A few have asked me to share some pics of my collection. I have some free time lately, so why not?
My collection is pretty focused, and not very large. It's mostly comic-related items, very few toys/figures.
Also, there really is no order, rhyme or reason to these pics!

Scat #1, a pre-TMNT publication featuring an early Laird few-page comic story:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2m2uiac.jpg

Upperground #1, a 1985 publication with a Laird Leonardo pin-up (already signed when bought):

TMNT Adventures pages purchased from Chris Allan in 1994. I also purchased #48's original cover, but unfortunately sold it a few years back.

Thanks for the kind words guys! It's cool to see it all in one place, as most of it is not displayed. Here are a few more things:

Leatherhead by Matt Roach, mid-'90s. Ran into Ryan Brown at the con, so he signed it too
http://i47.tinypic.com/b6dn6d.jpg

Poster from Comicfest '93 Philadelphia, 11x17, signed by all Mirage attendees. This is where I bought that one CAW piece from Lawson

Leo and Black Cat 11x17 print by Michael Dooney with a sketch

Some 11x17 prints from a recent convention, not sure who the artist is but they are signed by him/her

I hear you..lucky I got most of the art long ago when they were relatively cheap. I think the Chris Allan and CAW pages were about $30 each at the time.

Very awesome work! I especially like that Leatherhead sketch!(You got to meet Ryan Brown? That's awesome!):tgrin:

Yeah, Ryan was a local to my area. I ran into him a few times at the local flea market too.

Ah, that's right..I do have the portfolio case around here somewhere..but can't find it at the moment.

What's the error on that #3?

MrPliggins
04-17-2013, 09:39 PM
Thanks man..well this is a collection amassed over the course of years. And on-and-off collecting. My collection used to be much larger. I amassed a lot of things in the early '90s, collecting everything tmnt. Then probably for a course of like 10-15 years I didn't collect at all, focused on life, school, career, etc. I've since gained some focus and I've downsized my collection by more than half.

As for the #3 error, before it was first printed, they needed some copies for a local con. They pre-printed off 500 copies, and the tones were missing from the cover, resulting in "whiter" whites. Some people view this as the "true" first printing.

Back in the early '90s I was all about signatures when I went to conventions. Here are some of my favorites:

Savage Dragon/TMNT, signed by Larsen, Dooney and Laird. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have had Laird sign this, as there really wasn't a good spot for his signature.
http://i49.tinypic.com/28wkkg1.jpg

TMNT Adventures Special, signed by Jeff Smith and Stan Sakai. Stan actually draws a cool TMNT back-up story in this issue.
http://i49.tinypic.com/2lo6e1i.jpg

TMNT Adventures 49, signed by Chris Allan, Brian Thomas and Victor Gorelick. Chris actually had this original cover for sale on his table when I had this signed. Wish I had more $ back then..
http://i47.tinypic.com/35hibt3.jpg

Usagi Yojimbo #10, signed by Stan Sakai. This was actually one of the first "b&w" TMNT comics I got as a kid, and I read the hell out of it..hence its crappy condition.

Ya man I'm right there with you. I didn't start going to cons until 2005 and those were anime cons (Anime Expo). I wasn't at a Comic Con until, like, 2007 for Phoenix ComiCon and that was when the show was still small. Now it's HUGE! Last year I saw a vendor with the Giant TMNT toys from the 90s, which I used to own Leo too haha.

But, I haven't been to any big Comic Cons so I literally didn't see ANYTHING TMNT for years! I saw the new toys for the 2003 series and then I saw some stuff when the 2007 movie came out but, otherwise, nothing!
So hats off to you, sir, who been at the right place at the right time as far as convention attending!

More and more I feel like I'm left out of so much and yet I live in Phoenix now... (which will be changing soon too... ugh).

And ya, I would consider that a true first print.
I THINK that my reissue #1 was whiter pages too... no tones... I'll have to look at it again.

TMNT #1 pose collection.
L to R: #1 (1st), #1 (2nd), #1 (3rd), #1 (6th SC), #1 (FCBD)
#1 (Color Classics), #1 (2009 Mirage Reprint, non-error), #50, IDW #12
I have PBBZ somewhere, can't find it
http://i50.tinypic.com/id61zo.jpg

What's left of the action figure collection:
Soft Heads / Fan Clubs. Would like to upgrade some of these one day. Once again, Don needs upgraded most with a pretty bad price tag pull
http://i46.tinypic.com/16tmb4.jpg
http://i50.tinypic.com/vkuts.jpg

Gags, Jokes, Crazy Weapons (I think these came out at the same time as the original figures?)
http://i45.tinypic.com/25zh7og.jpg

Leftovers. Krang and Scumbug sold on Ebay with non-paying bidders..and I just like the other 3 too much to sell.
http://i48.tinypic.com/112gc3d.jpg
And that is all of my TMNT figures. A far cry from what I used to have...!

Woah! Do I own a number 1 that you don't have?! :O
Otherwise a very impressive collection there as well!
I think out of all collections I have seen... which are largely toys, yours is the one I'm most envious about lol
And that's primarily due to all the good art stuff you have!

I really enjoy looking at your collection here.

I never even knew those extra weapon packs existed! Too bad they were gimmick "joke" weapons and not, like, additional stuff.
HAHA This makes me think it's pre-DLC XD

And nice toy line! I'm hoping to score Bebop and Rocksteady on MOC at a local comic store... I'm hoping the store owner will negotiate otherwise with what they are tagged on, they would run me about $100 and I can't do that.
Any of your toys there up for sale any more? Like Krang or anyone else? Or are they all that you'll keep for your set?

Yeah, back when I attended cons most in the early to mid-'90s, I was around 14-17 years old. There are plenty of good things I passed up, never to find again. I passed up Gobbledygook #1 and 2 for $100 each to buy a regular #2 and 3 (1st printings), something I can get easily today. Also passed up a TMNT #1 first printing for $100 on a few occasions. And, tons of original art. But at 15, those were expensive prices!

And ya, I would consider that a true first print.
I THINK that my reissue #1 was whiter pages too... no tones... I'll have to look at it again.

For the #3, it's only the cover that's different..the interior has all of the correct tones.

Woah! Do I own a number 1 that you don't have?! :O

I think so judging from your collection thread! I don't have the #1 video game reprint from 2007, The hardcover 6th printing, or the color 2009 error.

Any of your toys there up for sale any more? Like Krang or anyone else? Or are they all that you'll keep for your set?

I think I'm going to keep them for now, and maybe build up the collection again one day. I recently sold many of my figures to help fund the TMNT #1 1st printing purchase. The Krang is actually in pretty bad shape anyway.

I just realized you got a couple signatures on those toys.
Who are they? The voice actors?

3 of the figures are signed. Raphael is signed by Kevin Eastman. This one was bought this way as I have never met him. The Space Usagi is signed by his creator/artist, Stan Sakai. And Leatherhead is signed by his creator, Ryan Brown.

A few more books with signatures. Hard to believe it's been 20 years since I met most of these guys. Some of these are pretty worn as they are my original copies from when I was a kid. I read them over and over, and didn't really care about condition then.

Time to bump this thread with some new acquisitions!

TMNT v1 #16 was the first Mirage TMNT comic I ever read, and first TMNT comic that I read period. I bought it at Hills Department Store, which at the time had hundreds of copies of only this issue in the toy section. I used this issue to help me learn how to draw Turtles. I read it over and over until the cover was almost falling off. So the issue holds lots of nostalgia value for me. When I saw that some pages from the issue were for sale, I had to jump on a few.

Thanks!

I went to the Gem City Comic Con today in Dayton, OH with my buddy TheMasterTurtle and finally got to meet Kevin Eastman. He's a very cool guy and very personable!

I had him sign my TMNT #1, 3rd printing, which Laird had signed for me way back in 1993 in Philadelphia.

He offered to sign it with the same colored pen, and it literally looks like these were signed on the same day with the same pen, although they're 21 years apart!

This comic now means a lot to me because of the circumstances behind the signings and having met both creators finally, even though so far apart.
It's also the only thing I have signed by both of them as a result of meeting them.
I wish I had asked Kevin to write the year, that would make it even cooler.

Also, I bought this very awesome sketch cover from Kevin's lovely wife Courtney. It was the last sketch cover available so I'm glad I got there when I did:
http://i60.tinypic.com/4zvl80.jpg

I also bought this Shredder blank for him to do a quick sketch on:
http://i59.tinypic.com/x6lwzo.jpg

I also commissioned a sketch, but he wasn't able to finish it today, so I'm debating whether to drive back there tomorrow (1 1/2 hr. drive) or let them just mail it to me.

It was great to see the many original comic book pages and art Kevin has for sale too, especially from the early comics. Unfortunately my wallet wasn't large enough!

I have to mention: I know it was probably because Kevin was a main guest, but the Turtles were in full swing at this con. One dealer even had two Turtlemania Silvers displayed, along with Gobbledygook, the original buttons, and pretty much every classic TMNT collectible comic you can think of. Many dealers had Turtles on their "comic wall". TMNT Adventures issues in NM were priced at $10+. Gone are the days of finding Turtles comics in the $1 boxes!

Very cool stuff me man! Kudos in the error print #1 too. Do you remember what the Dealers were selling the Turtlemania Silver Editions for? I'd be curious to know...

I think TMNT are in full swing everywhere. Saw a bunch of Mirage books for 10 and 15 bucks that are normally 5 and 10 bucks at the show in Camden NJ I was at yesterday.

The one I was looking at was CGC 4.5 and they were asking $1200. The other one was a higher grade, in the 8 or 9 range? Don't quote me on that. It was priced significantly higher but I can't remember.
The button set was priced at $495. They only had Gobbledygook #2 as they said they had already sold #1. Didn't check the price on that one.

I added a really cool, rare piece to my collection today. Now I have 3 different original mail-away iron-ons, the first non-comic TMNT item ever released :)

I know I'm super, super late to the game on the Playmates statues (by like 10 years), but they're so cool I had to pick them up. Very nice Pliggins. I hope seeing mine in person helped with your decision because they're one of the most phenomenal turtle pieces ever produced. It's still hard for me to believe playmates produced them.

If you do anything with the background if keep it simple. Let the statues speak for themselves

MrPliggins
06-13-2014, 03:55 PM
Thanks TMT. I think when I saw yours it kind of put the idea in my head subliminally. Seeing them in pics is one thing but in person they are just amazing statues! I had to pick these up for the decent deal they were being offered at.

I tried sticking the iron-ons behind them, but it made the display too busy. I think it's fine just how it is. It might be cool to put "wallpaper" of the original mirage pages, but screened back so as to not draw attention from the main focus.

Since most of my collection is filed away (comics, OA), it's nice to have something really cool to display.

Added a few new TMNT items recently.

The first one was my holy grail of sorts. It was the last book I needed for a complete volume 1 run including all variants and reprints (not including collected books, which I'm not collecting all of):
TMNT #1, 6th printing hardcover, numbered 120/500 and signed on the inside by Eastman and Laird:
http://i61.tinypic.com/e7lyll.jpg

That did complete my #1 printings collection also, until this SDCC variant was released last month. :x I only acquired a cover A so far. I'll try for a cover B sometime in the future. It's a very cool reprint though as it uses Eastman's colors from the First Graphic Novels, which was the format which I first read TMNT #1 as a kid.
http://i61.tinypic.com/2lnycrr.jpg

And I couldn't pass up the cute Lego variants of the classic Mirage #1. Even though the book is abridged for kids, it's still a very cool book. Both are SDCC variants. Also both are the same book, only the cover is different.
http://i58.tinypic.com/33xem9s.jpg

I just realized all of my new additions are related to the TMNT #1 cover image

Yeah everything keeps going up. These movies are really upping the price of everything. I used to have a large ASM run, but when I sold my AF15(still regret) I just kinda sold most of them. I thought I had more pics, I'm at work right now. Here's a few I still have. My friend owns a shop with a good size selection of silver age Spideys that's why I asked what you need. It's high time I added a new cel to the collection. I can't seem to pass up these season 1 cels when I run across them for a decent price. This one is of Molecular Amplified Krang from "Shredder and Splintered", about to punch a hole into the Earth's crust so he can jump up there and terrorize the city above!

Ironically, the reproduction background (possibly from Bye Bye Fly?) makes him look tiny.

I watched the original show so much as a kid that I think some of the frames are ingrained into my mind for eternity, haha. I haven't watched it much in the past 15 or so years but still I remember it well. This episode is one of my favorites and it really establishes the series with the introduction of Krang's body...plus I love the animation style in this episode.

Good luck in finding some more. There is one of Raph vs Shredder (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kevin-Eastman-Peter-Laird-signed-original-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Cel-/111446010889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f2b32c09) on Ebay now which is from this same episode. However it is pretty high priced. Luckily I was able to use Ebay Bucks for this Krang cel so I paid just under $5.00 shipped.

I also recently acquired some pre-TMNT Eastman and Laird stuff! Really interesting although kinda risque at times. Some of the sensitive stuff is listed but not pictured.

Scat #2. I'm guessing this book is from around Halloween, 1979. It has a few-page story by Laird featured inside, plus a pretty cool Laird cover:
http://i58.tinypic.com/4j2pdy.jpg

The Technician, 1981 book by Mike Kirby with Illustrations by Peter Laird. The story is 84 pages. Laird art is featured on the cover and 5 full-page illustrations on the interior:
http://i57.tinypic.com/b6pwnt.jpg

Here are some 'zines, which are tiny few-page comics that are very cheaply made. They just seem like xerox copies stapled together, much like the original Gobbledygooks, except smaller. They measure about 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Spoilered for some risque content:

Book of Man #1, '83. There's a neat 3-page Eastman comic inside featuring Kevin Eastman himself as the prophet East-Man.
http://i60.tinypic.com/2pows28.jpg

Goodies #4, '83. Featuring a cool Eastman cover.
(nudity on cover, not pictured)

Goodies #5, '83. Featuring a hilarious 5-page Eastman story about the end of the world and a spontaneous encounter. "This is it! If we have to die,...let us go making...LOVE!"
(nudity on cover, not pictured)

Goodies #8, '83. Featuring a five-page Laird story about a woman's fantasy encounter with a Conan the Barbarian-type character. The cover has no relation to the interior content:
http://i60.tinypic.com/zv4m12.jpg

Goodies #9, '83. Includes a Laird drawing on the inside front cover of a nude woman.
http://i57.tinypic.com/16joqvk.jpg

Goodies #12, '84. Includes a funny 4-page Eastman story about a man who has an interesting "effect" on women just by touching them.
(nudity on cover, not pictured)

Sweet Cheeks #1, '83. Features a cool Eastman cover.
http://i62.tinypic.com/2vta0dv.jpg

Upchuckle, '84. One page has an Eastman drawing of a woman doing dishes while <censored>.
http://i58.tinypic.com/2wqgwhf.jpg

Fandom Directory #8. February 1986. There are some neat Eastman and Laird drawings in here, but nothing like #6. Nothing full page, just a few drawings throughout the book. There are 7 total drawn by Eastman and/or Laird. I've posted them all here:
http://i59.tinypic.com/2m2gdmq.jpg

Sorry for the crudity of this composition but you get the picture. Top row: all Laird. Bottom row: Eastman/Laird, Eastman, Laird, Laird.

:edit:

I recently was going through TMNT #43. I haven't read it in years. I had completely forgotten that A.C. Farley had done a signature and sketch on an inside page for me back in 1993! A cool surprise to find. If I remember right, AC didn't like signing covers unless it lent itself well to signature placement, like #48 and #49. At the time, for some reason I wanted everything signed on the cover. But now, I'm glad he signed it on the inside as the cover really is too busy for a signature:

8 1/2" x 12" Karai as Shredder.
Drawn on Duo-Shade paper (which I didn't realize until I received it. A pleasant surprise). There is no year on the drawing, but I'm guessing it was drawn around the time of City at War for a few reasons.

