So, are there any of you who have any great memories playing the first Tomb Raider games from the past?:tsmile:

I think the thing I remember most about those games is the 'Nude code' fiasco and all of that garbage.

Interesting. I will ask this: have you ever played the game before? I know it was rated T for Teen, but I was like 7 or 8 when I got into Tomb Raider.

Played it once. Decided life was too short.

I was too busy playing Crash Bandicoot. Games that I enjoyed playing.

The older games are garbage now, but the Tomb Raider reboot in 2013 looks amazing.

I hope it can be just as good as the Mortal Kombat reboot from 2011. They successfully revived what people considered to be a dying old 90's franchise.

Although to be fair, most games that started in the Playstation 1 era have decayed over the years, the only exception being Metal Gear Solid.

My sister played those games all the time. The butler in Lara's mansion always creeped her out, so everytime she played she would lock him in the freezer.

Ah, good times...

Funny.:tlol: How about in Tomb Raider 3 where she can shoot at the butler, kill him, and then suddenly get back up? That was unexpecting.

I know the graphics were dated back then, but I just loved the architecture for each level. Here are some examples:

ah, the past...lol! tomb raider, final fantasy 7, final fantasy tactics and beyond the beyond...lots of good hours wasted away in the best way possible!

Anniversary for the Wii isn't great. Anniversary on anything else it was intended for (PC, PS3, etc) is great.

I grew up with Tomb Raider and it was ok. Legends, Underworld, and the newer games are far better. Not just in terms of graphics, because its not really fair to compare the two series. But the gameplay itself, puzzles, and so on. Its striking how much more fun a game can be without it being grid based.

I remember using game shark cheat codes too beat half of the levels...:tgrin:

The new reboot seems terrible, that isn't Lara, it's SquareEnix trying to cash-in with a Uncharted like game. I wish for a reboot they had gone back to what made Lara Croft popular and it wasn't realism the opposite.

Legends and Anniversary where quite good, adding more realism but not too much I didn't play Underworld so I can't comment, this reboot doesn't look fun. I'd rather have an over the top adventure.

Umm Anniversary was a PS2 game, the 360/PS3 versions where just basically HD ports. If anything the Wii version is truer to the PS2 version, not to mention it included newer fun puzzles, sure the graphics don't look as nice but this isn't something like The Force Unleashed port on the Wii that was a gimped version of the PS3/360 versions.

It was on the PC and PS2 first. The PC didn't have stripped down graphics. The Wii version was a more direct port of the PS2 version, whereas the 360 and PS3 versions were uprezzed from the PC.

Fun puzzles? Give me a ****ing break.

Also, anything ported to the Wii after the fact is almost always a gimped version.

I played TR2 with my crappy PC back then, saved in the level 5 when I was on fire and had to play that terrible, TERRIBLE Opera House again. Never played the first one or the third. I quit playing 4 when I got to the City of Dead or whatever, but I did finish 5. Like the Opera House in 2, sometimes the levels were designed to crush all your desire to play the game and leave it forever. But then there was that Monastery level, probably my favorite level in any game ever.

I recall being amused in TR2, summersaulting off the Great Wall... And no, she didn't land in the water when I did it.

Speaking of falling off the Great Wall, here are clips on some of her most interesting game deaths from the games I have played. No, this is not my video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6bMBj5ZKrc

I'll give you some insight. I did get eaten by the T-Rex once, but that was only in Tomb Raider 1. I missed him in the second game.

I'll tell you this - the level with the falling swords and the lightning bolt device was my least favorite. I always died in that level.:tgrumble: Let's just say, whenever I hear Lara scream at the top of her lungs, it drives me up a wall. I kept falling now and then. There was even this one time where I saved a game at a point where I was falling.:tlol:

When I first jumped onto the Midas hand, I was only a kid back then. I knew the story of King Midas, but I had no idea what was going to happen.:teek: It's a clever but frightening idea that Core Designs put into the game.

And yes! I was whacked by that boss creature many times! I look at the scene now, and it just makes me laugh. It must really hurt to lose and die in the hands of a mutant with no legs.:tlol:

As for Tomb Raider 2:

Oh my God! Those mines in the water DID blow me up quite some time when I couldn't figure out how to jump off the speedboat. And yes, I have attempted to use my snowmobile at new heights . . . and end up killing myself because of it.

But it's that level, THAT LEVEL, where I return to China that gets me. It had great graphics background wise, but no matter where you turned, there was booby trap after booby trap. There was no way I could pick up a medical pack without getting hit by spiked walls.:tlol: It was a real challenge, but the level was ridiculous. How do you expect to survive in those conditions?:tconfuse:

No, they were upressed from the PS2 versions, look it up. The Wii version is universally thought of having good puzzles, not to mention a few puzzles changed from the PS2 version making it feel fresher. The Wii port is really good if you can live with SD. Waggle doesn't affect the gameplay much and the exclusive puzzles while not to your standards were fun for the majority.

I love tomb raider.

Have all the games, even the spin-off dlc game: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

I'm an active member at a tomb raider forum.

There's a t-rex in Tomb Raider 2. There's a hidden path that goes down the dark abyss of the first China level. :D

Love the TR games, have played them all (apart from Guardian of Light) on various systems.
Recently bought TR2 for PS1 so I can go for a wander around the Maria Doria (?sp) again but haven't got round to it yet.

Cheers,

I remember when I was the first one of all my friends to find the two T-Rexes. They didn't even believe me first when I told them, lol.

Tomb Raider is a product of its time and the series has aged poorly. There's still some merit to the new games in the series, like Legends, but very little beyond that. Lara Croft was an icon of that generation of games for the simple reason that she was a chick with huge boobs who was marketed as such. It wasn't because the games were any good, even if they were impressive at the time.

I still hold to the fact that, aside from Legends, the best game in the series is Guardian of Light, which ironically enough is the least like any other game in the franchise.

The new game does look pretty alright, though.

I never liked Lara because of her boobs, luckily.:tlol: It's just to adventure that caught my attention. Plus, I was thinking at the time that the grapics were cool. Yes, they are very dated today, but I still have fun playing the games. Too bad my Tomb Raider 3 game disc is not working anymore. That one was never one of my favorites anyway.:twink:

Wow. Guardian of Light looks interesting. I never knew a game like that existed.:teek:

Still, I will agree with you on some things. The series has aged poorly. Like I said - outdated graphics. Also, I feel like the games have gotten better graphics, but have become a lot more complicated to play. I bought Tomb Raider: Anniversary thinking it was going to bring back the memories of playing the first Tomb Raider on PC. It didn't. Tomb Raider had its difficult moments, but it wasn't as complicated as this reboot.:tsad: I was so frustrated and disappointed. Everytime I played the darn thing, it was like "climb here, jump, climb here, aim by yourself, climb here, stand and balance on a stick, swing on poles, and just die.":trolleye: Games shouldn't be that stressful. That's just bad for your health. Also, the reason why she could be aging poorly is because of brand new games that are becoming popular today: Halo, Call of Duty, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, etc. You get the picture.

I'm not sure about this new Tomb Raider game. I don't even like the voice for her in this one. Besides, Crystal Dynamics are calling it "Tomb Raider." Hello! There was already a "Tomb Raider," and it came out in 1996! I would have preferred something like "Tomb Raider: Origins," or "The Becoming of the Tomb Raider." Everytime I go on YouTube to look for "Tomb Raider," I'm looking for the first game, NOT this one!:tgrumble:
