Hey Guys! Just want to share my latest custom work with you all. First and foremost I just wanted to say that I believe the first person to do this custom with this recipe is a fellow artist who goes by the tag, "Whitey's Workshop" on Figure Realm. I did a few things differently against the original customizers work to preserve what I feel to be trade marked to him and to feel comfortable producing my own version. Basically its a 2007 TMNT movie Splinter toy with a bit of altering.
Its was a bunch of dremeling and a little sculpting. Splinters sparring dummy, cane, carpet and flower basket were all made from scratch. The rug is Origami paper glued to bossa wood. The bowl is basically a "bowl" I made with Aves apoxie sculpt. Splinters sparring 'dummy' is a couple of wooden dowels and glue with a bit of shaping and sanding. The flowers were originally yellow tulips. I bought them at a local gardening center gift shop and painted them over with violet paint. The idea was that there are four of them, one for each of his sons. I thought it was only appropriate considering we are in full Spring time boom here in the North East. Splinters rug was actually a pretty tough because there are so MANY beautiful Origami designs out there that it's stifling. As always THANK YOU for looking at my work, and I welcome all critique. Also I should note that for Splinters nose and eyes I really wanted a wet look so a tiny bit of clear gell medium was lightly brushed to give a little pop of life to him.

Seems like he may have a lazy eye. That aside, I think this is the coolest Splinter custom I've ever seen. Well, a personal favorite at the very least! Looks really really cool. Nice to see you churning out all of these boss customs. I await the next eagerly!

If Classics Splinter is half as good, I can die happy.

But it wouldn't have those spiffy accessories, either. :D

Everything looks pretty darn good but the eyes being a bit crossed bothers me I'm not going to lie.

Yea, painting eyes is a pretty tricky trade. These were the first set of "real" eyes I attempted. I guess at some angles in pics they kinda looks a little crossed but it didnt bug me too much otherwise I would have reworked them. And then again at some other angles I they really pop the figure to life. ..But yea, they are tricky to do though, I cant front there.

I like it. We could put our Splinters together to have Classic and Movie Splinter together!

Who's going to customize a vintage inspired Rat King but revamped for 2013?

i dunno, honestly i dont really see whats the big fuss about this figure compared to those "just repaints" you mentioned. sure it is indeed a cool looking custom, but seeing that it has 28 comments and still running strong while most customs posted on here hardly get noticed or any recognition is astonishing, this seems like a rather simple custom. its the most popular custom on this forums right now but mostly "just a repaint" as leo says, only the head appears to have been altered. maybe its the added scratch made props that made the difference. and this isnt far from what you just said "just repainting a figure" which does by the way count as it being a custom figure. please correct me if im wrong, but aside from removing the shoulder pads and slicing off some of the beard and whiskers, isn't this also "just a repaint"? doesnt appear to have any other additional physical alterations or sculpting. look at the work in progress pic, the body looks the same. dont mean to put down this custom at all indeed you did a great job customizing this figure. i just had to point out what leo said is wrong. i like your baxter better though it looks like it had way more work put into it.

edit: just noticed the teeth may have been sculpted on and the yellow dots at first i thot was just painted on

I'm actually making another one right now for a collector and then after that it will probably be a couple months before I revisit this figure. I have several other TMNT customs in the works that desperatley need my attention. But I'll keep you in mind for sure!! Thanks!

You're fairly right.. This has been one the least labor intensive customs I did so far.. If its popular, then I would just have to mainly attribute that to being the character, Splinter. Who doesn't love Splinter? As far as work goes, YES, Baxter took a lot more work and hours to do. I think the accessories really make Splinter stand out because they outline his psyche in a way that represent him as a peaceful soul-full individual with his possessions being limited to necessities (cane, rug) and decorations of love (flowers). Once i got the look of him down the next thing I needed to do was really make his personality be apparent. I think that's what Sword Slicing Leo was getting at about not just being a repaint but more of a study of the character. Hopefully that's what you'll be getting from me in the future from my customs.. I'm a very cerebral person and when I create things I like to tap the soul of the subject of what makes them unique and bring it front and center.

that is badass dude. love it. Thanks amigooo!!
