Welcome aboard, Red Dwarf. You'll find it's pretty fun around here, but watch out for Azure. He'll give you a mango of welcome before you know it.

Hello and Welcome!!
The mango's are okay.... they seem to come in many different flavours, as well as having various magical properties....
Hiya, Red, welcome to our forums. Things do get a little weird and crazy around here, but we're good people.

*gives Red a mango of welcome*
Yes, we're a bit on the silly side, but we're all good people, mutants, demons, robots, etc. Hope you enjoy your stay here!
Oh, and a quick note to everyone...I'll soon be moving all the recent welcome threads to General Discussion, so that this forum doesn't get flooded with too many mangoes or off-topic insanity.

Hallo spaceboy! (BTW, has anyone here ever seen the movie White Dwarf? I just love it.)
azure turtle
06-25-2002, 12:19 AM
White Dwarf? Is that some sort of fantasy/sci fi movie??
Loolaa
06-25-2002, 12:24 AM
Umm, is that an RPG magazine...?
Never seen the movie.
Skeletoncrew
06-25-2002, 12:26 AM
Yes. Its been quite a while since I've seen it, but I think the main plot was this: A young doctor comes to the planet White Dwarf for his internship...he considers it a backwaters place. And well, he learns...there are lots of interesting characters...A woman who is in jail for several life sentences, and her alien jailer who keeps her alive; a shapeshifting boy; a couple of twin girls who got a disease that makes them look elderly; etc. Hmmm...I may need to see if I can rent that soon...

*makes a mental note to look for White Dwarf*
Loolaa
06-25-2002, 11:52 PM
Hmmm, I'll have to have a look for it!
Skeletoncrew
06-25-2002, 11:58 PM
Okay, according to the Internet Movie Database: In a distant future New York medical student Driscoll Rampart accomplishes his internship at Rusta, a rural planet that doesn't revolve around its axis and therefore is divided into contrasting halves of eternal day vs. eternal night. One is a Victorian-styled colony, the other a medieval kingdom. Both leave Rampart in a state of constant wonder, as he finds his way among humans and aliens, strange dreams and even stranger reality, a dark keep and a red sea, and more universal matters of war and peace, good and bad, love and hate and sickness and health.
Apparently it was a TV movie from 1995. The one review on IMDB isn't terribly favorable...but I enjoyed it. I really do have to check it out again now!

06-26-2002, 03:53 PM
sounds a bit too deep and complicated for me. i'll stick with Tank Girl, Independence Day and Star Trek for my sci-fi movies of choice.
Loolaa
06-26-2002, 11:40 PM
Ah!! My sci fi movies of choice are 12 Monkey's, Akira, Blade Runner, The Matrix and Star Wars.
azure turtle
06-27-2002, 12:50 AM
Hey! You listed Akira! I assume you like anime? :anime: Kali, HT, and myself are big fans...I remember we used to have a thread for it.
Loolaa
06-27-2002, 12:56 AM
I like some... I like Akira.. Ghost in the Shell and a couple of others. Hated Bubble Gum Wars (?) and as for Legend of the Overfiend.... it was a bit of a shock for my innocent 16 year old self when I saw it!!!
I prefer manga, really. Oh My Goddess! being my favourite and Appleseed. :anime:
azure turtle
06-27-2002, 01:26 AM
I've heard a lot of good things about the Oh my Goddess! and Appleseed mangas. And the anime based off of those are supposed to be really good, too. I just don't have enough money to be able to buy up a few DVDs right now. Have you ever watched Princess Mononoke or Blood: The Last Vampire? Those two are my current favorites.
HorseTechie
06-27-2002, 08:09 AM
heheh.. yeah, there's an Anime thread in here somewhere.
I also like the more PG/R rated anime movies (that Manga co put out). Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Street Fighter, Ninja Scroll... and this onther one about a Hunter who tracks down these demons that like to eat the livers of girls, I like all of those!
Hubby also got Blood:the last vampire, but that didn't seem to be as captivating.
Loolaa
06-27-2002, 11:10 AM
I'll have to check them out... unfortunately my local Blockbuster doesn't do much manga, if any. So I'd have to buy them... and I'm a little low on cash right now.

