View Full Version : Question about the Undercover Turtles figures??!!

So, I just started collecting the 80's toyline and after researching the entire line I see they made the 4 turtles w/ undercover cloth trenchcoats. I never saw these back in the day and only remembered the original Undercover Don figure.
My question is... what do the 4 turtles look like underneath the coats? Are they re-molds of a body-type that was used from another set of figures or are they brand new sculpts?

The reason I ask is I'm thinking of buying some repro cloth coats and making my own set since I'll never pay the prices that these figures go for. I'd like to use a bodystyle that's close to what they used for the actual figures and figured I'd use 4 Undercover Don heads and paint them the appropriate colors.

Any help would be appreciated. The only pics I can find online all have the coats closed, so I can't see the bodies.

Sweet...thanks for the info guys! So they shouldn't be very hard to reproduce then!! The Don figs can be bought pretty cheap on ebay. Just a matter of finding the toon bodies. I see someone on ebay selling the repro jackets. They look pretty good.

Thanks, Rick

Already seeking out the pieces. I just bought 4 coats. They aren't perfect matches, but they look pretty good. The one pictured in the auction was a darker brown, but you have options of ordering different colors. I picked "khaki" which matches the originals pretty closely. Here's some sample pics that the auction provided:

I have 2 undercover Don heads already, and will pick up some more asap. Just need to get the toon bodies now.

A quick question about those bodies: Looking at pics of the toon figures, I see they had silly gimmicks (moving eyes, tongues, etc). Does anyone know if the acutal undercover turtles figures had the gizmos removed from the backs (the buttons and levers used to activate the gimmicks)?? Anyone here have actual figures to compare?

Yeah.. they look pretty good but I think the KHAKI colored ones will look better. I haven't compared the size of the original turtles to the Nick turtles, but I guess they should fit them the same?! These coats will be going on the 'toon turtles' body. I hope they fit.

I just sold a loose Undercover Raph on ebay about a week ago or so, they do not have any buttons, levers, etc. Just a plain body, but in the Toon Turtle style. Hope that made sense! Best wishes on your endeavour!

Cool.. thanks! I kind of figured as much. Still, it will be a heckuva lot cheaper to use the toon bodies (with gizmos intact) then it would be to track down an actual undercover buck.

What seller are you getting these from? (Or maybe a link to an auction?) I'd like to check 'em out!

I bought from a seller named rikhor409. Here's a link to a new auction they started:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TMNT-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Custom-Handmade-Trench-Coat-14-Color-Choice-/171166717164?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item27da54d4ec

If that doesnt work then just search for "tmnt custom handmade trench coat". That should find it. They are in Asia. The coats can be made in 14 different colors. I will take some pics as soon as they are in hand. I noticed that they raised the price by .50 cents since I bought mine yesterday. It's 4.00 now each plus $4 shipping for the first one and $2 for each additional. So currently it's $26 shipped for a set of 4.

BTW... I noticed they sell a pretty nice hooded robe for the Nick Splinter!! I may have to pick one up.

Wes.. nice avatar! Doctor Who is one of my fave shows! I just picked up that 1-7 complete blu-ray set!

I had Thing II when I was younger and the hat never fit right on things head because the hat was too big for his head. the turtles heads are a bit bigger than things so for me i think the hats would work well with the nick turtles. Not guaranteeing it but the thing figure is cheap enough to give it a shot. plus if it doesnt work you get a neat coat, glasses, and hat for some other use!