It's personalized to a Gavin. My old #61 City at War page was also personalized to a Gavin. I wonder if it's the same guy?

That's what I had planned to do if I ever picked up a set of pins. Very cool idea with the shadow box. I had thought it would be cool to have E&L sign the ad card or go nuts by printing the ad on some nice bristol and having Lavigne color it... Make it truly unique.

MrPliggins

I like the idea of getting the ad signed. I printed it on a piece of regular flimsy paper but put a piece of cardboard behind it, which the buttons are stuck into. I had the thought to color it myself, but then I thought the buttons would grab more attention if they were the only thing in color. You should definitely do that if/when you pick up a set! Finally picked this up with my Amazon gift card (I'm always late to the party). The reprint of #1 enticed me. I now have 24 printings of #1, three of which are in collected book compilations. Who needs 24 printings of the same issue?!?

This book is amazing! It took me about 3 days to read it cover to cover. This, Kevin's Artobiography, and the Official TMNT Treasury make a nice trio on my bookshelf. Speaking of the #1 reprint, it also impressed me. The art is very crisp and you can even see the duo-shade paper texture. This book is well worth the price.

Picked up a cool new season 1 animation cel the other day. Finally found one which prominently features some Turtles!
This one is again from "Shredder and Splintered"..the part near the end when Shredder pulls the retromutagen ray on the Turtles. Following this is the Shredder's classic line, "Tonight I dine on Turtle soup".

TMNT Rooftop iron-on, circa 1986. 1984 comparison on right, which I've had for a while. Main difference is the logo. Personally, I like the "bloody sword" logo from 1984 better.

Thanks guys. Yeah there were actually slight differences from 1984 to 1986. You can see them in the ads. The single Turtles in 1984 had darker shadows while the ones in 1986 were less shaded. I think the only one which didn't change was the Shredder.

Picked up another season 1 cel the other day, again from the episode "Shredder and Splintered". The scene is right before the Foot Soldiers start shooting at them outside the Technodrome. It also includes an error, Raphael in Donatello's color.

This one, like the last one I posted, didn't include any kind of background. So, I took some screenshots from the DVD, Photoshopped my own background and printed it out. Now, not only does it have a background, but it has the correct background for once! They're about as high quality as they can be from a DVD screenshot, but I think they look ok:
http://i63.tinypic.com/2houxat.jpg

I did the same for my last one too:

Sick ass finds, & you did an awesome job with the backgrounds. That's creative thinking with a great execution. Perhaps I should do the inverse for the painted backgrounds I own; cap the shots, print/cut out the characters, & pop 'em on top under the glass. :trazz:

01-04-2016, 06:29 PM

Added another cel, this time from episode 1, "Turtle Tracks"! Cels from this episode are very hard to find. I've only ever seen a few of them.
This scene is from the origin story, where Splinter introduces Donatello and his simple wooden bo, which can disarm any adversary. Classic!

Thanks for the good words, guys!

I've been busy acquiring some new original art. I sold my '85 Eastman Ronin Turtle (from page 1 of this thread) and it has afforded me an opportunity to acquire some new cool pieces. Here are a few of them:

Leonardo by Eric Talbot, 2016.
fude pen, flair pen, dr Martin pen white, canson paper, Copic.
Love the detail in this piece.
http://i68.tinypic.com/b7e4xv.jpg

Spider-man by Kevin Eastman, 1989. Being a TMNT and a Spider-man collector, along with an OA collector, this piece really stands out to me.
http://i64.tinypic.com/2s9f2mq.jpg

Renet Concept Sketch, Eastman 1986. Pencil sketch mounted to 11"x14" paper, concept for TMNT #8.

Thanks guys. The Talbot piece jumped out at me when I saw it, and I impulse bought it. I noticed last night he posted a few more cool pieces. Go check 'em out!
Both the #5 page and the Renet were indeed offered at Eastman's site at one point. The Renet has been in a few collections, I believe.

