You know, there was a time when I only considered relevant a few vehicles from the vintage original toyline (the Turtle Party Wagon, Turtle Blimp, Turtle Cycle, Cheapskate and that was it) but when you became a true tmnt collector (or insane) that changes forever

I love the majority of the tmnt vehicles from the original toy line, the design, scultp, details, decals, each vehicle unique features and unique toybox art and the ultra creative extras that came inside each of them, like the secret sewer maps, the jokebooks, the pizza point catalogs, the posters, etc and if Michaelangelo (my favourite Turtle) is involved then better.

So we have Mike´s Pizza Chopper Backpack (perfect for regular 1988 Mike or 1991 Storage Shell version), Mike´s Kowabunga Surf Buggy (perfect for 1992 Beachcombin Mike) but we dont have Michaelangelo´s Sidewalk Surfer which appeared in the 1992 Playmates Toy Catalog, as you can see in these three potos.

This toy was never produced….is that all true?
Yes….and No, cause we have 1991 Toxic Turf Surfer from the Toxic Crusaders made by Playmates as you can see below

So the Sidewalk Surfer would have been a repainted version of the Toxic Turf Surfer (with some changes of course).

I never knew the real reason why this toy didn´t hit the toy shelves, considering they already have the mold and it have been already been mass produced in the form of the Turf Surfer.

"Like, wow, Turtle dudes! Ever have a day when the waves are just too tubular, the sun’s shinin’ and the babes are cryin’? Happens all the time when the Green Team are ridin’ this cool contraption. This sidewalk-skimmin’, sewer-slimmin’ wind-surfer’s so cool it doesn’t even need water! No way! This Turtilized top-sail-carryin’ Sidewalk Surfer is an Earth-travelin’ Turtle transport powered by Mother Nature herself – the wind! But don’t stop there, dudes. Just give Momma some help and this baby really flies. A push on the stern sends this sewer skiff’s fan a spinnin’… blowin’ all the Foot fiends away. But just ’cause the Green Ones are havin’ fun, don’t think they’re unprepared if the Foot fools show their faces. Bow mounted Turtlehead bombs are first out of the arsenal, followed by the Foot-seekin’ mutant missile and green gatlin’ guns. When the Foot see this billowin’ sewer-sail headed their way, it’s like, ya know, heads in the sand, dude!”

Maybe the Toxic Turf Surfer didn´t sell well, but Toxic Crusaders was not handed properly, too bad cause this series and Skeleton Warriors were very good tv shows and the toylines (both made by Playmates) were excellent.

I believe it would have been a nice additon for regular Mike, Storage Shell, Sewer Surfer, Beachcombin etc and it would have had an awesome toybox art. Do you think so?

Anyone, got this vehicle? If so, anyone try to make a custom/repainted prototype accurate of the Sidewalk Surfer? If you do so, please upload some photos andi if anyone got the original prototype please let us know and also show some photos.

That's pretty cool! I'm always a fan of documenting toy molds crossing into other toylines. It looks like if someone were to try to turn the Toxie one into a Turtle vehicle, the biggest problem would be the front missiles with Turtle faces on them. Looks like they were going to chuck the front sail and toss a gun from a previous vehicle on the top of the mast (has a 6 pack as part of it, I forget the vehicle it's from) Most of the rest (other than sail) looks like it would just require some paint and maybe prying gas masks off the engines (if they're just glued on top of them that is)

Thanks for your comment. I wish this toy was made it.

Here is my custom variant of the Sidewalk Surfer. It is not an exact copy of the prototype, as I decided to leave some parts in original color. Maybe I should add more green, though :twink:. More photos here (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1073542&postcount=99).

Very cool! I admit I have never heard of this vehicle before, but your description and images are stellar. I love hearing about prototypes and "could have been" things like this. I gotta say, I kinda wish i had this turtle version. I think it looks better than some of the stuff playmates ended up slapping the turtles name on.

Plus i like any thread with a Skeleton Warriors reference :twink:
