I'm sure this has been asked before, but, Krang, is it possible to have, below our avatar, a little box, that says if we are male or female? Cuz it is kinda embarassing for someone not to know if someone else is a girl or guy. Thanks for everything!

When phpBB 2.2 is released, I'll add a hack for that if it's not already a standard feature. Thanks for your suggestion!

I'm almost afraid that if that gets added, females will get harassed using AIM and the other Messengers though.

These (http://www.tlotr.com/phpBB2/index.php) LotR forums have that feature and they use phpBB.
GK: I don't think that will matter. We eventually find out their gender anyway, right? It's just the embarassment that leads to it that we can solve. Does that make sense?

Yeah, TMNH, I can see why you wanted it :)
I Just feel really bad sometimes for females on these boards that get harassed, it's become something that bothers me about the internet.
And I'm DEFINETLEY Not saying it's a bad idea, it is a good one by all means.

These (http://www.tlotr.com/phpBB2/index.php) LotR forums have that feature and they use phpBB.That's because they use a hack. The problem is, hacks make the forums unnecessarily difficult to upgrade, and I'd rather have a board with not as many features but the latest bugfixes and the best security than a buggy one with more features.

Alright, that's cool! When will v. 2.2 be released?

Alright, that's cool! When will v. 2.2 be released? Not sure since the developers haven't given a release date estimate yet, but hopefully within the next few months.

I Just feel really bad sometimes for females on these boards that get harassed, it's become something that bothers me about the internet.Heh, this board is nothing. At least there's a decent guy to girl ratio here. In one of the boards I frequent, I'm one of only two or three girls out of a TON of guys!
Incidentally, I also think that a male/female note of some sort is a great idea -- It's awkward when people assume you're the opposite sex.

I agree, this board has a good ratio of guys to girls,
and I also wanna add that
a)the guys here have been very nice and
b)the girls are not catty (as sometimes happens on message boards, sadly. )
So I don't think it will be a problem HERE. But I am also fairly new, and there are quite a few people I haven't met.
Also, people can always block when they get harrased on AIM, and the website may specify teh gender as is, as they mostly do, so it's moot point cause it would be thesame as now.
And I also have to add, Krang does an excellent job keeping tabs on the arguments and anything non-kosher here, so if someone does get harrased, I think it would be quickly settled.
I do, however thinks its very funny when people mistake your gender. ;-)

I think theirs a 3rd option that dosent disclose gender.

in the forums, I get mistaken as a male.....but in fact, I am a female scientist. The gender thing does sound like a good thing to have in here.

Yah, the gender thing does sound like a good idea! (and no, I don't think Machias is a man either, just cause I want to type out Manchias from time to time. :goofygri: )
But... perhaps that feature should be an option too. For those of us who like to be androgynous. *heh* Yeah.. I'm a diehard tomboy who doesn't mind having a newbie think I'm a guy. And it prolly makes my hubby rest easy too. :D

Cool. I like to make a guessing game of my gender by choosing ambiguous nicks. I bet you could never in a million years guess my gender of you never knew me from any of the other Messageboards I frequent with names like nummymuffin coolculbutter or CrouchingGoblin HiddenSpiderman.

The "weird" part is that I can't think of any girls around me that liked TMNT years ago, so I was a little stunned when I first came here and noticed so many of them (in the beginning I assummed everybody was guys...)

I'm all for the option of listing one's gender. I've already been mistaken as a female once already, and I'm a little leary of making the same mistake myself.
Maybe it's because my username is Quiller-Bee . . . Idunno. (I use quills almost every day, and I work like a bee . . . “Quiller” kinda sounds like “Killer” . . . . Okay, okay . . . so my username sucks. :goofygri: )

Custom profile fields are definitely going to be a feature of phpBB 2.2, so adding that won't even require a hack if it isn't already integrated with the board (like it is for Paradigm City (http://www.paradigm-city.com/forums/), for example).