Here's one I didn't have a chance to post last night:

TMNT #39, page 13. While this 3-part story isn't my favorite arc of volume 1, I wanted to get this as my main OA focus is volume 1 pages and that era. Also the fact it's on duoshade and toned makes it pretty damn cool.
http://art.cafimg.com/images/Category_105966/subcat_173318/p5MZdXAB_1104160125291gpadd.jpg

And one of my favorites. This one just arrived today:
TMNT Smash-Up, page 23, by Jim Lawson and Eric Talbot. This was a mini-comic included with the TMNT Smash-Up video game in 2009. There are many cool pages in this book, because of all the characters used.

Just added a new piece of art to my growing archive. Hard to resist a cool v1 page when it's offered to me (hint for anyone wanting to sell their v1 art).

The page is from TMNT, volume 1 #28 (The Sons of the Silent Age). The artist is Rick Veitch. This is Mr. Veitch's only page in the issue, as it was a flashback to his 3-issue TMNT debut a few issues earlier: "The River".

It's drawn on duo-shade and about the same size as most of the early TMNT pages.

Thanks to the three people who hit me up about Eastman selling iron-ons on his site! I picked up two more, and now have 7 in my collection. The 1984 set is almost complete, only missing 2 of the 7 (Donatello and Michelangelo).

It took about 15 years to find this many so who knows if or when I'll find more, but it's been fun trying to collect this set so far. I think I finally have enough to start making some shirts.

I updated this post (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1085325&postcount=19) with the current state and updated images of my DH minis collection. Still looking for 4 sets. Maybe when I'm done I'll try to get an extra set of each to open and paint.

I recently picked up this Scat book because I thought it was cool. Outside of designing the logo and co-founding the book, I don't think Laird had anything to do with this issue.

I cleaned up the thread a little and removed some items I've sold or traded. Thanks for looking and happy holidays.

Another new vintage original art addition. Leonardo by Rick McCollum, 1990. Based on his issue of TMNT: volume 1, #37. I don't think this art was ever published. If anyone knows differently, let me know.
I picked it up from a friend at a very fair price. There are really some great people in this community. The piece is pretty large at 14" x 17", so it won't fit in any of my portfolios. I guess it'll have to be a wall piece!

A new acquisition inspired me to start a little project. I found another cel from the season 1 episode "Shredder and Splintered".
It's from the end of the episode where Krang tells the Shredder to climb on his back and they fly away. This is how it originally arrived, with an incorrect background:

http://i68.tinypic.com/iwkgeu.jpg

I looked at the DVD and noticed it would be hard to Photoshop a clean background for this scene. I decided to digitally paint a new one instead,
using the original as a reference. I painted Shredder to be on a separate layer since he's in front of Krang. Also, I sampled my colors from the original DVD screenshot:

http://i66.tinypic.com/1537a80.jpg

I printed each layer out separately. The background is printed on card stock and Shredder is printed on photo paper to give him that extra shine and cel look.
I cut Shredder out and laid him over Krang for the composite. Here's the final result. I'm not too happy with the quality of the prints. I may get better quality prints in the future.
The other problem is Shredder seems just a little bit too big. Just a little experiment I wanted to share!

Just added some new blue line coloring pages from the First Graphic Novels. The original watercolors are by Steve Lavigne 1988. A reproduction of the Eastman and Laird linework on acetate is placed over the original paints on each piece. These pages come from the 4th graphic novel:

Issue 10 final page:

Issue 11 title page:

Issue 11 April splash:
http://art.cafimg.com/images/Category_105966/subcat_173318/4oYVK9Dt_0601172014421gpadd.JPG

Again, the April theme in my original art collection grows stronger. There's just something about cool April pages.

Also new is a Dark Horse Miniatures set from 1986. On page 1 of this thread you can see the collection so far. I've been trying to find every set in every single type of packaging, which equals 24 sets. The acquisition of this set leaves 3 more to find. Thanks to a fellow dromer for this set!

It's been a while since I updated, but I wanted to share a few new finds.

Talk about rare. In the 20 years I've been looking for the iron-ons, I've only known of 3 Michelangelos to exist unused. I paid a rather high fee to nab this one, but it's worth it to add another to the collection. I still need about 6 or 7 to complete the set.

