mike The Sewer Surfer and Raph, The Space Cadet., then it came the Sports Turtles, Sewer Spitting, Birthday, Turtle games, and the list goes on and on…
I always tried to avoid these variants and I used to complain a lot about why no more tv characters come up in figures instead. I promised myself to never buy any variant of the four 1988 turtles (not even the 1992 Movie Stars!)
All that changed forever on my birthday when an old friend of mine, appeared with a Skateboardinfor present. First I used it a lot with Mondo Gecko in skate competitions and when I started to see all the figure details (in both the packaging and the figure sculpt) I realized how wrong I was.
The Tmnt variants are great, the sculpts, packaging art, weapons, all makes them a must have for every tmnt collector. and I started to relieve that it wasnñt so hard to included them in our stories, in fact it would even help youu to create new stories. For example: a vacation in the Beach would incluye the Sewer Spitting, a competion would incluye the Sports turtles, etc
So what do you think? Was it good to included these variants? If the answer is yes, then How do you used to play with those disguised turtles
