All,
Picked up TMNT #9 today, as I finally found a comic shop nearby that still had copies of it. (Ill be grabbing #10 and the new series' #1 later today.)

Anyways, Baxter seemed to be a mass of machinery and his consciousness in a secret lab of Don's.

Can someone fill me in on his story? I only own about 3 issues prior to volume 4, as I was younger at the time and my collection is mostly the Archie series. I plan on picking up back issues of the others eventually, but I'd love some knowledge from you all.

Thanks!

it happened in vol2 he replaced his body with a robotic one, he switched his brain from one to the other. kinda stupid.

...but how does Don factor in?

What do you mean don? Don became a cyborg in a different series, Image, which is not part of this conitnuity. It was not written by Peter Liard, it was written by Erik Larson, or maybe he drew it, i dunno.

Im talking about Don's secret lab from TMNT v.4 #9 (last issue), and how he is the "owner" of baxter.

I don't think anyone knew Don did that. It was a secret.

Yeah, for some reason I think they'll end up telling us the details in one of the early issues of the new "Tales of the TMNT" comic.

Oooohh OK, so it's an untold backstory now. Then I'm not missing anything :)

Well, we know a little, like about Baxter becoming the cyborg and all that, and his apparent "death" in Vol. 2, but we don't know the full story of how or why he came to be in Donatello's possession, so I think that's a tale yet to be told.

Okay... eh, looks like you guys need some additonal knowledge on the matter here, that I can fully suplly. (Being the Don/Daxter/Cyborg geek that I am)

Okay.. Orginally, in the early days of Mirge Vol. 1, Baxter Stockman was the hi-tech robotics scientist that is also portrayed in the new FoxBox show. April used to be his lab assitant, as he built the hords of mousers.

Well, that plan to use mousers to take over the city backfired, Baxter was put out of business, and otherwise left to his own means or some such thing for a looong time. We don't hear from him again for the rest of Volume 1.

Then Volume 2 starts up with us watching Baxter in his secret lab, transfering his brain into a massive robot (about twice the size or Robocop). The only thing flesh in this robot is Baxter's brain. His body is left behind when the DARPA team storms in too late in search of him.

The Baxter Bot is on a mission to wreck havoc.... on April. Long planned revenge to her since she and her new green friends messed up his plan to take over the city, persay. Thus, he pulled her from her car, stabs her in the shoulder with a pointed blade, then flees the scene when the Turtles and the cops get there.

Well, Raph gets a tag on him atop some tall buildings. The DARPA are buzzing around too, and then he nabs Raph and drops him off the roof (he's saved by another group below). Baxter is left in shambles as a pile of spare parts after the others tear him apart.

That's all we heard from him at that point. Image (Vol 3) doesn't go anywhere near that Mirage storyline either. The whole bit about Don becoming cyborg had nothing to do with Baxter, since Baxter was not in that comic.

So, by the time Vol 4 comes around, Laird has been very sneaky in how he picks up the loose threads from Vol. 2. We finally learn that the reason why Baxter stabbed April, was that he injected those nanobots into her system. They had thus remained dormant in her system until the Utroms set them off.

I also assume in the years that passed between Vol. 2, and Vol. 4, Don had secretly gathered up the Baxter Bot (or got him before DARPA did), dismantled his weapons, brought him back, and locked him up in that secret lab. As to what really happened there... we have yet to see. Laird is very precise (and very slow) in where he revels what bits of info.

Hope this clears up the confusion better. And if you want to read more into the current volume four, keep your eyes open for any vol 2 issues.
