That really saddens me. His art (and the movies inspired by them) has been a big part of my life since I first saw ALIEN in the theatres in 1979 (I was 9 at the time!).

RIP Mr. Giger!! :tcry:

Wow that really is hard to hear. He was a unique guy to say the least but he was also very driven, creative, and smart. As mentioned he was the brains behind the eventual look of the Alien from the sci-fi movie Alien, which is one of the coolest looking creatures in all of movies. I liked his vision of art and the way he wanted the Alien (as well as the other cycles of the Alien's lifespan) to look on screen. This is very sad news. :tsad:

Man, this is tragic news. RIP Mr Giger. Kinda ironic seeing as how he died on the movie's 35th anniversary.

^^This was pretty shocking. But he will not soon be forgotten. He was great artist that has and will continue to inspire many with his works. This one's a bummer but R.I.P Giger.

There is a truly wonderful tribute up at the Alien films fan blog, Strange Shapes:

I shared my thoughts in the 4th reply of the comments. This was a tough one.

RIP you mad, haunted genius.

sad news. Saw it on Tumblr.

Always been a fan of his art ever since I first laid my eyes on it.

Yes, it's always sad to see the passing of a great talent like that. His art has always reminded me of some of my creepiest dreams, and I loved the creatures he created for Alien(s). He will certainly be missed.
