I've never owned the original movie comic, so this was a quick pre-order for me. It still seems a little expensive for what's essentially just a 62-page adaptation (even with the bonus content), but it's a nice coffee-table-book kind of way to own it.

it's great for collectors that's for sure

My cousin bought it for me when it was still dirt cheap. SurprisinglyI took care of the darn thing so well, with the sad state of everything else from my youth.

I think I've got two versions of the original release at home, one in b/w and one in colour? Is that correct? I'd have to recheck.

Does this mean they are going to continue the monthly color classics reprints then?

I have one of the versions. Not the version with all the extra pages in it, apparently.

I dunno if it's really worth doubledipping, personally, but at the very least this sounds like a collection that'll gather together all the content scattered about the Mirage, Tundra and Archie releases, plus other stuff. So that ought to be worthwhile for those who have never owned the book.

I think Mirage re-released the Black & White edition of this comic as a pack-in for the Blu Ray edition of the original films.

Oh, Spengs, you know you need to read the full edition for the sake of completion in your inevitable review on TMNT Entity! :tgrin:

This is the version I own (http://www.thetechnodrome.com/comics/archie_specials/tmnt_movie_prestige_edition.jpg).

That's the Archie Prestige Edition, right? (as opposed to the regular Archie edition which had flatter coloring).

The Mirage edition was black and white but had extra pages, right?

And is the Tundra version the same as the Mirage version? Is there a Tundra version?

I'm admittedly a little confused by the various editions of the first movie comic put out over the years.

Gah. I'm gonna see if I can get these versions straight, since I'm gonna be reviewing the movie comics in order before the new film comes out and I want all my facts together.

TMNT the Movie

*Mirage version (black and white, bonus pages)
*Archie newsstand edition (flat colors by Barry Grossman)
*Archie Prestige Edition (painted colors by Steve Lavigne)

TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze

*Archie newsstand edition (flat colors by Barry Grossman)
*Archie, Tundra, Mirage Prestige Edition (painted colors by Richmond Lewis)

TMNT III

*Archie newsstand edition (flat colors by Barry Grossman)
*Archie Prestige Edition (painted colors by Steve Lavigne)

Am I getting this right? The Prestige Edition of Secret of the Ooze was the same between Mirage, Tundra and Archie and was the only one of the movie books to be published by Tundra?

That sounds right to me, although I think I own all editions and even I'm not sure where the extra pages come in...

It was a little easier to keep track of things when everything was listed on the Mirage website.

Mirage Edition (Black & White):
http://www.miragelicensing.com/comics/mirage/movie/movie.html

I don't remember if there was a Tundra edition, although it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Both Secret of the Ooze & TMNT III also got special editions, although I don't think there were quite as many variants as the first movie adaptation.

After a little screwing around with the URLs, I found the old Mirage pages for the Movie comics, unindexed and otherwise inaccessible:

TMNT the Movie (http://miragelicensing.com/comics/archie/movie1/movie1.html)

Secret of the Ooze (http://miragelicensing.com/comics/archie/movie2/movie2.html)

TMNT III (http://miragelicensing.com/comics/archie/movie3/movie3.html)

Then there's Mirage's listing for their edition of Secret of the Ooze (http://miragelicensing.com/comics/mirage/movie2/movie2.html) which mentions the joint publication with Tundra.

The cover for the Mirage/Tundra edition of Secret of the Ooze looks identical to the Archie Prestige Edition of Secret of the Ooze, which is why I'm curious if the Mirage/Tundra/Archie Prestige Editions are all the same book or not.

For the record, going by covers, I own the Archie Prestige Edition of TMNT the Movie, the Archie newsstand edition of Secret of the Ooze, and the Archie Prestige Edition of TMNT III.

So I can't comment on any other versions of the comics and have to go by what I can glean from these ancient websites.

Let's see if I can help set things straight, ha ha. I had to pull out my issues because I've still always been a little confused by it all myself.

Movie 1
Mirage - hardbound, extra pages, B&W
Archie prestige - hardbound, no extra pages, painted colors

Movie 2
Tundra - hardbound, extra pages, painted colors
Archie - paperback (not stapled), no extra pages, flat colors

Movie 3
Archie prestige - hardbound, no extra pages, painted colors
Archie - stapled, extra pages, flat colors
(That's not a mistake: the newsstand edition has content the prestige edition doesn't.)

As far as I know, there technically is no Mirage copy of movie 2. My copy only has Tundra as the publisher. I don't think there's an Archie prestige format of movie 2 either; pretty sure the only copy I don't own is the standard Archie issue for movie 1.

The extra pages in all three are pretty awesome. Pretty much just splash pages and spreads that show full-blown action sequences, which makes the issues feel more exciting.

Thanks, man! So...

Movie 1 has Mirage Edition, Archie Prestige, Archie Newsstand, IDW Special Edition

Movie 2 has Tundra Prestige, Archie Newsstand

Movie 3 has Archie Prestige, Archie Newsstand

And either the content or the coloring varies across each version. I didn't know the Prestige versions of Movie 2 and Movie 3 also contained bonus pages, so that's definitely news to me.

Goofed on my previous post, now edited: it's the newsstand edition of movie 3 that has the extra pages. It's weird that it's not the prestige edition which has 'em.

And I suppose there may be an Archie prestige of movie 2 (likely the exact same book as Tundra's), but someone else will have to verify whether they own a copy.

Then of course, as mentioned earlier, there's the miniature version of Mirage's B&W extra page count version of movie 1 packed into the original movie Blu-ray pizza box.

Let's not forget the reprint of the Movie 1 adaption that came with the 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition.

EDIT: Nvm, Abnormal Freak already pointed it out.

This is bizarre. This thread from a few years ago says that the prestige Archie version DID have extra pages (the ones depicting scenes written and possibly filmed for the movie, but left out of the finished film) and has pictures of them:

Abnormal Freak, I think you'd better double-check on which versions of the first movie comic adaptation have extra pages? Or did the Mirage version of the first movie adaptation have even more material than the Archie prestige version?

If you mean that Casey Jones introduction pictured, that's in all three versions, or at the very least in Mirage's and Archie's prestige version. (I know my brother had a newsstand Archie issue. He gave me all his comics so it's probably somewhere.) There's a number of panels in the comic adaptation that has deleted scenes from the movie, like April's pitch to do a TMNT comic at the end.

What Mirage's B&W comic has over the Archie prints are splashes and spreads without any word bubbles that enhance the action and are super cool to look at.

Cool! I think I might have to get this. Back in the day, this was actually the first Ninja Turtles comic I ever read. It was the flat color Archie and belonged to a friend. I never got my own copy, but it was what lead me to look for the Mirage comics and collect the First color trades, which eventually lead to getting single issues when I could.

It's an issue of TMNT Magazine and not a comic adaptation (and so far as I know, is the only issue of TMNT Magazine not to have a short comic in it, either).

Spengs is correct. I think the 3rd movie adaptation was also the last of the TMNT Magazines put out by Welsh Publishing Group. As I recall, it came with two cover variants, with one being that 3D-ish lenticular cover, which is also the one I own.

Yeah I was hoping too that would we get the movie; but this is still awesome though. It looks like we are getting a hardcover edition of the 1990 movie comic. Pre-ordering the Visual History on Amazon while this was in my recommended searches. http://www.amazon.com/Teenage-Turtles-Original-Picture-Special/dp/1631400231/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y