Speaking of which, in an act of similarity, right before I found the above item, I acquired this original piece based on the same art, drawn by Steve Lavigne. What a coincidence. I love the vibrant colors in this one.

I also recently picked up this 1985 piece. It was used as a pin-up page in Tales of the TMNT, volume 1, #2, and also drawn by Steve Lavigne. It's based on Frank Miller's style in "The Dark Knight Returns".

Ok, time for an update. While I've been busy working on my Amazing Spider-man run, I've also been getting a few new TMNT items here and there.

I recently acquired some original inking sheets from 1984 and 1985. These are copies of original art that Eastman and Laird used to practice inking and sometimes color. All of these sheets were unused in that respect, so no original art, but they still feature some really cool art!
http://i63.tinypic.com/2f04z2c.jpg

I also recently acquired these 2 pages of art from the final issue of City At War. I love the final story arc of volume 1, and it's great to add a couple more pages to my collection.

Also new to the collection are these, 3 more iron-ons from 1985. Pretty cool that 2 of them are variants of ones I already have. Always cool to find new ones of these colossal pains-in-the-ass to find:

Check out the current iron-on collection on page 1 of this thread. Let me know if you have any for sale that I don't have.

Last but not least, A few con-like sketches from Ryan Brown, Mark Bode and Simon Bisley.

Not every issue. Mainly Silver/Bronze Age, up to 129. I do have up to the end of the first run, before the volume 2 reboot, but I'm thinking of minimizing to just 1-129 plus bigger keys like 194, 238, 300, etc. Being a minimalist and a collector at the same time is a weird thing.

That's still a lot. Cool collection though! Do you have AF#15? I have never had a chance to get much into Spiderman but want to.

I do have about a half dozen issues I picked up when buying other books at estates. I have kept them bc of the cool covers.

I have seen the Omnibus collections that go up to #104, spread out among three volumes. I'm thinking about getting Vol 1 which collects AF15, ASM 1-38,annual 1-2, strange tales annual 2 and fantastic four annual 1.

Do you have a favorite run that's in a collected book that you would recommend?

Yeah minimalist collector, like living dead. lol A juicy contradiction.

Unfortunately, no AF 15 here. I think at this point it's out of reach pricewise outside of a lucky garage sale find. Still need a Spider-man #1 also.

Sounds like that volume you mentioned collects all the Steve Ditko issues, which are hit and miss, but feature some great first appearances. It gets going pretty well starting with #39 and John Romita Sr.s run. All the way up until 122, the death of the Green Goblin. I say i'll collect up to 129, the first appearance of the Punisher, but I don't really like that issue storywise all that much. The cover is great though.

These books are a real product of their time (the '60s) and were even made before I was born but still hold appeal to me.
Other runs I liked were the original Hobgoblin run of issues (238-270ish), and the McFarlane run (298-328 ). I even started out liking the Clone Saga but it fell of the rails really fast and outstayed its welcome.

I stopped reading at One More Day, so I can't speak to the current storylines, although I've heard Superior Spider-man was good.

Yeah, these days I keep my collection limited to things that are easily stored, like prints, cels, original art or comics. I actually want to trim a large amount of my comic collection down. At the moment I have six long boxes which I'd like to trim to two.

TurtleWA
05-24-2017, 10:20 PM
Yeah #1 could be achieved I think in a lower grade. But that AF15 daaang.

Yeah a lot to choose from. I was thinking vol. 1 for the history of the place it all started and it does have AF15 for a dust jacket. After that I am looking for the real good stories. I think those issues after #238 and up you mention is a good start. I wonder if any tpb have been printed collecting those?

I hear you on the space of boxes thing. I am switching to more collected volumes bc I think they take up less space and will be read more often. What's in those six boxes you want to trim?

MrPliggins
05-25-2017, 06:12 AM
That vol. 1 would be a good place to start. I'm sure there are probably some TPBs but I'm not really familiar with the TPB releases.
The six boxes contain Spider-man, Hulk and TMNT comics mostly, then I try to keep limited to about a box of other random stuff that I like.
