Hello Dear Tmnt Fans, The Tmnt variants from the original toyline can be a double-edged sword sometimes, but not this time. Back in 1992, our four green “Toitles” came out as part of the Wacky Wild West Turtles series introducing Chief Leo, Crazy Cowboy Don, Sewer Scout Raph & Bandito Bashin´ Mike.

Each of the carboard artwork was flawless, you will find details from top till the bottom of each card, we also got three illustrations for each figure and of course the cameos I´ve told you here http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=45484

I also loved the fact that each Turtle figure got their own and unique touch and theme within the Old West (Indian, Cowboy, Scout and Mariachi). Let´s face it, Playmates could have been lazy and could have done a Crazy Cowboy Don and then three repainted versions for the rest of the Tmnt, but no, they did each one unique and showed us why they were the best.

Let´s start with the fearless leader of the Turtles: Leonardo.

Chief Leo was a great figure, a whole new mold (each one of this series got their own), full of details, the feathers, the clothes, the paint in its face, it was a priceless in my opinion.

The accessories were pretty good , perfectly fitted and included: a Bodacious Bow and Arrow, Sewer Spear, Quasi Quiver, Totally Turtle Tomahawk and Battle Blade. I was always amazed of who how much Playmates previously studied to make each of these figures.

I still haven´t found a review on youtube of Chief Leo

The Second of this Wacky Wild Turtles Series I would like to show you is Crazy Cowboy Don

The Figure itself was just great, the sculpt and details, ( love the candy stick) it really represents a cowboy (at least in the Tmnt world) and back in those days I probably would have been happy to have at least this one.

The accessories were really good and included: a Half-shelled Holster, Sewer Six Shooter, Reptile Rifle and a Lizard Lasso.

The third figure of this Wacky Wild West Series is Sewer Scout Raphael, a Daniel Bonne and David Crockett homage maybe? Perhaps our parents bought it because of that.

The accessories were: Kowabunga Carvin' Knife, Long Range Reptile Rifle,
Foot Trap and Buckskin Belt with Powder Sack

The Last but not least figure was the icing of the cake, Bandito Bashin´Mike,

Just look at this Figure, the endless details, the mariachi cliché. Awesome, just awesome. By the way anyone noticed the eye pupils?

The accessories were: a Kowabunga Cork Shotgun, Hero Holster & Reptile Revolver, Jalapeno Knife, Sewer Serape and we got small companion this time: Thory, the Cactus Pal

The Wacky Wild West Turtles never appeared in the original tv show, and that was sad in my opinion. I believe it could have been used in an episode were the Tmnt go back in time to face Shredder in the old west (like an homage to Turtles in time Level: Bury my shell at Wounded Knee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiAmEo7bP_U and

I also think this series fell a bit shot, cause they should have made six more Wacky Wild West theme figures to complete the set.

Calamity April
Marshall Splinter
Mayor Shredder
Mad-Hog Bebop
Buffallo Rocksteady
Sixshots Foot Soldier

Maybe all sounds like Cowboys from Moo Mesa but who cares?

Here are featured in the 1992 and 1993 Playmates toy catalogs (Photos Courtesy of Vaughn Michael)

I've always dug Chief Leo. He's my favorite of the four wacky wild west designs. Bodacious post!

I had all 4 of those. One of the better sets.

I have these guys. I have a loose set and two on cards on my wall.
The loose set set are in my sewer playset.

Of the many turtle variants made, I don't mind these. They're not too insanely goofy. Plus the cowboy theme works okay.

I honestly wonder though if the world was as annoyingly PC as it is today back then if Chief Leo and Bandito-Bashing Mike would have been allowed to be made. Native American and Mexican stereotypes! Gasp!

i have 3 of the 4.... missing cowboy don... out of the 3 i have i like chief leo the best...

i really like your idea Bill of the additional 6 figures... especially shredder and bebop...

Wild West Turtles ? ... damn !! The back of the card is more interesting, it shows Movie Star Leo and Raph with metallic painted weapons !! Thanks for sharing !!

Me again. Just want to add that a while ago, I added kooky kavalry Leo and Yanky Doodle Raph into the loose set. I think they work better as additions to the wacky Wild West set rather than the military set.
Forgot to mention my favorite. It's crazy cowboy Don. I totally love the cigar; a candy cane !

This was a great variant set of the turtles by Playmates. I have all four of them and they were some of the better toys from a concept stand point. Definitely in my top ten of Playmates TMNT series of turtles. :tcool:

Bandito Bashin Mike is one of my oddball favorites. I love the jalapeno knife.

The Wacky Wild West Turtles arrived in stores months after the first episode of the Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of the Moo Mesa premiered. 1992 was coming to end and there was a lot of Batman Returns merchandise on the shelf.
