i have always LOVED the original mikey one shot from volume one and seeing that Christmas special mikey custom by kevlar palsh on figurerealm inspired me to make one of my own. i opted for comic accurate colors and i attempted to make a more comic accurate klunk. overall, the process was very similar to what kevlar did. however, i resculpted the head, made my lil' orphan alien removable, and made a cloth santa hat. i looked all around and could not find a toy cat in the scale i needed, so klunk was sculpted totally from scratch. this is my very first attempt at sculpting an animal from scratch. turned out ok i think. i painted it for a comicy/realistic cross...not too much one way or the next.

Dude, this all looks fantastic! What a great toy this would make for a limited holiday release!

As far as I know, you and this guy (http://www.figurerealm.com/viewcustomfigure.php?FID=45284) are the only two to make customs inspired by the Michelangelo Micro!

Ahhh that is way too cool. Best parts about it are the panel accurate face, and those Lil Orphan Aliens. :)

Awesome! If only there were Micro-specific things that could be done with the other Mirage Micros....Donnie's is the only one I could think of specifically...and that's only adding the gravitic equalizer to a later Eastman/Laird Donnie...which when you say it that way, is a bit more complicated than I realize.

Oldmanwinters-thanks. I'd love to see playmates release a line of holiday themed turtles. Christmas Mikey as Santa, Halloween Raph as zombie/werewolf etc., Thanksgiving Leo as a pilgrim, New Year's Donnie dressed up in all the party swag. Some of it may be stretching it a bit, but it would still be fun.

Powder-thank you. The face is something that I felt I needed to do. I loved the other guy's custom mikey, but the head just didnít feel right. Same thing with the aliens. I thought it'd be much cooler if there were actual little aliens in the canister.

Jester-a Donnie oneshot figure would be pretty cool. Donít know if I feel like making one at the moment though. As I'm sure you already know, the style of art in the Donnie one shot is quite different from the issue #1 which the NECA toys were molded after, so a NECA turtle as the base wouldnít be the best choice, which means I would have to make it pretty much from scratch and that my friend is a whole lot of work. Unleeeeeess... I just made some light mods on a neca turtle and just compromised with the overall "accuracy". Still up in the air. Oh and sorry, no wip's. I forgot to take some :(

Yep it's a trap-thanks for the kind words man. I'm glad my passion for the turtles comes through in my work :)

Threat- thanks bud and yes the alien started out as a trash pack. Good eye :)

Slythe, joemoe, lordmylar, zkarlette, luzmagica, fugitoid jones, eiko, canadiandrome, raph12 - thanks guys!

Screw Mikey -- Klunk is the f'n star of this set. You sculpted that from scratch??? Very impressed. So impressed. You, sir, are a superstar.

Also, I somehow got confused as to whose thread this was. I totally know you can sculpt, PP. Why am I so surprised? I don't know. Still, great work. :D

lol, thanks wes! to be honest i surprise myself all the time. i'm sure as a fellow customizer, you get that feeling too sometimes. its like you have a vision in your head and you have to try something a little new, different, or jsut plain out of your area of comfort in order to try and achieve that vision. he's by far not the greatest cat sculpture, but i was stoked just to have gotten to the level that i did with him.

It's funny, because I think in the letter column in #8, someone complained about how bad they thought the art in the Michaelangelo Christmas Special was.

Hmmm. I really like the way you did the face and eyes on him so I might go that route.. Maybe a more aggresive expression.. But yeah pretty much the same.. I noticed you tried to keep the elbow joints in. I originally did that too but didnt like the way they came out so I broke it up and resculpted solid. His wrists still pivoted so I was happy there... Man I miss holding him big time. Im working on several TMNT customs at the moment so I probably wont be able to get back to this one for several months. What paints did you use for him? It looks real candy clean.

This is fantastic, although I'm not familiar with that comic, it reminds me of the cartoon when they would be stumbling around "incognito" in broad daylight dressed similarly.

This is so awesome! Was there a turtle Christmas Micro series? I had never heard of it before!

Jester
04-06-2013, 06:54 PM
Each of the Turtles got a Micro Series (a spoof of miniseries, as they were only one issue.) Raph's introduced Casey, Donnie's had him going to Kirby's World and was adapted into a kid's book in the 90's and an episode of the 4Kids series eventually, Leo's (also at Christmas, though I think it's a year after Mikey's) is his fight with the Foot leading to the events of issue 10, and Mikey's was a light-hearted Christmas story that introduced Klunk and was also later adapted by 4Kids.