There, there. Don't worry about it, Loolaa! I'm sure the great turtle gods will bless you with some money.
Ohh, you mentioned Ninja Scroll, HT! Another one of my favorites...great animation, and one of the most violent titles I've ever seen. It's in a class of its own
Damn. I love anime, but I hardly ever get a chance to watch it. It's expensive, you know.
I watch it whenever it comes on TV. The International Channel's showing Slayers and some public station has Dirty Pair. Plus whatever's on Adult Swim if I'm ever up that late. Never seen Ninja Scroll or Ghost in a Shell (did see Akira and some others,) but I friend has them, so I may end up borrowing them.
I'm also kinda curious to see it now that a local store started selling hentai along with the other Anime's.

06-27-2002, 05:21 PM
 Gotta love that one scene in Ninja Scroll where the bad guy falls on ... *innocent look*
Yeah.. we were lucky with one Block Bluster having a good selection of anime flicks. We only own Akira (basic edition), Ninja Scroll, Street Fighter, and Blood... and I still long for the day that Ghost in the Shell goes below $20. So expensive!
azure turtle
06-27-2002, 10:21 PM
I have Akira and Blood, but I don't have those other titles. I'd like to buy Ninjascroll and Ghost In the Shell too, but I've spent most of my recent money on TMNT stuff. *sigh* Having more than one hobby is tough. :goof:
Skeletoncrew
06-27-2002, 11:25 PM
I've been spending an awful lot of money lately on TMNT stuff too. I bought a new bookcase today for my action figures! Its right here by my computer desk. Oddly enough, Donatello leapt off of the shelf a short while ago...I wonder if its a sign? Hee hee hee...he's one of the retractable head ones too...and he landed on his head! Fortunately I was able to pull it back out.
Loolaa
06-28-2002, 02:11 AM
My action figures are on my computer table (ie, a regular table that's lousy for my posture when I'm typing... ) and whenever I move they fall over.
I've only opened 3 so far my other 5 are still in there boxes tempting me to open them.
Tinselcat
06-28-2002, 07:28 AM
oooooh, i LOVE anime! right now i'm in a Slayers Next phase. i like the action/comedies, though i also really enjoyed bubblegum crisis and 3x3 eyes.
azure turtle
06-28-2002, 09:15 AM
Hey, another anime fan! I've heard a lot of good things about the Slayers series, but I haven't been able to watch any of it yet.
Some of my action figs are still MOC, but I'm tempted to open them...I've got a MOC 1988 Donatello that I really want to open...
Skeletoncrew
06-28-2002, 12:08 PM
I only have 4 TMNT figures on cards...a couple of Aprils, a movie star Splinter, and a Venus. I also have all of the McFarlane Army of Darkness figures on cards, and an Italian Lisa Simpson!
Mostly I like buying loose turtles figures. They're cheap, and I feel free to tinker with them. (My Splinter repaint is close to finished...I'll post pics.) Unfortunately they usually come with out accessories.
Loolaa
06-28-2002, 01:05 PM
I saw a Skuld (Oh! My Goddess) action figure today, and I so wanted it, but didn't have a spare £16.00.
Tinselcat
06-28-2002, 02:17 PM
oooh, that would've been cool. i read the oh! my goddess manga. the art in that and anything by CLAMP is amazing! some of the pictures are almost art nouveau-esque.

I like buying action figs MOC because I know I'll be getting all the accessories plus the card. I like having my action figures complete.

Hey all! I finished my Splinter re-paint today! Here's a picture of him with the regular Splinter. http://dragonladyl.tripod.com/repaint.JPG
And here's a picture of him with my repainted Venus:
http://dragonladyl.tripod.com/repaints.JPG
I hope to make a decent kimono for my Splinter...and I'll be making a few appropriate accessories for Venus. Lets just say you'll be able to call her Mistress Venus by the time I'm done with her.

HT's right Venus does look a little like one of Kali's characters.

06-29-2002, 01:18 PM
I'm going to paint the other Splinter too...Question is, am I going to do another agouti rat (because I'm sure I can do it even better the second time)...or maybe something different? There are many possibilities http://dragonladyl.tripod.com/thegirls.jpg
(*Sigh* Tripod sucks)
Tinselcat
06-29-2002, 01:19 PM
i think you should make him different. and that's my opinion.
Skeletoncrew
06-29-2002, 01:28 PM
I'll have to look through my rat book for ideas... Gotta figure out how to make that kimono too. I want to use the cloth I photographed them on. Oh, I also want to find him a nice walking stick.
Loolaa
06-29-2002, 02:12 PM
Love your rat photo!!! And the one that's running away on the right looks alot like my rat, Emily, I had when I was about 7. :D
Skeletoncrew
06-29-2002, 02:14 PM
That's Ziggy. She was cool little rat!
Loolaa
06-29-2002, 02:18 PM
Better than 'Emily'!
So what're all their names, then?
Skeletoncrew
06-29-2002, 02:26 PM
Left to right: Mrs. Robinson, Bubl, Minerva, Electra, Squek, and Ziggy. All are now in the great rat's nest in the sky now. They were great rats.
Loolaa
06-29-2002, 02:29 PM
Awww man, i'm sorry to hear that.
I wish rodents lived longer than they do...
 I can see them! Splinter looks really spiffy. And Venus now looks like one of Kali's characters. ;)
Hmm, kinda does. Oddly, I do have Venus dressing in black in a fic I'm working on.
Those look so great, SC!
Tinselcat
07-01-2002, 11:24 AM
those rats are so cuuuute! i'd love to have a pet rat, but i hear they get unhappy if you don't get more than one, which i doubt i could handle.
HorseTechie
07-01-2002, 12:05 PM
yeah.. that kind of happenes, if you take them fromm a others when they are older.. I think.
I had two sister rats, and when Gertie died first from breast tumors.. poor Humpy (aka Matilda) would just sit there and look very depressed. :(
Tinselcat
07-02-2002, 07:46 AM
aww... well, maybe i'll get a couple rats eventually, but life being the hectic way it is now, it might be awhile. i got to find a third job this summer... *sigh*
Skeletoncrew
07-02-2002, 01:26 PM
I'd like to have pet rats again, but I got so allergic to them! Plus, I don't have a very good attention span. I wouldn't give them the attention they deserve.
HorseTechie
07-02-2002, 04:36 PM
yeah... so busy now too! The turtle is the only pet I can handle now, since she's so low maintenace. Plus I don't like seeing the rats grow old with those nasty tumors and respriatory problems. :(
azure turtle
07-06-2002, 11:45 PM
Woah, nice customs, SC! I really like the Splinter one. ;) What kind of paint did you use? I want to repaint my Casey Jones and Raphael action figs because they've got a lot of paint wear...I just don't know what kind of paint to use.
Skeletoncrew
07-07-2002, 01:37 AM
I used Testor's glossy acrylic on Venus, and some water-based craft paint on Splinter. His tail and paws are Warhammer paint. I sprayed him with Krylon glossy clear. I'm working on my other Splinter right now, he's a blue berkshire blaze...radically different from the agouti coat!
azure turtle
07-07-2002, 01:54 AM
Wow! That's a lot of different paint...Perhaps I'll hold out on re-painting my figs. Maybe I can buy a few "replacements" on ebay. :D Waitasec...did you just say you were gonna do a blue version of Splinter?!
Skeletoncrew
07-07-2002, 02:02 AM
"Blue" when referring to animals colors (other than yours) means grey.
